(Clearwisdom.net) In 2001, Mr. Yang Zhonghai, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Suiling City, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced to one year in a forced labor re-education camp. A few days later after he was released, the Shuguang Police Authorities once again abducted him right before the New Year's Day of 2002. Mr. Yang Zhonghai went on a hunger strike for 6 days to protest the wrongful arrest. At that time, he was very weak, as his health had been severely damaged due to prolonged periods of torture and persecution. He passed away on May 19 (Lunar calendar, April 8), 2002.

Mr. Yang Zhonghai, who was about 30 years old, obtained Dafa in 1998. In November 2000, he started distributing Dafa truth-clarifying materials that he himself had personally printed. In December 2000, he went to Tiananmen Square and unfurled a Dafa banner and was arrested by Beijing policemen. In a detention center in Beijing, the policemen, through torture, forced him to tell his name and address. When he practiced Falun Gong exercises with fellow practitioners in the cell of the detention center, the criminal inmates beat him. Later, he went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, but he received forced feeding through intubation. He was tied to a bed and was force-fed urine, milk powder, and water with a high concentration of salt and chili mixed in. Some criminal inmates even mocked him and forbade him from using the rest room.

Later, Yang Zhonghai was illegally sentenced to one year in a forced labor re-education camp. During his hunger strike in the forced labor camp, the police force-fed him using violent means and gave him an intravenous drip. The local police station took him back 2 or 3 days before his term was due in the labor camp. After he returned home, he continued to clarify the truth to people.

Around 8 PM, two days before the New Year's Day of 2002, 5 policemen headed by Chen Daguang from the Shuguang Police Station broke into Yang Zhonghai's home. They searched and found some tapes and truth-clarifying materials in his rice bags and arrested him once again. Mr. Yang went on a hunger strike immediately that evening. Mr. Yang maintained a hunger strike for 6 of his 7 days of detention. He was extremely weak when he was released. The long period of torture and persecution severely damaged his health. He passed away around noon on May 19, 2002.
