  • Ms. Yu Yimin from Wuhan City Lost Her Family and Was Reduced to Begging on the Streets Due to the Persecution

Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Yu Yimin from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, used to have a happy family. After Jiang Zemin's regime started using the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to persecute Falun Gong, Ms. Yu was illegally arrested several times and has suffered from much inhuman treatment. In the end, her family was torn apart and she suffered a mental collapse.

Ms. Yu Yimin, 42 years old, a compassionate woman, was once an accountant for the Hubei Province Second Electric Power Construction Engineering Company.

In the early 1990s, Ms. Yu was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After surgery, she was very weak. She had to rely on medication to sustain her life. She was unable to work. Her illness brought a great financial burden to her family. Amidst the torment that resulted from her illness, she lived a bitter life.

In 1996, Ms. Yu started to learn Falun Gong. She has strictly used the principles of "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance" to guide herself. Her physical and mental health greatly improved. After seeing Yu Yimin's dramatic changes, her husband also started to practice Falun Gong. Before long, his lung ailment cleared up without any medical treatment. Her parents-in-law started to practice Falun Gong too, after they witnessed how she and their son had changed and how they treated their parents better. After that, the whole family lived in harmony. They saved their employers a lot of medical expenses. Ms. Yu knows that it was Falun Gong that gave her a second life and gave good health to her loved ones.

On July 20, 1999, the CCP started the brutal campaign of persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Yu went to the government's Appeal Bureau in Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was illegally arrested. She was detained at the Qianmen Police Department. Later, the police from the Wansongyuan Police Station in the Jianghan District of Wuhan City took her back to Wuhan City. She was then sent to the Wuhan City Women's Custodial Center, where she was detained for two weeks.

Detained in the brainwashing center several times

On February 26, 2000, the 610 Office of the Jianghan District Police Department ordered all of the police stations to arrest Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale. Zhou Zhiwei, Director of the Wansongyuan Police Station, and many policemen, including Luo Yong and Tang Shuangxin, went to Ms. Yu's home, removed her by force, and then detained her in the Jianghan District Brainwashing Center, which is located inside the Welfare Center by the Wuhan City Police Department.

In May 2000, the Jianghan District "610 Office" spent a large amount of money, manpower, and resources and rented a three-story building from a privately owned pre-fabricated cement plant in Erdaopeng of Jianghan District. They installed hallways, elevators, and windows, anti-theft fences, doors and windows made of thick steel bars in the building. All the Falun Gong practitioners who were detained inside the Welfare Center were then transferred to the Erdaopeng Brainwashing Center.

Because of the prolonged detention and brainwashing, Ms. Yu was unable to discern the lies, so she wrote a guarantee statement. After she returned home, she calmly pondered the issue, and she then woke up. She wrote a statement declaring that her previously written statement renouncing Falun Gong was null and void. She also placed the declaration letter in the hands of a brainwashing center leader.

Shortly afterwards, on February 9, 2002, Zhou Zhiwei, Director of the Wansongyuan Police Station, leading a group of policemen, broke into Ms. Yu's home, handcuffed her, and then took her to the police station. Ms. Yu was returned to Erdaopeng Brainwashing Center for persecution.

In the brainwashing center, Ms. Yu refused to watch the fabricated news. She cooperated with other Falun Gong practitioners in tearing down the banners that contained words slanderous to Falun Gong. At the beginning of 2001, the brainwashing center forced the practitioners to watch videos about the staged "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" incident. Ms. Yu and other practitioners pointed out that the "self-immolation" incident was staged to frame Falun Gong. After that, she was put in custody for criminal detention for one month. After her custody, she was again brought to the brainwashing center.

In the brainwashing center, the practitioners used their wisdom to erase the slanderous slogans on the wall and replaced them with the words, "Jiang Zemin has organized an evil cult." The head of the 610 Office called in the police to search the cells and the practitioners to find who had written the words. They ordered each practitioner to write some words so they could compare their handwriting with the words on the wall. Ms. Yu and other the practitioners, more than ten of them, determinedly resisted the demand. In the end, the police were unable to identify the person who had written those words.

At the end of October 2001, Ms. Yu was transferred to the Wansongyuan Police Station for further persecution. She managed to escape. She had to become homeless to avoid further persecution. The director of the Wansongyuan Police Station led the police in a massive search to find her. They also offered a big reward to anyone who would turn her in.

    Sentenced to forced labor

Yu Yimin was arrested again when she was handing out truth-clarification material. She was sentenced to one year of forced labor in the Hewan Drug Rehabilitation Center in Wuhan City. When she was initially sent there, the guards would not let her sleep. They had several people try, around the clock, to brainwash her by instilling their crooked sayings into her mind. Ms. Yu ignored them. Then the guards incited the inmates to beat her, pinch her, and keep her awake for a long time. They punished her by forcing her to stand facing the wall or in a military-style squatting position. If she moved even a little, they would beat her severely. No matter how they tortured her, Yu Yimin always stuck to her belief in Falun Gong. In the end, the guards had to give up trying to brainwash her. After that, they tortured her by forcing her to do manual labor for long hours.

On the day in November 2002, when Ms. Yu's sentence was over, the police transferred her from Hewan to Erdaopeng Brainwashing Center without following any legal procedure and without determining the length of her new sentence. The individuals who were involved in this plot were from the Jianghan District Political and Judicial Committee, the Jianghan District 610 Office, the Jianghan District Police Department, the Wansongyuan Police Station, and the Wansongyuan Neighborhood Office.

Ms. Yu's family was torn apart and she suffered a mental collapse

During the time Ms. Yu was detained in the detention center, the women's custodial center, the brainwashing center, Hewan Forced Labor Camp, and Hewan Rehabilitation Center, she suffered inhuman treatment. The persecution had separated her from her family for almost three years. Ms. Yu's husband was unable to endure the brutal persecution and gave up practicing Falun Gong. He even started living with his wife's sister illegally. Together they instigated Ms. Yu's child to believe that her sister was his mother. Ms. Yu was unaware of this while she was being detained.

At the time of the Chinese Lunar New Year, Ms. Yu dragged herself, her body weak and swollen from the mental and physical torment, and arrived at her long-missed home. She gently knocked on the door, but there was no response and the door was locked. In the cold wind and in the dark night, she leaned against the door, wearing only thin layers of clothing. She cried. She left quietly before dawn.

Several days later, her husband Wang Siqing went to her with a divorce paper and asked her to sign it. Then Wang and Ms. Yu Yimin's sister, Yu Xiaomin, drove her out of her home. They only gave her enough money to cover her living expenses for one month.

Ms. Yu has cultivated herself to be a good person by following Truth-Compassion-Forbearance, yet the persecution has torn her family apart. However, Cao Xinyun, the party secretary of the community, made a slanderous comment that Ms. Yu had brought this on herself because she practices Falun Gong, without ever mentioning anything about the persecution she has suffered. He often went to harass and humiliate her.

Because of the intense pressure that tore her family apart, Yu Yimin was fired from her job. She is alone and has no income or other means of support. Ms. Yu suffered a heavy psychological blow. She lost her ability to make a living. Since then, she has lived by begging on the streets. People were unaware of her situation until a Falun Gong practitioner recognized her on the street despite her dirt-covered face. However, later practitioners lost contact with her.

Hunan 610 Office Responsible for Poisoning a Family and Arresting the Daughter to Prevent UN Special Rapporteur on Torture from Investigating Their Case

Falun Gong practitioner Tan Xiaolan is from Shimen County, Changde City, Hunan Province. She was arrested for the third time on October 14, 2005, and illegally detained in a brainwashing class used by the Chinese authorities to "reform" practitioners. We are aware that behind this particular arrest there is an even darker plot.

On October 14, Ms. Tan Xiaolan received a notice from the county's General Management Office, saying, "The higher authorities request a meeting with you." Tan Xiaolan wasn't fooled by their plot and did not go. A moment later, several agents from the same office came to her home to arrest her. Tan Xiaolan's husband tried to block their car, but because they had more people, he was tightly restrained while Ms. Tan was forced into the car and taken away.

That was Tan Xiaolan's third arrest. The first two times, she was imprisoned for over two years. This time, the vicious perpetrators blocked all information about her. At first, her family could not find out where Ms. Tan was detained. Later, after asking many people for help, they finally found out that she was detained in a hostel associated with the Changde City Qingfeng Coal Mine.

This hostel has now been upgraded to a "hotel." In order to set up a "brainwashing base," the municipal government spent over 100,000 yuan. All of the windows and doors were installed with security systems. Dozens of Falun Gong practitioners from different counties are imprisoned there. The perpetrators are afraid that their illegal and vicious conduct will be exposed, so they set up strict restrictions for family visits, including the stipulation that, "Falun Gong practitioners, or those who have practiced Falun Gong before, (they have a list of names) are not allowed to visit."

Tan Xiaolan's husband discovered after talking with those in charge, that the so-called "teaching assistants" in the brainwashing class were simply untrained people selected from the public. The administration of the brainwashing class costs 8,000 yuan per day. The illegally detained practitioners had to pay thousands of yuan for living expenses. A practitioner from Linli was released only after her family members withdrew money from the bank and paid out over 3,000 yuan.

As of today, Tan Xiaolan has been deprived of freedom for over two months. She is imprisoned because the 610 Office is afraid that their attempt to poison Ms. Tan's parents' food will be exposed to the public. Her parents are also Falun Gong practitioners.

On December 24, 2000, Tan Xiaolan's parents were detained in the Changde City Brainwashing Center, located in a drug rehab center. The more than 60 practitioners detained there acted together and refused to cooperate with the evildoers, and the brainwashing was a complete failure. Ms. Tan's parents were escorted back to Shimen County and imprisoned there. They went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal long-term imprisonment. Agents from the 610 Office sent Tan Xiaolan's mother to the county hospital's psychiatry ward, where staff injected her with unknown drugs. As a result she became blind and her legs were disabled.

Xiaolan's father was pressed down onto the flatbed of a tricycle by four men and was force-fed food mixed with some kind of drugs. In addition, he was locked in a dark and damp cell for an extended period of time. Eventually, he was also rendered blind. Because many members of their family strongly and repeatedly demanded the 610 Office to release her parents, and also because the village authorities were unable to afford the wages of the guards, they dismissed all the guards on March 22, 2002. Under these circumstances, the 610 Office had to release her parents on March 24, 2002, but continued to persecute them.

The authorities attempted several times to poison Tan Xiaolan and her parents. However, with Teacher's help, they vomited out all the poison. The symptoms were of food poisoning, but they did not have any evidence of foul play at the time.

The persecution Ms. Tan's parents had suffered was reported on Clearwisdom.net. The 610 Office also knew that the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture would be arriving in China to investigate the family's case. To cover up their crimes, the 610 Office instigated someone to spray deadly poison onto the garlic that her parents had planted. On September 17, 2005, one day before the Mid-Autumn Festival, while cooking scrambled eggs with garlic, both Tan Xiaolan and her mother noticed that the smell was strange; hence they did not eat it. But her father did not want to waste food, and ate it all. As soon as he finished, his face immediately turned blue, and he started to vomit and had diarrhea. While her father was suffering, the person who poisoned the garlic stood outside and listened to what would happen. There was a woman with him and they were talking. They did not expect to see Tan Xiaolan coming out right then. She heard the woman say, "The old man should not die. The old woman should!" On seeing Ms. Tan, they ran away immediately. Tan Xiaolan heard what they said, which proved that someone was trying to poison them. After a careful examination, they confirmed that the poison had been sprayed on the garlic.

After Tan Xiaolan was arrested, her mother Hou Jinyuan went to the county 610 Office to demand her release. The following conversation ensued:

Ms. Hou: Director Sheng, why did you arrest her this time? Is it wrong to practice Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance? Is it wrong to want to be a good person?

    Sheng: No.

Ms. Hou: Was it wrong to practice Falun Gong to become cured of cancer?

    Sheng: No.

Ms. Hou: We have been tortured by you for a long time and are unable to live independently. Is it wrong for my daughter to come and take care of us?

    Sheng: No.

Ms. Hou: Now I know. It must be because the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture plans to look into our case. you tried to poison us to silence us, but you failed, and you are afraid that Xiaolan will report what you have done, and therefore you arrested her. Isn't it so?

    Sheng: (embarrassed)...

This conversation offers some clue about why Tan Xiaolan was arrested. Because her parents are blind, they are unable to move freely. They cannot get the phone numbers of those who are responsible.

Falun Gong Practitioner Yang Hong from Huludao Released From Detention After Immense Suffering

On November 18, 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Hong from Huludao City was illegally arrested by local police from the National Security Group. She was detained for three weeks, during which time she suffered various tortures. However, Yang Hong persisted in not cooperating with the perpetrators, and finally was released from detention on December 9, 2005.

Within a short period of three weeks, Falun Gong practitioner Yang Hong was tortured by police to the point of developing pneumonia in both lungs, as well as a cyst, tachycardia and other symptoms. Her throat was badly injured during brutal forced-feeding sessions, her teeth became loose and blackened due to her mouth being pried open by the detention center guards, and her body was covered with black and red bruises.

The following describes how the police of Huludao City persecuted Yang Hong.

On the morning of November 18, 2005, policemen Zhang Junsheng, Liu Shijun and Zhao Lianshuang from the National Security Group, together with policeman Zhao Weiguo from the Shiyou Police Station and two other staff members from Dongmenshe District, confronted Yang Hong's daughter Yingying near the building where she lives. They forced her to give them the key to open Yang Hong's door and rushed into her home, confiscating her computer, Teacher's photo, the book Zhuan Falun, a tape recorder and tapes, among other things.

Yang Hong tried to clarify the truth to them, telling them not to take part in persecuting Falun Gong. Policeman Zhao Lianshuang, camera in hand, threw the book Zhuan Falun on the ground and yelled, "If there is karmic retribution, let me get it!"

Since Yang Hong refused to cooperate with the illegal arrest, the policemen dragged her barefoot down the stairs, with policeman Zhao Lianshuang beating her on the head with his fists as they went. Yang Hong refused to get in the car, and kept shouting loudly, "Falun Dafa is good." The policemen handcuffed her hands behind her back and wrestled her into the car. When Zhao Lianshuang slammed the car door, Yang Hong's left toe was caught, causing the whole toe to quickly turn black.

That night, Yang Hong was held in the detention center of Huludao City. She began a hunger strike to protest. In response, the detention center staff force-fed and tortured her. They tied her hands and feet to a tiger bench, tightened a broad cloth belt around her breasts and fixed her head in place. They had a criminal hold a plastic water bottle filled with corn meal paste, while several other criminals gripped her by both cheeks, forced a hand-made wooden wedge into her mouth, then used a piece of foot-scouring stone to prop her teeth open. The criminals then squeezed the plastic bottle, forcing corn meal paste down her throat. One of them used a wooden rectangular rod to force the corn meal paste down her throat. The process was both dangerous and cruel, as she could have easily choked.

Over the ensuing days, this force-feeding method was used again and again to persecute Yang Hong, causing serious injury to her mouth and throat. Both corners of her mouth were torn, and her mouth became full of ulcers. Her teeth became loose and blackened from being pried open. Ms. Yang developed a fever and began to cough.

Once in the process of force-feeding, detention center guard Wu Zhen snatched the plastic bottle full of corn meal paste from a criminal, and squeezed the bottle hard, forcing a sudden surge of paste down Yang Hong's throat. Immediately she vomited, and her lungs and heart seared with pain. The next day, Yang Hong was sent to the emergency ward of a hospital. Test results showed pneumonia in both lobes of her lungs, cyst, tachycardia (abnormally rapid heartbeat) and other symptoms.

When taken back to the detention center, Yang Hong was still forced to receive injections, but the jail doctor could not find her veins. The doctor's needle pierced her in many places except her veins, leaving numerous holes surrounded by black and dark red bruises. In the end, it was very difficult to even take a blood sample.

Yang Hong never cooperated with the unreasonable demands of her persecutors. She always pulled out the needle and shouted, "Falun Dafa is good." Once, while being sent back to the city hospital, a guard gathered a thin sliver of flesh on Yang Hong's arm and pressed it with all his might, painfully pinching her.

After returning from the city hospital, Yang Hong was force-fed twice each day, with a lot of paste being forced in each time. It wasn't long before her body rejected anything pushed into her mouth, causing her to vomit out everything she was fed. Seeing her condition, the guards had to send Yang Hong home on December 9, 2005.

Exposure of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp's "Reform" Methods

I started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. After beginning the practice, the renal disease I had suffered from for many years vanished, as did 20 years of arthritis, brain illness and inflammation of the blood vessels. My whole body became illness-free and I felt light and cheerful, which I had never before experienced. I devoted my mind and body to practicing the Falun Gong exercises and cultivating myself, and I started a practice site in my home.

When the Communist Regime started employing propaganda via the mass media to slander Master and Falun Gong, bad things happened. The police started targeting and arresting local practitioners. I went into hiding at my relatives. I was aware at the time that many practitioners had gone to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. No matter how crazy the persecution was, practitioners were not afraid, which touched me deeply. A practitioner and I went together to Beijing, but half-way there, some of her relatives forced her to go back home. I decided to go by myself and use my healthy body to affirm Falun Gong's greatness. Because I did not have a solid understanding of Falun Gong, when the police stopped me on the road and asked if I was Falun Gong practitioner, I told them, "I am!" I was immediately handcuffed and detained at a local police station or detention center. I went on a hunger strike to protest. Without any proper paperwork or notification to my family, they soon transferred me to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Many Falun Gong practitioners were detained there.

We persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises and reciting the Fa. Guards at the camp forbade us from doing so; two criminals monitored us and beat us when we practiced or recited Falun Gong. The guards also beat us using electric batons. When their electric batons did not work, they would replace them with high-voltage ones. We were forced to sit barefoot on the ground while two criminals stepped on our legs. The guards shocked us in the middle of the feet, face and neck. The smell of burned skin filled the air. After the beatings, my neck and half of my face looked like rhubarb from the shocks and dripped yellow fluid for days. Sometimes they shocked us and then asked if we would still practice. In the meantime a male guard was ordered to stop us from practicing and reciting the Fa by kicking us with his heavy boots and beating us hard whenever we did. We had bruises on the mouth, nose and other parts of our faces from the beatings. Our heads and ribs hurt for several months from those kicks.

Many other torture methods were used at the camp, such as brainwashing. We were forced to watch fabricated TV or radio programs all day long while being deprived of sleep at night. We were forced to stand, squat or stay in other positions for long periods of time, squat while our wrists were handcuffed behind the back or sit in the snow. We were forced to sweep snow without gloves on. Our hands were frozen and full of blisters afterwards. When we returned inside we had to make clothes for export. Yellow pus dripped from our hands. No tools were provided to us; therefore, we had to use our hands to break metal wire. This cut our fingers deeply and caused them to become infected.

We were given excessive workloads. We got up at 5:00 a.m. and went to bed after midnight. Some practitioners were occasionally called away, and came back with bruises on their noses, eyes and the other parts of the face, or came back with soaked clothes because the guards had poured cold water on them. It was winter. Some practitioners were punished by having to stay in a single small cell, and forbidden to speak about their experiences after they returned. Some were transferred to Dabei Prison, and some were frequently forced to write the "Four Statements" (similar to the Three Statements) and to take a test afterwards. Practitioners were forced to buy a specific book and answer questions based on the book. Guards distributed books to us to spread their ideology, for which we had to pay for. Some practitioners were persecuted and abused so severely that they developed mental problems. They were later transferred to mental hospitals. Others became severely ill and lived with assistants, as they could not care for themselves; some practitioners were tortured until they were in life threatening or critical condition.

In summary, the methods of torture, torment and gross abuse perpetrated at Masanjia were countless. Police guards also awarded criminals who closely monitored us by reducing their prison time.

Facing these inhuman circumstances, we decided to go on a hunger strike to protest. Force-feeding was then employed as another torture method. The force-feeding was done in two ways: one was force-feeding through the nose. Rigid, non-sanitized tubes were forced into a practitioner's stomach through the nose, often rupturing or damaging internal tissue and causing internal bleeding. The tubes were sometimes left in a practitioner for days or weeks at a time, causing severe infections, or else they were pulled out and reinserted repeatedly. One practitioner was handcuffed onto a bed with arms spread to either side. The practitioner was forced to stay in this position for a long period of time, and suffered incredible pain from it. Another force-feeding method was to forcefully open a practitioner's mouth with a metal device, and pull on the tongue and pour corn soup into the mouth while six or seven guards or criminal inmates held the practitioner down. This method was also extremely painful. At those times, one felt more dead than alive. I personally experienced both force-feeding tortures, and was rendered unconsciousness for a long time.

Sometimes the police forced us to curse our Master and Falun Gong. If we disobeyed, they would beat and kick us in conjunction with other torture methods. We could hear the sound of electric baton shocks, which had become routine for the guards, and practitioners' screams. Guards were promoted when they performed more tortures. Some practitioners including myself were "reformed" under this force. We did what we should not do because of a lack of studying the "Fa," insufficient righteous thoughts, a muddled mind and deception from the guards.

To test whether a practitioners was truly "reformed," the guards forced us to take medication or kill mosquitoes and flies, knowing that practitioners do not kill lives. They used all kinds of approaches to make us do things against Master and Falun Gong, and to make us give up Falun Gong.

As a result of being "transformed," I was released from Masanjia Labor Camp, but Masanjia did not let go of me. The officials demanded I write a monthly report of my thoughts and mail it to them, which totally controlled my mind and body. The local Political and Judiciary Committee and police, the local Residential Committee Officials, and officials from my work place, constantly came to my house and harassed my family. Our telephone was tapped. Whenever it was a so-called "sensitive date," either the police or my non-practitioner relative would stop by my house to "look after" me. The dark minions and the evil in other dimensions put increased pressure on me by gradually destroying my health. I had pain starting from my fingers, and then moving into the arms, resulting in it being too painful to move. Other kinds of illnesses kept attacking me, causing enormous pain and preventing me from sleeping. The massive medications I took did not comfort me. I did not want to live anymore.

When I despaired, compassionate Master was taking care of me! I had a chance to meet Falun Gong practitioners, and with their help, I read Master's new articles. I realized that I let the old forces fool me. They took advantage of me because I did not have righteous thoughts and had made a huge mistake. I did or said things that let down Master and Falun Gong. What should I do? I was remorsefully crying every day. Compassionate and great Master gave me the opportunity through which I returned to Falun Gong.

I feel eternally grateful that Master gave me a chance to start over. He rescued me one more time from hell. I have written a solemn declaration to renew Falun Gong practice. Soon after, my body fully recovered.
