Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 18 cities or counties in 9 provinces. In this report, 7 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 27 practitioners were illegally arrested.

On April 2, 2008, practitioner Ms. Zhang Yuzhi (about 50 years old) was reported to police while she was distributing truth-clarifying materials in Suibin County. Officers from the Branch No. 209 610 Office of the Baoquanlin Branch of the Agriculture Department of Heilongjiang Province went to Ms. Zhang's home to wait for her return. When Ms. Zhang returned home, the officers arrested her, her granddaughter, 7-year-old Liang Sixue, and the driver (a non-practitioner), and took them to the detention centre. The next day, the police ransacked Ms. Zhang's home, and took away her computer and truth-clarifying materials. At the same time, officers from Suibin Police Station arrested practitioner Ms. Lin Baochang. Ms. Zhang Yuzhi and Ms. Lin Baochang are currently detained in Suibin Detention Centre.

On the night of Feb. 28, Mr. Liu Dequan borrowed a car from relatives and drove with Ms. Yu Yongzhen and Mr. Du Yunfeng to the 3^rd Team in Branch No. 850 to distribute truth-clarifying materials. They were reported to police. Ms. Yu and Mr. Du were arrested by officers of the Branch No. 850 Police Station. Mr. Liu Dequan escaped with righteous thoughts but could not return home. The car was held at the police station.

Police officers ransacked the homes of Ms. Yu Yongzhen, Mr. Du Yunfeng and Mr. Liu Dequan, confiscating a computer and other items from Mr. Du's home. Ms. Yu and Mr. Du are currently illegally detained in Lianzhushan Detention Centre and are not allowed visitation from family members.

At around 2 p.m. on March 13, 2008, police officers from Beicheng Police Station in Shulan City

broke into the home of practitioner Ms. Dong Haifen, ransacked it, and arrested her.

They had brought along with them truth-clarification materials that they had prepared ahead of time as falsified evidence for persecution. Ms. Dong is currently illegally detained in Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Changchun.

On the afternoon of April 8, after practitioner Ms. Zhang Lizhen was arrested, Ms. Yang Xiaofeng was also arrested. On the morning of April 9, officers from Huanan Police Station ransacked Ms. Yang's home. The two practitioners are currently detained in Huanan Detention Centre.

Ms. Liu Qinghua, 46 years old, from Sipin City, Jilin Province, was illegally detained in the No.5 Section of Panjin Prison. Because of her liver disease, she stayed in a prison section specifically for sick inmates for nearly six months. During this period, her family visited the prison management and tried to have her temporarily released for medical treatment. However, the prison refused to do so with the excuse that she refused to write a "guarantee statement" renouncing Falun Gong. Ms. Liu is therefore still in the prison section for sick inmates.

On April 2, police from Haidian District, Beijing arrested practitioner Wang Qi's daughter and illegally detained her in Haidian Police Station.

The 610 Office of the Huairou National Security Department in Beijing used praparations for the Olympics as an excuse to illegally arrest many practitioners, including Ms. Lu Xiuzhen and her son. Officers deceived her son into providing information about practitioner Ms. Li Baoying, causing Ms. Li to become homeless to avoid arrest.

On April 2, 2008, practitioner Ms. Liu Ruiqiu from Jinan City was arrested. On the afternoon of April 7, police ransacked her home.

10. [Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Lu Meier from Xinbei Village, Xiadian Township Arrested

Ms. Lu Meier from Xinbei Village, Xiadian Township was arrested at her home at 10 a.m. on April 9.

On April 6, 2008, Ms. Xu Zhiqin and Ms. Zheng Guiqing from Tiantie Group in She County were reported to the police and arrested while they were clarifying the truth in She County. They are currently detained in the She County Procuratorate and are not allowed any family visits.

On the morning of April 10, 2008, the homes of practitioners Mr. Zhao Liuzhu (in his 70's), and his son-in-law, Mr. Shi San, from Xinzheng area in Zhengzhou City were ransacked by police officers from Chengguan Township Police Station. The police took away truth-clarification materials, computers and printers. Mr. Zhao Liuzhu's son, Mr. Zhao Suwei (a non-practitioner), his daughter-in-law, daughter and granddaughter were also interrogated. Mr. Shi San escaped from Chengguan Township Police Station with righteous thoughts but his whereabouts remain unknown. Mr. Zhao Liuzhu and Mr. Zhao Shuwei are currently illegally detained in Xinzheng City Detention Centre.

Mr. Zhao Liuzhu is retired from the Forest Department. In 2000, he was arrested while discussing with fellow practitioners about going to appeal for justice for Falun Dafa. He was detained for two or three months at that time.

Practitioner Ms. Chen Shuzhi from Xinzheng City was arrested while going to Beijing to appeal in 2000. She was detained and subjected to brainwashing for one year in Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp in Xinzheng City. After she returned home, her workplace, the Water Department of Xinzheng City, arranged people to monitor her 24 hours a day, even staying at her home at night to harass her.

Practitioner Ms. Yu Taohua, in her 70's, was arrested at a railway station after being found carrying truth-clarification CDs and other materials. She was detained in a brainwashing center and not allowed to sleep. She was subjected to forced "transformation" methods.

In 2007, officers in the city of Huainan arrested more than 40 practitioners.

On the morning of April 9, practitioner Ms. Fan Xianglian from Fangcheng County was arrested by Zhang Ruowei and others from the National Security Department of Fangcheng County Police Station. Her daughter was arrested at the same time but released in the afternoon. Ms. Fan Xianglian is currently illegally detained in Fangcheng Detention Centre.

At the end of November 2007, practitioners Ms. Quan Haiyan and Ms. Wan Xuanfang were arrested while clarifying the truth. They were detained in Sha City Detention Centre. Quan Haiyan and Wan Xuanfang were illegally sentenced to three years in prison.

On around April 6, 2008, practitioner Mr. Fan Zhongfa (nearly 70 years old) from Meichuan Township, Wuxue City was arrested by police from the Wuxue 610 Office and the Meichuan Township Police Station. On April 7, they searched Mr. Fan's home. The whereabouts of Mr. Fan Zhongfa remain unknown.

On March 24, 2008, police broke into and ransacked the home of practitioner Ms. Zhu Xuezhen in Xiaoxita, Yiling District, Yichang City. The next day, police arrested Ms. Zhu and detained her in Yiling District Detention Center.

On March 25, practitioners Ms. Chen Benfeng and Ms. Cao Tianxiu from Yiling District, Yichang City were arrested while distributing truth-clarification materials. They are currently detained in Xiaoxita Detention Center in Yiling District, Yichang City.

At around 10:30 a.m. on April 10, 2008, Yunyan District Court in Guiyang City illegally sentenced practitioners Mr. Li Donghong, Mr. Jia Lian and Ms. Xu Qihua.

19. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhou Hongmei Arrested

At around 10 a.m. on April 10, 2008, more than 10 police officers from Yangluojie Police Station, Xinzhou District Police Station and the National Security Department in Wuhan City arrested practitioner Ms. Zhou Hongmei. Later, Ms. Zhou's home was ransacked.

20. [Mengyin County, Shandong Province] Mr. and Mrs. Xu Zhidong Arrested

On the afternoon of March 28, 2008, police from the 610 Office in Jiuzai Township, Mengying County and the Jiuzai Township Police Station went to search the home of practitioner Mr. Xu Zhidong in Beimo Village, Jiuzai Township. On the morning of April 7, police arrested Mr. Xu and his wife, ransacking their home again. They confiscated video players and two TV sets.
