Beijing: the Persecution of Practitioner Fan Jirong

(Clearwisdom.net) Beijing Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Fan Jirong was illegally arrested several times solely because she practices Falun Gong. At present, she is held at the Daxing Forced Labor Camp. This is the second time she has been imprisoned in a labor camp.

Ms. Fan is a housewife in her forties. She used to have arthritis which was so severe that it caused deformities in her legs. After she began practicing Falun Gong, her arthritis and high blood pressure disappeared. Her mental state also improved. Because she benefited so much, she became a steadfast practitioner and would not give up her belief, even when persecuted.

In November 2001, 610 Office agents and National Security Team members took her to the Daxing Forced Labor Camp, where she was imprisoned for approximately eighteen months. Also, many of her family's belongings were confiscated. Her child, who was in junior high school, was thus deprived of his mother's care. At the labor camp, Ms. Fan was subjected to tortures that are beyond most people's imagination. In order to "transform" her, guards brutally tortured her with all kinds of methods, such as beatings, electrical shocks, starvation, deprivation of sleep, and denial of bathroom use for long periods of time.

When she was tired, she was beaten for just closing her eyes. In the summer, she was forced to stand under the baking sun. During the winter, she was forced to wear only her undergarments and stand in front of a fan. Instigated by the guards, other inmates beat and cursed her constantly. They also used electric batons to shock her. In this labor camp, practitioners who were unwavering and did not "transform" after enduring long periods of torture were locked up in small, individual cells. The cells did not have windows, and they were so little that the prisoners could not fully stand up. Ms. Fan was tortured in this way for more than a year. However, through her belief in Falun Dafa and the strength she experienced from "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," she passed through the ordeal with courage and determination and was released from the camp.

To help negate the lies the Chinese Communist Party have spread about Falun Dafa, Ms. Fan started to clarify the truth by sharing her own experiences. However, the 610 Office and the National Security Team were afraid of people learning the truth, so they regarded Ms. Fan as a threat. In March 2006, they arrested her and were paid a bonus for doing so. She was then taken to the Yanqing Detention Center. During detention, she developed some severe physical health problems. Fearing being held responsible, the police released her. Unfortunately, the police already regarded persecuting her as a means of getting rich and/or getting promoted, since they could get a 2,000 yuan bonus and gain favor with their superiors for arresting a Falun Gong practitioner. In November 2006, when the police found Ms. Fan in good health, they arrested her again. Several days later, she was taken to the Daxing Forced Labor Camp for a two-year term.

The staff at the Daxing Labor Camp escalated the torture of Ms. Fan. One month after she was imprisoned, her family members visited her. Two people had to help Ms. Fan walk in to the visiting room. She was listless, and her face was sallow and deformed due to weight loss. Several months later, the labor camp notified her family that she was taken to a hospital because she had developed high blood pressure, congestive heart failure and high blood sugar. The labor camp still would not release Ms. Fan despite her condition. Over several months, a very healthy person was tortured to such a debilitated condition.
