Information about Several Practitioners Who Died as a Result of Persecution (Clearwisdom.net)
Mr. Li Zhanbao from Changchun City Died Recently Due to Long-term Persecution
Mr. Li Zhanbao, 43, lived on Sheling Street, Wuxing Village, Shuangyang District, Changchun City, Jilin Province. Mr. Li began to practice Falun Gong in October 1996. He used to suffer from anemia and was diagnosed at several big hospitals at a late stage of an incurable illness. The doctors at the hospitals refused to treat him. A friend introduced him to Falun Gong. Not long afterwards, he miraculously attained good health.
Since the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Mr. Li was detained twice because he would not renounce the practice that saved his life. In December 2001, local police ransacked his home once more and detained him at Chaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. He was incarcerated in the First Brigade of the forced labor camp when When he was released one year later, his old illness recurred as a result of the ongoing persecution. However, local police officers continued to harass and threaten him and put him under long-term surveillance. Due to the physical and mental pressure, Mr. Li Zhanbao died on August 29, 2006.
Ms. Zhang Simin from Wuhan Died Due to Long-term Persecution
Ms. Zhang Simin, 49, was a Falun Dafa practitioner from Wuhan City, Hubei Province. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1995 and all of her old illnesses were cured; she became very healthy. Ms. Zhang was detained twice around July 20, 1999. The first time was at the beginning of the persecution, when she went to clarify the truth at the city government buildings. The second time, she was arrested and taken to a brainwashing center by staff from the 610 Office.
When Ms. Zhang was detained at the brainwashing center, her husband (a non-practitioner) suffered deeply because of his wife's persecution. He passed away in 2001. Ms. Zhang was laid off many years ago and when she returned home after her husband died, she had no income and had to work as an hourly worker at odd jobs. The CCP still did not spare her. Staff from the local 610 Office frequently harassed and threatened her.
Under the long-term harassment and threats, Mr. Zhang's old illness recurred and worsened. She died on February 2, 2006.
Ms. Tan Xiangxing Was Persecuted to Death by Police and Staff From the 610 Office of Changsha
Ms. Tan Xiangxing, 60, was a former worker at Changsha County Telecommunications Bureau. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1998. All of her former illnesses, including high blood pressure, heart disease, rheumatism, Meniere's Disease and tracheitis, were cured, and she became healthy in body and mind.
On July 21, 1999, Ms. Tan went to Beijing to clarify the truth. She was arrested and taken back to her hometown where she was detained and constantly monitored. In October 2000, she went to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Gong. Ms. Tan practiced the Falun Gong exercises in Tiananmen Square and was arrested by the local police. She was beaten and detained for two days. Later, she was detained at Changsha First Detention Center. Changsha County Court sentenced Ms. Tan to a three-year prison term.
During the first half of 2002, Tan Xiangxing was taken to Changsha Women's Prison. She was diagnosed with severe lung disease and the prison refused to take her. Changsha First Detention Center detained her for another six months before releasing her on bail for medical treatment. Her family members were forced to pay 2,000 yuan and had to mortgage their home. Her husband used to be an officer with the Changsha Police Station. Because he practiced Falun Dafa and cultivated Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, he was fired from his job, sentenced to forced labor, and lost his salary. Since October 2000, the police station has not paid him his salary.
Ms. Tan and her husband were constantly under surveillance. Staff from the local 610 Office, police officers, members of the resident committee, and staff from the county government harassed them at home. They were not allowed to visit other practitioners and were required to report to the 610 Office if other practitioners visited them. After seven years of mental and physical persecution, and after losing her livelihood, Ms. Tan passed away at the end of November 2005.
