In November 1997, the Dalian City Kidney Transplant Center was established at the Dalian City Friendship Hospital. As of date it has "successfully" performed nearly 300 kidney transplants.

In December 2002, it performed the first live kidney transplant in Liaoning Province.

Hu Zhilin, the director of the Dalian City Kidney Transplant Center, launched the kidney transplant clinical and scientific research effort in 1985. To date, he has performed more than 500 kidney transplants.

On February 1, 2002, Dalian City Friendship Hospital doctors performed one liver and four kidney transplants within a time frame of 14 hours.

The valor surgical unit of Dalian City Friendship Hospital has performed a total of forty liver transplants, and two transplants of liver and kidney for the same patients.

Wei Li, male, 43, an official of the Chaoyang Bureau of Industry and Commerce in Beijing, was given a kidney transplant at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. The cost was 800,000 yuan, of which half was paid by the government, and he had to pay the remainder. He died on May 19, 2005.
