The Persecution of Dafa Practitioners by the Yuhua District Court in Shijiazhuang City
(Clearwisdom.net) On September 6, 2005, Shijiazhuang Falun Gong
practitioner Sun Li was illegally arrested. After the police found
some copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party
and Falun Gong truth-clarifying flyers in her house, they charged
her with unfounded crimes in violation of Chinese law. Toward the end of
December 2005, Shijiazhuang's Yuhua District Court conducted a secret court
hearing. Falun Gong practitioner Duan Shengsheng, who was arrested the same day
as Sun Li, was also at the court hearing. Sun Li was at that time in extremely
weak physical condition. She is currently being incarcerated at the Number 2
Detention Center in Shijiazhuang. She strongly demands her immediate and
unconditional release. Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Sun Li was once detained at the Honglou Hotel, a
makeshift detention center that police in the Yuhua Precinct are using. They
occupy an entire floor and torture good people there without restraint. Facing
police brutality, Sun Li refused to answer any questions or to sign any
document. The police said, "Others have confessed and told us about you;
why don't you confess?" Sun Li refused to answer. There is a certain torture device called a "metal chair" that is
usually used on murderers and drug addicts. It is used to prevent dangerous
criminals from doing anything violent. Sun Li, a kind woman in her 50's, was
forced to sit in this chair for ten days and nights. They intended to deprive
her of sleep. When she was extremely sleepy and foggy-headed, the perpetrators
forced her to admit her so-called "crime." This is clearly a case of
extracting a confession under torture. During the court hearing, Sun Li told the judge and the police that what she
wrote during the torture and interrogation was completely untrue and must be
revoked. She said, "I have done nothing dangerous to people or society;
believing in 'Truth, Compassion, Tolerance' and wanting to be a good person is
not wrong." She also said that the Nine Commentaries and Falun Gong
flyers are beneficial for society, and that people have the right to know the
truth. An ignorant judge actually compared the Nine Commentaries and the
Falun Gong truth-clarification materials to guns and ammunition. He said,
"If we found those materials at your house, you are a criminal to be
sentenced to jail." Duan Shengsheng was charged because the police found some electronic
components, which they said was used in "TV channel tapping." (Note:
Some Falun Gong practitioners inside China have employed the peaceful method of
tapping into television signals to broadcast the truth about Falun Gong.) Duan
Shengsheng has a business repairing electronic devices; the components were for
daily use in his job. Shijiazhuang City's Yuhua District Court and agents from the local 610
Office repeatedly worked together to plot illegal trials of Falun Gong
practitioners. Using deceit and other dirty tactics, they sentenced many Falun
Gong practitioners to prison. In the spring of 2001, the Yuhua District Court sentenced Lu Shuxin to eight
years in prison. Lu Shuxin was a teacher in Shijiazhuang's Tatan School. Now Lu
Shuxin is incarcerated at the Baoding Prison, 77 July 1 East Road, Baoding City,
Hebei Province. Although neither Lu's family nor his employer was informed about
the hearing, a Yanzhao Evening News report still called it an "open
trial." In November 2002, Shijiazhuang's Jingjing Village practitioner Ms. Bai Yuzhi
demanded that the court allow her to hire a defense lawyer. The court couldn't
find any excuse to say no, so they gave Ms. Bai's family ten days to find a
"satisfactory" lawyer. Since Jiang Zemin's regime warned all lawyers
not to defend Falun Gong practitioners, the family could not find a lawyer to
take the case. In December 2002, the court held a secret trial without the defendant's
family members present. In the beginning of January 2003, Bai Yuzhi started a
hunger strike (no food and water) to protest the illegal sentence. The hunger
strike was undertaken at Shijiazhuang's Number 2 Detention Center. In February
2003, Ms. Bai's condition became critical. Her family members appeared before
the court to ask for her release on medical parole. After the court and the
detention center pushed the responsibility back and forth, which effectively
delayed any response, the court turned down the family's request and denied them
further visitation rights. In March 2003, Ms. Bai was once again in critical
condition. Her family again went to the court to ask for her release on medical
parole. Not only did the courts ignore the family's request, they handed down a
five-year sentence without any legal grounds. They didn't even inform the family
about the sentence. Responsible offices, institutions and persons from Shijiazhuang City's Number
