By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Zhao Mingkuan of Jiubao Village, Wubao Town, Zhuolu County, Hebei Province is a steadfast Falun Dafa practitioner who has suffered severe persecution.

After he started practicing, his family lived in harmony, his sickness was cured, and his health improved. His wife Guo Wen-e benefited as well through the relief of her asthma condition, from which she had suffered for decades. After Jiang's regime started persecuting Falun Dafa, Zhao Mingkuan and a dozen practitioners went to Beijing to clarify the truth and validate the Fa on October 3, 1999. He returned on October 6 and was illegally arrested the following night at 11:00 p.m. The local police took him to the county detention center.

On October 8, committee members Li Fuzhen and Guo Chunhong took Guo Wen-e to the village committee. Liu Ting, village police officer Li Wenyu, and town secretary Wang were also present. They threatened and cursed at her, saying, "Zhao Mingkuan is completely guilty and he'll be put away for 10 years. We don't care where you get the money, but if you pay us 5,000 yuan we will lighten the sentence. All members of your family are criminals now, so you have to cooperate with the government." They detained her there for half a day. Later, Liu Ting let her go, saying that she had to go home and bring them the money. That afternoon, Guo Chunhong brought her back to the village group and threatened her again, not letting her go until after 10:00 p.m.

They continued this for more than ten days and sent people to watch the house. On October 15, Li Fuzhen, Guo Chunhong, town police officer Li Wenyu, and village security officers went to Zhao Mingkuan's house to ransack it. Since they couldn't find anything valuable, they took his television, tape recorder, VCR, books, and Falun Dafa cassettes and materials, even though they didn't have a warrant. Before they left, Li Wenyu attempted to extort money from her by threatening to take away their land and house. As a result, Guo Wen-e was gravely frightened and fell ill. She subsequently became confused whenever people visited their house, and she was unable to continue practicing Falun Dafa.

Zhao Mingkuan was illegally detained for two weeks. When he returned home, his wife's condition improved. After a few days, village committee members Liu Ting, Guo Chunhong, Zhang Mingfu and Li Fuzhen went to his house to brainwash him. They illegally confiscated his identification papers and monitored him, and forced him to report to them twice a day.

On April 10, 2002, village 610 Office agents Duyou and Li Fuzhen went to his house and said, "Don't practice anymore. If you do we'll lose our jobs." Zhao Mingkuan replied, "I'll practice as long as I am alive. If you don't let me practice, I will go to Beijing and clarify the truth. You can monitor me, but you can't monitor my mind." The 610 officers tried all kinds of inducements and threats, but he wouldn't cooperate. Finally Duyou said that the county police would arrest him.

On the next day, many practitioners from that village were arrested. Fearing that her husband might be as well, Guo Wen-e stopped practicing. She felt ill, and under the Communist Party's continuing persecution, she eventually passed away on August 14, 2004.
