1. Dafa Practitioners Held in the Jiamusi Labor Camp Are Forced to Work with Carcinogenic Materials and Brutally Beaten If They Refuse

(Clearwisdom.net) In order to make some quick money for themselves, prison guards at the Jiamusi Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province accepted illegal production projects, and forced labor camp inmates, which included Falun Gong practitioners, to do the intensive production work. They used plastic materials with toxin levels exceeding the industry standard to make cell phone cases. This caused serious harm to the health of the inmates who handled these materials. Because of the slave labor and toxic materials, Falun Gong practitioners suffered tremendously and were not able to work after a while. Practitioners who refused to do the work were severely beaten.

Forced Slave Labor Involving Carcinogenic Materials

Starting on March 8, 2003, all of the inmates from the No. 9 Brigade of the Jiamusi Labor Camp, totaling more than 80 people, were forced to make cell phone cases. The plastic was of poor quality and gave off an irritating smell that brought about a harsh choking sensation. Through lab testing, it was determined that the toxin levels in the materials used were well beyond the industry standard, and could cause cancer. Police agents wore large face masks while guarding us, and never entered the production area while we were working there. Meanwhile the prison authorities and the company that contracted the forced labor used these toxic materials to take advantage of consumers.

There was a daily production quota that needed to be filled or overtime work was mandatory until the production quota was reached. Many practitioners and inmates suffered from constant bloody noses, irregular heartbeats, and difficulty in breathing. Shi Jing had a pale face, and collapsed on the worktable from being overworked. Later, when she revived a little, she was forced to continue working.

Falun Gong Practitioners Experience Breathing Difficulties and Suffer From Inflamed Eyes Due to Exposure to Toxic Dust

In April 2002, the No. 7 Brigade received a production project making flax [a type of vegetable fiber similar to linen fiber] cushions for automotive seats. Practitioners were forced to perform slave labor from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. nonstop. This kind of flax produces a lot of dust, which is harmful to one's health, irritates the respiratory system and causes an itchy throat and difficulty in breathing. There were no safety measures in place in the production area. Practitioner Cao Xiuxia became ill from the long hours of slave labor and terrible working conditions. Because she could not work any more, prison guard Sun Limin brutally beat her.

In July 2002, authorities responsible for the No. 7 Brigade forced Falun Gong practitioners to construct paper boxes for mooncakes [a traditional Chinese dessert], using toxic, foul-smelling glue. Many practitioners were sickened, with inflamed and swollen eyes, but the prison guards didn't care.

When Practitioners Refused To Do the Slave Labor, They Were Brutally Beaten and Handcuffed

The authorities forced Falun Gong practitioners to do slave labor, and when practitioners refused they were brutally beaten. A lot of Falun Gong practitioners were seriously beaten, and exposed under the dangerously hot summer sun for many hours. Some practitioners were handcuffed for more than a month and when they were uncuffed, their hands, lower backs and legs had severe bruises, and they were unable to even walk. Yet, before they could recover, they were immediately sent to do more forced labor. Guards would often beat, kick and handcuff practitioners at will without even paying attention to the duration of the handcuffing. Some practitioners were over 60 years old, but they would still beat and handcuff them.

Prison guard Li Xiujin beat Falun Gong practitioners many times. Since January 2003, we know for certain that she beat Falun Gong practitioners at least 13 times just because they were protesting the persecution and refusing to do slave labor. Li Xiujin beat practitioners Kang Aimin, Li Ping and Zheng Yingchun so severely that they collapsed. When any practitioner could not keep up with the disciplinary exercise regimen, Li Xiujing would knock him or her to the ground. Some practitioners were knocked unconscious, but the prison guards didn't care; they just walked away after the beatings. Some practitioners' ear drums were ruptured from the severe beatings, so that they were unable to hear. One female practitioner was 50 years old and was brutally beaten until she had black and blue marks all over her upper body, and a swollen face. She was handcuffed for a long time and was in extreme pain, so that she was unable to move. Her eyes could not see properly from the heavy slaps she received on her face when the guard used his boots to strike her face.

Hiding the Truth of the Persecution

In the labor camp, practitioners were severely undernourished. They were forced to eat blackened, moldy noodles and cabbage soup the whole winter, which caused massive diarrhea among practitioners. Whenever the inspection officials came, the food served was of better quality to fool them, and the labor camp hid those practitioners who were severely beaten and disabled from the torture. The authorities also forced some inmates who were convicted criminals to pretend to be Falun Gong practitioners and say positive things about the labor camp. In order to hide the evidence of their crimes against Falun Dafa practitioners, prison guards would videotape themselves buying cakes for practitioners and treating practitioners well.

Prison Guards Take Advantage of the Persecution of Falun Gong to Make Money

Prison guards extorted money from Falun Gong practitioners in the form of large fines. Prison guard Wang Xiurong publicly told Falun Gong practitioners that if they wanted to be released, they had to pay 15,000 yuan per person [500 yuan is the average monthly salary for an urban worker in China]. Liu Weidong and Li Xiujin extorted money and other items, including food, from practitioners' family members to buy a reduction in the jail terms. The prison guards claimed publicly that they could not eat all the food they confiscated. The Brigadier said in front of witnesses, "Whoever pays money, I will 'help' him get out." Practitioners were told they had to pay the going rate of 1,000 yuan to buy a reduction of one month from their jail term. When some practitioners had poor health and were not be able to do the slave labor, He Qiang would order his subordinates to beat them brutally. If practitioners attempted to reason with the guards and explain that their human rights were being violated, their words were met with a threat that their beatings had been too easy on them. The guards even charged money for the labor camp uniforms. Any practitioner who refused to wear a prison uniform on the grounds that they were not criminals incurred a severe beating from the prison guards. On the other hand, any practitioner that agreed to wear a uniform was forced to pay money to wear it.

2. Jianxin Labor Camp Authorities in Tianjin City Enslave Detainees to Produce Contaminated Food

January 2, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) Jianxin Labor Camp of Tianjin City was expanded especially for tormenting Dafa practitioners. Since the inception of the Sixth Division for female detainees, several hundred Dafa practitioners have been detained there. Most were older than fifty years of age, the oldest being seventy three years old.

Some older people, despite hypertension and poor eyesight, were still forced to do delicate, vision-stressing, intensive work at night under poor lighting conditions. They fell from their beds, time and again. Some people who have serious illnesses and cannot take care of themselves are detained there. Under those severe conditions, some Dafa practitioners developed pus-oozing scabies. Nonetheless the labor camp forces them to process food, even though they should not come in contact with food. The camp even ordered criminal prisoners with scabies and prostitutes with venereal diseases to pick melon seeds, pack chocolate and other candies, and to fold cake boxes. The food processing work is performed by people sitting on their beds.

Good sanitation is especially critical for food processing, and these unsanitary practices jeopardize the public's health. Detainees with contagious diseases are also forced to assemble items that contain edible items for children, putting children's health at serious risk.

The labor camp forces Dafa practitioners to work for as long as 17-18 hours each day and the practitioners are not allowed to sleep. If they cannot finish their assigned work load the Dafa practitioners are not allowed to sleep; some of them even have to work through the night without sleep for several days. At most they are only allowed to sleep for one or two hours a day.

Many of the Dafa practitioners, especially the older ones, began Falun Gong cultivation to heal their illnesses and improve their health. Because of the vicious environment in the camp, the practitioners are forbidden from reading Dafa books and from practicing Falun Gong. Not only that, in addition to prolonged work hours and exhausting work, they endure intolerable mental and physical pressure. That is the reason why some of them have relapses of their illnesses, which were cured before they were abducted. One older woman with the surname Li had high blood pressure of over 200 and had serious heart problems, but was still forced to finish her daily assigned workload. One night at 12 o'clock she collapsed in the bathroom. They tried for over one hour to resuscitate her in the bathroom but could not bring her around. The camp had to send her to the hospital for emergency medical intervention. She was diagnosed with a massive cerebral hemorrhage. After her skull was opened, the doctors found three out of the four cerebral ventricles had massive hemorrhages. Afterwards, the police tried to avoid responsibility by inciting criminal prisoners and those people who had turned against Dafa under pressure of the persecution to create false evidence to deceive her family and keep the facts from them.

3. The Dalian Labor Camp Exploits Forced Labor to Earn More than 1,500,000 Yuan a Year

January 15, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) As of 2001, the Dalian Forced Labor Camp, Liaoning Province started to demand more labor from its detainees in order to increase production. The camp persecuted Falun Gong practitioners by overloading them with work and exploiting their labor. Practitioners were forced to work 14-15 hours a day or even longer. They were often punished physically and had to work overtime. Practitioners slept no more than 6 hours every day, and many of them slept as few as 2-3 hours.

There were a lot of unwritten rules imposed on practitioners while performing forced labor. For example, practitioners could not talk, nor could they move their lips, close their eyes, cross their legs, or even have their legs touching each other when sitting. They were rarely allowed to use the bathroom during their labor and they had no more than 10 minutes to use the facilities, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. If they had an urgent need to use the bathroom, it had to be authorized by the room leader, the team leader, and the Captain. There was no time allowed for bowel movements, which was said to be "too time consuming." Practitioners had to wait until bedtime. As a result, many people developed constipation, hemorrhoids and were in great pain.

Falun Gong practitioners in the Dalian Forced Labor Camp had to work from 5 a.m. until 10 or 11 p.m. It was not unusual for them to work overtime until midnight or 2 a.m. the following morning, which became a daily routine. They had less than two hours a day to eat all three meals. On one occasion, the police intensified the persecution and would not allow the practitioners to go to sleep at night, even after they finished their work. The police demanded that practitioners who refused to compromise their belief and renounce Falun Dafa had to memorize the regulations of the labor camp. If the practitioners refused to do so, they would be forced to stand until the following morning, and then they still had to go to work that day.

The female practitioners worked in the lobby on the first floor. The lobby was transformed into a closed room with only one door for ventilation and airflow. During the summer, the room was hot and often crowded with people, and many practitioners fainted. Sometimes there were many incidents of fainting in any given day. Having to sit for long periods of time without moving, many people ended up having back pain and swollen feet. Even after developing these problems, they were still not allowed to rest. One Dafa practitioner, Ms. Yu Shoufen, was in the labor camp for three years and became extremely weak because of the excessive forced labor and malnutrition. She lost the feeling in both legs, and now has to walk by pushing her arms against the walls, dragging both her legs. She still is forced to work every day, even under this condition.

At the beginning, the police would give those practitioners who compromised under pressure and gave up their belief, proper rest when they did not feel well. The determined practitioners would not receive such any such "bonus." However, in order to make more money, the police have canceled this bonus and do not even give any sick practitioners time off. Every day, there was a certain quota of work needing to be done. If it could not be finished that day, everyone in the room would have to work overtime.

A simple calculation can show how much money the forced labor camp makes out of the labor of its prisoners (both practitioners and non-practitioners). Take the job of sorting beans for example: One practitioner needs to sort 5 bags of beans each day, which can sell for 25 yuan (lowest average number). There were 56 people in a team and a total of 3 teams, (25 yuan/person) x (56 people/team) x (3 teams) = 4,200 yuan. Supposing there are 30 days in a month, the net production value was 126,000 yuan a month, amounting to 1.5 million yuan a year (lowest average value). [Note: 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly salary of an urban worker in China.]

The following list is evidence of how the Dalian Forced Labor Camp persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and exploited their labor to make money.

4. Falun Gong Practitioners Endure Endless, Intensive Forced Labor at Langfang City Detention Center, Hebei Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Whoever is sent to Langfang City Detention Center learns that the forced labor there is extremely intensive and unendurable. There are always countless beans waiting to be picked and chopsticks waiting to be wrapped up. The person in charge assigns daily jobs to every detainee. Detainees who are unable to finish their assignments, are punished by either not being allowed to sleep or by being given evening duty. They are forced to work more than 10 hours every day. On hot summer days, because of working in poorly ventilated cells, many suffer heatstroke. Newcomers usually face an even harsher environment since they need time to learn those labor skills. If they cannot finish their assignments during the daytime, they are forced to continue their labor at night. The monitor in each cell does not allow them to go sleep if they have not finished their assignments. Some of them finally get their job done just before daybreak. Then the next day's assignment is waiting for them. Although detainees are forced to perform such intensive labor, they are only given two buns and a bowl of light soup per meal. Male detainees usually are unable to eat enough food every day, not to mention getting enough nutrition. After working for an entire day, everyone's stomach is rumbling with hunger.

The only time they get a break is when some authorities come to visit or inspect the detention center. At that time, the officer asks everyone stop working and takes the products away and hides them well. All detainees would start cleaning cells and yards. Then they would be asked to sit down on the ground and recite the detention center's rules and regulations. After the visitors leave, they would begin their work again. Actually the above-mentioned situations currently take place in all detention centers and labor camps in China. The intensity of the forced labor is unimaginable. All detainees have been turned into slave laborers.

Currently many Falun Gong practitioners have been sent into detention centers, labor camps and jails. As a result, they have experienced all the darkness and brutality. They have been suffering barbarous torture for refusing to be treated so inhumanely, but they have never yielded to the persecution. In China, even average citizens in many respects have no human rights, not to mention those detainees. I sincerely hope all kind-hearted people in the world will give their concern and support to Chinese Falun Gong practitioners!

5. Toys for Export Made at the Hewan Forced Labor Camp, Wuhan City, Hubei Province

By a Dafa Practitioner from Wuhan

(Clearwisdom.net) Officials at the Hewan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan City have for a long time forced detainees to make toys for export, including an eagle toy and a bear toy. The workshop starts at 6:00 a.m. and stays open until 2:00 a.m. the next morning.

The Sixth Team in the Hewan Forced Labor Camp specializes in persecuting women Falun Dafa practitioners. Police officer Huang Hong, a key member of the team, uses savage methods to torture practitioners who are steadfast in their faith. Tortures include long-term sleep deprivation, isolation in a small cell, and other torments. Other police officers, women named Hu, Hou, and He are also involved in the persecution.

1. Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp Enslaves Practitioners, Forcing Them To Produce Traffic Control Batons and Toothpicks

(Clearwisdom.net) In the fifth brigade of the Changlinzi Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, the Dafa practitioners who have better eyesight are forced to weld together traffic control batons used by traffic police. The batons are exported to South Korea.

Practitioners with worse eyesight are forced to make toothpicks. The labor camp forces them to work 16-17 hours a day. Those who can't work as fast end up having to work day and night. Corn noodles and bread are the only food ever available. Only on April 24, when higher authorities came to inspect the labor camp, were the practitioners given something better to eat. Practitioners receive electric shock torture and beatings all the time.

The police here have totally lost control in persecuting Dafa practitioners. They often start torturing practitioners after mealtime. Some of them even force-feed practitioners with alcohol.

We call for the support of all kindhearted people to ask the labor camps in China to stop this illegal slavery and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

2. Samples of Products Made by Falun Gong Practitioners Imprisoned in the Wangcun Labor Camp (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net, March 13, 2004) The following photos show samples of products that Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned in the Wangcun Labor Camp were forced to produce.

These are half pre-fabricated artificial eyelashes. To make a pair of artificial eyelashes, one needs to use tweezers to pick up more than 300 strands of hair and adhere them on the adhesive tape along the template. One earns 27 cents1 for each pair. Then the product has to go through several procedures including cutting, braising and shape-finalization to finish. A pair of finished false eyelashes costs 35 cents. This work places great strain on the worker's eyes. On average, a person has to make 20 to 30 pairs a day.

It costs 8 cents for a piece of 39-fold-per-side coil and 11 cents for a piece of 52-fold-per-side coil. On average, a person has to produce 20 to 30 pieces a day.

It costs 8 cents for a necklace of this type. On average, one has to produce about 100 pieces a day.

Each bundle contains 12 flowers. It costs 2 Yuan2 for a bundle. On average, a person has to make two dozen per day.

Most of these kinds of handcrafts are exported. We strongly appeal to all countries in the world to boycott the handcrafts produced by prisoners in China's labor camps. This is in direct violation of international laws and norms.

3. Xinjiang Tebian Electric Corporation Teams Up with Changji Forced Labor Camp to Make Products with Slave Labor

Exposing Slave Labor in a Company with International Distribution

By a Dafa Practitioner in Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China

(Clearwisdom.net) On March 2002, Xinjiang Tebian Electric Corporation (TBEA) made a formal agreement with the Xinjiang Changji Forced Labor Camp to set up a production unit at the Changji Labor Camp. They agreed to have Falun Gong practitioners and other detainees work for no compensation. Their only goal was to make a big profit for TBEA. The products are machine parts for the manufacture of utensils and other semi-finished products.

View of Xinjiang TBEA Corporation

Xinjiang Changji Labor Camp only focuses on profits. Certain members of the prison staff are so depraved and immoral they were deemed unqualified to work for other judicial systems. Changji Labor Camp has set economic goals for its different sections. Economic benefits are the driving force for the promotion and bonus of the prison's employees.

Each section has to turn over its earnings to retain its position in the Labor Camp. At the same time, all employees want to assure that their economic desires are met. Therefore, to assure that they maintain a high level of earnings, they cruelly persecute the detained Falun Gong practitioners and other detainees. They force the detainees to work continuously. If they resist, they are insulted and beaten.

The supervision method is very simple but harsh. The policemen's minds are driven by greed, thus their depraved thoughts allow them to enslave and torture the detainees. They also have no qualms about extending the time in the labor camp of those they have enslaved.

Another torture method is to keep the detainees hungry. Year-in and year-out, the detainees are fed only soup with some Chinese cabbage. (Note: This kind of food is low in calories and it is not nutritious. It is not enough to keep a person fully fed, but only enough to keep the person from dying.) They only are given a little bit of meat on some major holidays.

During an inspection or visit, the Labor Camp will pretend to serve chicken and beef to fool the visitors. After the inspectors or visitors leave, the food will be taken away. The Labor Camp would also post menus, which show meals with meat as a smokescreen.

Xinjiang Changji Forced Labor Camp
(located about five miles from Xinjiang Wujiaqu City)

The TBEA workshop in No. 6 Brigade is divided into four small groups: cutting board machine group, assembly group, insulation finishing group, and wooden fixtures group.

Many steadfast Falun Gong practitioners are forced to work in the TBEA workshop. They suffer a lot. Among them are Ge Lijun, Nu Erlan, Wang Xiu, Wang Hui, and Wang Hongjun, and others.

This illegal TBEA workplace is poorly set up and thus the detainees are continuously exposed to dust and other pollutants. They produce the parts for the final products, but do not often have the tools or know-how to do it well. Thus the products would not pass quality control in a normal workplace, especially since the raw materials used are scraps and waste materials from TBEA. It is hard to imagine what kind of trouble products assembled under such conditions will bring the buyer. However, TBEA does not care about the suffering of the detainees, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, and the inferior quality of the products, they only wish to continue to increase production to receive more and larger orders and make big profits.

Besides Falun Gong practitioners, the staff members also suffer from the enslavement. Most of them are of low education and have no real technical skills. The Labor Camp does not perceive this as a major problem. In this so-called "Ministry Level Civilized Labor Camp," Commissar Zhu Xuefei (former commissar), Director Li Jianjiang (present commissar) and other ordinary policeman "diligently" insult and beat the detainees. A person without elementary education in the labor camp can be trained as a "skilled worker" within a very short time. As the detainees are not skilled with the proper use of the tools, suffer from long-term sleep deprivation and malnutrition, endure mental and physical torture from the policemen and the task leader, many of the detainees injure their fingers and feet. Yet, although they continue to suffer in these appalling conditions, they have no recourse and cannot stop working or they will be physically punished for "escaping from work." The detainees' bodies are in horrible condition. One can see open wounds, scratches and signs of beatings all over their entire bodies.

TBEA announced that it publicly traded and was a well-recognized national level corporation in a good competitive situation. Besides Jiang's regime, including numerous Chinese government agencies, TBEA received favorite recommendations from foreign entities, such as the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS), U.S. Quality and Environmental Professional Safety, the International High Pressure industries, as well as companies from Italy. TBEA products are sold in Canada, Australia, Malaysia, India, Singapore, and twenty more countries and regions throughout the world. Yet no one seems to realize that components in TBEA's products are produced through slave labor in the labor camps.

TBEA is secretly circumventing international trading laws as it is hiding from the international community the fact that components in its products are produced through slave labor. They suppress the fact that they are willing participants in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners at Changji Labor Camp in Xinjiang. They naturally do not disclose information that clearly shows that they are in violation of human rights and other international trade laws.

We appeal to the international community and all international investigative entities to scrutinize and verify the above facts. This company is violating international laws and covenants. Please, help us stop this exploitation and this violation of human labor laws. Please stop this violation of international laws, revoke international commendations of this company and put an end to this manipulation of international trust. This company does not deserve to be recognized and its products should not be sold in the international market. We appeal to all businesses worldwide to no longer purchase products manufactured by TBEA.

TBEA and China's inhuman labor camps should be condemned for intimidating and forcing detainees to work for huge profits. We condemn TBEA's board chairman, Zhang Xin, who is the congressional representative of Changji. He does not care about people's sufferings. Instead, he is blinded by financial gain and power, conceals his evil deeds, and colludes with Jiang's cohorts to brutally persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

4. Practitioners Forced to Do Slave Labor and Exposed to Environmental Contamination at the Qingpu Female Forced Labor Camp in Shanghai, China

(Clearwisdom.net)

1. Packaging "Chachaxiang Seeds" under Unsanitary Conditions

For some time, the fifth team (a team formed solely to torture Falun Gong practitioners) at the Shanghai Qingpu Female Labor Camp was hired to package "Chachaxiang Seeds" (a food product). Practitioners put stickers on small plastic clamps (free giveaway with a purchase) and enclose one with each seed bag. The clamps were kept in washbasins generally used for washing the face and feet. Everyone was given one basin. This work is very unsanitary! Clamps that fall on the ground and are stepped on are not cleaned before they are put into the seed bags.

Besides Falun Gong practitioners, members of the fifth team include drug abusers, thieves, prostitutes and those who committed fraud. Most of those prisoners suffer from skin diseases. Isn't it obvious that a healthy person, having to live in such an unsanitary environment, would become infected with the same diseases? These rooms serve as bedrooms and working areas. Isn't it true that producing food-related products in such an environment is unsanitary and irresponsible? Wouldn't this be considered an environmental hazard and affect the consumers' health? They also package hairpins, rubber bands for the hair and backpacks that are used as promotional items. Work habits are appalling, as items such as food, clothes, etc. are dumped on the floor of the bedroom/working area for further processing. Even the people there say that they would not buy these products once they gain their freedom.

2. Forced Labor Involving Poisonous and Harmful Substances

Production changes from time to time. At one time the inmates had to package pencils. There were many boxes with pencils piled along the walls in the hallways and the lobby. Even the sunlight coming from the windows was blocked. Practitioners took the boxes into the bedrooms to package the pencils. When opening the boxes, there was an overpowering smell of paint. Isn't it well known that the paint on pencils is poisonous? The bedrooms are relatively small. There are10-20 people in each room. Pencils were piled up in the middle of the room. When moving around, one would inadvertently step on pencils. It was the middle of the summer and the windows were wide open, but the overpowering smell did not dissipate. Daily, these inmates work from 7 am to 9:30 pm, although the labor reform law, which regulates working hours, allows only six hours per day for such work. The pencils were moved to the hallways during the rest hours, but the smell remained. Generally it takes several days to complete each batch. The labor camp had taken on such tasks a number of times, though given the low profit margins, such work has been stopped.

3. High Intensity Labor

Camp authorities enforce production quotas. If the quota is not met, punishment ensues. Punishment includes sleep deprivation or being given only vegetables over a long period of time.

From late 2001 to early 2002, the most important task was to polish electronic components with a plastic material until they were smooth enough to fit into the respective electronic devices. The goal for those who renounced Falun Gong was 3.5 kg per day. The goal for steadfast Falun Gong practitioners was 7 kg. Sometimes practitioners would be forced to work until midnight. They often suffered from back and shoulder pain, as well as blurred vision. Thus, they were able to complete only about half of the assigned work. Their hands were swollen, their index fingers, because of constant use, got much bigger and their shoulder and elbow joints became stiff and painful. Regardless of the labor camp's regulation that stipulated working hours could not be extended beyond 11 pm (this is already unacceptable under labor reform laws), the captain of the fifth team would order Falun Gong practitioners and their monitors to change to a room without surveillance cameras, where they had to keep on working. There was no clock or watch in open view. The captain and a few monitors controlled the time. Sometimes when the captain would find the people still working he would ask everyone to go and sleep. The monitor would tell everyone to stop working. But, immediately after the captain left, the monitor would order them to go back to work. When practitioners protested, the monitor told them that the person in charge of production named Shao was in control of rules about sleeping times and not the captain.

The labor camp tried to increase the workload and prolong work hours to persecute the determined practitioners who refused to be brainwashed. The labor camp's intention was to destroy the practitioners' willpower. A practitioner, Ms. Qian, who was just about to be released, was forced to work daily until midnight. During that time the work was to connect light bulbs. A practitioner had to link eighteen small light bulbs together with metal clamps, which meant connecting two wires for each section. The goal was one and a half bags, or connecting many sets of a total number of 4,800 light bulbs daily. Many people's hands became deformed, finger-nails broken and some suffered from stiff finger joints or tendonitis. The practitioners were not allowed to sleep until the goal was reached. Meanwhile, the captain and monitors accused them of being lazy.

4. Deceiving the Practitioners and Covering up Crimes

Falun Gong practitioners asked the captains why they had to work these long hours and why they did not observe labor laws. The law stipulated that one should not work more than eight hours a day and the labor reform law stipulates a maximum of a 6-hour work day. The captains would come up with excuses and then deny everything. During official visits by higher-level government employees or other visitors, the captains ordered that the work tools and materials be hidden. Everyone had to sit down together and the captains would turn on the television and let the practitioners watch entertainment programs. Even those practitioners who were being punished and had to stand still over a long period of time got to sit down temporarily so no one would question the labor camp.

The aforementioned tells of the persecution Falun Dafa practitioners suffer at the Shanghai Qingpu Female Labor Camp. We hope that such information can be published and such persecution exposed.

******************

[Editor's note: Incidents where Dafa practitioners are being tortured and used as slave labor show the labor camps' intent. As Dafa practitioners, we should not follow such orders and demands from the corrupt labor camp staff. We have to adhere to what Teacher said in his new article "Stop the Evil Acts with Righteous Thoughts." Practitioners should use pure righteous thoughts to stop the persecution. Practitioners should not accept nor cooperate with the persecution.]

1. Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang City Uses Slave Labor to Assemble Christmas Lights for Export to the U.S.

By a practitioner in Hubei Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang City, Hubei Province, forces the prisoners to work long hours under slave labor conditions, assembling products for export. This prison has many contracts with companies in the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian. It has been learned that many products manufactured in Fanjiatai Prison are regularly destined for export to western countries.

An example of these kinds of export products are strings of colored Christmas lights. There are several styles and colors of the Christmas light products, normally used for decorating a Christmas tree, a window or the exterior of a house. Each string of lights may be installed with 150, 200 or 300 tiny, colored bulbs. A string of fifty 2.5-volt bulbs, for example, is designed to require a 110-volt electrical outlet, which is the same voltage used in the U.S.

Some of the products assembled at Fanjiatai Prison are also transported to Zhejiang Province, where they are assembled for bulk shipment to Taiwan, because these products are to be exported to the U.S. by Taiwanese businesses only. The Christmas lights assembled at Fanjiatai Prison are among the most popular type purchased in the U.S. Falun Dafa practitioners formerly held in this prison have some samples of these tiny lights in their possession, as proof of their allegations. [Note: it is against U.S. law to import any product, of which any part was manufactured or assembled using penal or forced labor.]

2. Slave Labor and Disguised Extortion in Detention Centers in Wubei, Hubei Province

By a Hubei Dafa practitioner

(Clearwisdom.net) Detention center guards in Wuhan, Hubei Province force detainees to do slave labor in their prison cells. For example, in Xiangfan City No. 1 Detention Center, they force the detainees in their cells to produce medicine boxes, and to assemble elementary and preschool textbooks. The criminals, including drug addicts, robbers, murderers, ruffians, and people who have committed all sorts of crimes and are of low moral character, do unbelievable things during this process. For instance, when they produce the medicine boxes and fit the books together, these criminals purposely wipe filthy things onto the products, such as excretions from rotting wounds on their feet, blood, pus, and other filth. The detention center officials do not bother to do anything about this.

The detention center enforcers also collect tainted money. Not only do the slave laborers not get a single cent; but on top of that, some detainees are forced to pay 20 Yuan in "accommodation and meals fees" for each day they are locked up. Family members are not permitted to help the detainees with daily necessities such as a washbasin, toilet paper, or slippers (once they enter the detention center they have to throw away their shoes and bare their feet). Family members must send money, the only thing the detention centers will accept! The detention center controls the money - the detainee only gets a piece of paper as proof of such-and-such a cash balance "deposited" with the detention centers. The daily necessities are bought and sold at the detention centers' stores at a price set by the detention centers. They buy the poorest quality goods for the detainees, yet deduct cash that is two to three times the original cost. For example, for a bar of soap and a pack of toilet paper, the cost is less than 1 Yuan, but they deduct 2.5 Yuan. A box of instant noodles costing 10 Yuan is sold for 40 Yuan. It costs the detainee 100 Yuan for the prison doctor to ask, "Are you sick or not?" without the detainee actually undergoing any kind of examination. Disinfecting of the prison cells is carried out in the summer. Each cell is charged 10 Yuan for one disinfecting. The detention center officials deduct at will from the detainees' cash balances and then reduce the cash balance in the bookkeeping records. This is obviously a disguised form of extortion.

The policemen in the detention centers verbally and physically abuse Dafa practitioners. It is also common practice for the common criminals to verbally and physically abuse the practitioners. Many Dafa practitioners suffer severe persecution and inhuman torture. For example, they are punished by being forced to stand against the corner of the wall, being heavily fist-punched in the heart by criminals, being slapped, being forced to maintain a half-squatting position (squatting down with legs apart and both arms raised forward, parallel to the ground), and having cold water poured on them during winter time. If Dafa practitioners do the Falun Gong exercises, they are handcuffed and shackled. Additionally, Xiangfan No. 1 Detention center has a homemade kind of handcuff. This handcuff is a most cruel torture device made with steel bolts. Once put on, these handcuffs can cause the person to faint after a time. The lawless guards also force-feed Dafa practitioners who hold hunger strikes to protest the persecution. This place is indeed hell in the human world.

3. Falun Gong Practitioners Jailed in Changsha City, Hunan Province, Forced to Do Slave Labor

By a Falun Dafa Practitioner in China

(Clearwisdom.net) According to Falun Gong practitioners released from Changsha Prison in Hunan Province, they were forced to perform slave labor for 13-14 hours every day. Being forced to work until 11:00 p.m., or until sunrise the next day, was not uncommon. In one detention center there was an accident after a criminal inmate was forced to work for five days and nights, under threat of the electric baton. Four fingers on his left hand were crushed by an iron gate. When Falun Gong practitioners requested the right to observe an 8-hour work day and have Sunday off, they were thrown into solitary confinement for up to 90 days. Many practitioners have been subjected to this treatment.

Recently the Changsha Prison was contracted to produce electronic products. The products were ordered by a Xinglong Electronic Factory in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, for a company named "Taida" in Taiwan, which is a supplier for Sony.

We want to appeal to the international community, and overseas companies and enterprises to pay attention to the violations of human rights and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. We offer this special warning to Sony and Taida: many of your products manufactured in China were made using forced labor with no human rights protections, and your investments may have been used by the Jiang regime to persecute Falun Gong. This is not something a person of conscience would like to see. Please do not supply capital to the regime. Let us expose the persecution and safeguard human rights.

Twelve practitioners are being jailed in Changsha Prison as of June 1. Initially, all Falun Gong practitioners were jailed in this prison. However, the practitioners continued to practice in prison and resisted the persecution. Many of them were called "diehards," and were thrown into solitary confinement, where some of them held hunger strikes for as long as 10 days to protest the ill treatment. In April 2003, the practitioners were transferred to the Changde Jinshi Farm.

4. Items Produced by Slave Labor in Chinese Labor Camps Appear on Renowned Italian Brand-Name Website (Photos)

By Li Ying in Australia

(Clearwisdom.net) (Note: LiYing, the author of this article, was imprisoned in the Shanghai Women's Forced Labor Camp from December 2001 to October 2003 because she practices Falun Gong. In late November 2003, she was released from the labor camp and went to Australia. This was made possible with help from Falun Gong practitioners in Australia, the Australian government and other kind-hearted Australian people.)

When anyone looks at these pictures, it is unlikely that they would associate the young girls pictured, dolls in their hands, with Chinese forced labor camps. All of these pictures were downloaded from www.mydoll.it/ . Dolls exactly like this were made in Division Three of the Shanghai Women's Forced Labor Camp between June 2002 and May 2003. Some were packaged and shipped directly to Italy, and others were sent to other locations for further processing or assembly.

The dolls, in three sizes, arrived at the labor camp in large sacks. The largest size, as seen in the first picture, came 100 dolls per sack. The smallest size came 500 dolls per sack. The dolls were laid out on the ground after they arrived. Some were moldy from the summer heat. Prisoners put clothes on them, so the buyers could not see how filthy the dolls really were underneath.

There were time deadlines for the products that were about to be exported. Labor camp detainees, including illegally held Falun Gong practitioners, were forced to work from at least 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Most people worked until around 11:00 p.m. since the daily work quota was impossible for them to finish in 10 hours.

Picture 1

Dolls like the one in the hands of the girl on the right were packaged in Group One of Division Three. The detainees were forced to work until past midnight in order to finish by the deadline.

The process of packaging was as follows: we put a T-shirt and pants on the doll, put a belt on a coat, put the coat on the doll, put a headband on the doll and put shoes on the doll's feet. We cut off thread ends from inside to outside, combed the hair, put the fully clothed doll in a white cloth sack, put a drying agent under the doll's buttocks, then wrapped it in a transparent plastic bag, folded the paper box and put the fully packaged doll in the paper box. Each person was assigned 120 dolls a day.

Picture 2

The doll on the left wears overalls. The flower pattern on the bottom end of the right pant leg is completely handmade. First, we put the agglutinated lining on the back of three pieces of cloth altogether, and used an electric iron to iron the cloth onto a yellow base cloth, and then used a pencil to draw the two antenna of the snail, and used three different color threads, sewing the three pieces of cloth to the yellow base cloth according to the requirements. The stitch was no longer than 0.5 centimeter, and the distance between two stitches was around 0.5 centimeters; the stitches had to be symmetrical and the stitch-lengths had to be the same. The antenna was embroidered with a coffee-colored piece of thread clipped to a pin. The bottom end of the left pant leg also followed the same requirements. It had to be in the shape of a curve and could not look rigid. We also embroidered a line around the collar of the overalls with 0.5 centimeters between stitches. The doll on the right had its collar embroidered on the same way.

Picture 3

Who would imagine that not only are the dolls in the hands of these cute young girls products of slave labor, but so are the hats and pants the girls are wearing.

In Picture 1, the flower on the right pant-leg of the girl on the left was embroidered by hand, stitch by stitch. The requirement was that the thread had to be invisible; the edges could not be rough; the flower could not be oblique and had to be smooth. The labor camp was only responsible for embroidering the flower; the pants themselves were manufactured elsewhere.

The hats worn by both girls and the flowers on them were also made at the labor camp. A circular line was embroidered onto the hat, and the line could not get inside of the hat lining.

The little house with a chimney pictured on the carpeting was also partially made in the labor camp and consisted of seven pieces of cloth. Every piece of cloth was embroidered to the bottom cloth according to their sequence.

The flower and little house on the dresses worn by the girls were also embroidered at the labor camp.

The packaging process of the dolls the girls are holding was as follows: first we put the pants on the doll, making sure the tag was in back. We put a dress, an apron and shoes on the doll. We cut off the thread and combed the ponytails. We put the hat on the doll and put it in a white cloth sack, put a drying agent under the doll's buttocks, then wrapped it in a transparent plastic bag, folded the paper box and put the fully packaged doll in the paper box. Each person was assigned to package 120 dolls a day.

Picture 4

The strawberry bag in front of the girl's feet was made at the labor camp. Both sides of the bag were embroidered with lines. After completion, it was diamond-shaped with a three-dimensional feel to it. The lines could not curve and the stitches had to be even and smooth.

Picture 5

The pants and the flower pattern on the right pant-leg of the toy bear sitting on the chair were also partially made in the labor camp.

Picture 6

The sunflower on the dress of the doll on the rear left was embroidered on. A line was sewn onto the bottom of the apron and the collar. It was required that the stitches be even and that no more than a 0.5-centimeter gap existed between stitches. The connecting stitches and threads should be invisible. The head flower was also made in the labor camp.

The packaging process was as follows: we put the pants on the doll. We positioned the pants so the doll's legs were not exposed; we put shoes with white socks on the doll's feet, we folded the socks twice down and put the dress on the doll, affixed the head flower on the doll and wrapped it around its head two times. We cut the threads and combed the hair. We put the hat on the doll and put it in a white cloth sack, put drying agent under the doll's buttocks, then wrapped it in a transparent plastic bag, folded the paper box and put the fully packaged doll in the paper box. Each person was assigned to package 120 dolls a day.

The rubber band used to fix the head flower onto the doll's head was very tight and we had to wrap it around twice. After one day's work, our thumbs and index fingers were red and swollen. Nevertheless, we had to continue our work the next day, until the skin on our fingers broke open and bled.

Picture 7

The flower patterns on the doll dresses in this picture were all embroidered at the labor camp. One line was embroidered smoothly on the collar and the bottom of the apron, with a space of 0.5 centimeters between stitches. The packaging process and amount of work is the same as in picture 6.

Picture 8

Picture 9

The butterflies and their wake [the trail by which the butterfly flew] on the dolls' clothes were done at the labor camp. It was required that the line along which the butterflies were stapled be invisible and the butterflies' traces must be even and smooth, with no rigid corner or lines.

Picture 10

The packaging process for this doll was the same as the doll in picture one.

The photos published on this website only show some of the products we were forced to make at the labor camp. We were also assigned to work on the single-packed clothing, backpacks, and other accessories that went along with the dolls.

Facts of the Persecution

Dafa Practitioner Ms. Zhang Hong Dies from the Persecution in Harbin City Wanjia Forced Labor Camp -- Family Members Appeal for an Investigation

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 31, 2004, Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Hong from the Dongli District of Harbin City was persecuted to death by Harbin's Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province. The labor camp authorities demanded that Ms. Zhang's family cremate her body as soon as possible, but this demand was firmly refused. Ms. Zhang's family is now turning to the legal process with an appeal to investigate her death.

Ms. Zhang had been illegally sent to forced labor once before. On July 22, 2004, she was sent to forced labor again at Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, and by July 31, she was persecuted to death. When her family members saw her body, her eyes and mouth were wide open, she had lost almost 30-40 lbs, and there were feces in her pants. The group directly responsible for Ms. Zhang's untimely death is Wanjia Forced Labor Camp.

On August 5, in order to deceive the public, the police replaced the plaque reading, "Camp Intensive Training Class" (in fact, it's a "torture chamber") where Ms. Zhang was detained with a sign saying "Clinic," and decorated the room with oxygen bottles and some other medical apparatus. Even the police at the Intensive Training Division looked quite uneasy, because they were afraid that others would find out the truth of what really takes place in that room.

Since Ms. Zhang Hong was sent to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, she has been detained in the "Intensive Training Division" (Division No. 13). The responsible policemen there include four male section heads: Wu Hongxun, Zhao Yuqing, Yao Fuchang and Li Xiaojie. The prisoners who have been ordered by the police to participate in the persecution of Ms. Zhang include: Zhang Guiyun, Chen Lingling, Sun Huijun, and others.

Dafa Practitioner Ms. Wei Yaxia from Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province Dies as a Result of Persecution

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Ms. Wei Yaxia from Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province endured much persecution for her persistence in practicing Falun Gong. She was brutally tortured in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. After being released from the labor camp, she still encountered harassment and abduction by the police. Ms. Wei was then forced to leave her home to avoid further persecution. Although she died in April of 2004, the cause of her death is yet to be determined.

Ms. Wei Yaxia was born in 1953 and was an employee of the Wuchang City Traffic Control Center in Heilongjiang Province. Before she practiced Falun Gong, she had many chronic diseases. Since she started to practice Falun Gong in 1996, she came to understand the meaning of her life, raised her moral standard, and thus benefited both physically and mentally.

Ms. Wei went to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Gong, once on June 15, 2000 and again on November 14, 2000. She was illegally detained both times. The second time she was detained, she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was released on December 30, 2000. However, 10 days later, on January 9, Ms. Wei was arrested again with no legal procedures and was sentenced to one year in the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp.

In Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Wei was brutally tortured for persisting in practicing Falun Gong. The police deprived her of sleep, force-fed her, and forced her to stand or squat in a fixed position for long periods of time. She was put on the "Tiger Bench" (1) twice, each time for a day and night, with handcuffs cutting into the flesh of her wrists. She was confined in a small solitary compartment many times for many days. In July 2001, Ms. Wei was tortured with the "Big Hang Up" (2) method for a long time. Every day she was only put down for a short while after the inmates came back from their work. Then before everyone else went to work, she was hung up again. Sometimes she was hung in a men's cell. When Ms. Wei's son called in to inquire about her situation, the police told him that Ms. Wei was in the men's cell at the time. Once Ms. Wei vomited a lot as a result of being hung up too long, and the inmate who was ordered to guard her reported her situation to the guards. The guards then asked her if she would still practice Falun Gong. Ms. Wei answered, "Yes," so they gave orders for her to remain hanging.

Later, Ms. Wei had scabies all over her body and suffered greatly from the severe itching. The labor camp used a tactic called "Scratching the Itch," which made people bleed all over and was very painful. Ms. Wei did not relent under such a huge tribulation, but instead was able to see through the tactics of the police. Before she was released, the guards wanted to take pictures of her and other Dafa practitioners who had scabies, and they claimed that they would only release those whose pictures were taken. Ms. Wei firmly refused to have the pictures taken and was the first one to be released ahead of term, without any conditions. She walked out of Wanjia Forced Labor Camp with dignity.

Upon returning home, the officials from her work unit kept applying great pressure on her. The police department and officials from the "610 Office" often went to her home to harass her. In April 2002, Wuchang City Police and the "610 Office" together started another round of arrest of Dafa practitioners. Ms. Wei was dismissed from her job by her work unit. There were policemen and police vehicles stationed around her home. In addition, they viciously applied pressure on her family members and threatened to fire her husband and to make her son unable to work normally. It caused great psychological burdens on Ms. Wei and her family. Ms. Wei had to leave home and go from one place to another to avoid persecution. She hid in an empty house of a relative. According to the neighbors, on the evening of April 25 they heard someone knocking on the door of the room where Ms. Wei was hiding. On the morning of April 26, Ms. Wei was found dead outside of the building. The details of her death are still unknown.

However, the vicious persecution against Ms. Wei did not even end with her death. The authorities kept making up rumors saying that Ms. Wei went insane because of practicing Falun Gong and committed suicide. They tried to use this to frame and slander Falun Gong and to deceive people. Ms. Wei never had thoughts of suicide, even under so many brutal tortures and difficult situations. How could she just fall out of the building? What actually happened is still unknown, but one thing is certain: this is another crime that the Jiang regime has committed in its persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners.

Notes

(1) "Tiger Bench" -- A torture method commonly used on Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall, with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead. They are not allowed to turn their heads, close their eyes, talk to anyone or move at all. Several inmates are assigned to watch over the practitioners and force them to remain motionless while sitting on the bench. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the practitioners' lower legs or ankles to make it harder for them to tolerate this abuse (see illustration on http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html)

(2) "Big Hang Up" -- A torture method commonly used on Falun Gong practitioners. There are two forms of this torture: (a) With both hands shackled behind the back and only toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to metal window frames; (b) One hand of a practitioner is handcuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in the opposite directions. One feels extreme pain as the body is stretched.

Huludao Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province: Shocking Detainees' Genitals with Electric Batons, Prison Police Enjoy Watching Detainees Being Tortured (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net)

Home of Notorious Torture Chamber; Number One Goon Hailed as "Model of the Province"

In 2003, Huludao Forced Labor Camp police officers beat to death a forced labor camp prisoner named Zhang Bin. Some of the parties were held accountable and subsequently sued in court. Later the same year, the former director of Huludao Forced Labor Camp and deputy director of Huludao Judiciary Bureau, Wang Chunyuan, and deputy director of Huludao Forced Labor Camp, Yao Chuang (in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners), were dismissed from their posts. The Chinese media exposed this "Zhang Bin incident," shocking the entire nation.

Several Falun Gong Practitioners were tortured to death in Huludao Forced Labor Camp, Huludao City

Media exposure of the incident, in which Huludao Forced Labor Camp (1) police beat a regular forced labor prisoner to death, resulted in the dismissal of some of the responsible personnel, but the violent beating and torturing to death of Falun Gong practitioners have earned awards for their perpetrators. According to known data, at least four hundred Falun Gong practitioners have endured inhumane torture at this labor camp within the last few years, and at least two Falun Gong practitioners, Wu Guoliang and Chen Dewen, were tortured to death. Nevertheless, government officials have gone to great lengths to hide the following facts: The labor camp holds a secret court to rationalize the torture of Falun Gong practitioners. Anti-riot police are called in to brutally abuse practitioners. Sadistically deviant guards regularly dispense many forms of police brutality, including taking unabashed pleasure in the assault of practitioners' genitals with electric batons (2).

The most notorious thug in the labor camp for torturing Falun Gong practitioners is platoon leader Liu Guohua (3), who was never penalized for the crimes he has committed. On the contrary, he was recognized as a "model worker of the province."

In May 2004, five Falun Gong practitioners, Yao Yanhui, Zhang Jihong, You Yuehong, Huang Lizhong and Hu Baochun held a hunger strike to protest the police brutality. Some of them had been on a hunger strike for longer than one hundred consecutive days. Among them, Yao Yanhui and Huang Lizhong have endured many episodes where their lives were in dire danger .

Bloody Brutalities in the Secret Torture Chamber

On January 6, 7 and 8, 2003, in order to forcibly brainwash Falun Gong practitioners, Huludao Forced Labor Camp implemented a torture plan that lasted three days and three nights.

Beginning on January 6, all steadfast Falun Gong practitioners were taken to a special torture room, where the prison police stripped the practitioners down to their underwear and then tightly sealed their mouths with wide strips of cloth. Torture methods included: punching and kicking; shocking with electric batons; hanging practitioners up off the ground (4); whipping with plastic tubes and phone lines (three rounds); striking with barbed sticks; "tiger bench," and more. In one particular instance, they used more than ten electric batons to simultaneously shock a practitioner. Every part of the body was shocked and ravaged, including the genital area, burning practitioners' skin and muscle tissue. The whole torture room was filled with the stench of burning flesh. In addition, Falun Gong practitioners were also force-fed unidentified, flake-shaped pills.

Liu Wangli's entire face was severely burned and covered with huge blisters.

Wang Zhongtao endured electric shocks from six electric batons at once. His genital area had also been shocked and was swollen, and his right ear was split open.

Liang Guoman endured electric shocks from seven or eight electric batons simultaneously. His neck and face were badly disfigured from the burning and injuries.

Pei Zhonghua was brutally tortured twice. He endured being shocked by a dozen electric batons at once, and on each of two separate occasions, was force-fed seven unidentified pills.

Deng Wenxing endured electric shocks from four or five electric batons at the same time. During a span of two days, he was tortured for twenty-six hours, during which time he suffered from various forms of torture. His neck and face were badly burned with blisters, and swelled up from the abuse.

Zhang Ligou was so brutally tortured that his heartbeat became irregular. His blood pressure rose to 180/250.

Wang Haiqing endured electric shock from eight electric batons simultaneously to the head, under the arms, on the back and soles of the feet.

Practitioner Li Guanghai is a graduate student in his thirties who was working at the Zinc Plant in Huludao City. He was tortured to the brink of death before being sent to a hospital for emergency treatment. According to the hospital, Li's condition was extremely critical. Both his arms were black and blue from bruising, and he could not eat anything because of the wounds due to torture. However, he was only hospitalized for ten days or so before officials from the forced labor camp came to retrieve him.

Deviant Policemen Enjoy Watching Practitioners' Genitals Being Shocked with Electron Batons

Electric batons are the most frequently used torture instruments. In order to force practitioners to give up their belief, and driven by their deviant mentality, some policemen found amusement in torturing detainees or watching detainees being tortured and suffering. Sometimes they used six to seven electric batons simultaneously on one practitioner. After they were done shocking the front side of a practitioner's body, they turned the body over and shocked the back of the body. Even women in their sixties and one eighteen-year-old unmarried girl were not spared.

An electric baton burns a blister or a black spot on the human body even when it just slightly touches the skin. Under the influence of an electric current, human muscles twitch and limbs jerk uncontrollably. Even after the electric current stops, the muscles still keep cramping for a long time. The entire room where the torture is dispensed and adjoining corridor fill with the stench of burning flesh. For one who has never been shocked by an electric baton, the pain is unimaginable.

Sadistic policemen employed various instruments of torture especially to sensitive parts of the body such as the arch of the foot, the armpit, and even to a male practitioner's penis and anus or to a female practitioner's vagina. This was a frequently used torture at Huludao Forced Labor Camp.

In June 2000, Mr. Zhao Lianxin, a Falun Gong practitioner in his thirties and a business owner in Gangtun Town, Lianshan District, Huludao City, was thrown into a strictly controlled chamber because he persisted in practicing Falun Gong. Liu Guohua led Wang Shengli, Zhang Fusheng and ten other policemen in forcing Mr. Zhao and other steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners to watch anti-Dafa propaganda videos. The practitioners resolutely refused to watch, so the police conducted inhumane torture on each of them, one by one.

Mr. Zhao was the first to be dragged out of the chamber. Four or five policemen stood on him to keep him from moving, then began slapping his face with the hard sole of a leather boot. Liu Guohua and other policemen then used electric batons to shock Mr. Zhao on his back. After a while, Mr. Zhao's shirt was soaked in blood. The police removed his pants and shocked his genitals with the electric batons. Then they forced the electric baton into his rectum. He was tortured to the point of teetering between life and death. The police poured water over him and continued to shock him. His head was covered in bruises and his eye sockets were swollen to the point that not even a thin slit could be seen. He became so horribly disfigured that even people who knew him well could not recognize him.

Six Falun Gong practitioners, including Mr. Zhao, were all tortured to an extreme degree. After the torture, they were handcuffed together and had to sleep on the cement floor. The next day, led by Liu Guohua, several policemen punched and kicked the practitioners one by one. They grabbed their hair and slammed their heads against the ground. Then they shocked the practitioners again with electric batons. This torture lasted for four days.

Mobilizing Anti-Riot Police to Subject Falun Gong Practitioners to Brutal Torture; Number One Goon Becomes "Model of the Province"

On November 29, 2001, twenty-five practitioners detained on the first floor of the forced labor camp went on a hunger strike to demand their unconditional release. That morning, Liu Guowen read aloud a fabricated article, claiming it was from Teacher Li. Practitioner Tian Zhanliang emphatically denied it. That same afternoon, Team Leader Liu Jiawen called Tian Zhanling out and beat him with electric batons for several hours. Tian could not move for a long time, and his ribs were broken. His injuries were so serious that he had to ask someone to hold his ribs whenever he needed to cough. Another practitioner, Cong Guozhi, was also taken out for a "talk." Worried that Cong Guozhi would also be beaten, the other practitioners strongly demanded that they release Mr. Cong.

The labor camp reported this to the City Committee. The president of the Political and Judiciary Committee, Zhou Fenming, personally took charge of the police officers who, the following night, abducted eight practitioners from their beds from the west side of the Hao Building. Most of the practitioners were not wearing shoes or a coat. Three practitioners from the east side of the Hao Building were also taken away by force.

The director of the labor camp took charge, and in the presence of all of the policemen, they used thirty high-voltage electric batons to torture a group of Falun Gong practitioners.

Practitioner Li Guanghai was shocked so severely that his face was beyond recognition. He could not eat solid food, only liquids through a straw. He was unable to stand but had to lie on a bed for over twenty days. Practitioner Wang Hongting was beaten with a leather belt for over forty minutes. The room was full of the smell of burnt flesh from the electric batons when he was carried out of the door. The unbearable stench filled the corridor as well. He was force-fed the next day, and one of his teeth was broken off and pulled out by the root. Practitioner Wang Yueqi, over 50 years old, was stripped naked, and because his back had been severely injured, he had to sleep face down. Practitioner Qian Peng was beaten three times with electric batons and shocked twice when water was splashed on his body.

Other Practitioners Received Different Degrees of Beating

During this round of persecution, all of the local policemen made an appearance. The known names of the ones who tortured the practitioners are: Liu Guohua; Wang Shengli, Zhang Fusheng, Song and Guo from the Discipline Department; Li Jian and Song Dadui from the 1st Platoon; Yang, the head of 2nd Platoon in the General Education Department, Wang Zhuzhen and Zhang Guozhu; Yang, the head of the Grocery Department, and Cui Xiaodong. There were over twenty policemen involved.

Liu Guohua, a platoon leader who is specifically in charge of torturing Falun Gong practitioners at Huludao Forced Labor Camp, is responsible for the death of two Falun Gong practitioners as a result of the cruel tortures. Nevertheless, he was evaluated as the "model of the province" and has been praised and awarded for his work many times.

Two Falun Gong Practitioners Tortured to Death

Mr. Wu Guoliang was a teacher at Gangtun Town Junior High School in Huludao City. In 1998, flooding occurred in Southern China and caused a lot of losses for government and local residents alike. Mr. Wu and his wife Du Li donated 5,000 yuan (5) to the people in the disaster zone.

On October 31, 1999, Wu Guoliang was sent to Huludao Forced Labor Camp for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. He was extremely weak after being abused by many different forms of torture. His health was in critical condition by the time the labor camp finally sent him to a hospital in December. The hospital examination showed an untreatable case of advanced tuberculosis. To avoid taking responsibility, the labor camp released Mr. Wu on medical parole. Wu Guoliang died only ten days after his family members took him home. He was thirty-five years old. His wife Du Li was detained in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, and her current condition is unknown.

Mr. Chen Dewen was from Chen Village, in Gejia Township, Suizhong County, Liaoning Province. On March 1, 2001, Liu Guohua, the platoon leader who is specifically responsible for torturing Falun Gong practitioners in Huludao Forced Labor Camp, policeman Wang Shengli, staff members Zhang and Guo, and others tied the hands and feet of four Falun Gong practitioners, including Chen Dewen, to the bed and force-fed them with salt water. The prison doctor, Wang Dashu, had added one kilogram of salt to the water. Ten days later, Chen Dewen was carried to a hospital. Afterwards, the prison doctor lied, claiming that Chen Dewen had died from cardiac arrest.

Chen Dewen was tortured to death in Huludao Forced Labor Camp

Wife Died in Masanjia; Husband Tortured in Huludao Forced Labor Camp

Hu Baochun, age 48, is a resident of the Yangjiazhangzi Economic Development District in Huludao City. On December 6, 2001, his wife Liu Li was sentenced to a four-year term for persisting in practicing Falun Gong and clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. She was sent to the Liaoning Province Women's Prison, where she died on July 23, 2003. Against her family's wishes, the prison officials cremated her body. Hu Baochun never got to see his wife's body. According to inside information, the prison policemen had beaten Liu Li to death.

Hu Baochun has served three different terms in forced labor camps and is still currently detained at Huludao Forced Labor Camp, where he is cruelly tortured. He became very weak after holding a hunger strike in a detention center. Prison policemen Wei Guozhong and Liu Junke together with the prison doctor, Chen, repeatedly slapped his face, put him on a "Tiger Bench" and tied his hands behind his back, and ordered death row inmates to torture him. One death row inmate squeezed Hu Baochun's testicles, causing him excruciating pain. The prison policemen handcuffed Hu Baochun to a metal chair in order to force-feed him. They tied his hands and feet with steel wires. They pried open his mouth with a pair of pliers and poked them in his mouth, severely injuring his mouth and throat.

Unable to cope with one stress after another, Mr. Hu's sixty-eight-year-old mother suddenly showed symptoms of stroke, high blood pressure, atrophied cerebellum and partial paralysis. Consequently, she became disoriented and could no longer take care of her own personal needs. She lives on her meager pension, and she and Hu Baochun's twenty-year-old son are financially dependent on each other.

Good Deeds and Evil Deeds are Rewarded Accordingly

Wang Shengli, formerly the chief of the Discipline Department at Huludao Forced Labor Camp, used electric batons to shock and beat Falun Gong practitioners numerous times. He was later transferred to serve as instructor to the platoon in charge of handling Falun Gong practitioners. He subsequently contracted severe hepatitis and was hospitalized for surgery.

Zhang Fusheng, formerly a policeman from the Discipline Department at Huludao Forced Labor Camp, also known as "the meanest person in the labor camp," was promoted to deputy chief of the Discipline Department for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. In 2003, he was terminated from his government job as a policeman after he was caught accepting bribes.

Guo Aiming, a policeman from the Discipline Department at Huludao Forced Labor Camp, shocked Falun Gong practitioners with electric batons numerous times. According to insiders, his nine-year-old son required surgery for a serious illness.

Wu Shushan, the deputy secretary of the Political Committee in the labor camp, connived with his subordinates in torturing Falun Gong practitioners. He became bedridden after suffering a stroke around the end of 2000, and since then, has been unable to work.

Xu Guoliang is a squadron chief in the 2nd Platoon at Huludao Forced Labor Camp. In early 2003 he assaulted Falun Gong practitioners. A few days later, a metal shard from an explosion cut into an artery on his neck when he was at work. Doctors from both Huludao and Shenyang Hospitals were unable to treat his condition. Later, when he went to Beijing for treatment, the blood clots had almost reached his chest, where they would have caused his death. Ever since then, Xu Guoliang has stopped assaulting practitioners and started treating everyone better.

Teenage Girl from Shandong Province Suffers Mental Collapse from Torture in Xin'an Forced Labor Camp, Beijing

(Clearwisdom.net) Eighteen-year-old girls are supposed to be carefree and full of beautiful dreams for their future, but Ms. Guo Xuelian, a Falun Gong practitioner who refused to give up her belief, suffered a mental collapse as a result of the brutal torture and abuse by police officers following the orders of Jiang's regime.

Ms. Guo was born in 1982 in Guojiashangtong Village, Zhanglin Township, Changyi City, Weifang, Shandong Province. From her early childhood, she had been a bright and innocent girl who was highly praised at school for her academic achievements. Witnessing the great changes in her parents and in an acquaintance after they began practicing Falun Gong, she too joined the practice and experienced many positive changes.

After the Jiang faction launched the persecution campaign against Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Xuelian's heart was deeply hurt and she innocently believed that the tragedy was due to the Party's misunderstanding of Falun Gong. With a sincere heart, the 18-year-old Xuelian went to Beijing to appeal to the government for Falun Gong and for the good name of the founder of Falun Gong in May of 2000. The police arrested her and sent her back to her local area for detention. They extorted 6,000 yuan from her family over the course of her imprisonment (Note: the average monthly income of a Chinese worker is about 500 yuan).

During the national holiday in October of 2000, Xuelian went to Beijing to appeal once again, when Beijing Falun Dafa practitioner Zhao Xin was dying from the police's brutal persecution. Together with her fellow practitioners, Xuelian helped take care of Zhao Xin for weeks. After Zhao died on December 11, 2000, Xuelian started to publicly distribute flyers and to clarify the truth of Dafa and the persecution on the street. A few days later, police officers arrested her and brutally tortured her. The authorities issued an order to imprison her in the Xin'an Female Forced Labor Camp of Daxing County in Beijing.

In the labor camp, the police again brutally tortured her. One day, the authorities forced her and her fellow practitioners to watch TV programs that slandered Falun Dafa. Refusing to cooperate, she stood up and shouted "Falun Dafa is Good!" The police officers rushed to her and knocked her down with great force. Some straddled her body, while others twisted her arms and beat her. Then officer Zhao Lei, together with another officer surnamed Bai, used four electric batons to shock her simultaneously. The electric shock made her bleed from two areas of her head, which later festered and did not recover until two years later.

We have learned that the police injected her with an unknown drug and added some unknown drugs to her meals. In as little as a few months, Xuelian suffered a mental collapse under the violent torture and forced drug abuse.

On May 1, 2001, the authorities in the Xin'an Labor Camp told Xuelian's family to take her home. After rushing to the labor camp in Beijing from Shandong Province, her father was stunned to find that his once bright and healthy daughter had become a completely different person. Without any facial expression or eye movement, she stared blankly and didn't speak at all. Her ankles were terribly swollen (perhaps due to shackles), and on the top of her head were two finger-sized areas that had no hair and were covered with blood stains. Her father simply couldn't believe his eyes. His once lovely daughter was now turned into a stranger. With great sorrow, he questioned an officer surnamed Shi. "Where did the wounds on my daughter's head come from?" Shi lied to him, saying that it was because of a sore.

On the way home from Beijing, Xuelian didn't talk (most likely because the authorities in the Xin'an Labor Camp had injected her with a tranquilizer). As soon as she returned home and finished her meal, however, she started to shout and strip her clothes off. Seeing how the persecution had turned their innocent daughter into such a state, simply because of her appeal for Falun Gong, Xuelian's parents were deeply grieved and couldn't help sobbing, as was the case with their equally sorrowful fellow villagers.

Three years after she returned home from the forced labor camp, this girl whom the authorities in the labor camp devastated, remains in the same state. She often runs around for no reason. Her speech is still incomprehensible. She often strips off her clothes and bullies or curses others, including her own parents. In tears over these difficult circumstances, her parents have been tending to her with great sorrow these past three years. Their fellow villagers grieve for her as well.

This incident of how the innocent teenaged Xuelian was treated demonstrates the cruelty and inhumanity of Jiang's regime in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. All kind-hearted people, please speak up for justice and reach out to help stop this evil persecution against good people and to prevent innocent children from suffering these violent abuses!

Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Fan Guohua Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison in Acheng City, Heilongjiang Province

(Clearwisdom.net) On April 30, 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fan Guohua in Acheng City, Heilongjiang Province was sentenced to a 7-year term of imprisonment. On May 15, she was sent to Harbin Women's Prison. Her current situation is unknown.

Fan Guohua went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and returned home safely. She has never stopped clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa and the persecution, often going out until late at night to distribute truth-clarifying materials. She sent materials to the "110" command center (a public security information center that is similar to the "911" system in U.S.) and the dormitories of policemen. She has scrimped and saved in order to have enough money to take a taxi to remote rural areas to deliver the truth-clarifying materials, banners and posters in towns and villages. During these years, even though she was persecuted several times, Fan Guohua still persisted in practicing Falun Dafa.

On the evening of December 5, 2000, five policemen from the Acheng Minzhu Police Station entered her home by force and asked her whether she would continue to practice Falun Gong or not. Ms. Fan said, "It is such a good thing, why must I give it up? What I learned is that it is a good qigong practice which can help people to be good persons and become healthier." Then, she told them about the advantages of practicing Falun Dafa, the truth of the staged Tiananmen self-immolation incident, the truth of Falun Gong practitioners' appeal on April 25th in Beijing, and how the media in Mainland China deceives people. However, the police refused to listen and arrested her by force. She was sent to a detention center the next day. During this period, the police threatened Ms. Fan's family members and extorted money from them. They said, "If you do not give us the money, we will not release her." Her family members had to pay 2,000 yuan (1) to the police, but Guohua was not released until December 28.

At 9 p.m. on the evening of November 26, 2001, the police of Acheng City came to Fan Guohua's home to arrest her again. Four policemen led by Song Lin arrested Ms. Fan by force and also took away some Dafa literature after searching her home.

That evening, the police tortured Ms. Fan by forcing her to sit on a steel chair with her hands and feet bound to the chair. She was tortured by this method until the next morning. Then, she was persecuted in the detention center again.

One day, the police forced several common prisoners to sit in a row to listen to the radio. The police also wanted Fan Guohua to sit there. She said, "I am not a prisoner. I do not want to sit with prisoners." The police told five or six inmates to beat her. One of the policemen said, "Handcuff her to the heater and hang her up! We will see whether she obeys our orders or not!" Guohua refused to submit to the orders of the policemen with her righteous thoughts. As a result, all attempts by the police to handcuff her to the heater failed, and they finally left her alone.

While in the detention center, Guohua still insisted on studying the teachings of Falun Dafa, practicing the exercises and sending righteous thoughts in such a vicious environment. She thought that this was no place for her to stay and that she must go back home. On December 12 2001, Fan Guohua was released unconditionally.

On December 6, 2002, when Guohua went to a remote area in Heironggong Village, Shangzhi City to distribute truth-clarifying materials, she was arrested by the local police and detained in Shangzhi. The police did not inform her family members until January 29, 2003.

On April 30, 2003, a Judicial Court session was held, and Ms. Fan was sentenced to a 7-year term of imprisonment. On May 14, she was allowed to see her family members only after 300 yuan was extorted from them. On May 15, Fan Guohua was sent to Harbin Women's Prison.

The local authorities prohibited her family members from visiting her in prison after several requests. The police in that prison are very vicious. We are not sure whether Guohua is alive or dead.

Wang Quanlian Sentenced to Three Years in Prison After Being Severely Tortured at the No. 2 Detention Center in Chenzhou City

(Clearwisdom.net) Thirty-two-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Quanlian suffered cruel torture at the No. 2 Detention Center of Chenzhou City in Hunan Province, before losing consciousness. His entire body was covered with bruises and he was emaciated, just skin and bones.

Ms. Wang was sent to the emergency room of the No. 4 People's Hospital of Chenzhou City. After emergency treatment, he regained consciousness. The medical certificate issued by the doctors indicated that Mr. Wang had the following conditions (see Fig. 1 for his medical record): 1) acute gastroenteritis, 2) acute hemorrhagic gastritis (medium to severe) and hemorrhagic anemia (medium), 3) HP infection, and 4) malnutrition (severe), and suggested that he should continue to receive treatment.

Fig. 1. Wang Quanlian's medical record at the No. 4 People's Hospital of Chenzhou City

Although Wang Quanlian's health condition was so poor, and regardless of the suggestion from the hospital for continued treatment, the "610 Office" of Chenzhou City, as well as the Beihu District Court, illegally sentenced Mr. Wang to three years of imprisonment.

They forcibly sent Wang Quanlian to Chishan Prison in Yuanjiang City, Yiyang, Hunan Province, where he has been detained in the No. 2 Brigade, Section No. 3. Mr. Wang is being forced to do labor for over ten hours per day. Sometimes, his legs are swollen and he can barely walk, but he still has to do the work.

Wang Quanlian lived in the Jietong Coal Mine, Suxian District, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. In 2003, in order to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to people, he and some fellow practitioners printed Falun Gong fliers, but were arrested by police at the truth-clarification materials production site. They were detained at the No. 2 Detention Center of Chenzhou City.

During the one-year extended detention term at the No. 2 Detention Center, Wang Quanlian suffered all sorts of inhuman tortures. Every day, he had to do forced labor for over 10 hours in a kneeling position. He was mainly forced to make colored lights for export. He would be punished if he could not finish the assigned work quota.

The vegetable dishes provided to him were overcooked and lacked nutrition. Many people detained there don't have a bowl, cup, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap or even toilet paper. Whenever a meal was sent in, they had to finish eating the food in the shortest possible time because the cart dispatching the food would come in from Cell No. 1 and pass on the food cell by cell until it reached the last cell. The cart would then be brought back to collect the meal-boxes. If you could not eat fast enough, your food-box would be taken back before you were finished eating.

Often, people detained at the No. 2 Detention Center are beaten up. Some bully ringleaders in the cells privately designed "108 Dishes" torture methods that were very cruel. These ringleaders often tortured others just for fun. Whenever a "dish" was called, everyone in the cell would have to use that torture method to torture a criminal inmate or a Dafa practitioner.

For example, "Cut the Phoenix's Claw" is a torture method in which the person who was being tortured had to kneel beside a 3-foot high cement washboard (for washing clothes) and place his arms on the cement washboard. The ringleader would instigate criminals to use their hands or feet to apply pressure to the person's fingers. Other criminals would use their shoes to hit the fingers. Sometimes a person's fingers would be hit over 100 times.

"Wrapping Dumplings" is a torture method in which a practitioner is wrapped up in cotton blankets, and then every criminal would take turns firmly punching the blanket. This way, any yelling from the one being beaten could not be heard, and it wouldn't cause any bleeding on the surface. It would, however, cause internal injuries to the person being tortured this way.

"To Whip with an Ox's Tendon" is to whip a person with a special lash made of copper from electric wires. Often, the old scabs haven't healed before fresh whippings create new ones. It is rumored that Dafa practitioner Mr. Wu Jianmin, from Chenzhou, was lashed four times in one day. Nobody can remember how many lashes he received. Three months later, the skin on his back became like pine bark and he could not straighten his back. During one session, he was whipped to the point of becoming distraught and not knowing what he was doing.

"Hit the Bell" is a torture method that forces someone to stand with their legs touching each other and then having them fall over toward a wall to hit the wall. The person would be forced to hit the wall for the same number of times as the time of the day at that moment.

In the "Stir-fry Belly" torture, a practitioner is knocked to the ground and every criminal steps on his abdomen one time. It is said that a criminal from the countryside died this way ¨C his abdomen was ruptured and his intestines came out. He died on the way to the hospital. The detention center wanted to shift responsibility for this atrocity and strictly covered up the incident, telling the family members that the person died of an acute disease.

There are also torture methods named "Open-heart Fist," "Stir-fry Ribs," "Stir-fry Waist," and "Drinking Beer," etc.

This is the human rights situation in China. We ask that human rights groups around the world visit Chinese prisons to see firsthand these "hells on earth," where Falun Gong practitioners are ruthlessly persecuted.

Radio Free Asia: Chinese Embassies Refuse Passport Extensions for Falun Gong Practitioners

(Clearwisdom.net) Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on August 26 that more than ninety Chinese Falun Gong practitioners living in 19 countries overseas were refused passport extensions by their Chinese embassies. Chinese student Qing Li of Stanford University, USA talked about the refusal of her passport extension. The following story is based on an RFA report on August 26 in San Francisco.

Ms. Qing Li came to the USA in 1996 as a student and now is a post-doctoral candidate at Stanford University. She began practicing Falun Gong after she came to the US. Her passport was valid until July 2001. On April 19, Ms. Qing applied to the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco for a passport extension. She did not receive any response for a long time.

Ms. Li said, "I called the Passport Division. Upon hearing my name, the person who answered the phone said, 'How come you are asking me? You attend activities against the government.' He then hung up on me. I did not have any other choice, so I asked my advisor to write a letter to the consulate."

"My advisor said immediately, 'This is a very good student, how come her citizenship is refused?' He sent a fax to the consulate. At the same time, I asked for help from the director of the International Student Center. He was indignant too. He said, 'Ten years ago, they treated students from the Tiananmen democracy movement like this. We contacted them but they refused to respond.' He said, 'However, for you, I'll help you and contact them.' He sent a fax too."

Qing's advisor and the director of the International Student Center did not get any response from the consulate after sending the faxes. Without other options, Li Qing went to the consulate in person. She told officials in the consulate that Falun Gong helps people to improve health and to be good people. Then what was the result?

Ms. Li said, "The consul in the Passport Division said mercilessly, 'Practicing Falun Gong is illegal.' He refused to extend my passport."

Since July 2001, Qing Li is a Chinese student being deprived of her citizenship. Qing said, "I was born and grew up in China. My Chinese citizenship is my basic right. What the consulate is doing does not any basis on any rule or law. We Falun Gong practitioners ask for our passports again and again. I have asked them to give me a written statement. But they never issue a written statement."

It was learned that many of the Falun Gong practitioners who were refused for passport extensions fell into a dilemma of having no legal status overseas, but were unable to return to their home country.

Qing said, "We are currently contacting the United Nations and human rights organizations to stop this kind of act and to get back our passports. On the other hand, if there is any danger to us, we hope to get support."

The above is report from special reporter CK.

People's Hearts Determine Their Future

A Policeman from Dalian City: I Also Want to Be Master Li's Disciple

(Clearwisdom.net) There was once a lonely old woman whose home was raided and her life's savings robbed. How would she survive in the future? Witnessing the confused look on her face, I started to question myself: "Are you helping or hurting people? Are you really the people's policeman or a robber and a bandit?"

I am a police officer at the Developing District Branch of the Dalian City Police Department in Liaoning Province. The police are supposed to uphold justice as well as safeguard the living and working environment of the people. Nevertheless, what I have been seeing is hardly that. Judging from personal experience, I no longer feel I am an upholder of justice who is trusted by the masses. On the contrary, I have become a hatchet man of Jiang's regime. In particular, I feel like I have become one of the bandits after Jiang's regime launched the suppression of Falun Gong. Ever since the first time I personally interacted with Falun Dafa practitioners, I have realized that policemen nowadays are not only bandits, but also criminals who have been killing good-hearted people. I was astonished to finally understand that if I continued to persecute Falun Gong practitioners I would reach nothing but a dead end.

Since the persecution of Falun Dafa began on July 20, 1999, authorities of the "610 Office" in the Developing District of Dalian City have committed numerous crimes against Falun Dafa practitioners. In particular, police officers have committed monstrous crimes under the leadership of Liu Wei, who is the second head of the Political, Economic, and Security Office of the Developing District's Police Department. These officers have brutally beaten, force-fed, shocked with electric batons, and tortured Dafa practitioners. Zhao Qian, Liu Wei, Sun Deshun, and Liu Dong are all directly accountable for the deaths of Li Zhongmin, Chen Yong and other Dafa practitioners. The following incident triggered me to reflect on my behaviors as a police officer.

At 4 p.m. on January 4, 2002, Under the directive of Sun Deshun, who is the Director of the "610 Office" of the Developing District of Dalian City, and Liu Wei, twenty anti-riot police vehicles were dispatched to encircle a house at 4 Liaoning Street located in the Developing District of Dalian City. The armed policemen were 10 meters apart from each other, surrounding the house. Once all the officers were in place, Liu Wei and Sun Deshun led them to break down the door. As soon as the door was broken down, the police then entered in search of "evidence." Some searched through suitcases, while others went through armoires, etc. They searched everywhere in the house.

While the many officers were searching for "evidence," they also greedily stuffed things into their pockets. Witnessing the bandit-like raiding, I became disgusted and decided to stand aside and not join in with them.

They arrested four people, including two young men who originally came from Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, and two other elderly women. Because the two young men were the main targets, Liu Wei personally instructed the officers to beat them up. After the beating, their appearance was too horrible to look at. One of the arrested women was Ms. Yu, the owner of the house, while the other was Wang Xiaozhi (a non-practitioner), the younger sister of the owner. Ms. Wang came from Hainan Province, visiting her sister to get a private loan.

The officers abducted these four people and locked them up in the Harbin Road Police Station of the Developing District of Dalian City. The two young men who were Falun Gong practitioners were later escorted back to Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province for further imprisonment. In addition, Liu Wei also ordered the police to send the owner's sister, Wang Xiaozhi, to be imprisoned for twenty-eight days in the Yaojia Detention Center of Dalian City, despite her non-practitioner status. After being released from the detention center, Ms. Wang demanded that the nearly thirty thousand yuan in cash that the officers claimed that they would temporarily hold for Ms. Yu be returned to her. Liu Wei rudely rejected her demand and threatened her, saying that she would be imprisoned again if she kept asking for the money back. Intimidated by this, the peasant woman not only stopped asking for the thirty-thousand yuan that she borrowed from her sister, but dared not ask for her own six hundred yuan that the officers took from her while she was body-searched. I was told that she was at that point penniless and returned to Hainan Province alone.

Because the elderly Ms. Yu, the owner of the house, was a Falun Gong practitioner and she had a "Falun Dafa is Good" banner in her home, the authorities detained her for four days from the afternoon of January 4, 2004 until 9 p.m. on January 7.

According to the Chinese Constitution, police have to find evidence and make a decision within twenty-four hours of detention. Without any evidence, police must release the detained, regardless. Otherwise, the officers who do this will have committed a crime themselves.

To cover up their crime, Liu Wei forced the elderly Ms. Yu to sign a document that changed the arrest date from January 4th to January 7th. Finally they sent her to the Yaojia Detention Center of Dalian City without any "evidence" (as the woman did not publicly post any posters or go out to spread the truth about Falun Gong). Later the authorities sentenced her to three years in a forced labor camp. They sent her to the notorious Masanjia Labor Camp.

This is hardly acceptable or comprehensible to anybody. Simply because of her belief, this seventy-year-old innocent lady would have to stay and be tortured in a notorious labor camp for three years, and nobody would know whether she would be spared or tortured to death over there.

Later, the authorities released the elderly woman due to her health condition. She used to be fairly plump, but now she looked like a different person, as she had lost over forty pounds. I felt so sorry for her. I could not imagine just how she spent those months in the Masanjia Labor Camp. I started to blame myself.

Our police station had been taking care of Ms. Yu's personal belongings, including her large sum of cash, which she later asked Liu Wei to return to her. But Liu refused to return any of it to her. Without her life's savings and with a house that had been raided, how can she survive the rest of her life? "Am I helping people or hurting them? Am I the people's guardian or am I a robber and bandit?" I asked myself.

Ever since I had first contacts with Falun Gong practitioners through my job, I have learned a lot about Falun Dafa. I began to ponder, "Why was Falun Gong so welcomed across the country before the suppression? Why had I never heard of anything like suicides or self-immolation back then, while so many bad things began showing up after July of 1999?" Today Falun Gong is persecuted only in China, but it has received thousands of proclamations and awards around the world. There is only one answer to this. Jiang Zemin has been lying to people, and he used his power and the national propaganda machine to lie to all the Chinese people.

Later on I read many Falun Dafa books and began to understand many things. I regret what I did before and want to wholeheartedly warn my fellow police officers to please put down those electric batons you have raised, carefully read the Falun Dafa books, and stop committing any further bad deeds. Otherwise, you might as well be digging your own graves. While Jiang does not leave any room of repentance for himself, we must do so. For the sake of our families and ourselves, please stop the crimes! Given the ever-increasing natural and man-made calamities within our police population, please think it over before committing any bad deeds!

I would like to use this opportunity on Clearwisdom.net to express my highest respects. Teacher Li, I swear that I will not do anything bad to Falun Dafa again, regardless of the bad deeds I have committed before. Whether you recognize me or not, I take myself as your disciple from the bottom of my heart. I will read your books and strive to be a good person.

Family of a Falun Dafa Practitioner Takes a Stand Against Falsifying Evidence

(Clearwisdom.net) In 2002, government officials from Hezhuang Township, Taocheng District, Hengshui City, Hebei Province visited the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Rongxin twice. On both occasions, they tried to use money to persuade Ms. Liu's family to slander Falun Gong's founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, on television. Ms. Liu's family categorically refused their offers.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Rongxin is a resident of Ma Village, Hezhuang Township, Taocheng District, Hengshui City, Hebei Province. She had previously suffered from inflammation of the gallbladder and liver problems. Although she sought treatments everywhere and spent a lot of money, her condition did not improve. After she started practicing Falun Dafa, Ms. Liu diligently cultivated her character and practiced the Falun Gong exercises. By conducting herself according to the principles of Falun Dafa, she got rid of her illnesses and became healthy again. Moreover, her moral standard also improved.

On July 20, 1999, out of jealousy, Jiang Zemin started the persecution of Falun Gong. On that day, Ms. Liu went to the provincial government to appeal for Falun Gong. On the evening of July 21, the police arrested Ms. Liu and sent her to Xinji Police Department, where she was illegally detained inside a garage. Hezhuang Township officials later took Ms. Liu back to her hometown.

On the evening of July 25, 1999, a group of police officers led by Li Jiquan from Hezhuang Police Station went to Ms. Liu's home. They asked her if she would keep practicing Falun Dafa. She answered yes and they left. Around eight o'clock the next morning, Li Jiquan and others went back to her home and took Ms. Liu to the police station. They illegally detained her for two days under the pretence of attending a "study session." On the afternoon of July 27, a local official notified Liu Rongxin's family that Ms. Liu would be released only if the family agreed to pay 2,000 yuan (1) for bail and 50 yuan for the study session. After this incident, the officials of Hezhuang Township went to Ms. Liu's home to harass her many times.

In December 1999, Liu Rongxin exercised her legal rights and went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was arrested and brought back to Hengshui City. She was then detained for one month. According to regulations, detainees are required to pay 5 yuan per day for food expenses. The director of the detention center, Geng Zhanwu, however, charged Ms. Liu 20 yuan per day, so the total expense was 600 yuan. After Ms. Liu was taken back to her hometown. The town officials again notified her family to pay another 2,000 yuan in bail for her release.

One day in 2002, officer Li from Hezhuang Township went to Liu Rongxin's home and said, "The township government still has the 2,000 yuan bail money you paid. If you agree to slander Li Hongzhi (founder of Falun Dafa), and let some journalists take pictures and videos, we will return the money to you." Ms. Liu's family member was very angry upon hearing that; "I won't do it if you returned the 2,000 yuan; I wouldn't do it even if you give me 2,000 yuan extra."

Later, the Communist Party Secretary of Hezhuang Township, Zhao Shiyong, went to Ms. Liu's home and said, "How about we return your 2,000 yuan and add some more?" Ms. Liu's family member replied, "Don't mention the amount of money, I won't even do it for 20,000 yuan." Liu Rongxin also said, "Who taught you that cursing and slandering people is okay?!" Zhao had nothing to say and left.

In 2002, when the former president of China, Jiang Zemin, went to Hengshui City, the local officials put Ms. Liu and her family under surveillance. They also went to her home and harassed her, disrupting the family's life. Then Li Jiquan from the local police station led a group of riot police to Liu Rongxin's home and tried to intimate her family. After that, the local "610 Office" members went to Ms. Liu's home on many occasions to harass her.

Practitioners Exchange Experiences and Insights

Some Understandings on Sending Forth Righteous Thoughts (Part 1)

(Clearwisdom.net) At the end of 2000, when the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong reached its peak, nearly one hundred practitioners in my area went to Beijing to appeal. Meanwhile, a truth-clarification materials production site was damaged, and many practitioners were arrested and detained in detention centers as a result. Between May and June of 2001, most practitioners were released without being found guilty. At that time, we did not know about sending forth righteous thoughts, but in our hearts we believed that Teacher was watching over everything! I still remember once while meditating in the detention center, I saw two paths I could choose: one was to go home, have a normal work-life while participating in the Fa-rectification at the same time; the other was to be sent to a labor camp then wander about to validate the Fa. Unwittingly I started to make a choice, thinking that the first path was good since nothing would be lost, and the second path was also fine since in that case there were no family members to worry about. As I was thinking about this, I suddenly realized I was wrong: I made the choices on the basis of seeking a comfortable life, which was selfish. Only Teacher's arrangement was the best! With that understanding, I immediately felt my entire body become warm, and I had a righteous thought: I will no longer make choices, and I will only listen to Teacher's arrangement. Several days later, I was released without being found guilty. From my experience, I came to understand what it meant to truly believe in Dafa and Teacher.

Just as we were released, Clearwisdom.net notified practitioners about sending forth righteous thoughts. Right before October of that year, the Public Security Bureau was afraid that we might go to appeal in Beijing, so they planned to hold a brainwashing class. Upon hearing the news, I immediately notified all the practitioners I could reach and asked them to send forth righteous thoughts. At that time, every practitioner that participated could sense the power of righteous thoughts. I remembered that we also shared understandings on how long we should send forth righteous thoughts. In the end, everyone agreed that while sending forth righteous thoughts, we should not pay much attention to the duration. For example, in the battle between the righteousness and evil, if we concentrate too much on whether we have exceeded the expected time, how could that be a battle between the righteousness and evil? Afterwards, we no longer paid attention to time. Instead, we did not stop until all the evil was eliminated with righteous thoughts. The plans for the brainwashing class were dropped since no site was available. That was the first time we used righteous thoughts together to oppose the old forces' arrangements.

Following that, the Public Security Bureau director called in Falun Gong practitioners one by one for a so-called "discussion," in which he treated us like criminals. When he contacted me, I still had some anger inside me. So although my courageous attitude "suppressed" him, things were not completely resolved. He told me, "If you do not write a letter of guarantee [giving up the practice], I will send you to a labor camp directly!" After leaving the Public Security Bureau, I thought about a lot of things, but not about whether or not I would be sent to labor camp. Instead, I thought that I did not solve that issue with enough compassion. Teacher said that compassion could melt steel and iron, so how could an everyday person not be touched? Instead, I used a bad temper to suppress bad deeds, and of course it failed to touch people's hearts. After sharing our understandings with other practitioners, we all agreed that since the Public Security Bureau director often came to do bad deeds, we could not let it continue. We agreed to send forth righteous thoughts towards him for three consecutive days (each day at 8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m.) to eliminate the evil factors behind him. After making this decision, we notified more practitioners. As I walked to another practitioner's home, I saw a scene in another dimension: Teacher was sitting there smiling, and there were three enlightened beings in yellow besides him. One of the enlightened beings was standing in front of Teacher, towards the right, and was angrily talking about something while pointing at me. Through mental telepathy I suddenly understood what he was talking about: "See, your disciple is cultivating like this? Apparently he did not do well, yet he considers the person arranged to test him as evil and wants to eliminate him!" I immediately sent over a thought: "Stop it! I know the places where I did not do well, and I will do well tomorrow! Please stop complaining in front of my Teacher. I didn't do well and it has nothing to do with my Teacher." That being seemed startled. He did not realize I was able to see him and hear him. He kept his mouth open and did not know what to say. The scene immediately disappeared.

On that evening, I sent forth righteous thoughts as we planned. The image of the Public Security Bureau director appeared in my mind: he wanted to show his power, and he thus suddenly became very tall. I did not have any special thoughts, but he never exceeded me in height. After being unable to defeat me, he started to say good words, "Please let me go. I did not swear at you, nor give you a hard time. (When he arrested me, he did not have a bad attitude toward me. However, he beat and swore at other practitioners.) Come on, why can you not just let me go?" I said to him seriously, "You are wrong! I sent forth righteous thoughts not because you gave me a hard time or because you swore at me, nor was it for revenge. This is the Fa-rectification. As a practitioner, I have places that I need to improve. I will do better according to Teacher's requirements. You cannot arrange my path, and it is impossible for me to listen to you. If you cannot rectify your actions according to Dafa, you will have no choice but to be eliminated. I now give you an opportunity, and I will come back tomorrow." (At that time, I was not very clear who "he" was, but I knew it was not his human body.)

On the next day, I went to the Public Security Bureau, and the director was there when I came in. Without the viciousness of the previous day, he smiled at me and said, "You look well today." I also smiled and said, "So do you." Without human notions in my heart at all, the environment was very peaceful. Throughout the process, I was able to see how a human being was controlled by other beings behind him. When those evil factors were unable to control him, he showed interest and was willing to know more about Dafa. However, when he was controlled by the evil, he had a stern expression and said things to slander Dafa. It went like this back and forth several times, and the battle became more and more intense. It was so intense that he could not sit down next to me, but on the other hand, he wanted to sit next to me. Thus, as soon as he sat down, he would stand up and walk a few steps toward the door; then he would come back and sit down again; then he stood up and paced back and forth. It repeated like that five times. In this process, when he said, "Falun Gong is xx [slanderous word omitted]," at that moment I had feelings too compassionate to describe. When he said that for the first time, I pressed my palms together (Heshi) in front of my forehead and said to Teacher, "Teacher, if this person is indeed hopeless, then so be it. His fate is sealed." At that moment, after he started to say "Falun Dafa," he did not know what to say. He also calmed down. Then he came over and sat next me. Instead of continuing to wander around, this time he stayed there and asked me a few questions that he was confused about. Finally, he said, "This is an issue of belief. I cannot interfere with it and it is not my responsibility."

That was the first time we sent forth righteous thoughts together in our local area. It was also a prelude to validating the Fa (1) as a whole body. Since then, we have never been passive. No matter how rampant the evil is, we always have the overall situation in our favor. Since we started sending forth righteous thoughts at the beginning, we always tried our best, and each time has lasted about an hour. We also send forth righteous thoughts whenever we have to. Sometime during the night, we get up at 1 or 2 o'clock and send forth righteous thoughts. At that time, there were too many evil factors, and whenever we cleared things up, some practitioners stepped forward to validate the Fa. When we needed to, we could also hold experience sharing sessions. This is because we send forth righteous thoughts. We are also eliminating interference on the Internet and phone lines.

Leaving Behind an Upright Legacy: A Practitioner's Recollections of the Early Years of Falun Dafa in China (Part 2)

(clearwisdom.net)

Part 1: http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/8/16/51428.html

In the spring of 1992, Teacher began to spread the Fa and teach the exercises around the country. Each time Teacher gave a lecture, he always sincerely and tirelessly taught practitioners the following principles: "Falun Gong cultivation directly targets one's mind," we cultivate "Zhen, Shan, Ren" simultaneously, and cultivators should care less about "reputation, material interest and sentimentality" in order to transform de (virtue) into gong (cultivation energy) and to continue true cultivation and maintain xinxing (mind-heart nature, moral character). Falun Gong has great power and cultivators' gong develops very quickly. Teacher made it possible for each practitioner to cultivate, a priceless treasure which cannot be bought with money, no matter how much money one is willing to pay! Because of this, Falun Gong has attracted countless predestined people to join in cultivation practice. I am one of those predestined people who saw and heard many real miracles. I have witnessed many moving scenes and I have seen firsthand how Teacher's miraculous cures gave many seriously ill practitioners a second life. These recollections cannot ever be removed from my memory.

It was not easy when Teacher began to teach the Fa (Law and principles) and the exercises, because most of the people attending the classes were ill and came for healing their illnesses. During the class they didn't understand much about the Fa-principles that Teacher taught, but they felt that the teachings were good and reasonable. At every lecture, practitioners' bodies were changed a lot, and they felt free from illness and benefited a great deal. Therefore, no matter where he gave lectures, there were always many people who followed Teacher and listened to the lectures one after another. Only when they finally understood the Fa-principles that Teacher taught did they really start on their path of cultivation, beyond the basic concerns of healing and fitness.

A relative of mine lived in Changchun City in the same area as Teacher. In the summer of 1992 my relative suffered from intestinal adhesions and was sent to the hospital. The doctor said that it would be very hard to cure him by surgery because he had already had surgery twice before. Medicine didn't have any effect on him, and there were no other treatment options, only waiting for death. His family members were very worried and looked everywhere for treatment. A Falun Gong practitioner from my relative's workplace told him, "There is a qigong master in Changchun. Master Li is giving lectures to teach the Fa and exercises. In the lectures many practitioners suffering from difficult and complicated illnesses and even critical illnesses have fully recovered after being adjusted and purified by Master Li. Now the fourth class is over and Master Li is going to Beijing in two days." My relative heard about it and asked this practitioner to beg Master Li to treat him. After this practitioner introduced the situation to Teacher, Teacher agreed to the patient coming to his home.

My relative's family carried the patient by taxi to Teacher's home. Teacher was very welcoming. As he was talking to the patient, he opened the window and moved his hand toward the position of the patient's ailment. He then grabbed that being and then threw it out the window. Then Teacher brought over a dish of fruit and gave the patient a banana to eat. The patient said, "I dare not; I haven't eaten anything for seven days." The practitioner immediately said, "Teacher let you eat, you just eat; don't worry." The patient then ate some banana, no pain; then he ate some more, still no pain. At this moment my relative's wife understood and kneeled down to thank Teacher for saving her husband's life. Teacher helped the woman to her feet. My relative tried to give Teacher money to express his thanks. Teacher said, "I don't want a single penny; just go home and practice!" Afterwards, back at home, my relative could eat and drink normally and could also walk and ride his bicycle. With gratitude for Teacher, my relative's whole family attended the fifth set of classes that Teacher gave in Changchun City. After the lectures, my relative experienced great changes in his body and heart, and his understanding of the world also changed greatly. Later on, this practitioner devoted himself to assisting Teacher in promoting Dafa and saving more predestined people, and voluntarily sent Dafa books to his hometown and helped more people to learn Dafa. He firmly practices Falun Dafa and believes in Teacher, following Teacher on the path of cultivation.

In June of 1993, Teacher gave the sixth lecture series in Changchun City. My relative picked up his younger sister from another city and planned to attend the class. His younger sister suffered from heart problems and it was very difficult for her to walk. Once again the practitioner from my relative's workplace introduced the situation of the younger sister to Teacher. The day before the class, Teacher came to my relative's home by taxi and adjusted and purified her body and made her walk freely. The hospital treatment for her problem would have cost over 100,000 yuan (1), however Teacher cured her for nothing. My relative's family was incredulous. Teacher said with smile, "Go to the hospital to check, if you don't believe it!" With awe and gratitude for Teacher, his family brought her to the hospital for a check-up; her problem was mended, and everything was normal. Afterwards my relative brought his younger sister to attend Teacher's classes. After ten days of lectures, all her illnesses disappeared. When she went back home, she could care for herself and she could do some simple housework. She had saved over 100,000 Yuan, and had miraculously gotten well without any pain. Through this experience, his younger sister's friends all highly praised Falun Gong saying, "Falun Gong is such a miracle!" All of them expressed their interest in listening to Teacher's lectures and practicing Falun Dafa. It was exactly as Teacher says, "Those who really have a predestined relationship and can enlighten will come one after another, entering the Dao and obtaining the Fa." (Essentials for Further Advancement - Enlightenment)

At the end of 1992 and 1993, Teacher participated in the Oriental Health Expo in Beijing. During the Expo, Teacher voluntarily adjusted and purified the bodies of predestined people and in doing so, he spread Falun Gong in society. After my relative heard about Teacher being at the Expo, he brought his neighbor, who was suffering from cancer, and other friends to Beijing.

In the 1993 Beijing Oriental Health Expo, Mr. Li Hongzhi received the highest honor by being issued the "Fringe Science Progress Award," and the Expo's "Special Gold Award." In addition, Mr. Li Hongzhi was called "Most Welcomed Qigong Master." Mr. Li Hongzhi received the most awards of anyone at the Expo.

During the Expo Teacher performed many miracles. For example, the hometown friend who suffered from cancer couldn't walk and had to be carried by his family to the Expo site. After being adjusted and purified by Teacher, right then he could walk around. Another example is of a woman, Sun Baorong from Beijing, who was disabled in a bus accident; she lay in a hospital bed for one year. Her family carried her on their backs to the Expo. After being adjusted by Teacher, she stood up miraculously and walked around. From then on, no matter where Teacher gave classes, she would follow and listen to Teacher's lectures. When Teacher gave the seventh class in Changchun City, I saw her in good health and she looked very young. There was also a male practitioner who was in his thirties and was bent over with his back at a 90-degree angle. After being adjusted by Teacher on the spot, along with a cracking sound in his vertebra, he straightened his waist slowly and looked the same as anyone else. Teacher's Fa power and gong potency are incomparably miraculous. During the Expo, Teacher cured many such patients with critical illnesses or suffering with difficult and complicated diseases, and was well received by the masses. Therefore Teacher received the highest honor by being issued the "Fringe Science Progress Award," and was called "Most Welcomed Qigong Master." Teacher donated all the income of his second lecture to the China Jianyi Yongwei Foundation [foundation under the administration of the Ministry of Public Security, for rewarding people who voluntarily combat crime out of conscience and morality].

On December 27, 1993, the China Jianyi Yongwei Foundation conferred on Mr. Li Hongzhi an honorary certificate.

Ten years have passed in a flash. The things I've experienced, one after another, remain fresh in my memory. Teacher has been saving sentient beings with compassion and is protecting all predestined people. Teacher has done so much for us; however Teacher doesn't want any repayment but only that practitioners have a heart of cultivation. Although we have encountered great hazards along our cultivation way, they cannot shake our resolve in following Teacher. Our belief has grown steadfast and firm.

(1) Yuan: the unit of currency in China; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.

My Understanding of Borrowing and Lending Money

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, I heard that many fellow practitioners are in debt. Some of them have been in debt for a long time and their responses to it differ. One practitioner recently borrowed a lot of money from other practitioners privately at different times. Unaware that he had already borrowed a great deal of money from many others, all these practitioners therefore were willing to help him, thinking that a cultivator was bound to be good for the loan. Unfortunately, he never repaid anyone.

Practitioner A's financial situation was already not good, but he still borrowed money without a good reason. When he could not borrow enough from regular sources in society, he began to borrow from fellow practitioners. Practitioner B's family had a shop, so A visited and called B frequently to ask for help. Practitioner B told him that he should shoulder his own responsibility instead of asking others to assume it. In addition, not all practitioners are rich people, and those that run shops may have taken out business loans from banks. Also, B's husband is not a practitioner and would have a hard time understanding it if his wife were to loan money to A.

After sharing with practitioner B, we felt it would be a good idea to remind others in the same situation to always view things from the perspective of the Fa (1). They should not do things according to the standards of everyday people because of financial pressure. I think that many times practitioners who have made such loans keep silent about these situations because they want to protect their pride and feel that asking for the money back might destroy a relationship. Also, since they know they need to cultivate their speech as practitioners, they don't talk about it with other people. As a result of this situation, many practitioners continue to borrow money.

At present, many practitioners need money urgently. I agree that one should shoulder his responsibility by himself. Otherwise, it may turn out to be a demon that interferes with fellow practitioners, since they then might not be able to buy necessities, attend Fa conferences, and they might suffer additional unnecessary hardships because other practitioners have borrowed their money.

I hope these practitioners who have had money borrowed from them by other practitioners can come together to share their understandings. It is necessary to ask for the money back in a proper manner. The test of money can easily cause cultivators to fall down in their levels. The pressures of everyday life might distort their righteous thoughts, making it easy for them to misunderstand the Fa's principles. Many of the problems resulting from borrowing and lending money have reached beyond the limit of individual practitioners. Consequently, this has influenced much of the Fa-rectification work. Big issues in personal cultivation, to my understanding, should not be mixed with important Dafa work, particularly work that involves large sums of money.

The inappropriate borrowing and lending of money has caused a lack of trust among fellow practitioners. In fact, I think that many of us are still at the level of everyday people on this issue, many of whom have the notion that money becomes a gift after it is loaned and that one can never get it back. When practitioners cannot solve such problems well, they are not even at the level of good everyday people.

If the environment of cultivators becomes impure, practitioners will be easily interfered with. It is difficult to reach agreement in a discussion. Fortunately, we are not a group of everyday people; we are people who cultivate Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance. We understand when fellow practitioners don't do well on occasion; however, we must act to correct our mistakes in time to recover the pure environment of Dafa practitioners.

The Cultivation Experiences of a Six-Year-Old Practitioner in China

(Clearwisdom.net) My name is Huihui. I am six years old and a young Falun Dafa practitioner who lives in China. The following is my experience-sharing article.

When I was about three years old, Dad would tell me stories that were related to cultivation. Since then, I wanted to cultivate and return to my true self. I then became a Dafa practitioner.

Dad first taught me to recite Hongyin (a collection of Teacher's poems). Very soon I could recite both books of Hongyin. Later, I started to copy Hongyin by hand. It was difficult since there were many words that I did not know how to write. When I wrote, I washed my hands, sat up straight and wrote very carefully. I would practice on another piece of paper for those words I did not know. I would write several poems every day. I completed copying both books within two or three months. Now I am reading Zhuan Falun (1).

I have encountered many tests. One time I had a fever and felt terrible. I could only lie in bed. I also vomited. Dad told me, "Teacher is cleansing your body. You need to enlighten to it. If you think you cannot endure it, we can go to the hospital." I thought to myself, "I am a Dafa disciple. Teacher is watching over me. I do not need to be afraid." I then said, "I will be OK." The following day when we studied Zhuan Falun together, I read the following sentences,

"When I held classes in other regions some things happened all the time. There'd always be some people who felt awful, and they'd be sitting there bent over their seats, they wouldn't get up, and they'd just wait for me to come down off the stage to heal them. But I wouldn't heal them. You can't even clear that hurdle, and later on when you cultivate on your own you are going to have a lot of big tribulations, so if you can't even clear this one, tell me, how are you going to cultivate? You can't even overcome that little thing? You can all definitely overcome those things..."

I thought to myself that I would definitely overcome it. By the third day, I was completely recovered and I could eat again. I knew that Teacher was cleansing my body.

Another time I suddenly had a toothache during the Spring Festival. It was so painful that I cried continuously. Dad then taught me how to send forth righteous thoughts. We sent forth righteous thoughts together. Afterwards, my toothache stopped. Dad said, "We eliminated the evil."

I also had tribulations in kindergarten. Nine children in my class always bullied me. They hit me and it hurt very much. I did not hit them back because I thought of Teacher's words, "But we've said that as a practitioner, you shouldn't hit back when attacked, or talk back when insulted--you should hold yourself to a high standard." (Zhuan Falun)

I like clarifying the truth to others. I know it is a magnificent thing because it can save people. Therefore, all young practitioners should do it well and let other people know that "Falun Dafa is good." The following are some of my experiences in clarifying the truth.

I am the class leader in kindergarten. When other children insult or hit others, I will tell them the principle of "Truth, Compassion and Tolerance," and tell them to be good people. I also ask them to remember, "Falun Dafa is good." I often tell them stories from Dafa and they love them. Sometimes, my schoolteacher asks me to tell stories, and I then tell them cultivation stories. Now many children know that "Falun Dafa is good."

We have many Dafa flyers at home. When my parents folded them, I would help out. I often got paper cuts but I was not afraid. Sometimes we worked until very late but I did not feel tired. I always happily persisted to the end. I often go out to distribute flyers or post banners with my parents. One morning, it was very cold. My parents and I went out to post banners with the words, "Bring Jiang Zemin to justice," and "Falun Dafa is righteous." My parents posted big ones and I worked with the small ones. We walked over two hours. Although I was tired, I did not ask Dad to carry me. I felt truly happy. On our way home, I held Dad's hand. His hands were very cold. I thought that Dad must be very cold. I thought that it would be great if Dad's hands were warm. After this thought, his hands indeed became warm.

Every time I see Dafa flyers on the street, I pick them up and give them to my parents. I think it is not good for people if they step on the flyers. One time at 8:00 p.m., my Mom and I went to distribute truth clarification materials [exposing the lies about Falun Gong and revealing the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners]. We went to separate entrances of a residential complex. Although it was very dark, I was not afraid because I knew that Teacher was watching over me. I posted flyers from the first floor up to the sixth floor. I did not see anyone around until I reached the seventh floor. The door opened and a man came out. He asked me, "What are you doing here?" I gave him a copy of the flyer and told him, "This is truth material. It is very good. You can read it." He said, "How can I read since it is so dark here?" I said, "You can wait until dawn." He said, "OK." He asked me, "Aren't you afraid that it is so dark?" I told him, "No. I am not afraid." He said, "You are not afraid. But I was truly scared." I did not say much and he went back inside.

Another time, I posted truth clarification materials from the first floor to the fifth floor. I saw a little girl standing at the door and asked her, "Do you want a Dafa flyer?" She said, "Yes." I gave her one and she thanked me. Her mother asked her from inside, "Are you chatting with others again?" The little girl asked, "What is this?" I told her, "It is good. You can ask your mother." I then went downstairs.

In order to let more people know that Dafa is good, I asked Dad to teach me to write "Falun Dafa is good," "Truth, Compassion and Tolerance is good," and "Falun Dafa is righteous." I then wrote these words on posters so many people could see them.

I still have some shortcomings. For example, I do not like to do the exercises and send forth righteous thoughts. But I will be more diligent in the future. I hope that all the young practitioners in the world can learn from each other's experiences and save more sentient beings.

Falun Dafa Frees a Woman of Chronic Illness; Her Family is Amazed and Overjoyed

(Clearwisdom.net) In the summer of 2003, a 49-year-old female retired worker from a corporation in Chongqing City fell ill with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. She felt unbearable pain all over her body and later went to Chongqing City Hospital. After she was discharged from the hospital, her face, palms, and the bottoms of her feet all appeared yellowish and her lips appeared dark. She had to take a lot of expensive medicine. Her medicine alone cost more than 200 yuan (1) every month.

When I saw her on June 18, 2004, she looked very worried and told me that she had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. She said that she would have to take medicine for the rest of her life. However, after she took the medicine, it did not seem to help. My friend spent nearly 4,000 yuan on cardiovascular treatment equipment. A few days ago, she went to the hospital to have a check-up, and learned that she had developed gallstones. She was planning to have to have an operation. However, the operation expenses would cost her over 10,000 yuan. Since she felt so bad physically, and because she had to receive large numbers of blood transfusions, my friend couldn't do anything but shake her head and complain about her fate.

I said, "Even though you have taken quite a lot of medicine, none of your illnesses have been cured. Neither did that advanced treatment equipment help you. By practicing Falun Dafa, we can achieve the effect of opening up hundreds of energy channels and be free from illness. It is so convenient and it's free. How great that is!" As soon as this woman heard about Falun Dafa, she asked quite suspiciously about the "Self-immolation incident at Tiananmen Square." I explained to her thoroughly the whole incident, which was a hoax directed by Jiang's political regime to purposefully frame Falun Dafa for the sake of his own political gain. I also told her the truth about the persecution of Falun Dafa over the past few years. I mentioned that people who truly believe that Falun Gong is good will have good fortune. After she understood the true situation, she said with great excitement; "So that's the truth of Falun Dafa. Since Falun Dafa is so good, I want to practice it with you."

As I only began practicing Falun Dafa last year, I didn't have any Dafa books. So I borrowed Falun Gong from another practitioner, and lent her my exercises tape and the tapes of Teacher's lectures in Guangzhou.

On the third day, my friend came to my home cheerfully and told me that now her face, hands, and feet didn't appear jaundiced, and her lips had become rosy. She was so happy. She felt that her whole body was very light when walking up and down stairs and she didn't feel tired any more. She felt like a normal, healthy person. After she went to the hospital to have a medical check-up, they found that her blood pressure had become normal. Her gall bladder didn't experience pain any more, so she didn't feel like she needed to take medicine any longer, and neither was she thinking about using that cardiovascular equipment. After I learned this, I felt truly happy for her.

Two days later, my friend came to my home again and told me that all her diseases had been cured. She used to go out and play cards and gamble, and recently she always lost money. In addition, she quarreled with another person during a game. Later, my friend realized that as a practitioner one should not have such bad behavior. So she decided not to play cards any more. Within half a month, my friend could sit in the lotus position for over 20 minutes. Falun Dafa's wonderfulness gradually demonstrated itself in every area of her life.

When her husband came back home from working in another province, he saw that his wife's face was glowing with health. She was in very good spirits, as if she were another person. She cleaned up their home and kept it tidy. After she finished doing the housework, she squeezed in some time during the day to study the Fa (2) and do the exercises. At night, she copied teacher's articles. Her husband was very glad and said, "I didn't expect that Falun Dafa could have such an amazing effect. It not only healed your illnesses, but also helped you get rid of your bad habit of playing cards. It's truly great!" Their daughter added, "Since Mom started practicing Falun Dafa, she tells whoever she meets about how good Falun Dafa is and the fact that she doesn't need to take medicine or injections, or go through an operation. It was Teacher Li that saved her and brought good fortune to our whole family!"

This new practitioner said that her greatest wish was to obtain a copy of Teacher's book, Zhuan Falun, study the Fa well, hold her actions according to Teacher's requirements, strive forward and cultivate diligently in order to be a qualified practitioner. She also hoped that more and more people would come to learn Falun Dafa, obtain a new life and have a truly wonderful future.

Germany: Anti-Torture Exhibition Brings Support from a Local MP (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) The city of Passau is located in eastern Bavaria and is bordered on the east by the Czech Republic. It ranks as one of the seven cities with the best topography in the world. Visitors come to Passau in an endless stream throughout the year. Passau's geographical position is very unique as it is located at the point where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet.

As Passau is the Sister City of Liuzhou City in Guangxi, China, local citizens are very interested in things happening in China. However, they know little about the persecution against Falun Gong. On the 21st of August 2004, local Falun Dafa practitioners held an anti-torture exhibition in the city center, to call attention to the persecution. The event was also supported by practitioners from nearby cities such as Munich, Regensburg and Cham. It rained continuously in the morning and the rain got even heavier as we set up the exhibition site. This caused us great difficulty in the exercise demonstration and in distributing our informational leaflets. The anti-torture exhibition was also hampered by the rain, so we changed our frequency of sending righteous thoughts to once every half hour, and then the rain stopped.

To pedestrians on the streets, the anti-torture exhibition was inevitably the focus of the day. The exhibition directly showed what Falun Gong practitioners have been subjected to in China. Although what we showed was only the tip of the iceberg, it was shocking enough for people who passed by. As soon as the exhibition started, it immediately began to attract many people. Some were stunned and could not say a word. One woman even came up to ask whether the girl locked in the cage had really been beaten up like that, as the wounds looked so real. People accepted leaflets from practitioners unceasingly. A lot of them asked how they could help practitioners in China and many signed the petition to bring Jiang to justice.

Before the activity was finished, all the leaflets were distributed. Some people were quite disappointed when they could not have one. When we were packing up all our gear, a senior gentleman gazed at the display board and would not leave. Luckily one of the practitioners had one last leaflet in his bag, and he quickly gave it to the gentleman, who accepted it and looked at the practitioner with gratitude, saying, "Thank you," repeatedly.

Because the local newspaper had reported positively on our activity the day before, a city MP who heard the news came to see the anti-torture exhibition. He asked whether Falun Gong was persecuted with such brutally in Liuzhou, and hoped that practitioners could provide him with accounts of individual persecution cases taking place in Liuzhou. He guaranteed that in the next city senate meeting, he would raise the issue of the persecution against Falun Gong in Liuzhou and also the issue of the relationship between Passau and Liuzhou.

"Rescue Persecuted Kids" -- A Report on the Youth Bicycle Tour in Taiwan (Photos)

On the morning of August 6, 2004, twelve young men and women ranging in ages from twelve to twenty years old set off from Chung Cheng Memorial Hall for a fourteen-day bicycle tour. The focus of the trip was to call attention to the plight of young Falun Gong practitioners in China who are suffering under the persecution. After a long journey of three hundred kilometers, through rain and shine, the bicycle tour arrived at their destination, Er-Rwang-Bee in Kenting, Pingtung. Their unswerving determination moved many people. The young people received warm support and positive feedback along the entire route. All of the national media carried positive reports about the bicycle tour.

"Rescue Persecuted Kids" is an international activity calling attention to the serious violation of children's human rights in China. In addition to Taiwan, teenagers in Australia, the United States, Canada, Japan and other countries have participated in this type of activity with great enthusiasm. It has exposed the cruel persecution of Chinese children by Jiang's regime and has also brought attention to Falun Gong's great benefits to people of all ages, including children.

Mr. Zhang Yujun, representative of the Falun Dafa Association, said this activity was inspired by Fadu, a four-year-old Australian girl whose father was tortured to death in China for practicing Falun Gong when she was only six months. Her mother, Ms. Dai Zhizheng, has taken Fadu to more than thirty countries to call for the end of the persecution.

Visit to the Department of Culture and Department of Education in Yilan

The bicycle tour team visited the Department of Culture and the Department of Education on the afternoon of August 6. Director Xiao Rixin and Head of the Volunteer League, Zhang Xiuyu, gave speeches and praised the young Falun Gong practitioners' courage to face difficulties. They also expressed their support for Falun Gong practitioners who have been suffering under the past five years of cruel persecution.

Early in the morning on August 7, the bicycle tour team went to Qinshui Park, where an International Toy Festival was being held. One of the themes at the festival was Children's Human Rights. The exhibition called for protection of the human rights of children, including the basic rights to education, survival and safety. The theme of the exhibition coincided with purpose of the bicycle tour.

The bicycle tour arrived in Taoyuan County on the morning of August 9. Mr. Huang, Deputy Governor of Taoyuan County, said that Falun Gong practitioners' unyielding spirit and compassion reminded him of Gandhi and Sakyamuni. Their rationality and peacefulness reminded him of Gandhi. Practitioners have been spreading "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" despite the persecution. Sakyamuni's compassion has been embodied in hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Huang said he hoped the glory of Falun Gong would soon be brought back to his homeland of China. He wished the bicycle tour a great success.

The bicycle tour was warmly welcomed by the principals of Wenchang and Hsien Ching-Hsi Junior High School. Students lined up to greet the bicycle tour members. Ms. Li, principal of Wenchang High School, said no persecution should be tolerated. She likened Falun Gong practitioners to angels who spread the message of compassion to every corner of the world. Ms. Li admired the parents of these "little angels" on the bicycle tour, for supporting this extraordinary activity, while most parents only focus on improving their children's grades. She said it was worth consideration to establish a Falun Gong organization in the school. Mr. Wang, principal of Hsien Ching-Hsi Junior High School, expressed his admiration for the noble spirit and idealism of Falun Gong practitioners. He encouraged those in the bicycle tour.

He said this activity is exactly what is needed in society. The Director of Financial Management said, "Let me know if you need donations. I will do my best to help." Falun Gong practitioners told him kindly that Falun Gong doesn't take donations or gifts. All they need is to tell more people the true story of Falun Gong.

In our public concert, "The Night of Lotus Flowers," this gentleman said to the audience, "Dear guests, I have got something to tell everyone. Tonight all the artists who are participating in this performance are Falun Dafa practitioners from more than ten countries all over the world. They all came here at their own expense. Every plane ticket and all their lodging was paid by themselves. They are not being paid one penny for their performances. The purpose for doing this is to uphold human rights in the world, and is for the future of China, as well as Falun Dafa."

We believe the support this gentleman gave to Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners will bring him a wonderful and bright future.

Canadian Newspaper Burnaby Now Reports on Falun Dafa Practitioners' Meeting with City Council

Burnaby Now (Canada): Group wants help

By Jullie MacLellan, Burnaby Now reporter

In its August 11 edition, correspondent Jullie MacLellan, writing for the newspaper Burnaby Now, reports from a recent City Council meeting at which Falun Dafa practitioners appealed for help against the state-terrorist policies of Jiang Zemin's followers in China. The main focus of the discussion centered around a recent incident in which Falun Gong practitioners were targeted by gunmen in South Africa. According to the report, Falun Dafa spokesperson Sue Zhang related the following facts:

"On June 28, nine Falun Gong practitioners from Australia arrived in that country to help raise awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong, as well as the role of two visiting Chinese officials.

While on the way from Johannesburg airport to Pretoria, a white car overtook them and fired at least five shots at their vehicle.

The driver, Australian David Liang, was hospitalized with bullet wounds after being shot in his feet.

Johannesburg police have characterized this incident as attempted murder," Zhang told the council, noting that a random shooting incident has been ruled out.

A number of factors backed up that suggestion: Liang was, at the time, the only passenger wearing a yellow jacket with the words Falun Dafa on it; there was no robbery; the gunmen were armed with an AK-47 assault rifle.

Sadly, Zhang told the council members,, it's not an isolated incident.

She said Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted and tortured in China. She said more than 1,000 people have been verified as dead from torture in custody, thousands more sent to mental hospitals for persecution and over 100,000 placed in labor camps.

And she noted that persecution has been "exported," with incidents happening around the world.

Noting that in Burnaby, practitioners gather at Central Park, Simon Fraser University and the Metrotown Library, as well as taking part in local celebrations such as the Hats Off Day parade, Ms Zhang urged the council members to become informed about the persecution of Falun Gong that is happening around the world, and to write to federal ministers in support of a case being brought by a Canadian citizen, Kunlun Zhang, against Chinese officials

Mayor Derek Corrigan said, "All of us encourage Burnaby citizens to learn more about the persecution."

He suggested that, if people find they want to get involved, they should contact their MPs and federal cabinet ministers.

"Hopefully, worldwide attention is going to be able to help bring these human rights abuses to an end," he said.

Crosswalk (CNSNews.com) Reports that a Worldwide Campaign is Forming to Highlight Human Rights Abuses Ahead of the Beijing Olympics

Original report filed by Patrick Goodenough

CNSNews.com Pacific Rim Bureau Chief

August 24, 2004

CNS news is reporting that as the Olympic Games come to a close this weekend, many groups around the world are gearing up for a four-year effort to draw attention to the human rights record of the authoritarian government that will host the next summer event.

The article goes on to say: "At Sunday's closing ceremony, the city of Athens will hand over the Olympic flag to representatives of the city of Beijing. In 2008, China's capital will host what will likely be the most politically-charged Olympics since Hitler's Berlin hosted the Games in 1936.

Some human rights groups would like to see a boycott of Beijing 2008, but most are taking another approach, hoping that the event -- and the years leading up to it -- will provide new opportunities to highlight China's human rights violations and force improvements.

When the International Olympics Committee (IOC) in July 2001 picked Beijing over four other candidate cities vying to host the 2008 games, groups like Reporters Without Borders (Reporters Sans Frontieres or RSF) called for a boycott.

The Paris-based watchdog said there were as valid reasons for boycotting Beijing as there had been to justify the U.S.-led boycott of the Moscow Olympics in 1980, when 60 nations stayed away to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Since the OIC decision, RSF says the repression of dissident movements and ethnic or religious minorities in China has not stopped.

That appears to be the view held by many monitoring bodies, including the U.S. State Department, whose annual report on human rights around the world enumerates "a broad range of abuses by the communist authorities."

The article stated that in its most recent report, the US State Department accused Beijing of "backsliding" on its rights record during 2003. It cited extra-judicial killings; the arrest of democracy activists, Christians, journalists and labor protestors and the repression of the Falun Gong meditation movement, among others.

China, the report went on, is very sensitive about international criticism of its rights record.

"For the past five years in a row, China's State Council has issued a report accusing the U.S. of abuses and slamming its foreign policies, just days after the State Department releases its annual global evaluation.

And whenever the U.S. has sponsored a resolution at the annual U.N. Human Rights Commission gathering in Geneva censuring Beijing for abuses, China mobilizes sufficient support to prevent the measure from being brought to a vote - or even debated.

It is this sensitivity that human rights organizations are hoping to exploit in the run-up to 2008.

As the Athens Olympics draws towards a close, an organization based in Prague called Olympic Watch says it is intensifying its campaign for human rights and democratic reform.

The group, which was established as a result of Beijing's selection as Olympic host, plans to draw attention over the next four years to the situation in the world's most populous country and press for improvement.

In New York, Human Rights Watch on Monday launched a new "China Olympics Watch" website, with the same aim in mind.

"Responsibilities come with the international prestige China receives by hosting the 2008 Olympic Games," said the organization's Asia division director, Brad Adams.

"An embarrassing record of continuing human rights abuses is no way to welcome the world to Beijing."

Human Rights Watch called on the IOC to press China for freedom of expression, not just for the thousands of foreign journalists who will visit for the event, but for all Chinese citizens before, during and after the Games."

Letter to the Editor of the Magic City Morning Star (Maine): Reporting on Falun Gong

By Lorraine Kabacinski

Aug 24, 2004, 21:59

In a letter addressed to the editor of the Magic City Morning Star, a Falun Gong practitioner from New York expressed her gratitude for the publication of another practitioner's letter which decried the lack of media coverage of the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China (1). After giving some background on the way the totalitarian government in China not only controls its own press, but also suppresses stories by western reporters, the author then goes on to talk about her personal experience of persecution as a Falun Gong practitioner. She states:

"I, myself, have been a target. I am a Caucasian female living on Long Island. I have practiced Falun Gong for over five years and have derived great benefit from the practice. However, after ten years of exemplary service at a local college, the college administration chose to dismiss me from my teaching assignment as they were actively setting up a relationship with the Chinese education system. This was in 2002. I have filed a complaint (August 2003) with the New York State Human Rights Commission. The Commission is in the process of investigating my complaint. It is more than

interesting to note that the Minister of Education at the time, Chen Zhili, has had to answer criminal charges related to the persecution of Falun Gong in a case filed in Tanzania on behalf of Falun Gong practitioners that have suffered during her tenure as Education Minister in China (http://www.faluninfo.net/displayAnArticle.asp?D=8843).

I hope that your organization will continue to follow up on this horrendous human rights violation situation, so that more people can become aware of the immense degradation that is being perpetrated by Jiang Zemin and his cohorts."

Sincere thanks to you,

Lorraine Kabacinski

2. [Beijing] Beijing Women's Prison Escalates Mental Abuses against Falun Dafa Practitioners

Officials at Beijing Women's Prison were quite embarrassed and very angry after Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Yuan Lin exposed the evil acts of prison guards in Ward No. 10 of the prison, who had instigated criminal inmates to beat Falun Dafa practitioners. Ms. Yuan gave her account at a meeting with nearly a thousand attendees on May 20, 2004. Prison authorities retaliated against her for exposing the prison guards' crimes. The head of Ward No. 10 has been dismissed. In addition, higher authorities have issued orders to raise the so-called "rate of transformation" (1) in an effort to escalate the persecution against Falun Dafa practitioners.

As a result, prison officials have geared up their brainwashing efforts and other mental abuses against steadfast practitioners who have refused to be "transformed." For example, these practitioners can spend no more than ten minutes talking to other Falun Gong students. They have to attend a number of brainwashing sessions and meetings after finishing forced labor assignments. They have been inundated by fabricated accusations against Falun Gong and defamatory attacks against their Teacher. In this oppressive atmosphere, they suffer severe mental and physical abuses.

On August 6, over twenty officers from the Jiujie Police Station took Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Lin Weizhong from Xinji Town to the Liuji brainwashing unit. Both practitioners refused to cooperate with the persecution and went on a hunger strike. They were brutally tortured and force-fed. Both remain in weak physical condition.

Ms. Wu Zhenju from Yangluo Street and Mr. Ding Ruliang from Sandian Street, along with other Falun Dafa practitioners, have also been taken to the Liuji brainwashing unit. This August was the second time that Mr. Ding was taken into custody. Two other practitioners, Ms. Hong Guizhen and Ms. Chen Lihong, were arrested and sent to the Wuhan Detention Center for removing banners and slogans defaming Falun Dafa and its Teacher.

Ms Yan was not at home at the time. They forcefully restrained and threatened Ms. Yan's daughter Zhang Baozhen in order to locate her mother. After being taken into a police vehicle, Ms. Zhang was so terrified and that she injured herself, which almost cost her her life.

86 People Declare that their Words and Deeds Under Forced Brainwashing are Null and Void

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."

Here are some examples of the Solemn Declarations:
