I. Introduction
The Chinese Anti-Cult Association (CACA) was founded by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Chinese government officials who have religious or scientific backgrounds. Following the direction of the CCP, and with the help of the state-controlled media, the members of CACA have been using their religious and scientific backgrounds and name recognition in society to justify and further the persecution of Falun Gong. Their functions include providing explanations to people in China and abroad to justify the persecution, providing suggestions to the Chinese government regarding the methods of persecution, providing theories to criticize Falun Gong's principles, and directly participating in the brainwashing and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
After its establishment on November 13, 2000 in Beijing, CACA quickly developed many branches in different provinces, cities, work units, and even schools. It has been motivating people from all social levels to join its movement of criticizing Falun Gong and brainwashing Falun Gong practitioners.
According to Wang Yusheng, the Vice Director and the Secretary General of CACA, by October 2003, twenty-four anti-cult associations (ACA) have been established in different provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities; seven provinces and autonomous regions were in the process of establishing ACAs. These ACAs are branches of CACA. Since CACA was founded in November 2000, it has held nearly one thousand exhibits and propaganda activities around the country, as well as more than a thousand conferences and forums. It has also established the "China anti-cult website", and produced more than 20 films and 400,000 books. In 2004, local ACAs are still being established.
II. Leaders of the Chinese Anti-Cult Association
The founders of CACA are Chinese government officials who have religious or scientific backgrounds. They claim that they are from the community and established this organization voluntarily. The main leaders of the CACA are the following:
III. Governmental Nature of the Chinese Anti-Cult Association
CACA is a governmental organization established using a non-governmental title. Its governmental nature can be confirmed by looking at its organizational structure, financial sources, and the nature and characteristics of its activities.
1. Organizational Structure
CACA is a unit of the China Society and Technology Association, a governmental agency. CACA's office is located at the Chinese Science and Technology Museum, a governmental agency. The Secretary General and Vice Secretary General in charge of CACA's daily operations are full-time government employees. The authorities in some local ACAs are actually local government officials. All CACA branches have their offices inside governmental agencies.
Wang Yusheng, the Vice Director and the Secretary General of the CACA and the Director of the Chinese Science and Technology Museum, is the Legal Representative for both the CACA and the Chinese Love and Care Association (these are the same organizations with different names and are both registered under the Chinese Science and Technology Museum).
Li Anping, the former Director of the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology, works full-time for CACA and was transferred in January 2001 to be the full-time Vice Secretary General of CACA. [In China, a "transfer" only refers to job change within governmental agencies and is not related to non-governmental organizations.] His transfer was so urgent that the 2000 newsletter of the Chinese Society for the History of Science and Technology was not published as scheduled.
Cheng Ningning is also a full-time Vice Secretary General of the CACA. She was the Secretary General of the Federation of Chinese Women Scientists and the Vice Chairman of the International Department of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). According to an investigation on February 29, 2004, Cheng Ningning was still enlisted under and working in the International Department of the CAST, which means the government is paying her salary to work for CACA.
The President of the Yingkou City ACA in Liaoning Province is a CCP official in charge of the oppression of Falun Gong. On January 12, 2004, a ceremony was held for the establishment of Yingkou City ACA. Wang Anlai, the Vice CCP Secretary of the Yingkou City Committee and the CCP Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection, and Diao Shaochang, the Vice CCP Secretary of the Yingkou City Committee, were elected as Honorable Presidents of the Yingkou ACA. Wang Yousan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Yingkou City CCP Committee and the CCP Secretary of the Yingkou City Political and Judicial Committee, was elected to be the President of the Yingkou ACA. The Political and Judicial Committee is the main agency that directs the oppression of Falun Gong and is the department to which the "610 Office" is attached.
The Laiwu City Bureau of Science and Technology in Shandong Province is a governmental agency. Its Department of Academic Society has the sign of the office of the Laiwu ACA.
The subordinate governmental agencies accept orders from the higher level ACA. The Beijing Chongwen District Science and Technology Commission and the District Association of Science and Technology (AST) once, following the request of the Beijing ACA, organized "An Open Letter to the United Nations Human Rights Organization", in order to show the international community the "public opinion" of suppressing Falun Gong in China. This is further proof that CACA functions as a governmental agency.
In fact, the international community generally also regards the CACA as a governmental agency. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) even refers to CACA as the "official Chinese Anti-Cult Association".
2. Financial Sources
It is known that the ACAs' administrative offices are all located in governmental agencies and their overhead, transportation, and salaries are all paid by the Chinese government.
The Beijing Science Committee once sponsored 1.1 million yuan to fund the Beijing ACA and its propaganda campaign. In their literature, the local ACAs normally write "sponsored by related units" for their operational financial sources. However, the Tianjin Hexi District ACA and the Zhangjiakou City ACA in Hebei Province writes "sponsored by the government" for their operational fund. The Laiwu City ACA in Shandong Province indicated its source of funding as "government financial allocation".
In 2004, the Chongqing AST and the Chongqing ACA decided to award outstanding organizations in 2003 that served "Health and Life in the Family". [This activity had anti- Falun Gong content.] It used funds from the Chongqing AST and awarded organizations with 1,000 to 3,000 yuan.
3. The Nature of CACA's Activities
All activities organized by CACA and/or its local branches are directed by the Political and Judicial Committee of the CCP and "610 Office."
On its website, CACA claims it is "a special social community organization with important political functions and tasks. Only under the leadership of the CCP and developing activities closely related to the prevention and the handling of cults, could [the CACA] accomplish its mission". The Zhejiang Province CCP Committee emphasized that the Zhejiang AST leadership over the ACA needs to be strengthened. The officials of Chongqing Political and Judicial Committee of the CCP gave speeches at the first and third seminars held by the Chongqing ACA where they affirmed the association's previous work and made specific requirements for its future tasks. The sixth article of the second chapter of the regulation of the Laiwu ACA in Shandong Province clearly states its functions as carrying out the CCP's and the government's persecution policies and important orders, as well as performing all "anti-cult" tasks assigned by the pertinent departments.
In October 2003, CACA sent a delegation to the USA, clearly stating that the event followed the arrangement and instruction from the Central CCP.
The local CCP and governmental officials routinely attend and give speeches at the ACA's meetings, which is impossible for any non-governmental organizations. For example, on March 29, 2003 when the Hubei Province ACA was established, the Vice Governor, Su Xiaoyun, attended the ceremony and gave a speech. When the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region ACA was established, Zhang Guomin, the member of regional Standing Committee and the Head of Propaganda Department of CCP attended the ceremony and gave a speech.
In Shandong Province, all levels of the CCP committee's "Leadership Team to Deal with Falun Gong Problem" accommodate the AST, to which the ACAs are subservient. As far as any significant activities are concerned, the provincial CCP committee would have concrete arrangements and instructions for the ACAs. The associations would earnestly complete these tasks and report to the CCP committee.
The ACAs are actually units of the CCP committee's "Leadership Team to Deal with Falun Gong Problem" agencies. Throughout the provinces and cities, their operation reflect the government controlled "special" and "important political functions and tasks". The CACA provides suggestions to the Chinese government regarding the theories and methods of the persecution and assists in the propaganda inside China. It also actively promotes the anti-Falun Gong propaganda and helps to justify the persecution of Falun Gong policy overseas.
IV. Goals and Characteristics of the Chinese Anti-Cult Association
The single goal of CACA and its branches around the country is to oppress Falun Gong.
This directly violates the State Council's regulation for the registration and administration of social groups. This regulation's Article 4 states that any social group should not harm the nation's interests, social public interests, other organizations, and citizen's legal rights and interests. It is clear from the statements of CACA and its branches, that the main goal of its establishment is to damage the reputation of Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners. One of the CACA's routine tasks is to positively advocate, implement, and directly participate in the brainwashing of Falun Gong practitioners. This violates the citizen's freedom of belief bestowed by the Chinese constitution. Differing from the centralized persecution of people in the past, CACA persecutes people's beliefs in the name of a civic organization. In China, many organizations have participated in the persecution of Falun Gong in various degrees. However, CACA is the only one that takes the persecution as its single goal.
V. The Major Activities of the Chinese Anti-Cult Association
1. The Major Composition of China's Anti-Falun Gong Propaganda
The major task of CACA is helping the Jiang Zemin-controlled propaganda machine to fan the hatred towards Falun Gong throughout China and the world. When interviewed by the reporter of Guangming Daily, Wang Yusheng, the secretary general of CACA, explained that the "million signature campaign" is to actively attack, and let the world know the hatred towards Falun Gong.29
The "Tiananmen Square Self Immolation" on January 23, 2001 and intense propaganda that followed it were the most important steps reflecting the escalation of Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong and his attempt to make the Chinese people accept and agree with it. The Chinese government has never permitted any third party to direct an independent investigation. The "Self Immolation" was a purposely staged incident, a fact which has been verified from many sources: The Washington Post reporter Philip Pan's report from Zhenzhou City, Henan Province, indicating that victim Ms Liu Chunling was never known by her neighbors to practice Falun Gong; the results of voice analysis and recognition performed on the main victim, Wang Jindong ("the main organizer" as named in CCTV Focused Topic program in the "Self Immolation") by The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG). In addition, the award-winning program "False Fire," produced by New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV) with a detailed analysis of the CCTV broadcasted video clips, points out that the "Self Immolation" was staged right at the moment when the persecution was under national and international condemnation and had become increasingly difficult to continue. It was the moment when the Jiang regime deeply needed a "breakthrough" to keep the persecution going. In less than two months, the UN human rights conference was going to discuss China's human rights violations in persecuting Falun Gong. Jiang was desperate to find way to justify his persecution of Falun Gong in front of the Chinese people and the world community, so as to escape responsibility and condemnation. On January 11, 12 days before the date of the "Self Immolation," CACA launched the "Million Signatures" campaign against Falun Gong. Its purpose was mainly for paving the way for this event. Right at this critical time period, "Tiananmen Self Immolation" took place at the right time and right place in the most suitable way. Currently, there is no proof of the direct connection between CACA's "Million Signature" and the "Self Immolation," but it is very obvious that the "Self Immolation" fueled the "Million Signature" Campaign.
On January 11, 2001, the "Million Signature Drive Against Cults to Protect Human Rights" started its signature collection campaign at Beijing University and sent a proposal to the nation. In March 2001, the CACA delegation brought a one-ton bolt of fabric to the United Nations' Human Rights Conference in Geneva, on which more than 1.5 million names had been signed. This nationwide signature collection campaign was fully driven by government agencies, since the Chinese government has forbidden any social group's activities from extending beyond its own province. For example, the Tianjin Youth League Committee of the CCP organized the signature collection; the location for the signature signing was inside the Jiangxi Province's government courtyard. The signatures at all the universities and colleges were arranged by the Ministry of Education and the local education committees.
From November 26 to December 5, 2003, sponsored by the CAST and the Central CCP 610 Office, the China Love and Care Association and the CACA held anti-Falun Gong photo exhibitions in Beijing for 10 days. This exhibition fomented hatred towards Falun Gong. This same exhibit has been held by the Chinese embassies in other countries, including Singapore, South Korea, The Hague, Paris, etc., exporting the hate propaganda overseas.
Zhao Zhizhen, one of the initiators of CACA and the director of the Wuhan Broadcast and Television Bureau, produced a film slandering Falun Gong and its founder in June 1999. This film was frequently shown on CCTV starting on July 20, 1999, and signaled the beginning of the suppression of Falun Gong.
Whenever there is a significant event, CACA becomes central in the coordination around it, furthering the regime's suppression of Falun Gong by issuing statements and organizing forums. For example, it made the announcements regarding the case of Fu Yibin killing his father and wife, the "Tiananmen Square self-immolation", the "Sinosat hijacking", and the article published by the CACA Director Zhuang Fenggan regarding the United States Congress' Resolution H.Con. 188.
In its persecution of Falun Gong, it is crucial that the CACA propaganda "blots out the sky and covers up the earth". The Washington Post quoted a Chinese official's words on August 5, 2001 that [whether or not the suppression was effective] depended on three factors: violence, propaganda, and brainwashing. He said that, "high-pressure propaganda has been critical. As the Chinese society turned against Falun Gong, pressure on practitioners to abandon their beliefs increased, and it became easier for the government to use violence against those who did not". The government used the "Tiananmen Square self-immolation" as the core of its anti- Falun Gong propaganda. The repeated broadcasting of the scene of the 12-year-old girl's burn finally made many Chinese people believe what the government said. "Pure violence doesn't work. Just brainwashing doesn't work either. And none of it would be working if the propaganda hadn't started to change the way the general public thinks. You need all three."
The propaganda of the CACA has had such an effect.
2. Providing Ideological Theories for the Persecution of Falun Gong
Since its establishment in November 2000 through the end of 2003, the CACA has held eight forums and two annual "Anti-Cults Theory and Practice" conferences discussing theories of brainwashing tactics. In 2002, staff from the Beijing ACA, the Beijing Psychological Health Association, the Beijing Cult Prevention and Handling Office [610 Offices] including Bi Shu and Liu Fuyuan's "A Research on the Psychological and Social Factors and the Intervention Measures of the Cult Members" won the 2002 Outstanding Investigation and Study award from the Beijing AST. The anti-Falun Gong research by the president of the Shandong Province Anti-Cults Association was listed as "the Tenth Five-Year Plan" scientific research project by the Shandong Academy of Social Science.
3. Providing Measures for the Persecution of Falun Gong
CACA has directly participated on the front lines of the persecution of Falun Gong through the police and judicial system. Pan Jiazheng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and one of the initiators of CACA, has proposed a systematic plan of suppression of Falun Gong at the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The plan includes the internet blockade (even suggesting to punish those who provide website resources for Falun Gong practitioners); mobilizing the public to monitor Falun Gong practitioners; punishing practitioners who persist in their belief by dismissing them from the CCP, the Youth League, and other government positions and not allowing them to be teachers, lawyers, reporters, or physicians.
This policy directly resulted in the extension of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners into wider areas of society, including education and the judiciary. In the education area alone, dozens of teachers and students have been persecuted to death, including an over 60-year-old professor, Pu Shigao from the Medical School of Yanbian University. He was arrested for exposing the human rights violations and illegality of the persecution to the public. He was subjected to torture in the Yanji Detention Center but never gave up his belief in Falun Gong. Professor Pu was later tortured to death in Yanji Detention Center. On June 27, 2002, lecturer Ms. Li Xiaojin of Guangzhou University was abducted to the brainwashing center at the Guangzhou City, Huangpu area Drug Rehab Center. She was tortured to death in less than 24 hours. Just at Tsinghua University alone, more than thirty Falun Gong practitioners, including Yao Yue, have been sentenced to forced labor camps and as much as 12 years of imprisonment. In the legal area, Judge Hu Qingyun from Jiangxi Province was tortured to death, and more than ten lawyers and judges have been persecuted.
4. Directly Planning and Participating in the Brainwashing of Falun Gong Practitioners
While the former Soviet Union and other communist countries only detain political dissidents in mental institutions, Jiang Zemin's regime spread the unprecedented brainwashing to the entire population. The methods of brainwashing include forced viewing of state-run media propaganda, forced-labor, pressure and continuous monitoring from work and residential units, sleep deprivation, and torture. CACA has played a major role in this brainwashing.
Wang Zhigang, the board member of the Jilin Province ACA (JACA) and a member of the Air Force's 610 Office, and Song Jianfeng, a member of the JACA, have been invited by departments including the Provincial Forced Labor Camp and the 610 Office to give a series of presentations. They worked with the Shenyang Air Force and the 610 Office of Jilin Province and Changchun City in various research projects and participated in the brainwashing of Falun Gong practitioners. They wrote two books that have been used extensively as brainwashing materials by hundreds of forced-labor camps, prisons, the Political and Judicial Committee, 610 offices, and brainwashing centers all across the country. According to Falun Gong practitioners who were detained at Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp in Jilin Province, Wang Zhigang used to personally brainwash Falun Gong practitioners in this camp, notorious for torture and the killing of several practitioners.
The Henan Province ACA organized some "experts" to participate in "re-education and transformation work". In Shandong Province, the Jinan ACA organized some "experts" to give lectures in the forced-labor camps and brainwashing centers. The Shengli Oil Field ACA summarized 12 brainwashing methods and explained brainwashing standards. The Shandong Province ACA trained 800 cadres for the provincial CCP committee and provided books and videos for the labor camps and brainwashing centers. The Shanxi Province ACA went to the forced-labor camps to help with the brainwashing. The Harbin ACA in Heilongjiang Province sent a lecturers' group to Wanjia Forced Labor Camp to give speeches and present brainwashing books. The Zhangjiakou City ACA in Hebei Province established "re-education groups" that went to "law education schools" [brainwashing centers] to help with the "transformation" of Falun Gong practitioners.
Lin Cheng Tao is a typical example of such "transformation". Lin was an assistant researcher at the Basic Medicine Institute of the Chinese Union Medical University. In October 2001, he was abducted to the second team of the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Beijing. In the end of 2001, his brainwashed wife from Xinan Forced Labor Camp wrote to the head of Lin's team and suggested that he try to force Lin to give up his belief by using the measures used in the female labor camp, including electric shocks, physical punishments, mental tortures, and sleep deprivation. The police forced Lin to read the letter again and again until he had a mental breakdown.
5. Extending the Persecution of Falun Gong Overseas
The CACA held activities overseas, and then sent the "overseas news" back to China to show "international support", in order to increase and justify the persecution inside China. At the end of 2000, CACA launched the "Million Signatures Drive" against Falun Gong. On January 11, 2001, it started from Beijing University and spread through society from there. CACA distributed100 bales of fabric, each 100 meters long, to different places. Then the local CCP, government and local ACA organized people to sign. As of February 26, 2001, the organizers claimed that they had collected more than 1.5 million signatures.
In March 2001, a CACA delegation brought a one-ton bolt of fabric that contained more than 1.5 million signatures to the United Nations' Human Rights Conference in Geneva, and sponsored an exhibition of the fabric.
In March 2002, a CACA delegation brought more than 10,000 anti-Falun Gong letters to the United Nations' Human Rights Conference in Geneva. However, evidence indicated that these "public opinion" letters were not written by the public voluntarily, but were actually organized by the CACA. For example, the letter entitled "To the United Nations' Human Rights Organization" was written by "transformed Falun Gong practitioners" or brainwashing center staff in Beijing's Chongwen District Science Association according to the instructions given by the CACA.
In March 2003, the Director of the Chinese Science and Technology Museum, Vice Director and Secretary General of CACA Wang Yusheng, led a CACA delegation to Geneva again. This time they used the title "China Care and Love Association."
CACA has attended the United Nations' Human Rights Commission meeting in Geneva for the past three years. During the meeting, CACA has held anti-Falun Gong forums for local Chinese residents and students in France and Switzerland.
The overseas Chinese embassies' websites publish CACA's anti-Falun Gong propaganda.
The Chinese officials in religious fields and the leaders of the CACA, including Fu Tieshan and Sheng Hui, attacked Falun Gong and Falun Gong's founder when they visited other countries.
All of the above overseas' activities of the CACA were publicized by the Central CCP-controlled media, including the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, and CCTV. The media around the country then widely reprinted these reports, which became an important part of anti-Falun Gong propaganda.
VI. Conclusions
CACA's guiding principles, operations, and achievements all indicate that it is the main accomplice and executor of the Jiang regime's genocide of Falun Gong practitioners. With sufficient evidence, we suggest that the International Court indict CACA's leaders on the same basis as officials in the Propaganda Cultural Department among the Nazi war criminals and the three people in Rwanda who were convicted of inciting genocide through propaganda were indicted.

(Clearwisdom.net) According to the U.S. State Department spokesman Mr. Richard Boucher, the United States will introduce a resolution regarding China's human rights practices at the 2004 U.N. Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva, which began on March 15 and will conclude on April 23. On March 31, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners from Metropolitan Philadelphia held a press conference at the Liberty Bell Memorial Plaza in downtown to call upon members of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights to support this resolution and help China to improve its human rights situation. Practitioners also called for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong.
Western Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yvette Scarletts hosted the conference. She talked about the persecution of Falun Gong, and called for support of the U.N. resolution on China's human rights and for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong.
Several family members of the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and some who had personally suffered from the persecution spoke at the conference. Local practitioner Dr. Qiu Qingqing's younger sister Ms. Qiu Yanyan was unlawfully sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in a Chinese labor camp on March 26. Dr. Qiu Qingqing will fly to Geneva to attend the U.N. Commission on Human Rights meeting. She will testify to the persecution encountered by her sister and call for the release of her sister Qiu Yanyan.
On February 4, Qiu Yanyan was abducted at her workplace in Beijing, simply because of her practice of Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked and her Falun Gong books and audiotapes, computer, printer and passport were confiscated. Qiu Yanyan graduated from the prestigious Peking University. She can speak German, English and Urdu fluently. In her work, she disciplines herself well with Falun Dafa principles and seeks no fame or self-interest. Many times, she refused to accept improper payments and bonuses. She is well known in her work unit for her high professional skill and outstanding character. With her company's research teams, she went abroad many times to visit foreign companies. She has also financially supported a child from a poor family who could not afford to go to school.
Dr. Qiu Qingqing said that on March 26, the Police Sub-station of the Chaoyang District, Beijing sentenced Mr. Qiu Yanyan to two years and six months in a labor camp without any legal procedure. "My family was not informed about the sentence. My mother learned the news from other channels. My mother has not received any official notice up to present." Said Qiu Qingqing. "In China, many people know about the persecution of Falun Gong, but few know how severe the persecution is. Most people think that as long as practitioners practice Falun Gong at home, they would be fine. But the reality is, practitioners are arrested even if they practice or read Falun Gong books at home. The persecution is extremely cruel and far-reaching."
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Gang will also fly to Geneva to bear witness about the inhuman tortures the Jiang's regime has subjected Falun Gong practitioners to. Because of his practice of Falun Gong, his home was ransacked twice. He was also imprisoned in Beijing Tuanhe Labor Camp for 18 months, where he was brutally tortured. He was deprived of sleep for 15 days in a row. The jailers even tied up his hands and feet together and put him under a bed. The torture almost paralyzed him, and he was on the verge of mental collapse.
Philadelphia psychiatrist Yang Jingduan's elder sister Ms. Yang Jingfang was also illegally sentenced to 3 years in prison in China because of her practice of Falun Gong. So far, she has been imprisoned for 18 months. She was once tied up in a chair for 34 days in a row. According to Dr. Yang Jingduan, in August 2002, at the General Assembly of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) held in Yokohama, Japan, the WPA voted to send an international delegation of psychiatrists to Beijing, China on April 4 to investigate the government's alleged abuses of psychiatric diagnoses in its ongoing suppression of Falun Gong practitioners. However, the president of WPA received a letter from the President of Chinese Society of Psychiatrists and had to cancel the mission.
Philadelphia Daily News, KYW radio station, New Tang Dynasty TV, World Journal and Epoch Times came to the press conference. Many people expressed their sympathy after they heard about the brutality of the persecution. Seeing the persecuted practitioners and their family members helped to erase any doubts they had about the brutality of the persecution.
(Clearwisdom.net) Minghui reporter Kelley Huang reports from San Francisco -- The United Nations' Commission on Human Rights is currently holding its 60th session in Geneva. The inhuman persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang's group has drawn special attention from people throughout the world. On April 3, Falun Gong practitioners from Northern California and 16 organizations held a rally at the U.N. Plaza in San Francisco to support the resolution condemning China's human rights violations, which was proposed by the United States at the 2004 U.N. Commission on Human Rights meeting. They called for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong and appealed for the rescue of illegally imprisoned family members in China.
At the rally, Steve, a representative from the International Coalition against Persecution, urged all countries to support the resolution on China and demanded China to stop the persecution.
Steve pointed out that China's human rights record has been backsliding. Victims of the human rights violations included Falun Gong practitioners, religious believers, political dissenters and their family members. Among them, the persecution encountered by Falun Gong practitioners is the most severe. Since this year's session of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights started on March 15, more than a dozen Falun Gong practitioners were reported to have died from the persecution in China.
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shen Shumin, who was rescued from China and came to the U.S., spoke at the rally. She called upon people to uphold justice and work together to stop the persecution and rescue the imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners in China. She related her experiences in practicing Falun Gong and the miraculous benefit she received from the practice. Unfortunately, after the suppression began, her basic rights were severely trampled and she suffered from both physical and mental torture. Through rescue efforts from overseas fellow practitioners, the United Nations and the U.S. government, she came to the U.S and deeply felt the preciousness of regaining the freedom.
Falun Gong spokesperson Mr. Allen Zeng said that over the past more than four years of persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have never returned the same when they were beaten or abused. In face of the brutal persecution, they are not giving in; instead, they peacefully and persistently clarify the truth to people from all walks of life.
Mr. Zuo Geyun from the Jinshan Freedom Forum denounced the Chinese government's suppression and killing of Falun Gong practitioners and religious believers. He expressed his support to oppose the Chinese government's oppression of Falun Gong and human rights violations.
Sixteen organizations participated in the rally and cosigned a statement to be delivered to the United Nations, requesting the 53 members of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights to condemn China's human rights violations and help stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
(Clearwisdom.net April 2, 2004) I live in Bruchsal, a small city near Karlsruhe, where the offices of the German Federal Prosecutor are located. The lawsuit by German practitioners against Jiang Zemin and fifteen other Chinese officials involved in the persecution of Falun Gong was submitted to the German Federal Prosecutor in Karlsruhe.
Several weeks ago, a second assembly focusing on the lawsuit was organised there too. I used this opportunity to clarify the facts at a radio station in Bruchsal that had taken the initiative to report the lawsuit against Jiang when it was first submitted.
By chance, the hostess of the radio station had graduated from a Chinese college and one of her college classmates was a German Falun Gong practitioner. When she talked about her classmate, she praised his Chinese proficiency highly. Thanks to her classmate, she already had a positive understanding of Falun Gong. We talked for a long time, our topics ranging from the cultivation method of Falun Gong to the recent developments of the persecution in China.
Afterwards, she decided to produce a forty-five minute programme about Falun Gong to be broadcast several weeks later. The first part of the programme would introduce the cultivation method, the particular features of Falun Gong and its worldwide popularity, while the latter part of the programme would be about the persecution. In addition, the hostess planned to interview a German expert on the problems in China over the phone. Also, she borrowed the book Falun Gong to read.
So, several days ago, a practitioner from Karlsruhe and I went to the radio station. While we waited in the hall, we introduced Falun Gong to the receptionist, who took a deep interest. She asked us about the reason for the persecution. We did not get to talk about the persecution in detail before it was time to go into the broadcasting studio.
During the first twenty minutes of the broadcast, my fellow practitioner and I took turns introducing the origin and principles of Falun Gong, as well as how to go about learning the exercises. We discussed Falun Gong's spread around the world and also our own personal experiences and understanding of cultivation. Though we did not specifically arrange the content of our individual remarks, we coordinated well, complementing each other's comments. Therefore, the questions were answered well. In the following twenty minutes, the German expert on the situation in China objectively explained the reasons behind the suppression of Falun Gong in China. The explanation was quite positive, so we only needed to add a little extra information. At the end of the programme, the lawsuit against Jiang Zemin taking place in Germany was mentioned.
After the programme came to an end, we shook hands with the hostess, saying, "You did a good job!" "No, it was you who were terrific," she said. When we returned to the reception area, the receptionist pointed to a speaker on her desk, saying, "I heard all of what you said. It was interesting and very good!"

(Clearwisdom.net)
I am a female Falun Gong practitioner, and I am 52 years old this year. I started the practice in 1996. From July 20, 1999, when the persecution first began, to 2001, I was arrested seven times, and I lost two family members in those two years.
Before the nationwide manhunt began on July 19, 1999, my home telephone had already been monitored. I remember on July 15th, one of my fellow practitioners called me and we agreed to go to Quyang the next morning. Early the next day, at 4:00 a.m., right after I stepped out the door, a police car came into view. The assistant deputy in charge of the Dongfenglu Police Station, Cao Liang, accompanied by policeman Hao Wei, detained me. I insisted on leaving. Cao Liang reported to the police bureau head but finally let me go. When we got to the bus station, there was a policeman trying to stop us, but he didn't succeed. A police vehicle had followed us to Quyang, and plainclothes policemen even followed us to a fellow practitioner's home. On July 19 Cao Liang led others to ransack our home. They confiscated all the Falun Dafa books. The police arrested me in another province and detained me at the Baoding Detention Center. At the detention center, the person in charge of the Baoding Police Bureau threatened me: "If you don't leave Falun Gong, then you will be sent to a provincial jail."
The second time, after I was released from the detention center, I went to the police station to explain the facts about Falun Gong. Cao Liang asked me to write something. After it was done, he said: "Since you said Falun Gong is good, then you came here to practice." Then, without hesitation he sent me away to the detention center. After my husband took him out for dinner and sent him some gifts (as well as asked an influential person to help), I was finally released.
The third time I was arrested, I was writing letters to both national appealing bureaus in Beijing. At around 2:00 p.m. our iron entrance gate was knocked so hard that it created a frightening noise. After the door was opened, Cao rushed in and asked me what I was writing and to whom. Then he ordered me to give him the letters. After two days, the police informed me that I should go to the police station to pick up my son, who had gone to Beijing to appeal and was arrested and sent back. He was detained at the police station. My son was handcuffed in a spread-eagle position to the heating pipes for an entire night. During lunchtime, the police finally released him from the handcuffs after I asked over and over again. That night, both my son and I were sent to the detention center. Because my son and I were arrested at the same time, my mother fell ill due to excessive worry. After we were arrested, my husband suffered from cerebral hemorrhage, so no one was left to take care of my mother. The hospital issued a notification of my mother's critical situation. Three days after we were released, my mother passed away. After we buried my mother, the policeman who takes care of household registration came to our home and forced us to immediately change my son's residence from this city. The policeman said he couldn't stand the pressure from his supervisors.
The fourth time, I went to Beijing to appeal to the government. I was arrested at Tiananmen Square and sent to a detention center. My company was ordered to dismiss me. Because the management in my company considered that order to be not in compliance with the law, they refused. After three months, they handed over 5,000 Yuan (1) as a fine, plus a guarantee, and then I was released. After that, whenever a "sensitive day" comes, the local residence committee, residence office, and management of my company come to my home.
The fifth time I was arrested was during the time of China's National Congress Meeting of 2000. Police from the local station came to my home and took me to the detention enter.
The sixth time, I was sent to Yaoshan Brainwashing Center at Shunping City. The leader was a Political and Judicial Committee Secretary with the surname of Lu. They printed a "Guarantee Statement" (2) and requested family members who work at the same workplace as Falun Gong practitioners to sign. Whoever violates any one item on the guarantee statement receives a fine between 20,000 to 30,000 Yuan. At the brainwashing center, there was not enough food provided. However, everyone had to pay 35 Yuan for living expenses.
The seventh time, because I hung a Dafa banner along Dongfeng Road, I was sentenced to one-year in a forced-labor camp. During that period, I was forced to work over 10 hours every day. I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. In order to force me to give up cultivation, the jail policemen used criminals to force-feed me. While one person pulled my arms all the way back, another one pried open my mouth using a screwdriver to push up my upper jaw. They beat and kicked me. Later, even the criminal inmates couldn't stand seeing the way I was being treated. I was also forced to watch brainwashing videotapes. I was hit on the head by heavy books, punished by having to stand for a long time, and deprived of sleep for 6 days. After I had been standing for 10 days, my feet were so swollen that they couldn't fit into any shoes. In addition, I was slapped on the face, and my arms were twisted and kicked.
During my detention in the forced-labor camp, my father was alone. He talked to anyone that he encountered. As soon as he saw a policeman, he would ask that person to say good words for us at the forced-labor camp, and expressed his wishes to see me. After I was thrown into the forced-labor camp, he was hospitalized and was dying. My husband went to the forced-labor camp to try to get me to come back and visit my father, but the forced-labor camp wouldn't grant me any leave. Thus, my father passed away while I was imprisoned. After I was released from the forced-labor camp, my family was broken up--there were only my husband and me. My son couldn't go back home, and my daughter got married and went to another province far away during my detention.
My husband became very sensitive and fearful during the ever present persecution and torture of the past few years. If my neighbor knocked loudly at the door, he would awaken from a dream, and jump right off the bed, and say, "Quick, hide yourself! Quick, hide yourself!" This kind of mental anguish is beyond imagination. I hope that everyone around the world will come to know this persecution and stop it as soon as possible.
(1) Yuan: Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan.
(2) "Guarantee Statement": A statement declaring that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again to associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.
(Clearwisdom.net) On January 21, 2001, most people were busy getting ready for the Chinese New Year. However, that was not the experience of Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Lianzhi's family in Luannan County, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. Zhang was detained twice at the detention center for two months for upholding her belief, and she was detained in prison three times for more than seven months. Without going through any due legal process, on January 28, Jin Shumin from Luannan County Police Bureau, Political and Security Section, sent 11 Dafa practitioners, including Zhang, to Tangshan City Kaiping Forced Labor Camp. Meanwhile, almost 20 Dafa practitioners were arrested and detained at Luannan County Jail for going to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution.
Zhang has two daughters (the elder one is 18 years old, and the younger one is 12 years old). After their mother was arrested, nobody was taking care of them. Later, their father was arrested as well because he wrote a letter to Hou Zhiyu, the County Party Secretary, to clarify the facts. This letter stated: after practicing Falun Gong, my wife, who had been ill, was healed without having to receive any treatment. At the same time, both her mind and body have been improved. She took initiative to take on the most difficult work, and her performance has been reviewed as excellent for eight consecutive years. The practitioners that I have interacted with before are all good people. I ask you, please do not treat these innocent, good people like this.
Political and Judicial Committee Secretary Zhou Zuofu, Secretary Assistant Zhang Pinlong, "610 Office" (1) Manager Chen Ruishan, Police Station Deputy Chief Wang Huiling, and Political and Security Section Manager Jin Shumin forcefully arrested Zhang's husband and took him to the County Detention Center. They accused Zhang's husband of giving the leader pressure by writing that letter and speaking up for Falun Gong. Zhou asked Zhang's husband to pay a fine of 2000 yuan (2).
On January 23, Chinese New Year's Eve, most households were full of happiness and the aroma of delicious food. However, these two children were in their cold home, alone. They waited and waited, and looked forward to their father's return so that he could cook them a dinner on Chinese New Year's Eve. They were left wondering why people as good as their parents were sent to jail.
Kindhearted people, please help these two sisters, and help tens of thousands of families who were ruined by persecution simply because their family members upheld their belief.
(1) "610 Office": a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Wensheng and his father Mr. Li Hai from Haogezhuang Town, Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, were both tortured by Wang Xinjun, secretary of the Politics and Law Committee, Li Fengchun, director of the police station, Zhao Xinjun, section head of the police substation; someone known only as Zhu (last name); and Guo Fangming, secretary of the village. Li Hai died on December 23, 2002, as a result of the torture he received.
Now, we will expose the facts of the crimes committed by the authorities in Haogezhuang Town.
These officials had already monitored and harassed Li Wensheng prior to July 20, 1999 [date that Falun Gong was banned in China, although it had been supported by the Government for many years previously]. After July 20, as Jiang Zemin issued the secret order to "ruin [Falun Gong practitioners'] their reputations, bankrupt them financially and destroy them physically," the authorities became even more unrestrained.
On July 20, 1999, Li Wensheng wanted to go to Beijing to explain the facts about Falun Gong to the government, but someone reported him. On July 21, the authorities arrested him in Weifang City and brought him to Songjiazhuang Village, Haogezhuang Town, and later transferred him to Xiling, Haogezhuang Town (the detention site was formerly a high school). More than a dozen people monitored him, not allowing him to sleep for several days and nights in a row; forcing him to stand under the burning summer sun for prolonged periods and forcing Li Wensheng to hold a position of a military parade step. To hold this position Li was required to keep one foot on the ground and lift the other foot forward at a 45-degree angle. Then a brick was placed on his lifted foot's toes and he had to endure while standing in this pose for extended periods. If he lowered his foot, the guards watching him would beat him. Once he could not hold the pose and lowered his foot. Policeman Wang Hua then used the brick to smash his foot violently and beat his legs with a wooden club. His toes were injured and bleeding, and his foot swelled up. Walking after that was extremely painful for him.
On December 22, 1999, Li Wensheng traveled to the town government to explain the facts about Falun Gong directly to the people there. The next morning , policemen Li Fengchun, Wang Hua and Zhou Jianbo dragged Li Wensheng by the hair from his home and took him to the police station without any proper legal procedure. Inside the vehicle, policeman Li Fengchun cursed him and at the same time struck his face with the car brush. Once at the station, the policemen forced him to remove his clothes and then blindfolded him. He was forced to the ground and 4 or 5 policemen stood on his arms and legs to keep him down. Policeman Li Fengchun used two electric batons to shock him for a long time. The policeman shocked his back, neck, and head. After he finished, policeman Li Fengchun poured cold water onto Li Wensheng's neck to revive him and cuffed his hands onto the cement pole in the yard. Li Wensheng only wore thin underclothes and was forced to remain outside in the freezing cold for 5-6 hours until the sun came up.
On December 24, these policemen shocked Li Wensheng using electric batons again and beat him up using rubber clubs. In the afternoon, the policemen forced him to run laps in the courtyard of the police station. Because the policemen had beaten his feet and legs, it was already very difficult for him to walk, but policeman Wei Lihua used the rubber club to beat him in order to make him run faster. The beating he received resulted in painful bruises all over his body.
In the summer of 2000, policemen Li Fengchun and Zhou Jianbo brought Li Wensheng to the police station because he declared to the town government officials that he would not renounce his belief and would continue to practice Falun Gong. The policemen forced him to take off his shirt and pants, leaving him with only his underwear. With 4 or 5 policemen standing on his arms and legs to keep him down, Li Fengchun and Wei Lihua shocked him with the electric batons for a long time. After being tortured in this manner, Wei Lihua, Zhang Chongguang, Zhou Jianbo, Zheng Deming and other policemen took turns beating him for more than one hour, causing his body to turn a livid purple color.
They detained Li Wensheng in Xiaozhuanggou Village for more than ten days. During this time, Li Wensheng was controlled and followed by the policemen. He was forced to walk many miles to the police station wearing handcuffs . He had to keep moving in 30 C temperatures and was not allowed to rest. Sometimes he was forced to stand with his hands cuffed to the steam heating pipes in the on-duty room of the police station. One day at noon, policemen Zhang Tonguing and Weir Lihue took turns beating him, and they did not stop until Li Washing began to vomit blood. Another day, Zhu and policeman Zhen Deming threw a bucket of water into the room where he was detained, forced him to stand facing the wall and took turns beating him. There were several nights when Guo Fangming, secretary of the village, cuffed him to the bed and did not allow him to sleep. One night, Guo Fangming and Guo Fangxue cuffed him to a tree. Then they stripped off his shirt and unbuttoned his pants so the swarms of mosquitoes could bite him. They also forced him to give them grain and cattle from his farm.
Later, they transferred Li Wensheng to Hanjiagou Village and detained him in a school for more than ten days. Every day, the policeman monitored him, followed him and deprived him of sleep. When he did sleep it was on the cement floor. During that time, policemen Wei Lihua, Zheng Deming and Zhu, abused, intimidated, threatened and beat him.
After that, Li Wensheng was moved to the compound of the Dechuan Brigade for more than ten days and supervised by their policeman. During the daytime, he wore handcuffs and was forced to walk many miles to the police station to work. At noontime he was forced to stand still. Policeman Wei Lihua often beat and shocked him using electric batons. At night, he was cuffed to the wall or a chair at the entrance of the on-duty room. Sometimes, he was cuffed to the ground outside the entrance to the restroom. The policeman on duty declared, "The town officials demand that we only use violence."
During the time Li Wensheng was detained, his father Li Hai was often abused, intimidated and threatened by Wang Xinjun, Zhu, Guo Fangxue, Guo Fangming, policemen Li Fengchun, Wei Lihua, Zhou Jianbo, and others. Li Wensheng's father had his legs seriously injured when he was hit by a carriage while traveling to bring food to Li Wensheng, but the police still did not let him alone. Later, the police illegally extorted 1,400 yuan [500 yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] from his family and took possession of the certificate of ownership for his house as security before they released his son.
In October 2000, Li Wensheng went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested by Wang Xinjun, Guo Fangxue, Policemen Zhou Jianbo and Wang Hua in Tiananmen Square. He was brought to the Weifang City Liaison Office in Beijing. In front of the office building, policeman Wang Hua beat him up with a one-meter-long wooden club that broke during the beating because the policeman hit him so hard. On the same day, policemen Zhou Jianbo and Guo Fangxue handcuffed him and detained him in Haogezhuang Town police station. Li Wensheng was cuffed in a room in the backyard of the police station that night. The next day, policeman Li Chunfeng had policemen Zhang Chongguang and Guo Fangming handcuff Li Wensheng, and they took turns beating him with rubber clubs for a long time. This time, his whole body turned purple-black from the beating, his hips were swollen and he could not sit or stand for more than ten days. In the afternoon of the same day, he was brought to the Politics and Security Brigade of Zhucheng City Public Security Bureau. Policeman Cao Jinhui slapped him in face very hard several times and then detained him for one month.
After the term expired, Li Wensheng was brought to a room in the Haogezhuang police station and was detained there. Every village took turns sending people to watch him. After one month of detention, he was sentenced to 3 years of forced labor on December 5 and was detained in Changle Forced Labor Camp in Weifang City. He suffered much persecution in the forced labor camp, which is detailed below.
On December 5, 2000, policeman Han Huiyue, head of the No.2 Squad of the No.2 Brigade organized the prisoners to cruelly persecute determined Falun Dafa practitioners. In the most severe winter weather, seventeen prisoners, including Liu Chunxiang and Xu Wenzi, stripped off Li Wensheng's clothing. In the restroom, two prisoners took turns continuously spraying and pouring water over his head, mouth and nostrils for a long time, causing him to have difficulty breathing and almost suffocating him.
After torturing him using water, the prisoners forced him to lie on the ground, and then lifted his shirt and took off his pants so that his back and upper legs were exposed. Several prisoners stood on his arms and legs to keep him down. Zhang Jintao used a leather whip and beat him viciously from his lower back to his lower legs until the skin was lacerated and bleeding. After the beating, they forced him to go to restroom, take off his clothes, and take a cold shower. At that time the forced labor camp was processing garlic, so the prisoners took water from the vat that was used to soak garlic and poured it over his head and used water hoses to spray water into his mouth and nose.
In a room of the No.2 Subdivision of No.2 Brigade, these prisoners took turns beating Li Wensheng up. Most of them grabbed his shoulders and jammed their knees into his chest. They beat him until he was half dead and almost suffocated. At that time, he could not even speak clearly and when he used the restroom, his stool and urine had blood in it. After this beating he felt extreme pain all over his body.
At night when the prisoners went to sleep, they forced Li Wensheng to sleep in the upper berth of the bunk. Due to his injuries, he could not climb up. The prisoners then beat his lower back and hips with a small chair until he climbed up. The resulting cuts on his hips bled for a long time.
While Li Wensheng was being cruelly persecuted by the police, his father Li Hai also suffered both mentally and physically.
Under the orders of Wang Xinjun from Haoge Town, policemen Li Fengchun, Wang Hua, Zhang Chongguang, Wei Lihua, Zhao (section head of the police substation), Guo Fangming from Jixiaozhuanggou Village and Guo Fangxue tried to force Li Hai to renounce his belief in Falun Gong. On July 22, 1999, they arrested him and took him to Jiaojiazhuangzi Village. There they viciously beat, abused and physically punished him. They also forced him to criticize himself and defame Falun Dafa on TV. This devastated him both physically and mentally.
In the summer of 2000, because his son Li Wensheng went to the town government to clarify the truth and was detained for more than 40 days, he had to travel back and forth for dozens of miles every day to bring food to his son. At the same time he had to do his farm work. During that time, the authorities also threatened and abused him. Because he was greatly hurt both physically and mentally and was too exhausted to pay attention, he was hit by a carriage while traveling to bring food to his son. His legs were seriously injured; his knees bled and he could not walk for more than ten days. Even so, the authorities still did not leave him alone. Wang Xinjun had Zhu, Guo Fangxue and Guo Fangming forced him to give them money for the release of his son. To do this he had borrow money from everywhere. With the help of kindhearted people, he scraped together 1,400 yuan.
In October 2000, his son and his wife went to Beijing to appeal and both of them were detained. Wang Xinjun and others persecuted Wang Hai even more unscrupulously. Zhao, Zhu, Guo Fangxue, Guo Fangming and others went to his home every day to ask for money, threatening and abusing him to pay it. Sometimes, they took him to the police station to abuse and beat him. They also sent people specifically to watch him, follow him, and also try to drive him away from his home. The authorities stole all of his yearly income; a total of about 4,000 yuan. After his son had been home for a while, Wang Xinjun and others detained his son again for more than 40 days. He then had to bring food to his son again.
Under such cruel persecution, Li Hai often became disoriented and even wanted to commit suicide. But the authorities still would not let him alone. One time, under orders from Guo Fangming and Guo Fangxue, policeman Li Fengchun used an iron pot to hit his head very hard. After this, Li Hai became even more absentminded and was unable take good care of himself. He had no strength to work and was scared when he saw policeman or police vehicles. His legs atrophied, and his health got worse. A bump often appeared on the injured part of his legs that was more than 20-cm long. He felt excruciating pain in his upper body and he would occasionally spit up blood. Sometimes the pain was so great that he would fall to the ground, unable to get up. He died on December 23, 2002 after two extremely painful years of trying to endure the persecution.
March 15, 2004
(Clearwisdom.net) On March 14, 2004, Zhao Qingzhe and other police officers from the Taishan Police Station of the Liaohe Oil Field Police Department shot at Falun Dafa practitioner Zheng Qunpeng while chasing him. Mr. Zheng, forty years of age, worked at Motor Equipment Co., a subsidiary of the Physical Exploration Inc. of the Liaohe Oil Field. His belief in Falun Dafa turned him from a person who frequently fought with others into a good citizen who followed the Falun Dafa principles of Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance. Because of his refusal to give up his belief in Falun Dafa, the Party Secretary from his company and the officers from Taishan Police Station attempted, at the end of 2003, to abduct him to the brainwashing center in Fushun City, Liaoning Province. That plan failed in the end. A few days ago, a few organizations of the Liaohe Oil Field such as Shuguang Oil Extraction Plant, Yulou Vocational School, and the No.2 Company of Well Drilling, together with the local police, started another round of abducting Falun Gong practitioners to Fushun Brainwashing Center.
At around 5:20 am, March 14, 2004, Mr. Zheng and his colleagues were on their way to work when somebody ordered them to stop in front of the traffic booth near the Geology and Mining Bureau of Panjin City. Turning back, they saw a black car, which is not a police car. Without knowing what was going on, they continued to walk. Suddenly, three people jumped out of the car and ran after Zheng as the car pulled over to their left.
Afraid of being abducted, Zheng Qunpeng ran toward the Jinxiang residential area, when a man in his fifties who was wearing eyeglasses, grabbed onto his clothes from the side and attempted to stop him. (The man was later confirmed to be a police officer from Taishan Police Station, whose name is Ding Donglin.)
Zheng managed to break free and continued to run. Ding fell down after failing to catch Zheng. While Zheng was running, he heard two gunshots from behind. Another gunshot was heard, which hit the ground right next to him. According to the witnesses, Zhao Qingzhe, also a policeman at Taishan Police Station, aimed right at Zheng and tried to shoot him down. All three gunshots were aimed directly at practitioner Zheng, rather than in the sky as a warning. Fortunately, officer Zhao missed his target.
Practitioner Zheng was finally caught when he reached the residential area. Officer Zhao continued to shout, "Let me break his legs!" Practitioner Zheng asked them, "Why do you arrest me?" Nobody responded. Practitioner Zheng then asked again. "Do you dare to tell me your names?" Officer Zhao answered, "I am Zhao Qingzhe." The other guy dared not to even tell his name. During the chase, a colleague of practitioner Zheng's, Mr. A, was so frightened that he quickly rode away on his bicycle. When another colleague of Zheng's, Mr. B, also got caught, he shouted angrily at the policemen, "You bandits! How dare you shoot at people at will! We were on our way to work. What's so wrong with us?" Because officer Ding used to be Mr. B's co-worker, Ding released Mr. B after his protest.
In the past, officer Zhao Qingzhe had committed a lot of crimes. In August of 2003, he abducted Dafa practitioner Mr. Yin Baowen, a worker at the Physical Exploration Company, and forced him into the Fushun brainwashing center. He unlawfully handcuffed Yin and harshly beat him until Yin lost control of his bladder and bowels
To expose the police's illegal violence and to prevent shootings from happening again, practitioner Zheng shouted as he was being handcuffed, "Zhao Qingzhe shot at me! He wants to break my legs!" Zhao started beating him with the help of the other unnamed accomplice. Soon, more policemen came to beat him. One of them removed Zheng's belt and attempted to use it to tie up his legs, while another person forcefully pressed his arms against Zheng's neck. Zheng could hardly breathe as each policeman took turns hitting his head, eyes, chest, back, and legs. His left eye became darkened. His right temple swelled up two centimeter high. His back was so painful that he could not stand straight, and his chest hurt so much that it hurt just to breathe.
With dozens of onlookers around, one of the officers shouted, "Open the trunk. Toss him in!" Holding the handcuff on Zheng's wrists, one guy dragged him for about a dozen meters (forty feet). The handcuff cut into Zheng's flesh. With both of his hands heavily bruised and in tremendous pain, Zheng was gradually losing consciousness. They then lifted Zheng and tried to toss him into the trunk. Struggling to avoid being suffocated in the trunk, Zheng pressed his left foot against the car. They quickly tied up his left leg while officer Zhao shocked practitioner Zheng's left leg with his electric baton. Finally, Zheng was tossed into the trunk and it was locked.
As soon as the car arrived at the local police station, officer Zhao forcefully pulled down Zheng's head while others were lifting him to the second floor. Claiming practitioner Zheng was not obeying, officer Zhao instructed others to tie up Zheng's feet and legs. Under the endless torture, practitioner Zheng became unconscious. With his back, chest, left leg painfully hurt, his hands darkened from bruises, swollen and numb, Zheng asked the policemen to unlock his handcuffs. His request was denied. Until then, the authorities had not revealed their identities or explained the reason for abducting him.
Finally, Wang Youshan, from the National Security Brigade of the Liaohe Police Department, came to interrogate Zheng. Apparently, realizing how absurd this was, Wang simply threatened him for a while and left. The officers in the local police station also threatened him and claimed, "We could sentence you and send you to a labor camp because you attacked police officers and shouted 'Falun Dafa is great'. If you don't tell anyone about this (the abduction, shooting, and beatings), we'll let you go." (Note: Ding tripped while attempting to abduct practitioner Zheng. Instead, they accused Zheng of 'attacking police officers'.)
Zheng's wife helped him leave the police station and walk home. He could hardly stand and coughed for over half an hour in the bathroom. Zheng is now bed ridden, wracked by coughs and pain all over his body.

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, Clearwisdom published the kidnapping incident concerning Ms. Yu Yingzhang (National exemplary teacher in Shandong Province Zaozhuang School for blind and mute children) and her son Zhang Peng. The local officials were shocked when they learned their crime had been exposed and published on the Internet. However, they did not repent their wrongdoings. Instead, they started to mass arrest Dafa practitioners. Plainclothes police appeared everywhere. They have now detained several more practitioners in the Zaozhuang Detention Center.
The corrupt police received many phone calls from overseas practitioners asking them to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, and they also read the article posted on Clearwisdom about the persecution Yu Yingzhang and her son suffered. The local authorities were both shocked and scared that their crimes were exposed. In order to retaliate against those responsible for exposing their crimes, the police tried hard to find out who leaked the information. Several more practitioners have been arrested, including Mr. Niu and Ms. Zhang Jingju. They also sent three practitioners to a brainwashing center.
Mr. Zhang Peng has been detained for over 30 days since his arrest on February 4, 2004. After his father was forced to pay 5000 yuan as bail [500 yuan is the average monthly salary for an urban worker in China] the police transferred him to a brainwashing center. They also forced his father to accompany Zhang Peng for a month in order to try and make him give up his belief. When they saw that Zhang Peng kept silent and refused to eat or drink, they realized that he was not going to renounce his faith. So on March 5, 2004, they sent him to the Zaozhuang Mental Hospital to torture him further.
Zhang Peng's mother, Yu Yingzhang, is still detained at Zaozhuang No.2 Detention Center. Because she refused to renounce her belief, the police plan to send her to a brainwashing program for intensified torture.
Zhang Peng got a university degree in 1999, and was assigned to work at Zaozhuang Teachers' College. Because of his belief in Falun Gong, the school did not allow him to begin his employment there. Instead, they gave him only a mere 200 yuan per month as a living allowance. Recently the school principal said, "So he still practices [Falun Gong]. Let's stop his 200 yuan allowance, we'll see if he still practices." Both Zhang Peng and Yu Yingzhang's employers are under Zaozhuang's Education Commission. The commission's leading person for persecuting Falun Gong, Li Huaijin, recently agreed to suspend Yu Yingzhang's salary to force her to stop practicing Falun Dafa.
Yu Yingzhang and her son Zhang Peng's house was illegally searched by police three times. The first time was in July 2000. The police confiscated a computer from their house. They sentenced Zhang Peng to a two-year forced labor term and stopped paying his salary, causing him more than 20,000 yuan in direct financial losses.

The second raid happened at noon, April 30, 2001. The police seized Falun Gong books, audio-tapes and video-tapes. Police officer Zhou from the Kekou Police Station was the main person responsible.
On February 11, 2004, their house was raided for the third time. This time the police seized Falun Gong books, Master Li's pictures, a printer, a scanner and other equipment, packing everything in three cartons.
Responsible parties: Di Hao from Shizhong branch of Zaozhuang Police Department, Kong and Zong from the local police station and Li and Wang from the neighborhood committee. There were 12 people involved altogether.
Another practitioner being held in the brainwashing center is Sun Zhonghua. He was just released in February 2004 from a forced labor camp after completing a two-year term there. Mr. Sun was a lecturer at Zaozhuang Teachers' College. The police arrested him while he was teaching his class in front of his students.
The more relentless, the corrupt police become, the more it shows how scared and desperate they actually are. We appeal to all fellow practitioners who happen to read this article to send forth righteous thoughts to help Zhang Peng and his mother, and to eliminate all the evil elements in Zaozhuang area, especially in the brainwashing class.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the evening of March 17, 2004, Inner Mongolia Tongliao City Dafa practitioners Li Yinjie, his wife Wang Shuyan, and his sixteen-year old daughter Li Chaojun were arrested when they were passing out Falun Gong truth-clarification material. Li Yinjie is still being detained. Around 11:00 p.m., policeman Shao Jun led people to ransack the family's house. In the evening, the "610 Office"(1) released the daughter. Wang Shuyan escaped with her righteous thoughts though she was handcuffed behind her back.
Li Yinjie is 43 years old and he is 1.85 meters [around 6 ft.] in height. He is always kind to others. It is well known to his neighbors and relatives that he is a good husband. He works in Tongliao City Prison and is an exemplary policeman there. Before he practiced Falun Gong, he got angry easily at work and the inmates were afraid of him. Since he started to practice Falun Dafa, he has never hit or cursed or physically punished the inmates. He has not accepted any money or gifts from the inmates either. He always uses reason to handle others. The inmates and his colleagues all speak highly of him. Seeing Li's behavior, many inmates have changed their wrong perception of Dafa. There are also several inmates who attained the Fa after they were released from prison.
Li's wife has now been forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. Only their sixteen-year old daughter is left at home.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Yanxiu was arrested and detained because he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa on January 1, 2001. Xiao Zhong, the Political and Law Committee Secretary of Buyunqiao Town, Qidong County, Hunan Province, heard about his going to Beijing. On January 4, he led more than a dozen people, including Village Security personnel, Zheng Aimin, Li Menggui and Village Party Secretary Chen Fuyuan, to Mr. Li's home. They broke down the front door and stole more than a thousand pounds of rice. They also grabbed other household items such as a gas stove, a fan, a sewing machine, tables and stools and more.
On May 10, 2000, because of distributing truth-clarification flyers, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zen Fanchun was arrested by Zheng Aimin, the chief officer of the Buyunqiao Police Station in Qidong County. Zheng Aimin lied to the surrounding people, saying, "Zen Fanchun prints anti-revolutionary flyers." When Mr. Zen's father, sister-in-law and wife came to the police station to bring food to him, they saw that Zheng Aimin was about to move a few Dafa practitioners to the county detention center. Mr. Zen's family members approached and argued with Zheng Aimin, who then ordered the police to shut the door. Mr. Zen's father was thrown to the floor and badly beaten. The Falun Dafa practitioners who were to be relocated went up to stop the beating and were hit as well. Mr. Zen's sister-in-law and wife experienced the same abuse.
On July 20, 2000, Dafa practitioner Ms. Tan Jingrong went to Beijing to appeal and was detained at a forced labor camp in Tianjin City. A female team leader named Wang persuaded criminals to torture Ms. Tan. They beat her with their fists and boots, pulled her hair, handcuffed her arms behind her back and force-fed her, and kept her standing for 27 hours as punishment. After 20 days of being on a hunger strike, Tan Jingrong was transferred to Qidong for detention and suffered continuously there. County police officer Li Wei used a 2-inch-wide by 39-inch long bamboo stick to hit her palms and ankles after forcing her to kneel on the floor. Ms. Tan was beaten black and blue over her entire body and had to hop on one foot to walk. Police officer He Zengrong slapped her roughly.
Tan Jingrong protested with a hunger strike in the Qidong Detention Center. Policemen Liu Zhengtian, Zhang Wanli, Zhou Youzhong and Zhou Daosheng dragged her out of bed (she was wearing only underwear and it was very cold), and bound her with rope in a spread eagle position. They used a towel to cover her nose and used chopsticks to pry open her mouth. Then they poured one liter of extremely salty water into Ms. Tan's mouth. Her mouth was bleeding terribly. After more than 10 months in detention, the Buyunqiao "610 Office," (1) headed by Zen Xiangshen, extorted 1,400 yuan from her family and finally let her go home.
While Tan Jingrong was detained in Tianjin, officer Deng Deyong of the Buyunqiao Town Court led a security group to her home to extort money and property. Her husband did not dare to go home. They broke their wooden floor and said that it didn't matter at all if the government killed a few people. They often went to her parents' home and threatened to take her brother away.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of March 12, Friday, Canadian attorneys Mr. David Matas and Lawrence Greenspon represented their client, Canadian citizen and Professor of Art, Zhang Kunlun to formally file a criminal lawsuit against Jiang Zemin and those who participated in the persecution of Falun Gong to the Canadian Justice Minister, Mr. Irwin Cotler. In the press conference that afternoon, Mr. Zhang and his attorneys publicized the attorneys' letter to the Justice Minister. Canadian MP Scott Reid wrote to Minister of Justice Irwin Cotler to encourage Canada to say "Yes" in the prosecution of those individuals, including former Chinese chairman Jiang Zemin, who inflicted torture on Professor Zhang in China. Below is the letter to Minister Cotler.
March 16th 2004
Hon. Irwin Cotler
Room 900, Justice Building
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A6
Dear Minister,
I am writing to you in the hopes that this may encourage Canada to say "Yes" in the prosecution of those individuals, including former Chinese chairman Jiang Zemin, who inflicted torture on Canadian citizen and art Professor, Kunlun Zhang in China.
In China in 2000-2001, Kunlun Zhang, who has been illegally arrested four times for practicing Falun Gong, suffered both mental and physical torture including repeated electric shocks, isolation and loss of all freedom, continuous and severe brainwashing, and deceitful manipulation.
With the help of many Canadians and NGOs such as Amnesty International, Professor Zhang was released and was safely returned to Canada on January 16th, 2001.
The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and the suppression of their moral and spiritual belief of "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance" ordered by Jiang Zemin has escalated for over four and a half years. This systematic eradication of Falun Gong through hate incitement, economic devastation, torture and killing constitutes serious crimes against humanity and conscience.
In China the judiciary is not able to provide legal redress to Falun Gong practitioners; instead the judicial system is itself an integral instrument in the campaign to eradicate Falun Gong.
Your consent would be an important contribution in demonstrating Canada's commitment to human rights and would facilitate the successful prosecution of the torturers of a Canadian citizen according to the rule of law in Canada. Your support would help get the message across that there is a price to pay for committing such atrocious crimes against humanity.
Yours sincerely,
Scott Reid, MP

Re: Kunlun Zhang
Dear Mr. Matas and Mr. Greenspon:
I regret that I cannot attend the press conference due to previous commitments. I want to strongly support your request to Minister Cotler to obtain consent for a private prosecution for torture under section 269.1 of the Criminal Code for Kunlun Zhang. Support for Falun Gong observers to conduct their practices peacefully should not go unnoticed by Canada for the many reasons that you have stated in your letter dated March 12, 2004.
I hope that Minister Cotler will consent as requested.
Yours truly,
The Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuck

(Clearwisdom.net April 2, 2004) In the last two months, several Lords and MPs have raised questions in the UK parliament about China's worsening human rights record. For example, as recorded in the House of Commons Hansard of the 25th of March 2004, Column 351WH, Mr. Ian Stewart, MP, made the following remarks:
'Within any democratic civil society we expect respect for human rights, religious tolerance and toleration of diversity. I must raise two issues that I hope that the Chinese Government will act on. First, there is the issue of the Falun Gong, an organisation that was declared illegal by the Chinese authorities in 1999. A constituent of mine, Mr. Terence Shanahan, is an active member of the Falun Gong UK. He is a powerful advocate for the stated Falun Gong ideals of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance. I take no view on the nature of Falun Gong, but I am concerned about repeated reports of human rights abuses against its followers. In turn, I make no judgment about the obvious concerns that the People's Republic has about the organisation. However, I urge the People's Republic to exercise tolerance in relation to organisations such as Falun Gong. Any organisation should quite properly be established within the rule of law and any abuse by members of an organisation would be punishable within that rule of law."
In reply, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Mr. Bill Rammell, said, "...we urge that the rights of Falun Gong adherents be respected."
Another example, of the continuing concern regarding human rights abuses in China, was expressed by Mr. Wilkinson in the Commons Hansard of 5th March 2004:
"... As people of a democracy, we believe in the right of people to exercise their religious faith, whatever it may be... for example, the Falun Gong movement should be permitted in the PRC. We hold such fundamental freedoms dear, not only in this country but in Europe as a whole."

The International Conference on "Genocide in the New Era", organised by "Friends of Falun Gong Europe" and "International Advocates for Justice", took place in Sweden's capital, Stockholm from January 26th to January 28th 2004. This is one of the conference speeches by Lei Yin, Communication Director of the Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners, which was delivered on January the 26th.
Ladies and Gentlemen:
It's my great honour to have this opportunity to present at this conference on behalf of the Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners (GMR). For those who are not quite familiar with GMR, this is an international non-profit human rights organization that was established in November 2002 by several constituent groups from 16 countries. This includes family members and friends of persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, as well as people who are concerned about the human right violations towards Falun Gong practitioners in China.
The core mission of GMR is to "call for conscience, moral courage and actions for justice". In particular, we are committed to raising awareness of the genocide, genocide of conscience and brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China; and we strive to rescue all the Falun Gong practitioners that are persecuted and tortured in jails, labour camps, mental hospitals, and detention centres. Last but not least, we will initiate, coordinate, and support any efforts of the international community that help to end the persecution and bring the persecutors to justice internationally and in China.
GMR has been broadly recognized and supported by many governments and human rights organizations since it was formed. So far, GMR has established connections with the United Nations Human Rights Committee, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many other non-governmental organizations around the world.
To date, GMR has initiated and coordinated several dozen large scale rescue campaigns globally, such as the North America Coast-to-Coast Drive to Rescue Americans and Families Tortured in China, the US National Rescue Drive for Dr. Charles Lee, the Rescue Yoko Kaneko Campaign in Japan, the Signature Collection of 100,000 people in Canada, and the Rescue Our Family Members Bicycle Tour in Canada, to name a few. Because of these global efforts, over 30 Falun Gong practitioners who have family members overseas have been released so far, including Ms. Cuiying Zhang in Australia, Mr. Shenli Lin in Canada, Ms. Yuzhi Wang in Canada, Ms. Yoko Kaneko in Japan, Mr. Rongyuan Chen in Hong Kong and many others.
The persecution of Falun Gong and its practitioners in the past four and a half years is the largest genocide committed by a single government since World War II. As there were 70 to 100 million Falun Gong practitioners in China prior to the persecution, this means that 1 out of every 12 Chinese citizens is directly suffering in the policy of "defaming their reputation, exhausting their resources and eliminating their physical bodies". However, if we also take all the family members, relatives, and friends into consideration, the number of victims in this persecution becomes even more shocking
According to incomplete statistics compiled by GMR, just in the past one year alone, over 12,947 cases (including those detained in camps/jails/mental institutions, arrested at home, forced to be homeless and tortured to death) from all occupations have been revealed on Falun Gong's Minghui website (www.minghui.org). This is precious information that was revealed by practitioners, their families and friends in China who are risking their lives. Nevertheless, this is only a very small tip of a huge iceberg of information that could be passed through the iron wall of the Chinese Government's information blockade!
The current persecution in China matches all the definitions of Genocide in the present Convention. According to the "law in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide Article II", "Genocide" means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group: Over 881 Falun Gong practitioners confirmed to be persecuted to death
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group: Massive brainwashing and brutal torture which leads to handicap and mental breakdown
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part: Torture which leads to handicap and even to death
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group Forced abortion
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group: Young practitioners are discharged from elementary and middle schools or rejected from higher education because they do not renounce their belief in Falun Gong
However, the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China goes far beyond "Genocide" in the normal sense. We describe the nature of this kind of crime as a "Genocide of conscience" or "Ethocide".
Instead of destroying the physical body directly, the persecutors in China created "Transformation" -- a vicious way to smother and murder humanity. As you will hear the testimonies from Mr. Zhao Ming and many others in this conference, the Falun Gong practitioners have been forced by brainwashing, torturing and the injection of damaging medicine to the central nervous system... to renounce, then slander their belief in the principles of Falun Gong --"Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance", and eventually some could even "transformed" to be a "living corpse" (a living physical body with conscience and dignity dead) to help violently convert former fellow practitioners. During this process, practitioners' conscience and dignity of humanity would be completely ruined by the persecutors and by themselves. The suffering and unforgettable pain in a person's soul would hurt to death from an intact yet conscious normal human being's perspective. This is undoubtedly the evilest way of persecution (genocide) in human history.
More severely, the whole population of China has been forced by lies, violence and threats, and lured by any interests to give up and betray their conscience and principles of justice. As a result, they keep silent or support this brutal persecution against their own will, or even commit crimes in the persecution. Every single person in the country, from the Premier of the Government to the elementary school pupils, has been forced to lie and support the persecution against Falun Gong. The damage to the conscience, moral values and spirit of the nation and the people is incalculable.
The same thing has also been happening in the free world. Western governments, companies and organizations have been forced to keep silent in front of the persecution of Falun Gong or even betray their conscience and moral values by mistreating practitioners. To give you some examples, the Iceland "blacklist" incident, the mistreatment of Falun Gong practitioners by German police, Yahoo's agreement with the information blockade in China, and the Mary Kay incident revealed recently; these all demonstrated the severe negative effects of the lies and luring from this regime.
Taken together, we believe the national crime happening in China is a new type of genocide -- "Genocide of Conscience" or "Ethocide".
Again, I'd like to call your attention to the severity of this ongoing persecution to Falun Gong and its practitioners. We, GMR, are looking forward to collaborating with all the NGOs and human right lawyers present here today. We believe every effort counts. Let's work together to stop the evilest genocide in human history and bring the persecutors to justice internationally and in China.
Dr. Lei Yin is the Communication Director of Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners (GMR), an international non-profit human rights organization, which is consists of family members and friends of persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, as well as people and organizations that are concerned about the human rights violations towards Falun Gong Practitioners in China. The main aim of GMR is to raise awareness of the genocide, genocide of conscience and brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China and to rescue those persecuted and tortured in jails, labour camps, mental hospitals and detention centres.
Dr. Lei Yin received his B.S. in Biological Science from Beijing University. After obtaining his Ph. D. in Microbiology and Molecular Immunology from SUNY at Buffalo, he also earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. He is currently a marketing professional for a large pharmaceutical company.

(Clearwsidom.net) Falun Gong has always been taught for free at practice sites that are now in over 60 countries around the world. Falun Gong is often practiced outdoors and this has allowed many people to learn more about the practice. Here are some short stories of how people discovered Falun Gong.
Madrid, Spain
There was one lady from Venezuela who came and stood transfixed watching the exercise practice at a site in Madrid. When practitioners gave her a leaflet, she said: 'I don't need a leaflet; this is definitely what I want.' In fact, she said two days ago she had a dream and in the dream she kept repeating some movements and heard a voice telling her, 'This is just what you have been looking for over thousands of years.' At that time, she did not know what it actually meant until today when she passed by our practice site and saw practitioners doing the same movements she did in her dream. Soon after, she started to learn Falun Dafa's movements. One week later, she also brought her husband and daughter to the exercise class.
Paris, France
One day, a lady from Peru came to the Paris Falun Gong exercise site to learn the movements. As soon as she came out of the underground, she started to run because she did not want to be late. At once, she heard a voice in her mind: 'Don't run, don't worry: you have already discovered the thing you have always been waiting for.' When she arrived at the exercise class, she told everyone her amazing experience; her eyes were filled with tears.
Santiago, Chile
A 14-year old student who lives near the Santiago practice site, once looked up the phrase 'sitting in meditation' on the Internet and found Falun Dafa's website. He then discovered the movements showed in the pictures on the web were exactly the same as the people at a practice site outside his house were doing. He soon switched off his computer and went out of the house. He only needed to cross one road and he was at the exercise site, where he started to learn. Now his parents, friends and schoolmates all know Falun Dafa, and some of them even started to practice. Every time this student comes to the exercise site, he asks for many Falun Gong leaflets to hand out to people.
A 75-year old elderly lady from Chile has a daughter who lives in Switzerland. Not long ago, her daughter saw Dafa practitioners holding a peaceful appeal outside the UN headquarters in Geneva. Her daughter later called her mother in Chile and told her about this. Now, she and her mum are both practitioners. One practices in Switzerland and the other practices in Chile.
A young Korean student who lives in Chile was once traveling back from the United States to Chile when he met some practitioners in a California Airport. The practitioners offered him a leaflet. After reading it, he called the Falun Gong contact person in Chile straight away. The next day, he came to learn the exercises.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
There is a practitioner in Buenos Aires who has practiced Falun Dafa for nearly a year, but he did not take cultivation very seriously. He did not do the exercises regularly and he couldn't do single leg crossing properly in the meditation. However, after he took part in the first Latin America Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference in March this year, he came to understand Dafa more deeply and firmly through talking with other practitioners. After the conference, when he did the last exercise at home, to his amazement he found himself sitting in meditation with both legs crossed.

(Clearwisdom.net) For Fa-rectification Dafa disciples, the issue of on what basis we view the Fa-Rectification is a very serious matter. On the surface, the main purpose of writing solemn declarations is for those of us who did not do things righteously during the persecution to have a chance to start afresh and do well again, so as to clean up our own stains in our cultivation. But from the basis of Fa-rectification, the reason to write solemn declarations is not merely to clean up one's own stains, it should also be to eliminate the evil and to make up for the losses one has caused to Dafa. Compared to matters of Fa-rectification, everything else is trivial. We must think of Dafa first in anything we do, and this is being Fa-rectification Dafa disciples.
Some people did not let go of their everyday people's mentality and used the writing of solemn declarations as a way out to cover the fact that they had not cultivated themselves righteously. Some people gave in to the evil due to fear, yet they did not dare to write solemn declarations with the excuse that doing so was just a formality and it would be fine as long as they could genuinely cultivate themselves righteously afterewards. In fact, this because they did not look at the relationship between themselves and the Fa-rectification with righteous thoughts. Furthermore, after a practitioner succumbed to the evil by writing "gurantee letters," his or her deterioration and degeneration in mind and body is very frightening and a grievous situation. He or she does not feel scared by any of these, yet he or she fears for a tiny loss in the human world. This is precisely the behavior of someone who does not truly study the Fa well, and who has a very poor quality of enlightenment and character.
There are also some practitioners who had not cultivated themselves righteously in the past or even went astray along the evil path, and who, after they recognized their mistakes, worked extremely hard in doing Dafa work, hoping to make up for the losses they had caused. Among them, the final goal of some people was to regain their own losses they thought they had lost, rather than to genuinely make up for the losses they have caused to Fa-rectification. For an everyday person, if he or she did something bad to defame Dafa, that everyday person could be given another opportunity to make up for the losses by doing something good. This is because everyday people are only repositioning themselves and they are not participating in the Fa-rectification. Their character problems will not cause interference to Fa-rectification. For a Fa-rectification Dafa disciple, the situation is completely different. We are participating in the Fa-rectification and all of our loopholes will be exploited by the evil as excuses to persecute us, and consequently will bring losses to the Fa.
Another issue is on what basis we look at our own cultivation. In the past, I looked at my own cultivation with a very complicated mentality. For example, practicing the exercises was to strengthen supernormal capabilities; studying the Fa was to speed up the progress of my cultivation; letting go of attachments was to attain Consummation, because I knew that I would not attain Consummation if I did not let go of my attachments. Though I did not have an explicit intention to pursue these things, that was what I thought deep down in my mind. The true, original basis of all of these matters revolved around "for myself." The true, original basis of my cultivation was also centering around "me." Because I wanted to achieve certain goals, so I took actions to make my goals come true.
It was only until recently while I was studying the Fa that I truly realized the fact that all this time I had been holding on to the basis of individual cultivation, which was hidden deeply in my mind. As a Fa-rectification Dafa disciple, we are not here simply to attain our own Consummation, rather we are here to assist Teacher in the Fa-rectification and in saving people. For Re-rectification Dafa disciples, all of our actions, thoughts and notions are closely related to offering salvation to all beings. Even though some matters in our daily lives do not appear to have much connection to saving all beings, Fa-rectification Dafa disciples' handling of these everyday matters has significant implications. I began to realize that the meaning of offering salvation to all beings is very significant. Offering salvation to all sentient beings is not only limited to clarifying the truth, which is only one aspect of saving sentient beings. In fact, our cultivation itself is to offer salvation to all sentient beings. If we cultivate ourselves very well, fewer of the beings in the cosmos that we represent will be weeded out. In this special period of Fa-rectification, even for a seemingly normal and small gesture, if it does not comply to the Fa, it may cause some beings in our worlds to be weeded out. Therefore, we must truly follow Teacher's teaching in all our words and actions, and in all our thoughts and notions. At the same time, we must study the Fa well, send forth righteous thought and clarify the truth. Only when we are truly able to do so, are we truly offering salvation to all beings and accomplishing something according to Teacher' requirements. Teacher said in the Fa lecture "Touring North America to Teach the Fa",
"Why do I say that Dafa disciples are different from the cultivators of the past? I say that Dafa disciples are magnificent, but only if you've cultivated really well is your Consummation truly magnificent. A Dafa disciple's Consummation isn't just about an ordinary being breaking out of the Three Realms. Think about it, when you cultivate well few beings in the gigantic cosmos turn bad and few of them get weeded out. And when you return, they will truly regard you as their Lord, their King, and have boundless reverence for you, because you saved them, you sacrificed for them, and you gave them everything they have. But if you don't cultivate well, many beings will be weeded out since we can't not weed out beings who are no longer salvageable."
In the past, studying the Fa, cultivating character, and practicing the exercises were all for improving myself, and the ultimate goal of my cultivation was to attain Consummation. Now I am clear about the basis, and I no longer think about what I am going to accomplish while doing Dafa work. The reason I am doing Dafa work is to fulfill my duty as a Fa-rectification Dafa disciple. My personal understanding of the duty of a Fa-rectification Dafa disciple is that during this special period, all the things that we will do, including each thought and each notion, must truly be in line with Teacher's teachings. That is to use our whole body and heart and all the best things in us to harmoniously perfect what Teacher wants in Fa-rectification. One of the major objectives is to offer salvation to all beings. Its manifestation is that we will do exactly what Teacher said unconditionally and that regardless of the scale of the task, we will do it with all we have. This is the duty for being a Fa-rectification Dafa disciple and is the genuine meaning of our life. If the basis of our cultivation practice revolves around ourselves and we attempt to use Dafa to perfect our own plans so that we can achieve some goal, we are completely mistaken. Teacher said,
"So for the beings of the old cosmos, and this includes all the elements of beings, when it comes to the Fa-rectification and what I choose, all beings' harmonizing and completing things according to my choices and contributing their best ideas and approaches--not to change what I want, but to harmonize and complete things according to what I've said--is the best thought a being in the cosmos could have. (Applause) But the old forces haven't been doing it that way. They've considered their choices the most essential, and have thought that everything I do should harmonize everything they want--they've completely reversed it. I don't want to state their crimes too harshly, right now I don't want to name their crimes. But it's absolutely wrong, they absolutely can't do it that way." ("Fa-Lecture During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference")
The basis of our cultivation is for Fa-rectification and saving all beings. The basis of our life is to harmonize and accomplish what Teacher wants, rather than "for myself." When we truly meet this requirement, we can then be worthy of the title of Fa-rectification Dafa disciples. It is because we are great beings created by Teacher in this special period of Fa-rectification, and we are to become the great enlightened beings with the nature of "selflessness" and "not attaching to oneself" in the new cosmos.
The above are my personal understandings, please kindly correct me if there is anything inappropriate.
(Clearwisdom.net) Due to the joint efforts of overseas Falun Gong practitioners, numerous truth-clarification phone calls have been made to the Legal System School in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. This "school" is in fact a brainwashing center where many practitioners are being detained. The police have tried various tricks when they are called. Some policemen have pretended to be women. Some have tried to deny the persecution facts; some have claimed that their phone number belonged to a certain company; some have cursed at the practitioners and some have tried to avoid responsibility.
Recently, the police have removed some of the phone numbers (86-20-81730646, 86-20-81730651, 86-20-81730817) that were open to the public in the past. The administration section chief Lai Jianfeng and policeman Yang Yongcheng have stopped using their cell phone numbers (86-13802542330, 86-13509294929). Some of the telephones have installed caller ID and recording devices. It is apparent that they are afraid of receiving phone calls from overseas practitioners.
At present a large number of determined practitioners are still being held here, including Dai Yongmei, Zou Yuyun, Li Qiong, and Xie Miao. Every day the police are torturing our fellow practitioners. We call for practitioners and people who know more information about the brainwashing center to provide more phone numbers of the perpetrators, so we can use these numbers to clarify the truth. We need to expose their crimes to the public and help stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) I live in a rural mountain area in China. I had suffered from many illnesses before discovering Falun Dafa. I had a gastric ulcer and arthritis. I couldn't walk because of the pain of sciatica. The pain of my gallstone was so acute that I could hardly endure it. I was also very weak. I couldn't shower with cold water, even in the hot summertime, and I took twelve different prescriptions every day.
In the summer of 1996, a Falun Dafa practitioner came to our village and introduced Falun Dafa to me. I wanted to practice Falun Dafa as soon as I learned that it was the righteous law. Teacher started to take care of me the minute I had the thought of cultivating. Without noticing it, all the pain that I had suffered for many years disappeared in a few days. At that time, I hadn't read the Dafa book yet [Zhuan Falun], nor practiced the exercises.
Later, I borrowed the book Zhuan Falun [the book that explains principles of Falun Dafa]. However, I was illiterate and was unable to read it. I therefore had to transcribe it and learn the book bit by bit. I was very worried because of my slow progress in reading the book. So, I asked Teacher to open my wisdom. Teacher did open my wisdom. Now I can read the whole book, and even recite it from memory.
Jiang Zemin began the persecution of Falun Dafa on July 20, 1999. How could I see such a good practice being persecuted without doing something about it? So I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. The police arrested me. I told them my own story to validate Dafa. When the police beat me, I remembered what Teacher had told us: "When it's difficult to endure, you can endure it. When it's impossible to do, you can do it" (Zhuan Falun). I didn't feel any pain when the police beat me. Eventually they stopped beating me. They wanted to take pictures of the Dafa practitioners who were arrested. I thought that I should not allow them to take my picture. I was not called on to have my picture taken.
I was illegally imprisoned for forty-five days because of my appeal. My family was so disturbed that nobody took care of our rice paddy. I was fined 5,000 yuan [approximately 10-month's salary of an average urban worker]. My picture of Teacher and my Dafa books were all confiscated. I cried through the night over this. I didn't do well as a practitioner. Dafa gave me my life. So I clarified the truth to people at every opportunity. Every piece of Dafa material is precious, so I always try to clarify the truth to people first before I give them the material.
In the market, at school, on the road, in the farm field, no matter where I met people, I tried my best to clarify the truth to them. Many people in the rural area understood that natural disasters are in fact man-made disasters. So I chatted with them about these things. I talked about how to be a good person and about "Zhen-Shan-Ren" [Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the main principle of Falun Dafa]. I told them the facts about the persecution of Dafa. Finally, I would hand them the truth-clarification material. When I explained it this way, they easily accepted what I said. Sometimes, when I talked to one person, dozens of people would come over to listen to me. The school teachers insisted on donating money to us after they watched the truth-clarification VCDs and understood the truth, though we always refused money as is taught to us. People who understood the truth always asked me for more truth-clarification materials when they saw me.
Actually, the reason why Dafa practitioners can do well is because our Teacher has arranged everything for us. I remember one time when I went out without a coat on a very cold morning, I met a lady on the road and she praised my fortitude. I took the opportunity to clarify the truth to her. A stranger overheard our discussion, so we talked as we were walking. Without knowing it, we walked together for two miles. Teacher is so merciful that he arranged for another person to learn the truth that day.
Besides clarifying truth to people face-to-face, I also hang up banners, put up posters and distribute truth-clarification materials. Once, I went out to hang a banner at midnight, when it was very dark. I was not able to hang it up because it was so dark. I asked Teacher to help me, and suddenly, a bright light illuminated the place where I wanted to hang the banner. I easily hung up the banner. Another time, I went out to distribute some materials and encountered a group of policemen. I ran to a nearby ditch and sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the forces that influenced them. The policemen left shortly thereafter. From then on, I would first send righteous thoughts before clarifying the truth. I also sent forth righteous thoughts to the posters to avoid them being taken down. I also made some truth clarification materials myself. I could only make some simple ones such us "Falun Dafa is Good," and "Zhen-Shan-Ren is Good." I think the practitioners who make the truth-clarification materials for the rest of us are very busy. We will do our best to help reduce their workload.
I feel that time is very precious now. It's not easy to do things well to help Teacher to rectify the Fa, but no matter how hard it is, we have to do our best. Teacher has given us the special honor of helping with Fa-rectification. We have to do our best to merit the title of "Fa-Rectification Period Dafa Disciples." I hope to progress diligently together with other practitioners. Please kindly point out anything that I haven't done well.

Two years ago a Fa Conference was held in a southern area of Mainland China. It was reported to the police and a few Dafa practitioners including myself were arrested as a result.
I was brought to the police station, and two policemen interrogated me. They asked for my name, age, address, and other information. "My name is not what is important; the matter at hand is your aim to persecute Falun Gong practitioners," I told them. One of them took out his handcuffs and wanted to use them on me. I refused to cooperate and said, "This device is supposed to be used on criminals. You can't use them on kind-hearted elderly people!" The policeman played around with the handcuffs and asked, "What is your name and how old are you?" "My name is just called Dafa practitioner, and my age is an elderly person. I am just an elderly person who suffered severe illnesses everywhere on my body, practiced Falun Gong, and became completely healthy in both mind and body!"
Afterwards I clarified the truth calmly to the policemen as they listened attentively. Their kind hearts emerged, and they became friendly during the conversation. They knew that Falun Gong practitioners were good people. After two hours, those two policemen were replaced by two new ones that also interrogated me. The result was the same as with the past two officers. Very quickly, again two new policemen took over and their questioning, as with the previous policemen, went nowhere. In front of a Dafa practitioner, these policemen couldn't do what they wanted. They had no way out! Another two hours passed, and the current set of policemen rotated off. The police tried to use various tactics of constant, ongoing interrogation, and switching interrogators to keep the interrogation fresh, as well as depriving the practitioner of food or bathroom privileges in order to pressure the practitioners into renouncing their belief in Falun Dafa. However, all these tactics ended in failure.
During the interrogation, my righteous thoughts were very strong. I had no fear and kept Teacher's words in mind,
"Why should you, a Dafa disciple, fear the evil ones when enduring persecution? The crux of the matter is that you have attachments. If not, do not endure passively, and face the evil people with righteous thoughts at all times. No matter what the situation, do not cooperate with the evil's demands, orders, or what it instigates. If everyone does this the environment won't be this way." (From "Dafa Disciples' Righteous Thoughts are Powerful" in Essentials for Further Advancement II)
From late at night until the second day of the interrogation, the policemen switched off with each other numerous times. They combined threats with promises, but could do nothing to change me. Later on the policemen switched shifts yet again, but this time unleashing all their ferocity by forcefully implementing corporal punishment upon me in an attempt to force me to confess to some crime. They also beat, forcefully ripped off my clothes, and illegally searched me.
The police slapped my face, pulled my hair, beat my face, and struck my body. However, wherever they hit my body I felt a deep cover of protection, as if the policemen's kicks and punches were rebounded back. I only felt numbness, rather than pain. I personally felt our merciful, amazing Teacher protecting disciples. Teacher has endured so much for us disciples. Later, the policemen sent me to another police station, and there they continued questioning me until late at night. When the policemen became tired, they handcuffed me to a bench and got someone to watch me.
Very late at night, I had the thought of escaping from the police station. Not only did the door have two locks, but there was also a person guarding it, so I knew it would be very difficult to escape using that door. Nevertheless, my heart was firmly set on leaving as quickly as possible. I fully realized that if I did it, it would be a Dafa practitioner's action of eradicating the old forces' evil arrangements, which is an unshakable duty! Only if a Dafa practitioner is not detained can he be amidst the mighty current of Fa-Rectification to assist Teacher in the world. My righteous thoughts came out, and action followed. The chill of the time right before dawn kept me even more clear-headed. I attempted to take off the handcuffs. I had no tools to open the handcuffs with, but I was sure that righteous thoughts could get me out of them! I then jerked at the cuffs, and thought that my wrists would shrink in order to pull out my hands. The first attempt didn't work but I did not give up. I asked Teacher to make me strong. I thought of what's said in Zhuan Falun of how bodies in other dimensions can enlarge and shrink. If the handcuffs do not change, and my wrists shrink, then wouldn't I be able to remove my hands?! Under Teacher's protection, my wrists actually shrank, and I tried to slowly take off the handcuffs. The miracle happened and I was finally free! Then, a policeman suddenly knocked on the door. The guard opened the door and let a policeman into the room, and then he went to the restroom. In those few seconds, I seized the opportunity and escaped from the police station, diving into the mighty current of Fa-rectification.
There are many examples of practitioners taking off handcuffs and escaping with righteous thoughts. These actions against the persecution are magnificent feats of Dafa practitioners negating the old forces' arrangements and suffocating the evil.

(Clearwisdom.net) According to NewsMax.net's report on Mar. 30, 2004, "Amnesty International has just reported that Internet related offenses in China increased by 60 percent in 2003. This crackdown included the imprisonment or detaining of 54 people."
The report stated, "The Chinese government requires its citizens to log on through state-controlled routers in order to restrict them from viewing "subversive" or "dangerous" content. In China, if you search for terms like "Taiwan," "Tibet," "democracy," "dissident," "Falun Gong," and "human rights," your request is denied.
If one persists in such searches, promotes online petitions, disseminates pro-democracy information, or raises such taboo subjects as the SARS outbreak, you may find yourself detained or imprisoned.
In a May 2003 report, Reporters Without Borders - a leading free-press advocacy group - investigated Internet use in China by posing as a Chinese Internet user for one month. The report finds that approximately 70 percent of controversial content was suppressed.
The report also describes the "manhunts" that the government uses to track down violators as part of the "Golden Shield" policy, which began in the late 1990s to stifle dissent. It is estimated that 60 laws and regulations exist regarding use of the Internet, and that even well intentioned sites such as Yahoo! are merely "police auxiliaries."
The outlook is not improving. Liu Yuzhu, a Ministry of Culture official, told Amnesty that by 2005, all cafes will be required to install an "Internet cafe technology management system requiring the whole nation to adopt the same standard and each province the same software." The software will help the Ministry of Culture collect data on Internet users and alert authorities when forbidden content is accessed.
Of course, the communist Chinese government does not limit itself to Internet users. The U.S. State Department in its 2003 Annual Report on Human Rights Abuses documented the existence of "re-education through labor camps" where approximately 250,000 citizens are currently detained for allegedly committing crimes against the Communist Party."

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."
Here are some examples of the Solemn Declarations:

Facts of the Persecution
Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Huo Yinshan is from Yuji Township, Linghai City, Liaoning Province. In November 2001 Mr. Huo went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was abducted and sent to the Jingzhou City Forced Labor Camp. In June 2002, because Mr. Huo tried to escape the persecution, his sentence was extended by eight months. One evening, the prison guards cuffed Huo's hands behind his back and put a helmet on his head. Huo was not allowed to sit or sleep. When he got too tired and started to doze off, the guards would hit the helmet with a wooden bat. In March 2003 prison guard Li Songtao forced Huo to sit cross-legged, and then tied Huo's legs with a rope, cuffed his hands, and hung him by his wrists. Several prison guards then took turns stepping on Huo's legs until he almost lost consciousness from the pain. Prison guards involved in the incident included Li Songtao, Zhang Chunfeng, Zhang Jiabing, and Yang Tinglun. Mr. Huo remains in jail and continues to be tortured.
On March 17, Daqing City Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Tang Zengyie was sent to Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Center to be tortured and brainwashed. The torture methods used on Tang included the "Iron Chair" (1), electric shock, "Ghost Haircut" (2), "Riding an Airplane" (3), being soaked with cold water, being tied with icepack to the body, and being injected with unknown substances. In order to protest the persecution, Tang started a hunger strike. But she was tied to a chair and force-fed by prison guards Li Quanming, Yi Na, Wang Limei, and a few inmates. The force-feeding was so brutal that Ms. Tang bled all over her clothes on several occasions. Afraid of being held responsible for doing such evil, the guards had someone change Tang out of her blood-soaked clothes. After the force-feeding, Tang was dragged to watch brainwashing videotapes. Later on, the guards just pinned Tang to the floor during force-feeding. Finally, ordered by team leader Dong Meiguang, the evildoers dragged Ms. Tang to the bathroom for force-feedings.
Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Li Guilan, from Luanping County, Hebei Province, tells her own experience during the persecution: Four police officers came to my home that day. They were Xu Yancheng (head of the local National Security Unit), Ma Haidong (assistant unit head), Cheng Liming, and Liu Shiwei (female). I did not open the door, so they broke in through a window. As soon as they got in, Xu Yangcheng and Cheng Liming hit me in my face. They handcuffed me and took me to a detention center, where Ma Haidong held me down while Xu Yangcheng used an electric baton to shock me. My back was covered with blisters from the electric shocks. The next day, six or seven policemen surrounded me. They stripped off my upper clothes and used electric batons to shock my breasts and nipples. One of them, policeman Zhang Hong, forced alcohol down my throat. They tortured me with "Riding an Airplane." I was also forced to squat down with my head clamped between Zhang Dajun's legs while the others used electric batons to shock me. They also violently yanked me on and off the bed by my handcuffs.
Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Ming, 34, is from Fulin Township, Tonghe County, Heilongjiang Province. On October 25, 2000 Yu Jun, the Secretary of Fulin Political and Judiciary Committee, and a policeman brought Mr. Li back from Beijing, where he had gone to appeal for Falun Gong. Li Ming was detained at the Tonghe Detention Center. The head of the local National Security Unit, Ma Debo, and Cheng Yongkuan beat Li viciously. Prison guard Jin Minyu handcuffed and tortured him late into the night. On March 1, 2001 Li Ming was again secretly taken to the Tonghe Detention Center. He was beaten by police officers Ci Haibo, Guo Biao, and others from Nonghe Police Station. Guo Biao kicked Li's throat so hard that he could not speak for a long time. In the middle of a bitter winter, they stripped Li naked, forced him to face an open window, and did not allow him to sleep. Li was subjected to both physical and psychological torture.
Facts about the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in Xinji Township, Sanhe City, Hebei Province: On November 26, 2001, Falun Gong practitioners who went to Beijing to appeal were brought back to the township police station. Over two dozen police officers, including the head of the police station Wang Zhendong and the secretary of the local Political and Judiciary Committee Yang Shaolin were involved in interrogations and beatings of the practitioners. They forced all the practitioners to kneel down. Wang Zhendong asked practitioner Ms. Kan Yufang how many times she went to Beijing to appeal. Before Kan could answer, Wang Zhendong picked up a broom made of bamboo and started hitting her in the face. Ms. Kan's face was covered with bruises from the beating. Another practitioner, Li Qingzeng, was beaten until she lost consciousness, and she lost a lot blood due to a bleeding nose. Ms. Zhang Xiumin was beaten so badly that her face became deformed. The police also illegally searched Ms. Li Shujun and took 160 Yuan (4) that she was carrying. They then threatened her husband and forced him to pay 500 Yuan for her release. But two days after her release, she was again abducted by police officers Li Jie, Meng Hao, Hou Dongxu, and others.
Facts revealed about the persecution of Falun Gong Practitioner Lu Yirong in brainwashing centers in Guangzhou City: On February 23, the "610 Office" (5) in Guangzhou abducted Ms. Lu Yirong and sent her to Chatou Brainwashing Center, where Ms. Lu was tortured to the brink of death. She was so weak that she could not eat or drink. She was then transferred to Sanshui Brainwashing Center. Her family vehemently demanded her release, and on March 19 she was let go. While Ms. Lu was in the brainwashing center, she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. The police thus cuffed her hands and hung her up so that only her toes were touching the floor. At around 3:00 p.m. on March 5, 2004, the head of the Suihua City "610 Office," Sun Huaming, and several policemen from Dongxing Police Station went to the home of Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Dong Shulan. They tried to take her away by force, but Dong resisted. Sun Huaming then called in more police, and they beat Ms. Dong until she lost consciousness. Ms. Dong was revived through CPR. They then forced her into a car and took her to Suihua City Detention Center. The next day, the police called her home and asked for money for her medical treatment. They claimed that Dong had physical injuries on her chest and ribs. But Dong's family had no money; her husband was seriously ill and could not even take care himself. He had no one to care for him. Ms. Dong's relatives borrowed money for her. After the treatment, however, Ms. Dong was put back into the detention center.
