Under the orders of the Jiang regime, in the past four and a half years the Chinese Embassy and consulates have used various means to stigmatize Falun Gong and spread lies and hatred in Canada. During the press conference, plaintiff Joel Chipkar enumerated such kinds of conduct. At the same time, Mr. Chipkar called on Canadian governmental officials, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the media and the public to jointly stop hate propaganda, and monitor and report such conduct to local police.

Canadian Senator Raynell Andreychuk and MP Yvon Charbonneau attended the press conference to support the event. At the same time, Canadian MP Rob Anderson wrote a letter to encourage practitioners regarding this verdict.

In a statement, Falun Gong spokeswoman Lucy Zhou said that using characters and pictures to instigate hatred violates Canadian Criminal Law. Moreover, according to the United Nations' Convention On Consular Relations and Optional Protocols, all persons enjoying such privileges and immunity are "to respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State (article 55(1))," "the consular premises shall not be used in any manner incompatible with the exercise of consular functions (article 55(2))" and work "within the limits permitted by international law (article 5(a)). Instigating hatred itself is not the business or legitimate responsibility of any consular officials.

During the press conference, Mr. Chipkar illustrated cases in which Chinese diplomats acted outside their diplomatic function to spread hatred. For example, the Chinese diplomats have distributed slanderous materials against Falun Gong to Canadian officials and public libraries. Chinese diplomatic officials also wrote letters to Canadian officials asking them not to support and protect Canadian citizens' legal rights. Chinese consulate officials have also supported meetings instigating hatred. At their public website and the Toronto Visa office, the Chinese consulate officials continue to post graphic pictures to slander Falun Gong, while several hundred Canadian citizens visit this office every day.

Mr. Chipkar also showed the media a letter from the Chinese Consulate to a Toronto City council member. The letter, which was sent to the council member at the beginning of the year, denounced Falun Gong and repeatedly used Jiang regime's slanderous propaganda against Falun Gong. Mr. Chipkar said, "Compared to the overall slander of Canadian practitioners, Chinese diplomatic officials' libel against me is very little."

Chipkar reminded the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "Tuesday, a Canadian court has ruled that Pan Xinchun has transgressed his consular functions and violated international law when he viciously attacked me." "Even four years after Jiang's regime started to persecute Falun Gong, the Chinese Consulate in Toronto is still using hateful propaganda and manipulating measures to divide Canadian communities. How can they continue to do that? The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affair must stop these diplomatic officials from attacking Canadians."

Last December, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda found three persons guilty of genocide in 1994 for using the media to instigate violence. Among the three defendants, two were sentenced to life imprisonment and the other to a 35-year prison term.

Mr. Chipkar said that a similar crime was occurring in China and that the Chinese government attempted to influence Canadian media to help it spread hatred and block support for Falun Gong.

Mr. Chipkar pointed out to the Canadian media that during the persecution, Chinese media reports that defamed Falun Gong did not have any credibility. He called on the Canadian media to disregard the Chinese regime's slander and defamation of Falun Gong and all Chinese media attacking Falun Gong.

Mr. Chipkar said in answering questions from a Minghui reporter that he and his mother operated a business in Toronto. People around them knew he was a Falun Gong practitioner, and Pan Xinchun's libel harmed his reputation. Due to the spread of hatred, his wife was driven out of a coffee shop when she went there to collect signatures for rescuing her parents, who are being persecuted in China. The shop hosts tore up her appeal letter and slandered her. During the Canadian National Day Parade, a Chinese man ran into Mr. Chipkar's mother intentionally as she wore a T-shirt bearing the words "Falun Gong." Due to pressure from the Chinese embassy, some business owners fired Falun Gong practitioner employees. Some practitioners were even driven out of Chinese shopping centers. Senior practitioners were kicked out of senior citizen associations.

Mr. Chipkar said that everyone, including children, would see posters slandering Falun Gong on the wall when entering Chinese embassy and consulates in Canada. These pictures poisoned Canadians' minds.

Mr. Chipkar called on Canadian MPs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to actively stop the hateful propaganda of the Chinese embassy and consulate in Canada. He said that instigation of hatred was a crime in Canada. If an MP receives a letter or information about Falun Gong from Chinese officials, please contact us and inform the local police department in charge of hate crimes. Police have set up a case to investigate the hate propaganda of the Chinese embassy in Canada. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must stop Chinese diplomats' libel of Canadian citizens and spreading of hate propaganda, and let those involved know that they are not welcome.

(Clearwisdom.net) This week, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice awarded Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Joel Chipkar damages for libel in a suit against Mr. Pan Xinchun, a Chinese consular official who stated that the practitioner was a member of a "sinister cult."

The essence of this judgement tells us that attacking Falun Gong practitioners with the Chinese authorities' hate propaganda and slanderous words is not legal in Canada. In addition, it also tells us that Chinese officials in Canada will be held accountable when they abuse their privileges and commit illegal acts.

According to the United Nations' Convention On Consular Relations And Optional Protocols, "...it is the duty of all persons enjoying such privileges and immunities to respect the laws and regulations of the receiving State." (Article 55(1)) and "The consular premises shall not be used in any manner incompatible with the exercise of consular functions." (Article 55(2))

Consulate officials must conduct their affairs "by all lawful means" (Article 5(c)) and "within the limits permitted by international law." (Article 5(a)).

However, in the past four and a half years, the Chinese embassies and consulates have been turned into overseas bases, in violation of Canadian and international law, in an international campaign to turn people's opinion against Falun Gong and to stifle their support for the practice.

Chinese diplomats have stepped far beyond their supposed diplomatic mandates to spread hate propaganda to many NGOs, MPs and government officials; hold anti-Falun Gong exhibits inside Chinese consulates and the embassy; and organize public rallies to divide communities.

Unfortunately, such misinformation has also spread into Western society through Western media quoting the Chinese regime's slanderous labelling of Falun Gong. We reiterate that referencing Chinese government sources as credible sources of information on the topic of Falun Gong is granting legitimacy to the propaganda and fuelling the persecution. It is no different from Mr. Pan's slanderous words, which were published in Western media.

We urge the media to have awareness on this issue, to stop quoting the misinformation from the Chinese authorities, and to help correct the misinformation.

We urge the Department of Foreign affairs to take responsibility and vigorously intervene in the Chinese embassies and consulates' hate propaganda in Canada, for these are gross violations of Canadians' rights in Canada.

We urge the officials who receive such materials to report these incidents to the hate crimes unit of the local police.

These steps will eliminate the environment that allows the defamation campaign to exist.

We also ask the Chinese consulates and Embassy to stop the illegal hate incitement in Canada right away, and urge the Jiang Zemin regime to stop the persecution.

The consular corps in this country cannot act maliciously against Canadians and not expect to suffer consequences, the lawyer of a Toronto man who won a libel lawsuit earlier this week in Ontario Superior Court said yesterday.

In what was seen as an unprecedented step against a Canadian-based representative of a foreign government, the court said Pan Xinchun, the Chinese deputy consul general in Toronto, libelled Joel Chipkar, a Toronto businessman, and would have to pay $1,000 and legal fees.

Mr. Chipkar, a practitioner of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline whose followers have been persecuted by the Chinese government, wrote a letter to the Toronto Star last spring in which he criticized China's management of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome outbreak.

The day after Mr. Chipkar's letter was published, the newspaper ran a reply from Mr. Pan, who said Mr. Chipkar "had hidden motives and was part of [Jiang regime's slanderous words deleted]," said Peter Downard, Mr. Chipkar's lawyer.

"That personal attack exceeded the bounds of fair reply," Mr. Downard added.

Mr. Chipkar asked for an apology.

When there was no response, he sued Mr. Pan, who refused repeated attempts to be served with the legal papers and then did not file a defence.

Consequently, the court noted Mr. Pan was in default, essentially admitting the allegations against him were true, Mr. Downard said.

Officials with the Chinese consulate in Toronto could not be reached for comment.

So far, students have learned some Chinese pinyin and components of Chinese characters, how to write "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" in Chinese and some simple Chinese conversational phrases. The students have also learned to read some ancient Chinese stories in English. Though some students are not practitioners, they also have learned to say "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" in Chinese.

Students have learned how to make lotus flowers, lanterns and dragons. Before last Christmas, every student made a handmade Christmas card for Charles Li, who is being persecuted in China, and sent it to China with help from the teachers. During classes, students often share how they have behaved themselves according to "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance."

Since the first Minghui school was founded in Washington DC on January 6, 2001, many Minghui schools have been founded around the world including Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Thailand, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Seattle and many cities in Taiwan. The Minnesota Minghui school incorporates the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" into its teaching, while it mainly teaches Chinese and introduces traditional Chinese culture. The school also teaches Falun Gong exercises and offers many other activities such as crafts, dancing and games. The school is open to people from all walks of life and will accept new students this fall.

(Clearwisdom.net) During Hu Jintao's visit to France, French police unreasonably and violently arrested dozens of Falun Gong practitioners in the streets of Paris, executing the "orders from above," claiming "it's illegal to wear yellow clothing" and later they released the practitioners with "no reason for arrest."

After the incident took place, French consulates around the world received phone calls from various international human rights groups, from journalists and Falun Gong practitioners. Different segments of the French government shirked responsibility regarding the incident of French police illegally arresting Falun Gong practitioners. The French media, who had initially actively exposed the Chinese government's effort to prevent the Falun Gong practitioners' participation in the New Year's Parade is now strangely silent, as if nothing had happened. Regarding this situation, a Minghui reporter interviewed Mr. Zhang Jianping, spokesperson for the European Falun Gong Information Center, located in Paris.

Mr. Zhang said, "After the event took place, Falun Gong practitioners delivered public announcements to the local media; during Hu Jintao's speech at the French Parliament, certain human rights organization(s) outside the building protested China's terrible human rights conditions, and Falun Gong practitioners were also present. Many media representatives interviewed those Falun Gong practitioners who recounted their arrest that took place three days ago. Surprisingly, all these media did not mention the police's unreasonable arrest in their reports."

The local media's odd silence and their handling of the incident contrasts drastically with their earlier reaction to the Chinese government representatives' asserting pressure on the Paris government for preventing Falun Gong practitioners from participating in the Chinese New Year Parade. Observers suspect that "orders from above" may have played a role in this case. The French government officials are elected by the people, and a few officials' actions brought shame on the French people and made them accomplices to an act of injustice.

Several days ago, AFP, International Herald Tribune, France Info, the French International Broadcasting Station and Europe's mainstream media all reported on the Chinese authorities pressuring the French government. There were even reporters who called relevant departments in France to express their concern. The European community supported Falun Gong practitioners' right to join the Chinese New Year Parade. European Parliament member Mr. Roger Helmer pointed out, "The possible exporting of these practices [the persecution] to EU Member States is completely unacceptable."

Zhang Jianping said, "Arresting tourists only because of the color of their clothing and the wording on their scarves will have a great impact on society. This is no different than what a totalitarian regime would do, so such action will terrorize French citizens and destabilize the society. Such behavior goes directly against the Western social system of democracy and freedom, and it also violates France national principles."

According to a member of a Chinese community organization in France, "Several months ago, the Chinese consulate began telling the French government, the police and the local people that Falun Gong practitioners will make trouble during the New Year's Parade and Hu's visit." The local Chinese community also received similar propaganda information from Jiang's group. The abnormal behavior of the French police was obviously due to coercion by Jiang's group.

Falun Gong practitioners have always held peaceful and rational activities that have been acknowledged by countries around the world. They were never suspected or accused of or found to "making trouble."

A commentary pointed out the fact that unreasonably arresting tourists because of the words "Falun Gong" on their clothing is the result of Jiang's group using economic interests and diplomatic tactics to persecute Falun Gong abroad. Jiang's group, the atrocious persecutors of Falun Gong, are the ones who spelled trouble in France, a land that treasures freedom, equality and humanity.

TAIPEI, Feb 3 (AFP) - Taiwanese members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement said Tuesday they would file a lawsuit against the French government for the "harassment and illegal arrest" of practitioners during demonstrations in Paris last month.

The group, outlawed in China [and persecuted in China], said it was bullied by police as the French government sought to take a hard line against the peaceful demonstrators during the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

"The French government should conduct a fair investigation, make public the truth, punish responsible officials and apologize to the affected Falun Gong practitioners," they said in a statement.

The lawsuit would be handled by lawyers from eight countries including French lawyer L.L. Forster, and will be filed soon, it said.

Some 30 Taiwanese Falun Gong members and colleagues from overseas staged demonstrations during Hu's visit.

During a press conference Tuesday, the group played a videotape showing how they were "rudely" rounded up.

The group also delivered a protest to the French Institute in Taiwan, France's de facto embassy in Taipei.

"They were checked by French police on the streets just because they were wearing yellow scarves," said Chang Chin-Hwa, a spokeswoman for Taiwan Falun Dafa, or Falun Gong.

She added some members were arrested and questioned for two hours before being released.

Some 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners from across the globe, including 170 from Taiwan, had gathered in Paris late last month to condemn Hu's predecessor, Jiang Zemin, for persecuting [innocent Falun Gong practitioners] in China.

Some members from Germany and Denmark, who were not involved in any violence, were also reported to have been harassed, Chang said.

Taiwan Falun Dafa is estimated to have 300,000 members.

China outlawed Falun Gong, which combines meditation with [traditional exercises and the belief in the principle of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance] in mid-1999 and practitioners have subsequently faced often brutal repression.

The outlawed group claims at least 1,600 Falun Gong followers have been killed, 500 others illegally sentenced, 20,000 sent to re-education camps and 100,000 jailed.

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Ye Wenying, over 60-years old and a Falun Dafa practitioner from Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province, was arrested by the local 610 Office [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] in Pengzhou City. She was taken to a brainwashing class where she was viciously and repeatedly beaten by Wang Chengdong (also called Wang Dong). As a result, her arms and feet were broken, her internal organs were injured, and she suffered incontinence. Afraid of assuming the responsibility, the 610 officials had Ye Wenying sent home on November 28 when she was on the brink of death. That same day, Ye Wenying died an unjust death.

In October 2003, the police of the brainwashing class held by the 610 Office in Pengzhou City kicked and beat Ye Wenying and hit her hard with a baton, breaking her arms and feet. Once, Wang Dong told Ye Wenying to come out of the cell, then kicked her hard without telling her why. According to a witness, Wang Dong was wearing leather boots with sharp points. The kick caught Ye Wenying in the pit of her stomach, which caused her to fall to the ground several meters away. Ye Wenying opened her mouth, but could not speak for quite awhile. Wang Dong just swaggered away.

Ye Wenying's body was covered with bruises after being viciously tortured and beaten repeatedly. Once, Luo Ke, another person working in the 610 Office, pulled Ye Wenying down from a concrete bed that was one meter high. The impact on the cement floor was so hard that the loud noise it made shocked all of the people present. Luo Ke, however, said, "Now, this at last satisfies a craving!" On November 28, when Ye Wenying was suffering from internal injuries, incontinence, and was on the brink of death, the 610 officials sent her home, since they were afraid of assuming responsibility for her death. That day, Ye Wenying died. After she died, the 610 Office returned to her family more than 10,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] of deposits and cash, which had been confiscated from her by the police. They also assigned police in plain clothes to monitor her family members.

Wang Chengdong, 30 years of age, is from Group 12, Section 1 of Gongtian Village in Tongji County, Pengzhou City. He served in the army in Xinjiang Province for four years. He was hired by the 610 Office after he came back home from the army. Together with Luo Ke, he often cruelly tortures Falun Dafa practitioners. They always repeat filthy language such as, "A man will disappoint the Central Committee of the Party if he does not patronize prostitutes. A woman will disappoint Jiang Zemin if she does not prostitute herself."

Falun Dafa practitioner Song Youchun was fifty-four years old. He lived in Tumenzi Village in the Tumenzi Region in Qinglong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. The Qinglong Detention Center detained him several times and tortured him because he refused to stop practicing Falun Dafa. They illegally sentenced him to three years in a forced labor camp. He was detained in the Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. Later he was detained in the Balizhuang Forced Labor Camp in Baoding City, Hebei Province. He was brutally tortured and suffered inhumane persecution. He was released when his health condition deteriorated, and his family brought him home. The Tumenzi Regional Government officials and the local police, however, still went to his home to harass him. On December 2, 2003, the head of the local police station Liu Yanwen, together with other officers, entered Song's house. Without giving any reasons, they handcuffed Song and two of his family members and took them to the Qinglong County Detention Center. Song went on a hunger strike. The guards inhumanely force-fed him. The prisoner head of his cell and the guards in the detention center often beat him up. During the fourteen days at the detention center, he suffered various kinds of brutal tortures and persecution. Around 5 o'clock in the afternoon on December 15, 2003, he was tortured to death.

The detention center didn't inform Song's family of his death until 8 a.m. the next day. When his family saw his body, they found Song's face and head misshapen and bruised. The blanket that Song used and the wall of his cell were both covered with blood. Song's eyes were still open.

His family immediately questioned the detention center:

1. Why didn't the detention center send Song to a hospital for treatment?
2. Why didn't the center inform Song's family when his condition was so serious?
3. Why didn't the center inform Song's family immediately after he died? Why did they wait fourteen hours before they let the family know about Song's death?

Song's family demanded that the detention center give a clear explanation for Song's death. They were very firm in their request since it was legally justified. Everyone connected to the incident, however, tried to hide the facts to avoid taking responsibility. The following departments/units should be held responsible for Song's death: Tumenzi County Government, Tumenzi Police Station, Qinglong County Detention Center, Qinglong County Public Security Department, and the National Protection Troop.

It was said that the Chairman of the Qinglong County Public Prosecution Department wanted to go after those who were responsible for Song's death, but the County Government and the Secretary of the County Discipline Committee prevented this from happening. They removed Song's organs and dismissed his family without granting their request for an autopsy. They also refused to compensate Song's family for any expenses incurred because of Song's death. Even after twenty days, Song's family still had not heard anything from the detention center.

(Clearwisdom.net) I started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After July 20^th, 1999, when Jiang's regime started the persecution of Falun Gong, I finally overcame my fears, and went to Beijing to validate Dafa with seventeen other practitioners.

We were taken away by the police at the train station after we arrived in Beijing. At two o'clock in the morning, they sent us to the Yueyang police station in Beijing. The local people who came to pick us up were already waiting there. They requested that our relatives pay 4,000 Yuan as traveling fees so they could send us back the next afternoon [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China]. At that time, Dafa disciples Su Jianlai, Chen Ouxiang, and Peng Jianfei were strongly opposed to going back. They were insistent on continuing to appeal, but they were eventually put on a train.

On the train, we memorized Master Li's poems. Some practitioners said that even if they tried to send us to the detention center, we would never go there, since that's not where we were supposed to be. After we arrived at Yueyang, police were going to take us to a jail, but we resisted. The police started to beat us. They would handcuff one of our hands and then drag us by the other end of the handcuff, until all of us were dragged into the jail. Some of us had our pants torn up from their brutality. In the detention center, the police interrogated us several times and each time I was beaten until tears covered my face. The unscrupulous head in the jail also used these opportunities to steal the food that had been sent to practitioners from their relatives.

In the next few days, the village organized a gathering in which they criticized Falun Gong. Students were forced to leave their classes and come to watch. Police officer Su Chaowen ordered a few other police officers to bind us and push us onto a truck. When the truck got to Sandun village's playground, there were more than 10,000 people already there, and the propaganda banners were everywhere. Before the meeting, the village government officials Li Guoqiang, Su Mingfeng, and Su Chaowen had already beaten Dafa disciples viciously. They were also trying to force Dafa disciples to curse at Master Li with them. Su Chaowen used rope to tie up Dafa disciple Xu Donghai. He kicked Xu in his side with the tips of his leather boots, and asked Xu if he would still practice. Xu Donghai got up and said firmly that he would practice, which was followed by a brutal beating. Under this kind of persecution, I was forced to say something that I did not want to. While riding on the truck on the way back to the detention center, I felt terrible.

I was unlawfully detained for 46 days. My family spent more than 20,000 Yuan to get me out of the detention center. My family told me that Falun Gong practitioners were made to walk around in the street while displaying banners that hung from their necks. Practitioners were fined anywhere from several thousand to tens of thousands of Yuan. The village government planned to demolish the homes of Dafa disciples Su Xianglai, Xu Kuanhou, Su Jianlai, and Li Fanzhou. Su Xianglai and Xu Kuanhou's relatives have had to spend a lot of money to keep their houses from being destroyed. But Su Jianlai's and Li Fanzhou's families could not afford these huge fines, and their houses were demolished. Even the presents from Su Xianglai's daughter's marriage were taken away. These persecutors were under orders from Tang Dianhui, Pan Dianhong, Su Mingfeng, Zhen Yong, and Su Chaowen, along with local police stations.

After I was released from jail, I heard that Dafa disciples Su Xianglai, Chen Ouxiang, Su Jianlai, Li Fanzhou, Chen Shenping, and Li Jichun were illegally sentenced to a forced labor camp. One year later, Dafa disciple Chen Ouxiang was tortured to death.

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a resident of Wanquan County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. I began to practice Falun Dafa in May 1998. Since then I began to get rid of all my bad thoughts, and purified my body and mind.

On July 20, 1999, an unprecedented persecution of Dafa and Dafa practitioners started. Ruthless people often harassed my family and my parents. I was monitored by my workplace, and my personal freedom was restricted. During Spring Festival 2000, my family and I went to visit my mother-in-law. I was abducted by my workplace and brought to the police station in Wanquan Township for half a day of detention (responsible person: Lu Bingying).

In February 2000, because I signed a petition appealing to the government for stopping the persecution of Falun Gong, I was fined 1,000 yuan [500 yuan is the average monthly income of an urban worker] by the Wanquan County Economics and Trade Committee, and I was also monitored (responsible people: Zhang Bing, Yang Zhanyou).

On June 25, 2000, my workplace tried to force me to give up practicing but they failed. I was dismissed from my job with no salary (responsible people: Zhang Bing, Factory Director Yang Huailiang, Secretary Lu Bingying, among others).

On December 16, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested in Tiananmen Square. I was sent to the Dongcheng District Police Station, and then transferred to the Daxing Detention Center of Beijing--a place specially used for detaining Dafa practitioners from out of town. I was put through excruciating torture for one day and one night. I was put through what is called, "carrying a sword on the back" [The practitioner's hands are tied behind his back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. The police then apply a great deal of force to pull the two hands toward one another and handcuff the two hands together]. I was also shocked with an electric baton, burned with a cigarette, my hands were beaten with a bamboo strips, I was beaten and kicked, and so forth. The police spoke viciously, "No practitioner who hasn't confessed under these devices and means can walk out of here." This just goes to show how cruel their torture methods are.

On December 18, 2000, I was sent by my workplace and police station to the politics and law section of the Wanquan County Police Department (responsible people: Li Fu, Zhang Bing, Fan Zhenbang). I was interrogated by Yang Yucai, and I was abused and beaten by three police officers from the criminal police team of the police department. Later, I was sent to the Wanquan County Detention Center.

On December 28, 2000, I was interrogated by the criminal police team of the police department. I was forced to sit on a "tiger bench" for three days and two nights, and I was also shocked with electric batons and abused ["tiger bench" is a small bench practitioners are forced to sit-squat on, and not move for long periods; it can be extremely painful] (assailant: Chang Chunrong, a police officer named Cao, Xu Xianting, three police officers from the criminal police team).

In January 2001, I was interrogated again in the office of the detention center. I was abused and tortured until my mouth and nose were bleeding. After pouring cold water on me, police found I was still alive and they continued to beat me up. Later a police officer named Wang, who was on duty in the office, feared that I might die. He stopped them and sent me back to a prison cell (assailant: Sun Xifu, and three other police officers).

On March 21, 2001, I was sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp by the Wanquan County "610 Office" and the politics and law section of the police department (responsible people: Li Jijing, and two female police officers). The Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp is just like a hell on earth. Every day we were beaten, forced to do hard work, deprived of sleep and not allowed to go to the bathroom.

On March 21, 2001, at night I was taken to a dark room and beaten by prison police (responsible people: male captain named Yang, female assistant captain named Ma Li, female captain named Niu).

On May 15, 2001, other practitioners and I were locked in a dark room. The windows of this room were covered with paper, which made the room dark. We went through forced brainwashing and brutal torture there.

On May 18, 2001, I was taken away again. While one male captain was stepping on me and one female captain was clutching my throat, I was shocked all over my body with electric batons (assailant: Captain Ye Shuyi and a male captain from the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp).

(Clearwisdom.net) Practitioner Wang Jingsheng is the former Deputy Director of Benxi City Cultural Bureau. He suffered from cancer but fully recovered after he began the practice of Falun Dafa. In November 2002, he was taken from his office to Benxi City Labor Camp and was sentenced to two years of forced labor. In the labor camp, he often suffered torture and other forms of physical punishment such as being forbidden to sleep and being confined in a solitary cell. He was once sent to the "stretching room" where the police tied up his hands and feet and stretched them in four different directions continuously for four days. His hands and feet were swollen terribly afterwards, which caused him difficulties in moving for more than a week.

Dafa practitioner Zhang Yuyang suffered vicious abuse in Benxi City Labor Camp. Police instructed collaborators (former practitioners who, under police coercion, renounced their practice of Falun Dafa) Jin Mingzhi, Yang Guozhi, and Liu Guoping to force Zhang Yuyang to sit with his legs crossed. They tied his hands behind his back, routed the ropes around his shoulders and tied them tightly around his ankles. This way Zhang's head was forced to touch his feet, his body curved in a circle.

With Zhang Yuyang in this position, the police ordered Jin Mingzhi to insert a wooden board under Zhang Yuyang's ankles. Female police officer Hu Yan from the Labor Camp Education Section stepped onto the board and jumped up and down on it. Later they had the other collaborators take turns stepping on it. This inhumane torture lasted for more than five hours. Zhang Yuyang is still suffering abuse in Benxi City Labor Camp. We hope all kind-hearted people will offer their help to stop such inhuman torture.

January 14, 2004

1. Ms. Zhang Huiling was deceived into giving up her belief, and she was allowed to serve her sentence outside the labor camp. However, she quickly returned to the path of cultivation and was sent back to the Tianjin Female Labor Camp's second team, first division. She attempted to clarify the truth to people, and was handcuffed and locked up for a long period of time. She was locked up with drug addicts, and her legs and arms were tied up while her mouth was gagged. They did not even untie her when she was eating or sleeping. The police chief allowed and even instructed the drug addicts to do whatever they wanted to her. In the cold winter they waited until the food was completely cold before allowing her to eat. They sealed her mouth after she took a few bites and pulled her hair. As a result, her full head of hair became very thin.

The people who are directly responsible are the labor camp director Yan, Zhang Chunyan, Ma, Xia, Li Xiaoling, Liang, and Wan.

2. Ms. Chen Yumei was among the first group of Dafa practitioners detained. Her sentence was one year, but she has been detained for nearly four years. She was tortured in various ways. She is emaciated, and her life is in danger after a long-term hunger strike. They refuse to release her because she does not want to give up her belief.

The people who are directly responsible are Zhang Chunyan, Kou Na, Ma, Xia, Li Xiaoling, Liang, and Wan.

3. Ms. Liu Rehan is 31 years old. She was a teacher from Tianjin and a Youth League Secretary. In November 2001, she was illegally sentenced to the labor camp for two years. Not long after she arrived at the Tianjin City female labor camp, division one, team one, she was severely beaten by drug addicts Chen Rong and Feng Yi in the team leader's bathroom. Later, she was transferred to Jianxin Labor Camp and closely monitored along with other Dafa practitioners. They were given the worst food, not even given pickled vegetables. They were not allowed to purchase things or to have visitors.

In 2002 she was transferred back to the female labor camp division one, team two. During the so-called "crushing the stronghold" brainwashing period, she was severely tortured. She could not rest until very late at night after the collaborators (former Dafa practitioners who have turned against Dafa under pressure) took turns interrogating her. She was only allowed to have half a bun for each meal. In the freezing winter, she had to sit in the cold hallway until midnight. Finally, even the person on duty (a drug addict) could not bear to see it and gave her some food when no one was watching.

Ms. Liu Rehan has a son who is about to go to school, who is being denied the care of his mother. All of the adult members in the family (Liu Rehan's parents, sister, and herself) except Liu Rehan's mother are being detained for practicing Falun Gong.

(Clearwisdom.net) The local "610 Office"* recently arrested a Dafa practitioner in my area. In order to rescue him, his family paid the local "610 Office" a large ransom. The "610 Office" agreed to release him after receiving the ransom, but they still haven't fulfilled their promise as of this writing.

I was shocked when I heard this news. My first response was that I must reveal the crime of the "610 Office!" On the other hand, submissively paying the ransom to the "610 Office" reflects a cultivation problem among Dafa practitioners and raises a fundamental question within our cultivation: Do we each have steadfast faith in the power of righteousness?

Jiang Zemin and his henchmen have been trying to "bankrupt Falun Gong practitioners financially." Therefore, paying the "610 Office" ransom is compromising with them. Perhaps a Dafa practitioner would argue, "It was my family members that paid the ransom, not me. Besides, I did not have to write any guarantee to renounce Falun Gong to get out of the prison. Once out, I can contribute more to Fa-rectification work." It might sound acceptable to "buy" your way out of prison instead of renouncing Falun Gong, but this reflects a fundamental attachment and the lack of steadfast belief in the power of righteousness.

Let's think about it for a minute. Because the "610 Office" profited from the abduction, they could make a successful business out of abducting Dafa practitioners and collecting ransoms. It follows that those Dafa practitioners who cannot afford to pay ransom would be subject to more severe persecution. Moreover, part of the ransom would doubtlessly be used to sustain the persecution against Falun Dafa. When the Fa-rectification reaches the human realm, the people working for the "610 Office" will be annihilated for their crimes against Falun Dafa. Can you honestly say that you did not encourage their crimes when you paid them ransom?

I sometimes read articles on Clearwisdom.net showing that some Dafa practitioners fail to have steadfast beliefs in righteousness when they are in the midst of persecution. For example, one of the articles that reveals the persecution facts says, "All the Dafa practitioners who have a steadfast belief in Falun Dafa are subject to more severe persecution." It appears to the author that the level of a Dafa practitioner's determination is positively correlated to the level of persecution. What was supposed to be an article that reveals the facts of the persecution sinks into an article written by an everyday person complaining about injustice. Such an article becomes less useful, as we should write articles to reveal the facts of the persecution and to share our righteous understanding of the Buddha Fa (Law and principles in the Buddha School) so as to generate the Fa's power to repress evil and eliminate disorder.

From the Fa's perspective, one of the purposes of Fa-rectification is to offer the lives from the old universe salvation, and bring them to the new universe. How can it be possible that the new Fa fails to repress evil and eliminate disorder? It is only when we hold fast to some attachments that it appears that the power of the righteousness fails to rectify the evil elements and, thus we fail to see through the illusions in the human realm.

There are a lot of positive examples among Dafa practitioners, that when practitioners refused to compromise with the evil, they did not suffer from escalated persecution. Instead, their righteous thoughts and actions brought them a better, improved living environment.

One night about two years ago, police abducted a young female Dafa practitioner (referred as X from now on) from her home and took her to a forced brainwashing class. The police had also abducted scores of other Dafa practitioners, but X was the only abducted Dafa practitioner who started a hunger strike and practiced the Falun Gong exercises as if there were no policemen present. During the practice, a policeman hit her on the hands and interrupted her. She was not at all intimidated by the policeman's violence. Instead, she opened her eyes and questioned the policeman, "Do you dare to give me your name?" She repeatedly demanded the policeman's name and scared the policeman away. X was released the same night.

I am aware of another young female practitioner (referred to as Y from now on). Each time the police abducted Y, her family refused to pay the fine (or ransom.) The "610 Office" learned from past experience that they would not be able to profit from her. In the latest arrest, the police were supposed to send her to the provincial forced brainwashing center for persecution according to their rules, but the forced brainwashing center refused to take her without money, so the police had no choice but to send her to the precinct forced brainwashing center. Y escaped before long and continued to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and the persecution to the Chinese people.

I also know of a young male Dafa practitioner (referred to as Z from now on). Jiang's henchmen forced his employer to fire him from work, so Z had to find a new job. Z posted his resume and cover letter on the Internet, and specified to his prospective employers in advance that he practiced Falun Gong and would be a responsible, diligent employee. In less than two weeks, three companies extended Z a job offer. Z accepted one of the offers and started working again. Later, the police in his area escalated the persecution so Z was unable to return home. Upon knowing Z's difficult situation, Z's company rented an apartment for him and actively protected him from the persecution.

To prevent Dafa practitioners from traveling to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa, the local police abducted me from home as a preventive measure during the New Year of 2001. At first, they warned my family that they must pay 10,000 Yuan for ransom before they would consider releasing me; otherwise, they would incarcerate me in jail for the rest of my life. [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.] The police added that I must also renounce Falun Gong or they would transfer me to a forced labor camp. My family wanted to pay the ransom but I told them not to do so. I said, "They have no reason to send me to the forced labor camp." Although my family was not entirely convinced, they agreed not to pay the ransom. When the police saw that my family refused to pay the ransom, they lowered the ransom to 5,000 Yuan. When my family still refused to pay the ransom, they again lowered the ransom, to 3,000 Yuan. When they lowered to 2,000 Yuan, my family started to think perhaps they should pay the ransom. I told my family solemnly that they shouldn't even pay them a dime for ransom. In the end, the police gave up the idea of collecting the ransom. They asked me to give them a verbal guarantee to renounce Falun Gong. Still I refused to comply with their demand. They eventually released me unconditionally.

I helped my family establish and reinforce righteous thoughts through this incident. We must not give in or compromise with Jiang Zemin's henchmen. Later the policemen from the local precinct came to my home while I was not home, and asked my mother to help persuade me into writing the Three Statements. [The Three Statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.] Otherwise, they would abduct me, take me to the forced brainwashing class, and put a bounty on my head if I escaped. After I returned home, my mother told me what had happened and said, "We haven't committed any crime. On what charge can they put a bounty on your head? I would like to see them try." During the illegal detention, many fellow practitioners and I actively clarified the truth about Falun Dafa to the policemen, and we helped many of them understand that we were people of high morality. In the end, I even shared Teacher's new article entitled "Coercion Cannot Change People's Hearts" with a policeman and asked him what they thought of this article. He said, "It was a very good article."

Although I was detained for one month longer than other practitioners because I refused to compromise with Jiang Zemin's henchmen, I believe it was worth it because I helped my family and the policemen establish and reinforce their righteous thoughts about Falun Dafa. My family members were intimidated by Jiang's henchmen, but they are no longer afraid to stand up to them. The policemen did not understand Falun Dafa and followed Jiang's orders to persecute Falun Dafa blindly. But in the end they admired Teacher's article and positioned themselves correctly during the Fa-rectification. Isn't it wonderful that things turned out this way? Isn't it because I had a steadfast belief in the power of righteousness?

Finally, I would like to conclude this article with a passage of Teacher's Fa:

Teacher said, "Indestructible righteous faith in the cosmos's Truth forms benevolent Dafa disciples' rock-solid, Diamond-Like Bodies, it frightens all evil, and the light of Truth it emanates makes the unrighteous elements in all beings' thoughts disintegrate. However strong the righteous thoughts are, that's how great the power is." ("Also In A Few Words" from Essentials for Further Advancement II)

* "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems. Due to pressure from the international community, the Chinese Communist government has renamed the "610 Office" on October 15, 2003, and lied to the world, stating that the "610 Office" has been "disbanded."

Teacher said in "Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Atlanta Fa Conference":

"Everything that Dafa disciples are doing today is for the sake of saving people. Otherwise what are you doing it for? Clarifying the truth in an upright and open manner are the very things Dafa disciples should do. I'm also telling you that all beings in today's world came for the sake of the Fa. If you want a being to clearly understand this point, you should go and clarify the truth to him. It is a master key, the key that can unlock that one thing all living beings have had sealed off for a long time and been waiting for more than an eternity."

Recently, two fellow practitioners shared their experiences of clarifying the truth to people around them. Below are accounts of their stories.

About one year ago, my husband and I moved to a small city after graduation. There were some elderly people who were also living in the apartment buildings that we were living in. The eldest person, who was over 80 years old, happened to live next door. Even though I had clarified the truth to most people in the building, I always hesitated to talk to this elderly man.

On International Human Rights Day last year (December 10^th), I contacted the media clarifying the truth to them. At the same time, I started to think about whether or not I should invite this elderly gentleman to come to my apartment to look at the truth-clarification photos. I stood in front of his door for a while, with all sorts of thoughts popping up in my mind. I was thinking, "Is he home? Perhaps he is napping? Am I not polite to knock on his door? Will he decline my invitation?" Soon I negated these thoughts. I knocked on his door, and he stuck his head out and was very surprised to see me. However, after I explained my intention, he nodded his head immediately, saying, "No problem. I'll change my clothes and come right away!"

I waited at home for quite a while before he came. He had combed his hair, put on a nice suit and well polished shoes. He was a totally different person! I was amazed to see how he spent so much time dressing himself up just for this moment! He sat in front of the photos and looked at them very carefully. I explained the persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang's regime with the photos as a prop. After listening to my explanation, he told me with some emotion that he had found from some of his Asian friends that countries ruled by communists all had very bad systems and people suffering. He knew that China had a very bad human rights record. He expressed his support for Falun Gong and conveyed his deep sympathy for practitioners being persecuted in China. Before he left, he thanked me over and over again for offering him such an opportunity to learn about the persecution. I was very touched by the kindness and righteousness of this elderly gentleman.

I lost my job over a year ago. Since then, I have helped my friends sell long distance calling cards to make a living. Even though I did not have much income, I never felt sad.

Several days ago, a placement agency contacted me telling me that a small computer company was in need of a person who knew how to do web design. The agent told me he only had a copy of my old resume and he asked if I had an updated one. I was very surprised, because I majored in computer software engineering and had never had any experience in web design. I hadn't looked for a job for years. I wondered how the agent had gotten hold of my resume.

Soon after, the agent called back to tell me that the company would interview me several days later.

During the interview, the boss told me that they were in fact in need of a person who knew how to do software programming (which was my major). As the conversation went on, he told me that he wanted to open a bank in China. I immediately replied, "As I see it, there are no advantages for you to do so!" "Why?" he asked. I replied, "Because it is not safe in China. Moreover, China is not like what you think." Not even before I finished, he interrupted me, "No! I don't want to talk about politics!" I had to stop.

Near the end of the interview, the boss told me to wait a week for his decision. At the same time, he handed me his business card asking me to contact him should I have any questions in the future. It looked like there was no hope for me to be hired at that time.

After I returned home, I felt very uncomfortable. The cold face of the boss saying, "I don't want to talk about politics," kept popping up in my head. I thought to myself, "Is this life still savable? If he's not interested in me, why did he still give me his business card? I don't care whether or not you make an offer to me, but I haven't finished my talk yet, and the boss hadn't understood the truth of Dafa. If I miss this opportunity, when can I meet him again? This is what I care about most!"

I decided to clarify the truth to the boss regardless whether or not he would hire me. So I called him. I said to him frankly, "I am sorry to bother you again, but I feel there's something I still need to talk to you about. I feel that the topic interrupted during the interview is not a matter of politics. Maybe you do not know that hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners in China have been tortured to death just because they follow "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance" and strive to be good people. Not doing business in China is not a political issue, but rather a matter of morality and conscience. It is very dangerous for you to do business in such a system full of violence, murder and deceit!" Then I gave him some concrete examples, but even before I finished, he stopped me again, "How much annual salary would you request?" I was stunned and he laughed.

The boss has been very nice to me since I took the job. He never mentioned his idea of going to China to do business again.

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 18, more than 90 practitioners from all over the country gathered in Seoul, South Korea and shared their experiences on clarifying the truth over the telephone.

In the morning, after sending forth righteous thoughts, a few fellow practitioners demonstrated clarifying the truth with live phone calls. Local practitioners were particularly eager to join the activity, and a few cellular and desk phones were used simultaneously. Other practitioners were sitting down and sending forth righteous thoughts. They just learned to say a few Chinese words, "How are you! I am a South Korean. Please remember: Falun Dafa is good, and Truthfulness-Benevolence- Forbearance is good, and you will have a bright future." Even though they only talked for a few seconds, and the pronunciation was not perfect, the listeners were quiet and finished listening to the entire message. Some called members of the local Chinese community, and the results were very good too.

A lot of practitioners joined the telephone group soon after it was founded. In the experience-sharing, fellow practitioners talked about the changes in their mentality and their experiences when clarifying the truth by telephone. One said that he always places a mirror next to him when he calls China, and has done so for the last few years. He looks at the mirror whenever he makes a call, and watches his own facial expressions and body language to make sure that he is not affected by his listeners' attitude. Through the continuous improvement by looking inside himself, he has become more confident and mature when clarifying the truth over the phone.

Practitioners agreed that studying the Fa and understanding the Fa were the only guarantees that truth clarification would be done more comprehensively, more thoroughly, and more strongly.

In the experience sharing, practitioners' speeches won sincere applause and even some tears. Although we here in Korea started late and have no experience in clarifying the truth via telephone, we are sure that all who participate will do so from the heart.

Greetings fellow practitioners!

Since April last year, I have been doing translations for a truth-clarifying website. I would like to tell you how I came to do this Dafa work and also some of my insights and experiences.

In August 2002, my fiancée (at that time a non-practitioner) and I traveled overseas to a foreign country. We wanted to travel and get some work experiences abroad. However, we found no job. Actually, that didn't bother me, because in some way I knew, that this journey was meant for my cultivation in the Fa rectification period. In the first week of living in that country, I contacted local practitioners and stayed with them for about 7 months. It also happened that my fiancée became a practitioner as well. Together with the local practitioners, we studied the Fa, practiced the exercises, sent forth righteous thoughts and clarified the truth. This had a big impact on both of us. I also studied different Dafa websites, because I wanted to get some ideas for my diploma in media education and therefore collect materials as well. During the whole time, I remembered parts of a dream I had before I went to the country. In this dream, Master told me, that I had to do and learn certain things in the country. I can't remember exactly, but one thing was, that I should learn the English language.

When I was back in my own country, I wanted to volunteer to do something for Dafa. The first time, I didn't live close to other practitioners and there was some difficulty to get truth clarification materials. So I thought that I should visit Dafa websites again. Fortunately, I found some articles with email addresses from the persecutors and was able to write emails to them to clarify the truth. Unfortunately, there were not email addresses posted on them that often, so I had to look for some other task I could do. I remembered the dream I had and indeed, I had learned more English. Then I wrote an email to a truth-clarifying website and expressed my wish, to volunteer to do translations of Chinese articles to English. Since then, I translate 3-5 articles daily. Most of them are about the persecution.

Next I would like to talk about some tribulations I experienced. When I received the first set of feedback for my translations, I reacted very sensitively. But I must also say, that at the same time I wanted to receive feedback to improve myself. The feedback came by email and only contained a few words. For example, the emails would say that this and that wording could be better and asked what my opinion would be or that I should read through my translations again, after I finished them. That sounds like nothing, but it hit some attachments of mine, for example, that my work wasn't able to be finished as perfect as I wanted it to be done. I also thought of doing less translation, in order to avoid the sting of criticism and to keep someone off my back. As a practitioner, I knew I shouldn't avoid conflicts. I tried to stay calm and improve my translations and of course raise my xinxing [moral character, mind nature]. Now, when I get feedback, I'm able to see that it's necessary in order to produce the best quality translations for Falun Dafa purposes, instead of being stuck in my emotions and self protection attachments.

When I began working on translations, the university semester hadn't started yet. I had more than enough time, but later, I felt that I started to have trouble balancing my time. I didn't attend as many university seminars as I wanted and I did not have much time for the people around me. Sometimes I again thought of doing less translation. Two good things happened that helped me out of this situation. My fiancée also started to do help me with the translations. When I was short of time, she made the first effort with the translations and I only had to proofread her work. Now she translates regularly. The other good thing was that a lecturer at the university offered me a job as his assistant. My fiancée and I decided that I should take this job. Now I have my own office and free access to the Internet. Thus I can translate articles in between seminars or whenever I have time. Without this job, I had to go home to do translations or wait a long time to get a free seat in a computer room. Having this job, studying media education and doing translations for a Dafa website give me a very good environment to validate the Fa and clarify the truth. For example when there are discussions about global communication and media or discussions about Internet communication, I have always something to say and can share my personal experiences.

I also remember a time, when I used being busy with translations as an excuse. Sometimes I didn't want to help with other efforts for Dafa or didn't want to do work together with particular practitioners. Of course, that was not good. I realized this attachment and impure mentality along with its bad influence on the translations and got rid off it.

Most of the time, my fiancée and I are a good team. But sometimes, there are conflicts between us. For example: She's not that experienced with English grammar and I always correct her texts, before we submit them. When her cultivation state isn't that good or she is preoccupied with a mental burden, she makes more mistakes. When I'm also not in a good cultivation state, I easily lose my temper. Sometimes it has been real demon nature that came out of my mouth. I always feel bad afterwards. She has helped me so much and at times, I have shown no compassion and no tolerance toward her. But things are improving. We are able to treat our conflicts as opportunities to realize our attachments and to improve our xinxing together.

From the feedback we received for our translations, we came to realize, that the quality of our texts is linked to our cultivation state. When we both aren't in a good cultivation state and working with a pure heart, there were more corrections. When we had studied the Fa well and were in the Fa, the feedback we received was good and there were nearly no corrections. The work is also done much faster and easier, when we think of the others that these articles are written about. That is, we want to give the practitioners persecuted in China a voice in another language through our work. We try to translate as well as possible in order to create less work for the practitioners who correct the articles, and we try to think of the readers, so that they have a good article to read and are able to understand the truth of the persecution against Falun Dafa. We came to understand, that we have a responsibility. Because we translate everyday, it's hard to meet this standard all the time, but we try.

We both regard doing translation work as our main task to assist Dafa. For us, everything seems to be arranged in this way: Our journey to the foreign country and the help and inspiration we received from local practitioners and the job at the university. We are thankful to Master for everything he has done for us. When I was in the foreign country one practitioner always reminded me of the three things we have to do now. I hope all of us are able to reach this standard and do what we are supposed to do.

In the section "Energy Field," of Lecture Three in the book Zhuan Falun, Teacher says, "We teach salvation of both ourselves and others, as well as of all beings. Thus, Falun can save oneself by turning inward and save others by turning outward. While turning outward, it gives off energy and can benefit others. This way, within your energy-covering field others will benefit, and they may feel very comfortable. Whether you are on the street walking, in the workplace, or at home, you can have this effect on others. People within your field may unintentionally have their illnesses healed since this field can rectify all abnormal conditions. A human body should not become ill, and being ill is an abnormal state. It can rectify this abnormal state. When an evil-minded person is thinking of something bad, this person might change his mind due to the powerful effect of your field; he might then no longer want to commit the wrongdoing. Perhaps a person wants to swear at someone. Suddenly, he may change his mind and will not want to swear. Only the energy field from cultivation practice in a righteous way can produce this effect. Therefore, in the past there was this saying in Buddhism: 'The Buddha-light illuminates everywhere and rectifies all abnormalities.' This is what it means."

Teacher also mentioned, "That's because with our Dafa disciples, if each person cultivates well, then, with every person corresponding to a cosmic body you'll cover the entire cosmos. That's why your sending righteous thoughts is so important." ("Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference" -- April 20, 2003)

Thus, I have enlightened to the following principle. Whether the state of everyday people's society is good or bad is directly tied to the xinxing [mind or heart nature, moral character] of each and every Dafa practitioner. If all of us can have a calm mind, study the Fa well, and do the three things taught by Teacher, then everything in everyday people's society will improve. This is because the energy field of Dafa cultivators can rectify all abnormal states, affecting everyday people's society and truly achieving the status of "the Buddha-light illuminating everywhere and rectifying all abnormalities." This can only be accomplished by practitioners who have reached the standard through self-cultivation. This is just like what Teacher said -- "Only the energy field from cultivation practice in a righteous way can produce this effect."

If Dafa practitioners understand this point and realize the responsibility of Fa-rectification disciples toward Dafa and all sentient beings, yet still cannot require themselves to maintain a calm mind and study the Fa, and still not do what Dafa disciples need to do, this would be a sin against Dafa and all beings.

We must not retain human concepts and notions and apply emotion or zeal to anything concerning Dafa, Fa-rectification, or salvation of sentient beings. Otherwise, our weakness may easily be exploited by the old forces and evil demons to cause damage to the integral image of Dafa. The above is my personal understanding. Please point out kindly if there is any deficiency.

(Clearwisdom.net) On December 31, 2003, three fellow practitioners and I sent forth righteous thoughts. I saw a very big ship on the shore. The sea was clear, and the water and sky looked as if they were connected in the distance. It was very beautiful. Many Dafa practitioners walked onto the ship from the shore. Teacher was standing at the front of the ship. After everyone stepped on board, the sails were raised and the ship began moving forward.

Soon dark clouds covered the sky, and the sea began turning darker and darker. Gusts of wind blew dark waves up very high and the ship started to shake. Huge waves became stronger and stronger. Most of the people stood steadily on the deck, and a few people ran towards the cabins in the center. Some of them accidentally fell into the sea. A huge wave came in and a huge monster broke the mast. More people fell into the sea. Teacher and the people on board reached out to save those in the water. Some climbed up onto the ship, some were pulled up onto the ship by Teacher and other people. Some people did not reach out for help and did not look up at the ship. Teacher and the people on board called out to them but they seemed as if they did not hear. They only concentrated on looking at the dark, dirty water.

Teacher changed the broken mast to a new gold one, and there was a shining golden character, "BUDDHA," on the sail. The ship was surrounded by Faluns, and then it turned into a golden ship. At this time, the people in the sea started to look back at the ship and raised up their hands. Teacher and the people on board also reached out to them. However, it was too late as the ship had already sailed too far away and could not reach them anymore.

The ship flew up towards the distant sky. The sky became clear, the sea became calm and clean, and everything was shining with a golden color.

(Clearwidsom.net) I was a criminal imprisoned in the Dalian Forced Labor Camp. I have finished my term and been released. While there, I witnessed the persecution inflicted on Falun Gong practitioners. I sympathize with them from depths of my heart. I was also once a so-called "teaching assistant" over there. Because of lack of understanding of Falun Gong, when I was first imprisoned I even slapped a Dafa practitioner's face. Due to slander from the television programs I felt that all Falun Gong practitioners were bad people. However, once I had personal contact with them, I gradually realized that they all were very kind people. There were lots of mosquitoes during summer but they never killed any mosquitoes. They told me that even a mosquito was also a life and that they did not kill anything. This trivial thing just proves that they could never kill any human being.

No one who had contact with them would ever say anything bad about them. They never accepted anything we wanted to give to them. Instead, they practiced austerity in every aspect, and they did their best to help others. Therefore I would also like to do my best to help them. I got along with them very well. Whenever I saw them enduring torture, I always asked for mercy for them from the persons who persecuted them. When other narcotics addicts asked me to beat them, I could hardly follow through the orders. If I was ordered to keep an eye on them to keep them standing up as punishment, I secretly let them sit down whenever it was possible.

On January 15, 2004, for the third time, the Changchun Intermediate Court held an unlawful trial at the Dehui Municipal Court, to illegally sentence thirteen Falun Dafa practitioners who were detained after having completed prior terms. After their trial, the thirteen practitioners were immediately transferred to prisons outside the city. Female practitioners were sent to Changchun Prison (details unknown) while male practitioners were detained at the No.2 Prison in Jilin Province. It was reported that practitioner Sun Qian's life is in great danger because he has been on hunger strike for over 100 days. The No.2 Prison would not accept him because of his medical condition. In spite of the danger to Sun Qian's life, the Dehui Public Security Bureau transferred Sun Qian to the No. 2 Prison the next day. A further investigation into this matter is being made.

Practitioners Yan Changjun and Kan Guihong from Huanxiling, Guoweichang of Panshan County were abducted by police while posting truth-clarifying flyers on the evening of January 9, 2004. Police from the Nanjingzi Border Defense Police Substation sent them to the Panshan Detention Center.

Kan Guihong was transferred to the Panjin Detention Center after a ten-day hunger strike to protest her illegal detention. At the Panjin Detention Center, she was force-fed.

Zhao Yonghua from Shenyang City, and Yuan Shuzhen from Fushun City, former Falun Gong practitioners who turned against Dafa under torture [collaborators], were hired at high pay levels by the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to assist in the brainwashing of Falun Dafa practitioners. They are completely opposed to Dafa, damaging Dafa and persecuting Dafa practitioners.

Masanjia Forced Labor Camp formally hired Zhao Yonghua as a guard with salary and Yuan Shuzhen as an unofficial associate police guard with a monthly stipend. The camp also hired other collaborators on a part-time basis. These people are scoundrels employed by Su Jing, the brutal head of the No.2 Women's Camp at Masanjia, to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. Other forced labor camps also hired collaborators to persecute Dafa practitioners. Although the collaborators are not in uniform, they rely on more deceptive tactics than the regular police guards.

On January 13, 2004, Henan Daily published an article defaming Falun Dafa and promoting a modern Yu style Opera they call, "Birthday". The opera was written by political staff from the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems], in association with the Provincial Intellectual Civilization Office, the Provincial Cultural Department and the Provincial Science Association. It was performed by the Leihe Art Group and the content was assigned by the "610 Office".

Since November 2003, the opera has been performed across the province. To this date, it has been performed 40 times in thirteen cities, including Luoyang and Lehe in the province. An audience of over 70,000 was directly harmed by the defamatory content. The news was published by Zhengzhou Net on January 14, by Henan Agricultural University Net on January 13, and by Henan Paper Net on January 13, 2004.

This news is from Dafa practitioners being detained in Weibei Prison, Weifang City, Shandong Province. This report is simply written although in fact, the persecution is far worse than described here. We hope that people of goodwill pay attention to it.

"Civil Transformation": At first, three to five hours of sleep were allowed, although not even one hour is allowed anymore.

"Violent Transformation": Beatings, abuse, threats, electric shocks to the head, solitary confinement, etc. In addition, seven electric prods were used to shock the key parts of the body in order to "transform" [brainwash] Falun Dafa practitioners until they renounce their belief, until the prods ran out of battery charge.

Dafa practitioners jailed at Weibei Prison request that international human rights organizations investigate the situation at the prison.

Mr. Li Bing, 35 years old, lives at Weigong Village of Haiding District. Police from the National Security Team in Chaoyang District arrested him in mid April 2002, simply because he practices Falun Dafa. At the same time, Ms. Wang, a teacher, was arrested as well. Her whereabouts are still unknown.

Li Bing was illegally sentenced to nine years in prison at Tongzhou District Court and is being detained at Jingshan Transit Line, Chadian Station (106-9) in Tianjin City. We hope that fellow practitioners will send forth righteous thoughts together to eliminate the vicious persecution in Beijing, strengthen clarification of the truth and expose the evil.

On January 8, 2004, Peninsula Morning News published an article titled "Dalian Reaches 'Zero' Over Term Detention" on page 12. It was reported that, "On December 19, 2003, the number of people who were detained beyond the completion of their terms dropped from a maximum of 144 to zero. When the article was published on January 7, 2004, there was not even one person being detained beyond their terms." "Usually, cases regarding prolonged detentions are handled by the Inspection Office at the labor camp. Cases concerning detentions of one year or more beyond the original term, are handled by the relevant department heads of the municipal inspection department who personally go to the labor camp. Cases of over term detention are punished severely and are dealt with by the chief procurator ."

Despite this, Falun Dafa practitioners are still being detained after completing their terms at Dalian Prison and in forced labor camps. The Dalian municipal government uses media outlets to publish fabricated stories in an attempt to cover up the crimes they have committed in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners.

Ms. Du Rongfang had been illegally detained in the Beijing Female Forced Labor Camp, where she was subject to all kinds of torture. Her initial term was extended by ten months simply because she would not renounce her belief. In November 2003, her extended term also came to an end. Officials at the forced labor camp informed the public security bureau in her hometown to pick her up and she was told that she would be sent back home. Instead, she was transferred to another detention place and subjected to intensive brainwashing.

The village governors and Party Secretaries recently attended a meeting at Shijiawu Township in Anci District. Xing Yongfa, Party Secretary of the Politics & Law Committee, spread lies at the meeting. He said, "Falun Gong practitioner X. X., will stage a self-immolation in Beijing during the Chinese Lunar New Year. Murderers can always wait but Falun Gong has to be dealt with first." He also forced the village authority and Party Secretaries to pressure practitioners financially (he held on to an agricultural subsidy of 2,000 yuan that was supposed to be given to the practitioners with farms), which severely interfered with practitioners' normal lives. Some practitioners were forced to leave their homes and became destitute.

Recently, practitioners in China have continued to clarify the truth, sending forth righteous thoughts and exposing the lies. At the same time, practitioners outside China make phone calls to further explain the truth to people in China. As a result, the evil factors are effectively suffocated and eliminated as in the following examples. Practitioners' children who had initially been denied admission to certain key high schools, even after passing their entrance examinations, have now been unconditionally accepted. Practitioners who had been persecuted at their work units by having their salaries and other pensions deducted are now treated differently. Their work unit leaders have suddenly changed their attitude towards them. Policemen keep changing their cellular and home phone numbers, saying, "Falun Gong is really something. They often call me from the United States, Canada, and Taiwan."

Practitioners in China will keep working together with fellow practitioners outside China to genuinely become one harmonious and indestructible body, displaying the power of Dafa, shocking and eliminating the evil forces, and saving more predestined sentient beings.

Practitioners who were sentenced to prison at Miyi Detention Center have been transferred to Muchuan Forced Labor Farm in Leshan City. (In the past, male practitioners were sent to Deyang.) Although Zhu Mingchun escaped during the transfer, he was later re-captured and sent to the forced labor farm. He was detained under strict supervision, and his situation is very serious. Wei Xiaojun is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Tongnan County. She had been detained twice at Majiashan Female Forced Labor Camp, Chongqing City. Because of the brutal persecution and her inadequate understanding of Dafa, she did something wrong. In March 2003, after escaping from the demon's den, she came back to the stream of Fa-rectification and devoted herself whole-heartedly to saving sentient beings. In June 2003, she was arrested together with practitioner Li Jian at Jiulongpo, Chongqing City. They have been detained at Jiulongpo Detention Center, where they have been on a hunger strike to protest their illegal detention. Her family members are not allowed to visit her, and it has been learned that the police are attempting to sentence her to prison. We hope that fellow practitioners send forth righteous thoughts to help her get out of the control the vile people.

Ms. Li Shuzhen, 58 years old, is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Yuhong District, Shenyang City. On January 15, 2004, police from Department One of Shenyang Public Security Bureau arrested her and her non-practitioner husband. Their living quarters were searched.

South China University of Technology has sent nearly ten practitioners employed at the university to brainwashing classes. Since July 20, 1999, about seven practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor by South China University of Technology. After the newly elected school authorities took their positions, they have recently revived the persecution of retired Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners are coerced into writing the so-called "Three Statements of Guarantee" and to give up their belief in Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.

Since January 11, 2004, Wucheng Public Security Bureau and the "610 Office" have detained over twenty Falun Gong practitioners in local detention centers. During this persecution, the county, towns and townships in the northeast have been actively involved. Among the detainees are Ms. Chu Guilin (around 50 years old), Zhao Zhihai's wife from Mayanzhuang in Wucheng Town, and Ms. Zhang (42 years old) from Lijiahu Township. 1) It has been learned that eight Falun Gong practitioners held in the Dalian City Prison in Liaoning Province are on a hunger strike to protest being subjected to brainwashing. Mr. Yang Chuanjun has been on hunger strike for at least a month and he is currently in critical condition.

2) Mr. Wang Quan is a Falun Gong practitioner from Qijiazi Town, Changtun County, Liaoning Province. Because he went to Beijing to appeal, he was arrested and detained at the Tieling City Labor Camp. After his one and a half year term of forced labor had expired, he was detained for an additional 15 months. Afterwards, he was sentenced to three years of forced labor again. Due to the torture he received, he has injuries all over his body; he has difficulty walking and his vision is blurred. His elderly parents and a 5-year-old child are left at home with no one taking care of them.

3) Tang Yanbin is the political security section chief of the Suiling Forest Bureau in Heilongjiang Province. Together with Du Jianping (the former detention center director), Tang has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners many times. They went to practitioners' homes to harass them. They forced practitioners to write pledges promising to give up cultivation. Tang Yanbin once brutally beat Ms. Duan Guiqing with a stick. Du Jianping ordered inmates to force feed Duan with pig excrement and subjected her to a variety of tortures. Another practitioner, Mr. Zhai Libin, was handcuffed and shackled and forced to sit on the cement floor. In June 2000, Du Jianping kicked Zhai Libin and Zheng Xuewei with his leather boots for over 30 minutes. They also took away the 10,000 yuan in cash Zhai had with him. Zheng Xuewei was forced to sit on the cement floor for 4 straight nights and he was also forced to eat pig excrement. Over a dozen practitioners had been fined by Tang Yanbin ranging from 1,500 yuan to 6,000 yuan.

4) Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, 44 practitioners in Shiting Town, Laishui County, Hebei Province have been arrested and detained in the local police department and detention centers. Some of the practitioners have been arrested on many occasions and detained for as long as two years. Some of them were brutally beaten and had their money stolen. Ms. Jiao Fenglan was tortured to death last May. Mr. Yan Hequan was illegally sentenced to 11 years in prison. Seven practitioners were sentenced to forced labor camps. Mr. Yan Yong, Ms. Zhang Fengzhi and Mr. Cheng Shuli are still being detained in the Baoding Labor Camp. Mr. Fang Yongzhen and Me. Zhang Shuqin has been detained for over 8 months and is still being detained.

5) On November 26, 2003, while visiting a fellow practitioner, Ms. Yang Bo from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province was abducted by the Rang District Police Department. She is currently held in the detention center where she is being subjected to torture. Her 70-year-old mother is paralyzed and receives no care. Her father also has difficulty taking care of himself without assistance.

Ms. Jiang Juming, resident of Tiexi Region, Anshan City, Liaoning Province, was steadfast in her belief of Falun Dafa and persisted in her cultivation. She was subjected to long periods of harassment and persecution by the local government officials. On many occasions she was detained without any valid reason, and subsequently sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. After she was released, she left home to avoid further persecution.

On November 2002, Tian Qiusheng, the Public Security Section Head of the Public Security Department of Jinzhou City, Hebei Province, together with policeman Wang Junqing, arrested Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhu Zhenjuan of Xiefotou village, Zongshizhuang town. They sent her to detention without any valid reason. Her husband was forced to pay six thousand yuan* in cash. During the period of detention, she was brutally persecuted and her family members were not permitted to visit her. On or about November 15, 2003, she was secretly put on trial and a seven-year sentence was imposed on her. [*yuan is Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 yuan].

On August 1, 2000, Fu Jiqiang, the Political Security Section Head of the Public Security Department, Jinzhou City. Hebei Province, and others deceived Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wu Chunran. They tricked her into going to the Jinzhou City Public Security Department. Without due process of law, Ms. Wu was sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp. She was sent to the Shijiazhuang forced labor camp for a medical examination, where she was found to be physically unfit and was rejected by the forced labor camp. Nevertheless, she was forced into temporary detention there for fourteen days by the police of the Public Security Department of Jinzhou City. While in detention, her family members were not informed. Her work unit was also not informed. As a result, her husband Lu Jiangang, who is handicapped, had to rush around everywhere to inquire about her whereabouts. Two young underage daughters were left at home to fend for themselves. Because the strain was too great, Lu Jiangang passed away.

The Political Security Section of the Public Security Department of Jinzhou City, Hebei Province, in collusion with ten police officers of the Zhoujiazhuang Police Station, charged into the office of the Changhong Costume Design and Production School and abducted Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Ru Ruixin. She was taken to the Public Security Department and forced to stand the whole night, and not allowed to sleep. She was required to write the "letter of guarantee" to abandon the practice of Falun Dafa. She was detained without any valid reason for half a month before being released. During the period when she was detained under duress, her school was closed, and the students were forced to leave. This caused extensive losses for both the school and the students.

Mr. Cao Liming, staff member of the Huludao Nanpiao Mining Planning Institute, Liaonig Province was sentenced to three years in prison by the Nanpiao regional court without due process. He was detained at the Nanpiao region detention center for a total of four months and then detained at the Nanshan prison in Jinzhou City for two weeks. On March 8, 2002, Cao Liming was transferred to the Second Prison in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. On October 31, he completed his prison term of three years, but was again abducted and taken to the Nanpiao detention center, and held there for two weeks. The police demanded three hundred and fifty yuan as payment for his food, and tried to extort three thousand yuan from his family members. The family members did not have sufficient funds and only paid one thousand five hundred yuan.

In 1999, Ms. Liu Guiqin from Baojiaying village, Taibaozhaung town, Changyi City, Shandong Province, went to Beijing to appeal. Upon returning, she was abducted and taken to the detention center, where she was persecuted for fifteen days and fined three thousand yuan. On November 12, 2003, Liu Guiqin was again abducted and taken to the detention center, and fined one thousand yuan. Mr. Zhang Guiqin, secretary of the Taibaozhuang Town, Maguan village Brigade, Weifang Changyi City, Shandong Province, has been severely persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners since July 20. He arranged the monitoring and surveillance of Falun Dafa practitioners. He often fabricated things to report to the police in order to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners.

My name is Wang Xi, a female Dafa practitioner. I was an accountant from the Shihezi School of Commerce in Xinjiang. Because I have remained steadfast in my beliefs, I was detained on many occasions and twice sent to forced labor camps. On two occasions when I was very weak, I was forcibly taken to the Shihezi brainwashing center. Because I refused to abandon my belief, I was again sentenced to a forced labor camp for three years. I went on a hunger strike in protest after being in the camp for six months. I was released and went home. While I was detained at the Wulapo forced labor camp in Xinjiang and the Xinjiang Female forced labor camp, I and many other Falun Gong practitioners suffered severe torture, to the point where our lives were in imminent danger. My husband paid a huge sum of money on my account. He later left me as a result of the persecution.

During the second session of the violent brainwashing that was in progress for seventy days at the Masanjia forced labor camp in Liaoning Province, the Falun Dafa practitioners there went through the most savage torture. Because the event was closely guarded, people outside the camp were not aware of the persecution that was happening within, but the Falun Dafa practitioners who walked past the canteen or the sports ground could hear the screams and cries from the reception center. The police even dragged the Dafa practitioners out of the rooms and left them in the freezing cold of more than ten degrees Celsius below zero [below 14^oF], dressed only in a single layer of autumn clothing. They were left there till their bodies were trembling and were only allowed into the building after their bodies were turning purple. After a few moments they were again dragged into the freezing cold.
