Publish date: 25 March 2003
Amnesty International is launching today (25 March 2003) a new
Chinese-language website www.endtorture.org
as part of its international Campaign against Torture.
More on this Web site:
"We hope to reach people in mainland China as well as Chinese-speaking
communities all over the world through the documentation available on this
site," Amnesty International said.
The main focus of the web site is on the prevention of torture but it will
also cover wider human rights issues. The site contains articles, reports and
other information to raise awareness about torture, including human rights news
from Amnesty International on all parts of the world. It also provides human
rights campaigning materials, links to material about torture from other
organizations.
"We hope the Chinese audience will view the website as a valuable resource to
raise awareness about the need to prevent torture and ill-treatment; and to
contribute to the campaign within China to stamp out torture once and for all,"
Amnesty International said.
The website will be updated regularly. It will be a vital resource for
academics, lawyers, journalists, students and others interested in human rights
issues. The web site can be accessed from today at the following address: http://www.endtorture.org
