School Teacher Ms. Liu Yuhong Dies as a Result of Police Persecution

Ms. Liu Yuhong, a schoolteacher in her thirties at Nanshan No.2 High School in Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, endured relentless persecution in her workplace. She refused school officials' repeated attempts to force her to give up her belief in Falun Gong, so the officials removed her from her job.

On the evening of April 16, 2002, Gongnong Police searched Ms. Liu Yuhong's home in a mass roundup of Falun Gong practitioners. Three practitioners, Ms. Liu Yuhong, her older brother Mr. Liu Zhenchang, and Zhang Hua were all taken away. A week later, Ms. Liu Yuhong's sister Liu Yixia was also picked up as the mass arrest campaign continued.

Liu Zhenchang was sentenced to ten years in prison. The others were sent to forced-labor camps. Ms. Liu Yuhong immediately began a hunger strike in protest. When given a medical examination due to her declining health, it was determined that she had a heart condition. Fearing her death, the labor camp authorities released Ms. Liu Yuhong in May 2002.

The police continued to harass Ms.Liu and her family, and she passed away from the heart condition developed while in the forced-labor camp on August 20, 2002.

Persecution at Qinghai Province's Women's Labor Camp Kills Ms. Tan Yingchun

Ms. Tan Yingchun (46) was a biology teacher at Kunlun Middle School in Xining City, Qinghai Province. In 2000, she was arrested and served a year in the Duoba Women's Labor Camp, in Qinghai Province.

In the spring of 2001, Ms. Tan Yingchun traveled to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She was arrested and held in a Tianjin City detention center, where she endured harsh treatment. In attempts to coerce her to reveal her name, Liu Yingchun was stripped naked and tied to a metal bed (also known as a "death bed") while police heaped ice onto her body and left it there to melt.

After months in custody in Tianjin, Ms. Tan Yingchun was sentenced to three years of forced labor in the Xiashilipu Women's Labor Camp in her hometown of Xining City, Qinghai Province.

She was locked up in a cell with over 30 collaborators (so-called "reformed" practitioners) in attempts to brainwash her and force her to renounce her practice of Falun Gong. She staunchly refused to be brainwashed, so her captors began to torture her brutally. In December 2002, Ms. Tan Yingchun died as a result.

In order to cover up their crimes, the police claimed that Ms. Tan Yingchun had committed suicide, and they fabricated a series of lies to back up their story. They also attempted to force other practitioners being held captive in the labor camp to sing to Ms. Tan's dead corpse, however, the practitioners firmly refused. To deceive the public, the Kunlun Middle School (where Ms. Tan had been employed) held a funeral for Ms. Tan, claiming that she had died from natural causes.

Intense Torture Leads to a Young Man's Death

Mr. Ding Feng (29) from Wujin Town, Chengdu City, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in November of 2001. For his peaceful appeal, Mr. Ding Feng was sentenced to two years of forced labor in Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Mianyang City.

Seeing Ding Feng's health deteriorate from the torture inflicted on him, camp officials released him for medical reasons. Fortunately Mr. Feng's health recovered, however in December 2002, Xinjin County policeman Zhang Lin sought Mr. Ding Feng out. To avoid arrest, Mr. Feng was forced to flee his home.

In January 2003, Mr. Ding Feng was again arrested and sent back to Xinhua Forced Labor Camp. The police again tortured Ding Feng to the edge of death. Realizing the rapid deterioration of Ding Feng's health that they had caused, the police released him in February 2003. Ding Feng died two days later in his home.

Police in Huanxiling Labor Camp in Jilin Province Murder Practitioner Chen Yongzhe

Sources in China confirm that Mr. Chen Yongzhe's incarceration at Jilin Province's Huanxiling Forced Labor Camp began March 8, 2001 with the guards stealing all blankets from the bed, leaving him with only bare wooden boards to sleep on in the late winter chill.

On April 27, 2001, Captain Xu Xuequan, and guards Wang, Cui, and Pan began to torture the practitioners in the camp. Cries were heard echoing from the torture room. The guards began to torture Mr. Chen Yongzhe that evening. As a result, Mr. Yongzhe's face was black and blue, his mouth and chin badly swollen. He could not even wash his face. He had endured two and a half hours of torture.

Two days later, Chen Yongzhe went to ask the guards in the torture room to stop torturing practitioners. The guards became enraged and tied Mr. Yongzhe to the bed. Five guards tortured Chen Yongzhe, each with an electric baton, for three hours. Chen Yongzhe's body was burned in many places, his neck covered in blisters. Chen Yongzhe's health took a serious turn for the worse at this point.

On June 12, 2001 the guards at Huanxiling Labor Camp took Chen Yongzhe for a medical examination. Cheng Yongzhe was found to have a serious case of pulmonary tuberculosis. Seeing that Mr. Yongzhe was near death, they released him for "medical treatment".

Chen Yongzhe never recovered from the mistreatment he received in the camp. He died in his home on May 14th 2002. He was 34 years old.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa (about), is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." It is a practice that was taught in private for thousands of years before being made public in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzhi. Falun Gong has roots in traditional Chinese culture, but it is distinct and separate from other practices such as the religions of Buddhism and Taoism. Since its introduction in 1992, it quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China, and is now practiced in over 50 countries.

With government estimates of as many as 100 million practicing Falun Gong, China's President Jiang Zemin outlawed the peaceful practice in July 1999 (report), fearful of anything touching the hearts and minds of more citizens than the Communist Party. Unable to crush the spirit of millions who had experienced improved health and positive life changes from Falun Gong, Jiang's regime has intensified its propaganda campaign to turn public opinion against the practice while quietly imprisoning, torturing and even murdering those who practice it.

The Falun Dafa Information Center has verified details of 610 deaths (reports / sources) since the persecution of Falun Gong in China began in 1999. Government officials inside China, however, report that the actual death toll is well over 1,600, while expert sources estimate that figure to be much higher. Hundreds of thousands have been detained, with more than 100,000 being sentenced to forced labor camps, typically without trial.

FDI: Practitioner Song Xu Tortured To the Verge of Death - Fellow Practitioners Call for Urgent Rescue (Photos)

Falun Dafa Information Center (Originally Reported in Chinese) March 10, 2003 -- According to latest news from Henan Province, on November 10, 2002, Henan Agricultural University alumnus, 29-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Song Xu was abducted a fifth time by the local police officers. He suffered terrible tortures and his health is in a desperate condition. In early January 2003, he was sent to Jinshui Hospital for medical treatment. Around February 10, he was sent to an emergency room for rescue and he has been there for more than 20 days up to present. Overseas Falun Gong practitioners call for an urgent rescue of Song Xu.

It was reported that after Song Xu was abducted by the police on November 10, 2002, he went on hunger strike to protest. The jail guards of the First Detention Center of Zhengzhou City under the Jinshui Public Security Sub-Bureau of Zhengzhou City violently force-fed him for a number of times. As a consequence, the skin inside his mouth jabbed repeatedly, and his teeth were prized open so forcefully that they were loosened. In early January 2003, Song Xu was sent to Jinshui Hospital. However, the related authorities feared that the details would be disclosed and then transferred Song Xu to another sickroom the next day. No news was heard thereafter. Now it has been verified that Song Xu was sent to an emergency room around February 10. The authorities spare no effort to block the news. The current status is not clear.

The reporter called the Jinshui Hospital countless times. Two people from the internal medicine department said that Song was at the surgery department, while people from surgery department denied it a few times. According to insiders from the Jinshui Hospital, the hospital is not very large and has only one internal medicine and one surgery department. Patients will be sent to the surgery department if thef the internal medicine department can not hold them.

Song's family members are extremely worried. They said that they had not had any news about Song Xu for over three months. Being extremely concerned about Song, his mother became very ill. It was reported that the police officers once threatened: According to documented regulation from above, death due to hunger strike or force-feeding is considered as committing suicide.

On January 17, FDI reported details about the brutal persecution suffered by Song Xu:

In February 2001, after Song Xu was arrested a fourth time at the Zhengzhou railway station, he was wrongfully sentenced to two years of forced labor re-education. He was imprisoned in the Fifth Brigade of the Baimiao Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou. A deputy mayor of Zhengzhou said, "We must transform Song Xu!" During the imprisonment, Song Xu suffered appalling tortures: The jail guards instigated the criminal inmates to fore-feed him with hot pepper water and high concentrated salt solution, to wipe burning ground chili pepper paste into his eyes, and use very thick and dirty tube for nasal force feeding. Once during a force-feeding, they even tore his moth badly. In order to score points with the authorities to get his sentence reduced, a drug abuser, He Suizhu brutally tortured Song Xu. He tied up Song Xu's whole body with ropes, then tightly wrapped him with a quilt, covered his head with a helmet and put a piece of dirty cloth into his mouth. Song was not allowed to move or turn his body all day long. He Suizhu, once squatted in front of Song Xu, spit in Song Xu's face, cursed him with all kinds of words and slapped his face for as long as four hours. He Suizhu used to stand on Song Xu's chest, pressing down hard and he even forcibly inserted a drumstick into Song Xu's rectum.

According to the report, during the 80 days of Song Xu's hunger strike, his body weight dropped to about 25 kilograms (about 57 lbs) and his life was in danger. His kidneys, intestines and stomach had suffered serious damage due to long-term torture. As a result of being tied up for several weeks, Song Xu lost the ability to walk as his calf muscles had become atrophied. The Baimiao Forced Labor Camp had to inform Song's family to finish the paper work to release him on bail for medical treatment.

On November 10, 2002, Song Xu was once again illegally arrested by the police officers and has been jailed up to the present.

Experiences Of A 15-Year-Old High School Student Suffering From the Persecution

Tie Long, of Shao Village, Liu Chun Town, in Dingzhou City, Hebei province, is 15 years old. Before the 16^th Communist Party Congress was held last year, he was spreading the Fa to his teacher using a CD and other truth-clarification materials. For this, his schoolteacher reported him. Liuchun Police arrested Tie Long and took him to the town government building, where he was handcuffed to a tree and beaten up by the police until they were tired. They left to take a break, and Tie Long managed to escape using righteous thoughts.

Tie Long was forced to wander around homeless to avoid being persecuted. Officials arrested Tie Long's older brothers, uncles, aunts, all of them, and they were brutally beaten as police attempted to track down young Tie Long. His uncle can't get out of bed because of this, he can't take food properly, nor look after himself.

Young Tie Long made his way to his grandmother's home, but he didn't dare stay there for long. He left in a hurry, as he didn't want to get his grandma into trouble. The police followed him and came to his grandmother's home later. They beat his uncle and aunt badly, then broke into their store and ransacked it. When they asked where they could find Tie Long, his aunt said: "I don't know." The police then took his aunt away to the detention center, and she still hasn't been released. Soon after, they arrested Tie Long. He was detained at the Dingzhou Detention Center.

Before the Chinese New Year, the police released Tie Long's father, and asked him to pay 10,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] to them to release Tielong. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, their home has been ransacked several times, and there is little left to give, so Tie Long's father couldn't give them any money, and Tielong wasn't released. Out of a family of four happy members in the past, three of them are now suffering badly in prison.

Practitioner Wang Jianhui, Morning News Anchor at Tangshan Radio, Is Put Under House Arrest

Wang Jianhui, Dafa practitioner and distinguished broadcaster and anchorman of the Morning News at Tangshan Radio, was arrested on December 24, 2000 for appealing for justice for Falun Dafa in Beijing. He was imprisoned in a forced labor camp for two years, during which time he was tortured. There were times when he was tied down, his limbs bound with ropes that cut deeply into his flesh and veins. A guard was standing beside, monitoring the time to ensure that the torture did not exceed five minutes. Wang would die if it did. Wang was also battered with electric batons and was not allowed to sleep for a long period of time. In November 2002, Wang was released. However, since he refused to write a "guarantee statement" to denounce Falun Gong, the heads of his work unit planned to send him to a brainwashing center, then later decided to put Wang under house arrest in Tangshan Broadcasting Station. During the Chinese New Year, Wang was allowed to go home briefly to spend the holidays with his family only after he and his family wrote to guarantee that Wang would not go to Beijing to appeal during the holidays. Wang is currently still under house arrest.

Li Qingshan and Xiong Guoxiang are responsible for the house arrest of Wang Jianhui. We appeal to practitioners abroad to clarify the truth about Falun Gong.

We, Falun Dafa practitioners from Victoria, respectfully request your urgent attention to the plight of Mr. and Mrs. Wang who were near to being deported back to China yesterday in Sydney. Since they practice Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) they would face persecution for their practice. This applies to anyone who practices this system, in fact there have been instances where even children have suffered from persecution including death by torture.

Please reconsider their case regardless of any previous decision. The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China is not incidental or because of a few misguided public officials but is systematic and the official policy instigated by Jiang Zemin.

A law suit has been filed with the United States of America Federal Court to bring Jiang Z. to justice for crimes against humanity against people who practice Falun Gong. Legal action has also been filed the with the United Nations Committee Against Torture and the UN Human Rights Committee.

Considering the abovementioned facts, we request you to grant Mr. and Mrs. Wang further consideration for an asylum. We have been informed that you have indeed received ample evidence as to the severity of the situation with regards to the plight of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

This tragedy has to date led to the deaths of many people, however due to the fact that revealing (the circumstances behind) a death is classified as revealing state secrets, the Falun Dafa Information Centre based in the US has only been able to document the deaths of 610 people, while other sources within the Chinese government have confirmed over 1600 have died and 100,000 are in labour camps.

We urge yourself and all members of Parliament to extend a helping hand and safeguard the lives of innocent people. The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is a stain on China's history; please do not let our country be among those who chose to uphold the unethical and cruel dictates of a state terrorist such as Jiang Zemin.

Dear Minister Ruddock,

I have noticed recently that a story is unfolding, which given the current course of events may result in the incarceration and deaths of a number of innocent people. I am referring to the Falun Gong practitioners Mr Jun Tao Wang and Mrs Li Luan Wang who are being held in the Villawood detention centre - awaiting deportation to China.

Over the past year I have come to know several Falun Gong practitioners. I have found them to be unusually kind, responsible and peace loving people. They follow their practice to improve their health and morality. To me they are the kind of people that should be welcomed by any country, as visitors or as members of society. This Tuesday, however, Mr and Mrs Wang were taken from the detention centre and put on a plane to be deported to China. Only a heart attack prevented them from being sent back. You may ask, "So why shouldn't they be sent back to China?"

I think to understand the ramifications of deporting Falun Gong practitioners to China, it is important to consider the situation that has developed in China over the last decade:

• In 1992 Falun Gong was first introduced to the Chinese public. Being a traditional qigong exercise practice with high moral requirements, it became popular and spread quickly.
• In 1998, the Chinese Government conducted a survey to find out how many people were practising Falun Gong. The survey showed that over 70 million people had started practising Falun Gong in less than 7 years.
• In July 1999 Chairman Jiang Zemin set up a group in the Bureau or Security known as the "6-10 Office" specifically to target the Falun Gong practice. The office was given orders to "defame them, destroy them financially and eliminate them physically"(1).
• The 6-10 Office was given authority over all areas of the government including judiciary, military, police, and municipal and regional governments.
• The 6-10 Office distributed orders to police and detention centres all over the nation such as that "there will be no punishment for torturing Falun Gong practitioners to death. Practitioners tortured to death will be recorded as suicide cases"(2); and to "shoot on sight" any Falun Gong practitioners seen handing out or posting Falun Gong fliers in China3.
• Since July 1999, more than an estimated 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally detained, and over 20,000 have been sentenced up to 18 years "re-education through labour" camps without due process1.
• Falun Gong practitioners are physically abused, beaten and tortured in the labour camps. Over 500 practitioners have died in custody5, a figure that the Chinese government confirms as "suicide".
• Police have been ordered to "...not identify the body. Cremate locally." (2), thereby preventing family members from seeing evidence of abuse.

Mr and Mrs Wang have both directly experienced persecution because they practice Falun Gong. In 1999, Mr Wang was arrested at his home and sent to ChengMai detention centre in Hainan province. There he was asked to write a letter denouncing Falun Gong, and when he refused he was slapped in the face and told that they would not allow him to leave the centre until he died. He was tortured on the leg with an electric baton until he lost consciousness.

Mrs Wang went to the detention centre to appeal for her husband's release. She was also detained and beaten, being released eleven days later. Mr Wang was eventually released. After their release their personal ID was confiscated and they were required to report to a police station every day. They were not allowed to travel more than one kilometre from their home.

One month later, Mr Wang's brother-in-law was arrested and detained, and in March 2000 he died after returning home from the detention centre. Later that year Mr Wang's brother was sentenced to one year in a labour camp. In February 2001 a friend told Mr and Mrs Wang that the police were searching for them and planned to arrest them again. Mr and Mrs Wang hid at a relative's place and left for Australia again in April 2001.

If Mr and Mrs Wang were sent back to China, what would happen? Would they be allowed to live as free citizens? Or would they again be detained and subjected to brutal "re-education"? I think the second outcome is far more likely. If this happens, I feel we have failed to do our duty to protect those who cannot return to their own country, "owing to a well founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion"(4).

I sincerely hope you can have the heart to listen and help Mr and Mrs Wang regain their freedom by supporting their application for asylum. I feel this is quite an urgent matter and hope you can help to expedite a positive outcome.

Letter from Ireland Friends of Falun Gong to Australian Authorities

I am writing to you as a representative of the Friends of Falun Gong in Ireland to express extreme concern for the safety of Mr. Wang Juntao (66) and his wife Mrs. Wang Liluan (62), who are due to be deported back to China.

Mr. and Mrs. Wang are Falun Gong practitioners. Three years ago, Mr. Wang's brother in law was tortured to death for practicing Falun Gong. Three and a half years ago, Mr. Wang himself was knocked unconscious as a result of electric shock torture by Chinese prison guards. He had been arrested while having a meal with his brother and son. When Mrs. Wang arrived at the detention centre to appeal for her husband, she too was arrested. When they were released after a month, their identification was confiscated.

Since they managed to escape to Australia, the Chinese authorities have ransacked their house without warrant and fired their son from his job. It is an undoubted fact that the Chinese authorities will be aware of the Wang's status as Falun Gong practitioners. It is also an undoubted fact that on return to China they will both be liable to arrest, detention, and torture in a labor camp. The fact that this is happening in China to Falun Gong practitioners on a regular basis is extremely well documented. As has been admitted by Chinese officials, a minimum of 1,600 practitioners have died as a result of this torture, and the real figure is certainly much higher.

To read what is happening to Falun Gong practitioners in detention centers and labor camps is extremely harrowing. To hear somebody recounting their experiences of such torture first hand is doubly so. I have heard first hand a practitioner from Ireland, Zhao Ming, describe his experiences during his 22 months of detention without trial in a Chinese labor camp for practicing Falun Gong. As somebody who is also a long-time member of Amnesty International, I can honestly say that the torture that he and other Falun Gong members have been exposed to, is as severe as any experienced by victims of torture anywhere in the world at any time.

Mr. and Mrs. Wang were due to be deported earlier today, but were allowed off the plane by a flight attendant who discovered that Mr. Wang has a heart condition. I am asking you, on behalf of all the Falun Gong practitioners here in Ireland, to reconsider their request for humanitarian leave to remain in Australia. I must also remind you that to return the Wangs to the detention and torture they would face in China is contrary to the non-refoulement clause in both the Geneva Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

I am appealing to you, on behalf of Friends of Falun Gong in Ireland, to treat the Wangs in a fair and sympathetic manner, as befits their age and state of health, as well as the risk they face, and not to send them back to China. I hope that you will listen to this plea.

The Falun Dafa Association of Hong Kong held an open forum yesterday opposing Article 23, and invited religious organizations, democratic organizations, human rights organizations, other organizations opposing Article 23 and politicians to express their viewpoints on Article 23. Law Yuk-kai, Director of Hong Kong Human Rights Monitor, began his speech saying, "Actually we human rights activists admire you (Falun Dafa practitioners) very much, because you are so united, so firm under such a difficult situation. If all people who fight for democracy and human rights were like you, the situation would be much different. Luckily, even if we do not do that well, you will do well for us.

Closed-door Hearings Held in Absentia

Law Yuk-kai reported that, in the last few days before submissions for the public consultation on Article 23 ended December 24 last year, the People's Human Rights Coalition (comprised of more than 50 organizations against Article 23) received almost 100,000 public statements opposing this article. The hard work of Falun Dafa practitioners quickly brought this number up to 170,000. The effort was not in vain, as the Hong Kong government did respond positively to some of the clauses proposed in Article 23, but those crucial to Falun Dafa practitioners became worse. The government will be allowed to conduct closed-door interrogations without producing any evidence when dealing with groups banned in Mainland China, and will also be able to conduct "hearings" without the accused or his/her legal counsel in attendance. This, they would call "justice."

No One Can Feel Safe

Law Yuk-kai pointed out that the Tung Chee-hwa government, and even the Chinese Central government said they would "manage the country with law." They need to concoct an excuse to "deal with" certain people, including Falun Dafa practitioners. With the kind of law proposed, no one can feel safe.

He further expressed that the newspapers are full of positive reports about the proposed legislation, but no information on opposition can be found because the media is afraid to report it. Once the media is in fear, the scholars are in fear, and once every one that involved in politics and public affairs is in fear, the society will immediately be completely different. Hong Kong citizens should guard their own space with the participation of the whole of society. We should all make further efforts to make sure everyone in Hong Kong is aware of this.

"The Devil is In the Details"

Law Yuk-kai said that the draft of Article 23 has been put forth, but many details are problematic. As Hong Kong Legislative Council member Martin Lee said, "the devil is in the details". Because the government is controlling people according to the law, it is easy to find something against you. Falun Dafa practitioners can personally attest to this. Even if we change the law to better represent people, if the government does not have a concept of law or human rights, it can always "invent a charge to condemn you."

Law Yuk-kai finished, saying "it is pitiful that there is no democratic system to protect citizen's rights and freedom, and even the final judgment within the legal system can not protect people's rights."

International Human Rights Resolution: "Rebellion is Reasonable"

Subversive activity holds a special position in International Human Rights Resolutions. The prefaces of International Human Rights Resolution, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights all state clearly that if the government does not protect legal freedom and basic human rights, people will be forced to risk danger in desperation against this violence. Rebellion is reasonable if the government does not protect people's rights, and uses power to suppress people. Law Yuk-kai expressed his wishes that everyone join efforts to change the government so that democracy can one day appear, and give people more protection. Otherwise, he believes more legal rebellion will occur.

Finland Falun Dafa Association Appeals to Hong Kong Officials Regarding Article 23

Dear Hong Kong officials,

I am writing on behalf of the Finland Falun Dafa Association. We have been following closely the situation in Hong Kong regarding the new draft of Article 23. You may be aware, that many governments and associations around the world are very worried for the future of Hong Kong in the event of the regime adopting this draft. Why are they worried? They feel that Article 23 will be used against certain groups or people who are seen as a "threat" by the Chinese government, instead of it really being used to safeguard national security. In Finland for example, our country's biggest newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, reported that, "Hong Kong is preparing laws that will slate human rights."

Why do I write you? Because you can really make a difference for the future of Hong Kong by voting against Article 23. It is obvious to all of us, that behind this legislation there is pressure from the leaders in Beijing, who want to get a stronger grip on Hong Kong. For example, they have been trying to eradicate Falun Gong for the last three and half years in Mainland China, which is reported to be the biggest human rights violation against one group of people in the world today. However in Hong Kong Falun Gong can be practiced freely without any harassment. Authorities from the central government have openly expressed their will to ban Falun Gong in Hong Kong too.

Falun Gong teaches people to become good persons with higher ethics and morality. Based on the principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance it is really guiding people to become better and healthier. This has brought so many benefits to many societies, including China and Hong Kong. Do you really think that it's wise to follow pressure from Beijing to implement new laws, which can lead Hong Kong towards state terrorism? It is really inconceivable why a government would be willing to ban something that raises morality and gives good health -- more than that, they are ready to even torture these people to death in order to have them "give up."

Despite the repression and persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have not given up. And we will not give up until this persecution is ended, and justice has happened. It is widely known in the world what Falun Gong is -- they all know it is a wonderful thing. Did you know that the Chinese government supported Falun Gong before 1999? Falun Gong has won hundreds of awards and proclamations for it's free teachings that have offered righteous principles and guidance for over 100 million people in more than 60 countries. And every day new people are coming to learn.

Falun Gong has been banned and persecuted in China for the last three and half years. The Chinese government has used every possible means to eradicate this peaceful practice. What are the results? According to human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, the United Nations and the European Union, over 100,000 people have been illegally sent to labor camps, thousands into mental hospitals and prisons and hundreds have died for torture in the custody of Chinese authorities, solely because they refuse to denounce their firm belief in the principles of Falun Gong: Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. This campaign for eradicating Falun Gong by the Chinese government has been strongly condemned by most countries in the West. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland brought up concerns for Falun Gong practitioners during his last visit in China. Attacking non-violent people, who only wish to live moral and peaceful lives, using means that seriously violate basic human rights, and defaming the public with fabricated stories in the media -- this is totally unacceptable everywhere in the world today, and it will be judged by history sooner or later.

We really hope that you can think about this issue seriously from all perspectives. If the new laws are adopted, it means the end for Hong Kong's democracy and civil rights -- we can then forget about the "One country, two systems".

Are you ready to let the people of Hong Kong face state terrorism against Falun Gong, as in Mainland China? Have you considered what the outside world will think of legislation, which can ruin their businesses, their financial investments or just their holidays in Hong Kong, because their ideology, thinking or religion is not in fit with that of the leadership in China? What can be a national threat to society is definitely not freedom of speech or conscience, but a lack of justice and kindness in the minds of the country's leadership.

At the moment Jiang Zemin and the "610" office have been sued in court for genocide in the US. Please do not support the new law that allows for Jiang's terrible human rights atrocities to take place in Hong Kong. Please support the righteousness and justice for these are what all people feel is most important. This will definitely create a more wonderful and happier future for you too.

I love you. All your friends and practitioners love you. We stand by you all the time, everywhere.

Remember in March 2002 before I went to Texas, you told me: "Don't ask any questions, just come to my place. You do it right now." Today I will say the same thing to you. Let's keep this in mind all the time:

The current moment is crucial. This is an evil scoundrel government. They should not have the power to decide anything. Their lawyers cannot decide anything. The evil regime has offered to let us get a lawyer to defend you. We will not be cheated. This is simply going to be another show trial, just like many show trials in the past for the regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners "legally." We don't recognize their arrangements and tricks.

How can I choose a lawyer for you knowing all of this? In China, who dares to act against the will of the government? How much true information can foreign lawyers obtain through such a system? The evil regime is merely trying to start a show to persecute a U.S. citizen! And at the meanwhile, they are trying to fool the U.S. government as well.

We both let Chinese government know: their tricks cannot work. We both let the U.S. government know: let's not be fooled by the regime's common tactics. The brutal and inhumane means and tools that the regime has used in the persecution of Falun Gong are beyond people's imagination. We need America's help, not in terms of following their tricks, but getting you back first, back to America and back to me.

Darling, all of us care so much about you. You mean a lot to us. We all stand by you until you are free. Practitioners from around the U.S. held a very successful rally in front of the State Department last week. An organization "Friends of Charles Li" and a web site www.RescueCharles.org were set up. We have submitted more than 30,000 signatures to the U.S. government.

You shouldn't have been arrested or tried in the first place, my darling. You didn't do anything wrong. The Chinese Consulate official in San Francisco said on Channel 26 commenting on your case that overseas practitioners shouldn't go to China during the Chinese New Year to add burden to the already busy police; that they are in control of a list of overseas practitioners. It is so obvious that you are on the list. We will do everything to get you back.

Your representatives, your friends, many Americans, and all Falun Dafa practitioners around the world care about you, and we are all standing by you as one body. We send forth righteous thoughts for you. The unfair arrangements are not acceptable. My darling, you have the right to deny such unfair arrangements and the unfair trial. Re: We are to be deported to face persecution in China because we Falun Gong practitioners

Many thanks to your concern and support about our current situation.

After our protection visa application has been continuously rejected by the Australian Department of Immigration, we were both to be deported to China on Tuesday 11 March 2003 where we will face persecution as Falun Gong practitioners. The health condition of one of us (Mr Wang) delayed the process. However, we are still being re-scheduled for deportation.

Both of us were detained in China because of our practice of Falun Gong prior to our escape to Australia in April 2001. Mrs Liluan WANG's brother was persecuted to death in March 2000, one of the more than 600 confirmed death cases since the persecution started in July 1999. Mr Juntao Wang's brother was sentenced to forced labour camp in December 2000.

A Few Words: Our Hearts in Approaching Government Officials in The Wang Case

ABC (Australia): Falun Gong Couple Seek Clemency To Avoid Persecution In China

13-03-2003

The Falun Dafa Association of New South Wales says a Chinese couple who [were scheduled to be] deported from Australia will certainly suffer persecution when they return to their homeland.

Falun Gong practitioners 66-year-old Wang Jun Tao and 62-year-old Wang Liluan have failed to gain refugee status and the Department of Immigration says they must return to China.

John Deller from the Falun Dafa Association says a misunderstanding meant the couple missed out on the opportunity of applying to the Refugees Review Tribunal and that opportunity should be given to them again.

"So we ask Mr Ruddock to please use his discretion under section 48B of the migration act to show clemency in this case at least ot allow them somehow to come before the RRT so their case can be heard," he said.

Japan: Practitioners Appeal in Front of the Parliament Building to Rescue Yoko Kaneko (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) Since March 10, 2003, Japan Falun Dafa practitioners have been appealing in front of the Japanese parliament building once again to call on Japanese government and the entire Japanese community to help rescue Yoko Kaneko. Many practitioners came here to hand out newspaper, collect signatures and clarify the truth. Several elderly Dafa practitioners come early every morning, hanging Dafa banners and remaining until the evening.

A large banner bearing the words SOS in bright red, words appealing to the Japanese government to rescue Yoko Kaneko (who is illegally detained in China) in blue, and a bright yellow background, attracted the attention of many people who come to Parliament. Many Members of Parliament, officials and passersby accepted materials and signed their names to rescue Yoko Kaneko. We believe that this appeal will again rapidly spread the message of rescuing Yoko Kaneko to all over Japan.

The practitioners made good use of the time studying the Fa and exchanging experiences so as to improve together as a whole from the perspective of the Fa. Through exchanging experiences among Dafa practitioners in Japan and other countries, the practitioners realized that we must completely reject the arrangement of the old forces and put all our effort to rescue Yoko Kaneko and clarify the truth. Through this action, we want to expose the evil and offer salivation to those people who have been deceived and manipulated by the evil lies.

How to Negate the Old Forces' Evil Persecution - How Much Are We Following Old Force Arrangements?

(Clearwisdom.net) The evil's persecution against Dafa and Dafa practitioners has lasted almost four years. Over this time, I have witnessed countless brutal acts of persecution. The persecution of any practitioner results in losses for Dafa. If a practitioner loses freedom, no matter how determined he or she is, the outcome would not be as good as if he or she does Fa-rectification work freely outside the jail. Therefore, every practitioner's negation of the persecution of themselves and fellow practitioners is also reducing losses for the Fa-rectification.

Basically, Dafa practitioners should firmly negate persecution when facing evil arrangements and we must unconditionally and unreservedly do so from the bottom of our hearts. Only thus can the Fa-rectification manifest mighty power and take effect through Dafa practitioners, and the persecution would fail -- because the old forces must obey the principles of the old cosmos and cannot do things at will.

Through my experience during the past several years, I realized the evil usually needs two types of excuses as a pretense to persecute Dafa practitioners:

First is that Dafa practitioners being persecuted have omissions, so the evil can apply persecution and use so-called tests and tribulations. This fits the principles of the old cosmos. However, even if a practitioner has omissions, he or she should not be persecuted. The evil does not realize this principle, as Fa-rectification has not yet arrived in this dimension, which is still controlled by principles of the old cosmos. Therefore the old forces insist on doing things according to the old principles and do not give up on it.

This issue requires us to study the Fa more, cultivate more diligently and improve our xinxing. Through several years of persecution, I have realized more and more the importance of solid cultivation. Consummation in cultivation cannot be reached through just reading and reciting scriptures many times. I understand that the quality and level of Dafa practitioners' cultivation are also determined by xinxing. Studying the Fa more is the method, while solid cultivation and xinxing improvement is the purpose. Fa study cannot become a mere formality or pursuit of quantity. We should melt our thoughts into the Fa more and guide our life and work with righteous thoughts produced from the Fa. We should improve our xinxing through solid cultivation and gradually get rid of all omissions and not give the evil any excuse for persecution.

In various regions, there are practitioners who know the importance of studying the Fa well every day, yet they bury themselves with work and overlook the Fa study, which leads to evil persecution and losses in truth clarification work. I think this was caused by omissions and mind-pursuit, which also shows the need for Fa study. As a part of a whole body, surrounding practitioners should remind and correct them in a timely manner to avoid loss.

Secondly, the old evil force must conform to the principles of ordinary human society even if it has an excuse for persecution. Just as Master has said,

"the demon cannot chop your head off while you are doing meditation even if it wants to kill you. It must conform to the state of ordinary human society."

(Zhuan Falun, Lecture 3)

When I reflect on incidents of persecution during the past few years, many of them happened in this manner: Someone at the material site was arrested due to carelessness and thus practitioners in the whole group were affected. The "carelessness" is the ordinary human principle the evil needs in order to persecute us. The old forces are in other dimensions and know clearly where the material sites and true practitioners are. However, if there is no excuse conforming to ordinary human principles, it cannot manipulate the police to arrest us.

In fact, this "carelessness" also directly reflects some practitioners' attachment of laziness, using shortcuts and being irresponsible to Dafa. This in itself is an omission. It not only gives the evil the second excuse, but also satisfies the first one. Faced with this situation, the countless guardian gods of the Fa cannot do anything. This "carelessness" is also the evil's excuse for persecution.

The evil clings to practitioners' attachments when persecuting us and carries out the persecution in the human world. So the key is, we cannot remain attached to our human notions. We must be responsible to Dafa and not be afraid of troubles, such that the Fa-rectification work is done in a way that on the surface conforms to the safety principle of ordinary human beings. Of course, there is no absolute safety, but if we don't care about safety measures on the level of ordinary human beings, we must have omissions in our mind, which would be easily used and enlarged by the old forces, who would take advantage of the gap to persecute us.

Moreover, sending forth righteous thoughts is also very important in breaking away from the old force's persecution. Master has mentioned this many times. We should send forth righteous thoughts when we encounter moments of crisis, such as at times when the two conditions necessary for evil persecution probably already exist, but the police are needed to carry it out. If we send forth righteous thoughts at those times to eliminate the evil beings that control the police while new evil beings have not yet replenished, we may escape this round of persecution.

It has been indeed an arduous journey to have persisted for the past three years until now. Every practitioner has made tremendous sacrifices. There is still a lot of Fa-rectification work to be done and we cannot let the evil continue to persecute us. I hope every one of our practitioners can pay serious attention to this issue from the perspective of being responsible to the Fa, to ourselves and to sentient beings.

Above is just my understanding on a certain level. Please benevolently point out anything inappropriate.

Seeing with Our Original Nature

When we first obtained the Fa [law and principles], Teacher provided each of us with a Falun.

"The Falun is the manifestation of the nature of the Fa of all matter in the universe, from the macroscopic level to the microscopic level."

("Rectification of One's Character," Essentials for Further Advancement.)

In the future, we will cultivate Falun on our own. This is a manifestation of the nature of the Fa of all matter, since we are assimilating to the Fa, which is to say that our original nature will completely assimilate to the Great Law of the universe--Zhen-Shan-Ren. This will ensure that our futures will be most solid. At higher levels, the principles become simpler. I have discovered that all of the things that I have enlightened to in Dafa cultivation such as fundamentally negating the old forces, following Teacher's requirements in letting go of all mentalities, steadfastly cultivating Dafa without distraction, assisting Teacher to rectify the Fa, and saving sentient beings are in fact all interrelated. That is enlightening to the Fa with our true nature.

Long before history, we vowed to Teacher that we were:

"Making a wish to save sentient beings, Assisting Teacher in his journey in this world"

("Assisting the Fa", Hongyin).

Then step-by-step we descended into the Firmament. We lost all knowledge of our previous lives at each downward step that we took. As such, we formed all kinds of relationships with beings that we encountered at each level of the old universe. Not only that, but some of us signed pacts with the Old Forces to follow their arrangements in the Fa-rectification period. Nevertheless, even though at various levels we agreed to "sacrifice our lives" for Dafa in the human world, our intentions at those levels are not our truest intentions, nor are they the original vows we made to Teacher. Teacher uses all divine forces to help us recall our original intentions instead of the intentions that we made at the lower levels.

Teacher says that a god will keep going on a path when he recognizes it. I understand that a god's thinking comes from his original nature, which is free of interference from any other level. Every one of us knows that assisting Teacher to rectify the Fa and save sentient beings is our mission, but often our thoughts are interfered with by the Old Forces at the various levels. It is like a person going to a see a film. You would expect him to go straight to the theater. If he goes shopping or gets distracted in other ways, the film would be over by the time that he makes it to the theater.

"Foolishly absorbed in what unfolds in the play, the grotesque scenes seem beautiful."

("The Big Stage")

No matter how beautiful the play is, we should not forget our most original purpose. In Fa-rectification, all of the intentions that we made at different levels are not our ultimate intention. What counts is what we ourselves do at critical moments. If some disciples had not been tortured to death by the evil forces, they could have gone on to do more important things to validate Dafa and to save sentient beings.

All our righteous thoughts and actions should come from our original nature.

"I am not asking you to intentionally do something. I am only trying to make you understand the principles of the Fa so that you will have a clear understanding of this. In fact, Dafa is not only to save human beings--it is also taught to all beings in the various dimensions. Your enlightened, original nature will automatically know what to do."

("Expounding on the Fa", Essentials for Further Advancement)

With our enlightened original nature and our diligence, when we understand these principles of the Fa, we will definitely be able to fulfill our original vows to save all predestined sentient beings.

My Understanding of the Phrase "Falun Dafa is Good"

I knew it was a righteous action to paste self-adhesive stickers with phrases such as "Falun Dafa is Good" along the streets. However, I didn't quite understand why we should do it and what effects it could produce. Now I would like to share my thinking with my fellow practitioners.

To promote products in society, advertisements are played repeatedly in different media. Although the audience may not like the advertisements, through repeatedly seeing them, they eventually accept it, or at least have a lasting impression left by it. The evil manipulates people's thinking by using this method -- they repeatedly play false information and lies to the public. Although some clearheaded people can distinguish right from wrong, the vast quantity of slanderous propaganda may still cause deep impressions in them over the long term. This is a terrible thing for those affected in this way.

Therefore, we should display "Falun Dafa is Good" in different ways and in different situations, including pasting self-adhesive stickers, hanging banners, and calling the phrase out in some special situations. This will make deep impressions in the minds of everyday people, so that they are able to exist in the new world. These deeds are magnificent. They shock the evil, and most importantly save people.

Based on the above understanding, I suggest that the words "Falun Dafa is Good" be displayed prominently at any public Falun Dafa activities, on Dafa web sites, at exhibitions, on TV and radio, etc. so that the audience, no matter friendly or hostile, will be able to see or hear these very important words. In the long run, these precious words "Falun Dafa is Good" will be imprinted in their minds and give them the understanding that Falun Dafa practitioners firmly persist in their belief despite suffering brutal persecution for so long. It is the luckiest thing that could happen for a being that has been deceived by the propaganda.

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, I found that some practitioners were studying the Fa with the mentality of wanting to enlighten to the principles of higher level in the Fa. Consequently, their understanding often went awry. As a matter of fact, it was studying the Fa with the attachment of pursuit while one was trying to enlighten to something in Dafa. A practitioner's thought karma and demons in other dimensions will take advantage of this attachment to create interferences that will encourage the practitioner to over-emphasize self-satisfaction and to think that he or she really does enlighten to some profound principles in the Fa. However, when practitioners truly enlighten to the principles in Dafa, their enlightenment can only be manifested at their corresponding xinxing realm with their words and action. Practitioner's enlightenment is not just a superficial understanding driven by the competitive mentality lurking in his or her sub-consciousness.

Actually when a practitioner studies the Fa with the mentality of pursuit, that practitioner is already treating Dafa as an everyday person's knowledge to discuss and study. In the process, when the competitive mentality and strong self-awareness of that practitioner naturally shows, how could the principles of Dafa at different levels be unfolded to him or her? On the contrary, when we are in front of the ultimate Great Fa of the cosmos that creates everything in the cosmos and read the Fa only with piety and respect, then the principles of Dafa will naturally unfold to us and "gain things naturally without pursuing them" ("Seeking Discipleship with Teacher" from Essentials For Further Advancement).

When Sending Righteous Thoughts I Saw Countless Sentient Beings Anxiously Waiting to Be Saved

First: A few days ago when I sent forth righteous thoughts I saw countless sentient beings in my own dimensional field sending forth righteous thoughts with me. The ever so powerful righteous thoughts headed right into the colossal firmament. Nevertheless, in another dimension I saw a lot of sentient beings devouring a lot of food and drink while having a big feast and living a dissolute life that pursued pleasure and fun. An immeasurable compassion emerged from the depths of my heart and I decided to save those people. As soon as this thought emerged, those sentient beings immediately became very serious and solemn. They crossed their legs to sit in the meditation position and erected their palms. I deeply felt the greatness and solemnity of Dafa. It was beyond human words.

Second: Last week when I sent forth righteous thoughts while attending group study, I saw in fellow practitioners' dimensional fields countless sentient beings anxiously waiting to be saved. Seeing their anxious and longing looks, my heart was so deeply and painfully touched and moved that my eyes quickly welled up with tears. Teacher says:

"I said earlier that if we don't cultivate well, for our Dafa disciples it won't just be a matter of painful regret when they reach Consummation later on."

A Women's Health Improves After Practicing Falun Gong

A person named Jin, from a county in Jilin Province, used to have misunderstandings about Dafa and consequently hated Dafa. She developed cancer of the rectum, which reached an advanced stage. She was critically ill. Later, she started to practice Falun Gong. She has now recovered completely. She tells everyone she meets that Dafa saved her and that she would have died a long time ago if were not for Dafa. Because of her, many people in the village started to practice Falun Gong.

A Lady's Righteous Thoughts

A lady told me that her friend's mother used to suffer a serious illness in the leg and recovered after practicing Falun Gong. After Jiang's regime started persecuting Falun Gong, her friend's mother became scared. She gave the book away and did not dare to practice any more. The illness in her leg came back and became more serious. The lady advised the elderly woman to continue to practice Falun Gong. The elderly woman started practicing and her leg got better at once.

Family Member Resists the Persecution

A female practitioner was forced to leave home in order to avoid further persecution. Authorities told her husband to resign from his job if he did not divorce his wife. His coworkers also tried to persuade him to get a divorce. Her husband deeply understands that Dafa is good and said: "If she reaches consummation she will be a Buddha. If I divorce her, where would I go in the future!?" He also started to practice Falun Gong.

An Infiltrator From China Says "I Will Not Damage Dafa - I Didn't Expect You Were So Nice"

One day, a fellow overseas practitioner received a phone call. The caller said that he was leaving the country, and before leaving, he would like to say goodbye to him. This practitioner had only heard of the caller by name, and had never met him, so he asked how he had obtained the phone number. Unexpectedly, the caller calmly explained, "I have everyone's phone number. To tell you the truth, I am a secret agent. Six months ago I came from Mainland China and pretended that I was a Falun Gong practitioner. I brought everyone's phone number with me when I came. My duty was to collect information about all of you. But after a while, I hadn't made even one phone call, because when I first arrived, I wanted to initially observe you, as a bystander, to see if there was anything suspicious going on."

"My job requires me to read Zhuan Falun everyday. You know, I like what the book says, and I didn't believe you would be such nice people. I assumed that you had another purpose, so I was observing you. After making observations for a period of time, I found that you indeed behaved according to what is required in the book. You are indeed trying to be good people. I did not damage Dafa before, and I don't think I will in the future."

"Actually, regarding what your teacher says about supernormal capabilities in the book, I believe them all, because one time I had this kind of a personal experience. When I was a child, and was playing with other kids, all of a sudden the other kids couldn't see me. At the beginning, there were just a few kids looking for me, but later, the adults and kids together in the whole village were looking for me. I didn't understand that they couldn't see me, you see. I thought they were joking with me. So wherever they went, I followed them, and not until later did I find out that they truly couldn't see me. After two hours, they all gave up, saying that I mustn't be in the village. So I stood in the middle of them and said loudly: 'Am I not here?' and I popped up in front of them. They all felt very strange, and so did I."

During the night of August 27, 2002, eight Dafa practitioners from Baoding City broadcast Dafa truth-clarifying programs on TV. [Northeast China] A Dafa Practitioners' Family Member is Brutally Tortured for Appealing

Eight Dafa practitioners from a county in Northeast China have been detained for almost three months since their arrest for distributing truth-clarifying materials. Family members are not allowed to visit them. The non-practitioner husband of one of the practitioners went to the detention center several times, hoping to visit his wife, but was refused every time. He went to see the officials of the detention center and police department, and reiterated his request to see his wife and bring her some clothes. After he was refused many times he told the officials of the police department, "If you don't let me see my wife, I will go to appeal in Beijing. Even murderers have the right to see their family members. My wife committed no crimes at all by practicing Falun Gong. What right do you have to not let me see her?" A few days ago, he went to Beijing to appeal but encountered the same treatments as Falun Gong practitioners. He was first arrested, then detained and later escorted back home by local police, from their Beijing liaison office.

[Changchun City, Jilin Province] Persecution of Practitioners Kong Fanrong and His Wife

On January 14, 2003, over a dozen police officers including Huang Huichen and Shi Yongliang from the Anqing Road Police Precinct arrested practitioner Kong Fanrong and his wife at their temporary living place at the plant room of the "City of Automobile" in Changchun City, Jilin Province. That same night, the couple was sent to the Tiexi Detention Center. Mr. Kong Fanrong was tortured so severely that his left leg was black and swollen, and became crippled. Mr. Kong Fanrong's wife did not give her name to the police and went on a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment and abuse. Three days later, she was sent to the hospital inside the labor camp to receive a powerful drug treatment. After 35 days, on February 21, she was released and now has trouble walking. She is very emaciated. Mr. Kong Fanrong was transferred to the Shulan City Detention Center in Jinlin Province.

According to a secret order from the upper level government, officials from Fushun City Forced Labor Camp set up a brainwashing class to persecute practitioners. They arrested steadfast Dafa practitioners from their homes, ransacked the Dafa books, Dafa materials and personal property.

At midnight on February 25, 2003, four local policemen, including Wang Jinxiang, and led by the chief of local police office, Zhang Shiliang, arrested Dafa practitioner Tian Defu from Baoli Town/Changtu County/Liaoning Province, and detained him in the Changtu County Detention Center.

Ms. Ren Liyun was sentenced to forced labor at the beginning of 2001. She was released ahead of schedule, before the Spring Festival of 2002. But because she didn't cooperate with the evil, she was again arrested in May 2002 and is still being detained.

Mr. He Yingqin was detained at the beginning of 2001. He was released after writing a "Guarantee Statement." In September 2001, he was again arrested for newly declaring himself to be a Dafa practitioner. In October 2002, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor.

[Beijing] Two-Year Forced Labor Sentence for Dafa Practitioner Jiang Jianxue

On January 16, Minghui (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) reported that Beijing Dafa practitioner Ms. Jiang Jianxue was arrested. The information we gathered so far is this: Jiang Jianxue distributed some New Year's greeting cards made by Dafa practitioners to her students after the class. A student reported her to the school's security section and she was thus arrested. Later she was sent to Haidian District's Detention Center. In the meantime, the personnel from the detention center assembled several collaborators* and attempted to brainwash her. In order to resist the persecution, Jiang Jianxue staged a hunger strike for 14 days. She was sentenced to two years of forced labor. Right now, she is held at a dispatch center.

According to a reliable source, police have always attempted to arrest Xiao Bi and other practitioners they deem important by monitoring Jiang Yuntian's activities.

[Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] A Dafa Practitioner from the Qiaoxi District is Arrested

Dafa practitioner Ms. Pang (pseudonym), over 40 years old, has been living in exile for over two years to avoid persecution. During the afternoon of March 3, 2003, Ms. Pang went to visit fellow practitioner Ms. Mu Qinglan who had been persecuted in a brainwashing class. At around 4:00 p.m., policemen from the Xili Police Station, including Liu Shushan, went to Ms. Mu Qinglan's home to harass her. The two practitioners refused to open the door. Later, police caught Ms. Pang when she jumped out the window on second floor and handcuffed her in the entrance guardroom. Liu Shushan, the police officer, had someone get Ms. Mu Qinglan's husband and had him open the door. As the door was locked inside, the lawless policemen attempted to break the door and threatened Mr. Yin, Mu Qinglan's husband, who is a non-practitioner. After the police left, practitioner Mu Qinglan decided to leave home and live in exile in order to avoid being persecuted again in the future.

[Changchun City, Jilin Province] Please Send Forth Righteous Thoughts to Help Fellow Practitioners

On January 14 2003, a Dafa truth-clarifying materials production center was destroyed. Policemen from Changchun City's Police Department and Xinxing Town's Police Precinct arrested practitioner Mr. Bian Hongxiang and his wife. A print-plate making machine and a small-sized copying machine were confiscated. Bian Hongxiang is on a hunger strike to resist the evil. He is emaciated; his wife was sent back to her hometown.

On February 27 2003, a practitioner was arrested when he/she distributed Dafa truth-clarifying materials at Luilin St. in Changchun City. That same day, practitioner Ms. Zhu Haiyan was arrested on her way home.

[Handan City, Hebei Province] Arrest of Practitioner Li Tongzhi and Ms. Zhang

At 12:00 a.m. on February 23 2003, policemen from the Guangming Bridge Police Precinct arrested practitioner Mr. Li Tongzhi and ransacked his home. His family reasoned with police, but police Chen Zhiping threatened, "I came to ransack without a search certificate. Are you going to report me? Shi Baozhong, the director of our police precinct sent me."

That was the third time Li Tongzhi was arrested. On February 25, they sent Li Tongzhi to Handan City's No. 2 Detention Center.

At 7:00 p.m. on March 2, 2003, police from Lianfangdong Police Precinct arrested 50-year-old practitioner Ms. Zhang Yingxi from Congtai District. Now her situation is unknown.

[Xingtai City, Hebei Province] Name of a Criminal Police Official

Huo Xiangting, assistant director for Wei County's Police Department in Xingtai City/Hebei Province and other policemen who are in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners have illegally arrested more than 30 practitioners. Many practitioners were sent to forced labor camps. These lawless officials extorted 3,000 to 5,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income in urban areas of China] from each arrested practitioner.

[Qinglong County, Hebei Province] Police Crimes

On February 20 and 21, 2003, persons from Qinglong County "610 Office*" and from the local police precinct started another round of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. Policemen ransacked homes and arrested practitioners. Within two days, numerous practitioners' homes were ransacked; more than 30 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Tumenzi County's government's and police office personnel were even more brutal. On February 26, local policemen climbed over the fence and jumped into practitioner Mr. Li Guomin's yard. After they were refused admittance, they wounded Li Guomin's 17 years old son's head and then gathered more than 20 ruffians from Qinglong County's "610 Office" to destroy most of the personal property at Li Guomin's home, including cooking pans and dishes. In the end, they put Li Guomin and his wife into Qinglong County's Detention Center for torture.

150 People Declare that their Words and Deeds Under Forced Brainwashing are Null and Void

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Facts About the Persecution

On January 12, 2003, police officer Gao Yuchen and another officer from the Xiyao local police station, Northern Sub-Branch, Tangshan City Public Security Bureau, used the excuse of checking the registry to illegally seize Dafa practitioners Guo Xiaohui and An Zhenjie while they were making Dafa truth-clarification materials. The officers did not state any reason for the arrest, nor did they notify the practitioner's families.

In 1999, my mother, eldest sister and I went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. We were illegally detained, brutally beaten, and forced to stand for a prolonged period of time in a cage. During that same year my elder brother was handcuffed for one day in a local police station for appealing in Beijing. In the summer of 2000, my eldest sister was forced to attend a brainwashing session that lasted approximately 20 days. In November 2001, my mother, two elder sisters, and I were taken to a brainwashing center. My sisters refused to write the "Guarantee statement", so torture was applied to "five centers" of their bodies; that is, the centers of the head, soles of the feet, and palms. The perpetrator said that beating the "five centers" can cause death without leaving any visible wounds. They brutally grabbed my mother by the hair and then smashed her head against the wall.

Jilin female Dafa practitioner Li Shulan was illegally sentenced to two years of "re-education through forced labor" for handing out Dafa truth-clarification materials in November 2000. She is currently detained in Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp for an extended term. The prolonged exposure to hard labor, torture, electric baton shocks, and mental torment have caused her to lose a lot of weight, lose her appetite, and suffer the loss of feeling in over 90% of her body. The serious leg disease that started during childhood has returned, which makes it difficult for her to walk. Despite all this, the forced labor camp still forces her to work every day.

A female Dafa practitioner from Shuangcheng City went to Beijing to appeal for a second time in June 2000. She was kidnapped by the police in Tianjin City, and illegally detained in the Tianjin Detention Centre. The perpetrators brutally tortured her, forced her to stand for long periods of time, and deprived her of sleep. Her whole body was left covered in bruises, and her leg muscles ceased to function. She has still not recovered the ability to walk.

A Dafa practitioner and former traffic police officer from Huludao City was dismissed from his job because he practices Falun Gong. He has been illegally detained several times, and was forcibly sent to Kangning Psychiatric Hospital in Jinzhou City in 1999. He was tormented for three months, and barbarically injected with drugs used to treat neuroses. In December 2000, he went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. He was detained in Shijinshan Detention Centre and suffered all means of torture that caused perforation of his eardrums, serious injury to his lower torso, and injuries to his legs that make it impossible for him to walk. During the winter when it was -10^o C or colder, some prisoners stripped off his clothes and poured piercingly cold water over his body for nearly an hour. In 2001 he was illegally sentenced to three years of re-education through labor, and sent to the Hulutao City Forced Labor Camp. Here he was forced to do hard labor, exposed to brainwashing, repeatedly shocked with electric batons, and brutally beaten.

Switzerland: Practitioners Introduce Falun Dafa at the Zurich Health Expo

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently Dafa practitioners in Switzerland are doing everything they can and using every opportunity to explain the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong to the public. From February 27 to March 2, there was a national Health Expo in Zurich, the biggest city in Switzerland. Practitioners used this precious opportunity to tell people more about Falun Dafa.

At the Health Expo, the Falun Gong display stand happened to be located beside the entrance. When entering the exhibition hall, one would see an eye-catching banner reading "Falun Dafa Is Good". Below the banner there was a big chart made by a famous doctor in Zurich, which showed how the energy field of practitioners varied before and after they began to practice. From the chart, it was seen that practitioners had a weaker energy field before they practiced Falun Gong and the diseased part(s) of the body had no energy field. On the other hand, practitioners had a significantly more powerful energy field after they started the practice and also the diseased part(s) of their bodies were healed. The doctor also displayed graphs to make a comparison of the health situations prior to and after beginning the practice. Once more, facts and statistics show that Falun Gong brings miraculous benefits to our health.

During the Health Expo, the Falun Gong display stand was among the most popular. Peaceful and beautiful Dafa music attracted many visitors to the stand. The visitors were eager to take leaflets as well as Video-CDs. Some of them even asked for extra materials for their Chinese neighbors or relatives. Others attentively listened to the practitioners talk about Falun Gong and watched the exercises being demonstrated. One 2-year-old child of a practitioner also practiced exercises to the Dafa music; his attentive and solemn facial expressions surprised onlookers and brought praise from the audience. There were still more people waiting in line for some Chinese calligraphy on which were drawn the Chinese characters of "Falun Dafa Is Good". It was not long before the calligraphy was seen everywhere in the exhibition hall.

During the last two days of the Health Expo, practitioners arranged a programmed to introduce Falun Gong. On a big TV screen, practitioners played videotapes of Master Li's exercise instructions. Another videotape was also played describing the development of Falun Dafa and how it has spread to all parts of the world. Two practitioners then talked about the differences between Falun Dafa and other cultivation methods. They offered concrete evidence and facts to illustrate that practicing Falun Gong brings numerous benefits to health. The audience attentively watched the tapes, listened to explanations, and finally showed their appreciation by applauding enthusiastically.

When the program came to an end, the audience around our display stand was unwilling to leave. Practitioners used this precious opportunity to further expose the brutal persecution of Falun Dafa by the Jiang regime. The audience was informed of practitioners' selfless and magnificent deeds when making peaceful appeals, and how they upheld "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" in their lives. These kind persons were deeply touched by the selflessness of practitioners. With excitement, they expressed, "It is such a good practice that can bring extreme benefits to our mental and physical health as well as our society. It's incredible that [Jiang's regime] is slandering and cracking down on it."

Many of the people had various questions to ask. Some said that they had already heard of Falun Gong and some had traveled very long distances just to obtain information and materials. One man said that he wanted to take many different types of materials from the Expo but his top priority was to take Dafa materials. A disabled person told the practitioners, "Falun Gong has the best and most powerful energy field. Please give me materials of Falun Gong. I would like to read them carefully." There were still many others who learned the first set of exercises, asked for the phone numbers of practice sites and expressed an interest in practicing Falun Gong. Others also bought Dafa books.

During the four days, over 15,000 visitors came to our stand and practitioners handed out around 8,000 leaflets and over 300 Video-CDs. Overall, through the activities practitioners introduced Dafa to more people and were delighted to see the audience understanding the truth.
