RES. 304 to the 108^th Congress, 1^st Session to express the Sense of Congress Regarding Oppression by the Government of the People's Republic of China of Falun Gong in the United States and in China.

Expressing the sense of Congress regarding oppression by the Government of the People's Republic of China of Falun Gong in the United States and in China.

Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN (for herself and Ms. WOOLSEY) submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on International Relations, and in addition to the Committee on the Judiciary, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned

Expressing the sense of Congress regarding oppression by the Government of the People's Republic of China of Falun Gong in the United States and in China.

Whereas Falun Gong is a peaceful spiritual movement that originated in the People's Republic of China but has grown in popularity worldwide and is now accepted and practiced by thousands in the United States;

Whereas demonstrations by Falun Gong practitioners in the People's Republic of China and the United States have been peaceful, meditative sessions;

Whereas the Constitution of the People's Republic of China provides to the citizens of that country freedom of speech, assembly, association, and religious belief;

Whereas members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement, members of Chinese pro-democracy groups, and advocates of human rights reform in the People's Republic of China have been harassed, libeled, imprisoned, and beaten for demonstrating peacefully inside that country;

Whereas the Chinese Government has also attempted to silence the Falun Gong movement and Chinese prodemocracy groups inside the United States;

Whereas on June 12, 2003, 38 Members of Congress filed an Amended Brief of Amicus Curiae in support of the Falun Gong at the United States District Court, Northeastern District of Illinois, Eastern Division;

Whereas Chinese consular officials have pressured local elected officials in the United States to refuse or withdraw support for the Falun Gong spiritual group;

Whereas Dr. Charles Lee, a United States citizen, has reportedly been mentally and physically tortured since being detained by Chinese authorities in early 2003;

Whereas the apartment of Ms. Gail Rachlin, the Falun Gong spokeswoman in the United States, has been broken into 5 times by agents of the Chinese regime since the regime banned Falun Gong in 1999 in China;

Whereas over the past 5 years China's diplomatic corps has been actively involved in harassing and persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in the United States;

Whereas on June 23, 2003, Falun Gong practitioners were attacked outside a Chinese restaurant in New York City by local United States-based individuals with reported ties to the Chinese Government;

Whereas 5 Falun Gong practitioners were assaulted outside of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago on September 7, 2001, while exercising their constitutionally protected rights to free speech, leading to battery convictions in Cook County Criminal Court of Jiming Zheng on November 13, 2002, and Yujun Weng on December 5, 2002, both assailants being members of a Chinese-American organization in Chicago, the Mid-USA Fujian Township Association, which maintains close ties with the Chinese Consulate;

Whereas individuals that physically harassed Falun Gong practitioners in San Francisco on October 22, 2000, were later seen at anti-Falun Gong meetings and the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco;

Whereas San Francisco City Supervisor Chris Daly, after receiving complaints that Chinese officials were intimidating his constituents, authored a resolution condemning human rights violations and persecution of Falun Gong members by the Chinese Government;

Whereas Mr. Daly and the other members of the San Francisco City Council subsequently received a letter from the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, claiming that Falun Gong was an 'evil cult' that was undermining the 'normal social order' in the People's Republic of China, and that Mr. Daly's resolution should therefore be rejected, which it subsequently was;

Whereas in November 2000, the former Mayor of Saratoga, California, Stan Bogosian, issued a proclamation honoring the contributions of Falun Gong practitioners to the Saratoga community, which prompted the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco to write to Mr. Bogosian urging him to retract his support for local Falun Gong activities;

Whereas many local and national media organizations have reported that other local officials across the United States, including the mayors of several major cities, have been pressured by Chinese consular officials to recant statements of support for the Falun Gong;

Whereas journalists have cited fear of hurting trade relationships as the motivation for some local United States officials to recant their support for Falun Gong after receiving pressure from Chinese consular officials; and

Whereas the Constitution of the United States guarantees freedom of religion, the right to assemble, and the right to speak freely, and the people of the United States strongly value protecting the ability of all people to live without fear and in accordance with their personal beliefs: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That it is the sense of Congress that--

(2) the President should, in accordance with section 401(a)(1)(B) of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (22 U.S.C. 6401(a)(1)(B)), and with the intention of dissuading the Chinese Government from attempting to stifle religious freedom in the People's Republic of China and the United States, take action such as--

(3) the Attorney General should investigate reports that Chinese consular officials in the United States have committed illegal acts while attempting to intimidate or inappropriately influence Falun Gong practitioners or local elected officials, and, in consultation with the Secretary of State, determine an appropriate legal response; and

According to the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, over one hundred practitioners in Jilin Province Prison are now on hunger strike to protest against the brutal torture. Mr. Liu Chengjun, a practitioner from Changchun City, Jilin Province, is now in grave danger. On March 5, 2002, Mr. Liu intercepted the Changchun cable TV and broadcast Falun Gong truth-clarification programs. His purpose was to break through the information blockage of the Chinese government and help people learn about the truth of Falun Gong. As a result, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. While in detention, he was brutally tortured and is now in critical condition.

After learning of this urgent news, the Falun Dafa Information Center held a press conference in the afternoon of October 27. Spokesman Scott Chinn said, going on hunger strike is the only thing those persecuted practitioners can do after being deprived of all human rights. He also pointed out that in China's prisons, the guards use various torture instruments on practitioners. They torture practitioners both physically and mentally. Practitioners are not even allowed to appeal the brutal treatment they receive.

On the night of the 27^th, it was raining and very cold. But still nearly one hundred practitioners gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy in New York City to support their fellow practitioners and call upon the Chinese government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. They also held a candlelight vigil. Their biggest wish is that the Chinese government stop the persecution as soon as possible.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Derong, who also brought her young son here, said, "We just want to show our support for fellow practitioners who are suffering in China. Compared to their suffering, our exposure to the rain and wind here is nothing."

(Clearwisdom.net) At 7:00 p.m. on October 28, 2003, San Francisco Falun Gong practitioners gathered outside the Chinese Consulate to hold a candlelight vigil. They sent forth powerful righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil in other dimensions that persecute Dafa practitioners in China, and support Falun Gong practitioners who are on hunger strikes against the persecution they are suffering in Jilin Province. They also requested an immediate release of illegally detained practitioners in Jilin Province, and urged the Chinese government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

It was reported that more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners are being held in Jilin Prison, and most of them are undertaking a hunger strike to protest the ongoing severe torture by prison guards there. The current situation is critical, and one of them, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Chengjun from Changchun City has been confirmed to be on the verge of death as a result of torture he received.

Lu Hui, a Falun Gong practitioner participating in this peaceful appeal said, "We come here to let more people learn about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, and call upon people with conscience to send out their righteous voices to stop the brutal persecution." He continued, "I think these appeals are very important. Taiwan practitioner Mr. Lin Hsiao-kai went to travel in China recently and was illegally detained. Because practitioners and kind-hearted people in society peacefully appealed and exposed Jiang regime's using lies and deceptions to cover up its violation of basic human rights, and its persecution of kind people and Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners have gained support from all walks of life and exerted great pressure on the Chinese government. Mr. Lin Hsiao-kai was safely returned to Taiwan on the 27^th. "

Charles Li's fiancée Yeong-Ching Foo expressed that Mr. Liu Chengjun used cable TV signals to tell the Chinese people the facts about Falun Gong, and to expose that fact that Jiang's regime fabricated the self-immolation incident on Tiananmen Square to slander Falun Gong.

Since March, Mr. Liu Chengjun has been illegally held in prison where he has been subjected to tortureuntil he almost died. Charles Li was also illegally arrested at the beginning of this year for planning to broadcast the truth about Falun Gong through tapping TV signals in China, and he has been suffering all kinds of torture and abuse in jail. These Falun Gong practitioners let go of their comfort lives and risk their lives. Whatever they do, whether tapping TV signals or unfurling banners, are all righteous. All the efforts they put are to let the Chinese people see through the nature of Jiang's fabrications and propaganda against peaceful and innocent people.

Through sharing, practitioners understood that practitioners in and outside China are one body. When practitioners in China suffer severe persecution in labor camps, we should send righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil in other dimensions that persecute these practitioners, and completely clear up these behind-the-scenes-helpers the old forces arranged to persecute Dafa.

On October 25, Los Angeles Falun Gong Practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese consulate calling for the unconditional release of Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioner Lin Hsiao-Kai who was secretly detained in China while visiting friends in Shanghai. The Overseas Taiwanese Association and Overseas Chinese Democracy and Peace Coalition were also present to support. The case of Lin Hsiao-Kai's secret detention caused major media in Taiwan, the Taiwan government and overseas Chinese to pay close attention to this matter as in unfolded.

Ms. Xie Xinling, representative of Falun Gong practitioners hosted the press conference. In the media statement, she said, "Lin Hsiao-Kai was secretly detained for two weeks just because he is a Falun Gong practitioner." She said, "Under the same blue sky, Falun Gong a practice that teaches truth compassion tolerance is welcomed in over 60 countries and has made 100 million people become healthy and good people with a high moral standard. It is unacceptable that the Jiang regime persecutes good people. Here we strongly call on the Chinese government to respect Taiwanese people's right to freely travel, have the freedom of belief and unconditionally release Lin Hsiao-Kai and other detained Falun Gong practitioners." Xie Xinling also mentioned that Lin's case was not isolated case. Before him five other Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners were arrested and imprisoned in China.

Xia Xinling especially introduced the growth of Falun Gong in Taiwan. She said that in Taiwan, no matter whether in airports or in public transportation, in streets or scenic attractions, people often can see large posters containing the Falun Dafa principles Truth Compassion Tolerance. Many counties and cities' Education Department hold Falun Dafa Study Camps for the teaching staff. Teachers can accumulate credits while attending the camps. When they returned to their school, they brought the beauty of truth compassion and tolerance to their students. Many teachers said that their students studied much harder after cultivating Falun Gong and became good students with high moral standards. She believed that all the kind people in the world will make their efforts to stop the brutal persecution happening in China.

Chen Wenshi of the Overseas Taiwanese Committee expressed that the fundamental reason that Jiang Zemin suppressed Falun Gong was that he was so afraid of people united together. It is because of Jiang's mentality that he and his followers are so bad and thus afraid of the people. He said that actually letting people practice Falun Gong freely and cultivate their hearts is the right way for the democratic country.

Mr, Li Mutong of the Overseas Chinese Democracy and Peace Coalition read a statement on behalf of the coalition calling for the unconditional release of Lin Hsiao-Kai and other detained Falun Gong practitioners.. He expressed that through this case he hoped more people could realize that in a dictatorship people's safety and lives are not protected. He further expressed that China was not heaven for investors. He knew many Taiwanese businessmen who lost all their investment and returned to Taiwan after being cheated.

(Update: Through the concerted rescue efforts of Falun Gong practitioners in Taiwan and around the world, Lin Hsiao-Kai has regained his freedom and was returned to Taiwan on October 27.)

(Clearwisdom.net) I saw Dafa practitioner Mr. Liu Chengjun from Nongan County, Jilin Province on October 24, 2003. He was unconscious. His familiar face was hard to recognize, and his eyes were gray and dim. He was relying on oxygen therapy and intravenous injections to sustain his life.

We went to the police guards and asked them to release Liu, but they said, "Go ask the team leader." They also said, "We only monitor him; we don't release him." We immediately went to the team leader who said, "We need to have a doctor check on him, and then we need to do some observations." So we went to the doctor who said, "I'm only treating the patient, but the medical expenses were not paid. The guard decides whether to release him or not." We went to the prison guard. He said, "Liu Chengjun is not cooperating with the doctor; he is not eating anything." In fact, Liu Chengjun is not able to eat at all, not to mention cooperating with the medical treatment.

Later, for him to do a crisis test analysis, we paid the doctor 100 Yuan. Liu Chengjun's test result was delivered at 3:00 p.m. and it said, "acute kidney failure, cardiac arrhythmia, critical condition." The doctor told us to prepare for a funeral right away, and issued a notice saying that the patient is terminal. Even faced with this situation, the authorities evaded responsibility and said they need to report to their superiors and refused to release him.

Another Dafa practitioner is also receiving emergency treatment in the same room as Liu Chengjun. He came from Tonghua City. The police beat him all over because he refused to sign a statement to break away from Falun Gong.

Another nine Dafa practitioners are suffering similar persecutions. We do not know their exact addresses. They are also being persecuted because they clarified the truth to people through a cable TV system. Their stories were previously reported.

We made several calls and learned that Dafa practitioner Liu Chengjun is currently being detained at Jilin City Central Hospital, phone number: 86-432-2456181. He is in the Comprehensive Unit, extension number 2558.

When we asked the nurse, the nurse said he was about to leave the hospital. When we asked if he would be sent home or to the prison, the nurse dared not to answer the question, but she said Liu needs continued medical attention after he leaves the hospital.

We also spoke with Liu's family who said Liu is still in a critical condition. He is unconscious and cannot recognize people. A police officer unlawfully terminated our phone call. We could hear the police yelling on the other end.

(Clearwisdom.Net) Ms. Li Shuhua was 32 years old. She lived in Yushu City and was a tailor. Her husband, Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Zhanjiu, was illegally detained in a detention center by the Yushu City police in August 2002. Her mother, Falun Dafa practitioner Cui Zhanyun, was also illegally detained in the Heizuizi Labor Camp. Only she and her father and her two children remained at home making a difficult living.

On September 4, 2003, Yushu City police arrested Li Shuhua. Shuhua went on a hunger strike to protest the arrest. The police refused to let her family to visit her. On October 8^th, Shuhua's father went to the police station to get her. Shuhua had died on October 7^th; however, the police were still hiding the fact on October 8^th. On October 9^th, the police notified Shuhua's family. The sudden news of her death caused her father to collapse.

In just 13 days, a healthy person was murdered by Jiang Zemin's regime. People could still see that one side of Shuhua's face was black; the other side was a little collapsed, although the police had tried to cover it with make up. She had also become unimaginably thin.

According to the investigation by the Falun Dafa Information Center, a male official on duty at the Yushu City Police Political Security Department (ph. 86-43-13630348) seemed to be very nervous when the reporter asked on October 16 about the case of Li Shuhua's death. He said several times, "You, you, you..." and then said, "I cannot answer your question over the phone." He hung up soon afterwards.

Ms. Fang Hui, a 39-year-old teacher in the Foreign Language Institute of Sichuan University, was illegally imprisoned in the First Detention Center of Chengdu City in February 2002, for practicing Falun Gong. Afterwards, she was sent to a brainwashing class in March and was released in August after going on hunger strike. On November 5^thshe was arrested once more and imprisoned in the First Detention Center in Chengdu City until present times. Fang Hui is in critical condition and was sent to hospital because she is on a hunger strike to protest her illegal imprisonment.

Fang Hui's husband, Dr. Wang Haibo is a PhD graduate of Sichuan University's Institution of Math and a Dafa practitioner. He was also arrested illegally on November 5^th 2002, and is still imprisoned in the First Detention Center in Chengdu City. The couple has a 10-year-old child at home living without any care. Their wages have been cut off, which includes the child's living expenses.

(Clearwisdom.net) Since July 20, 1999, Hubei Province's Shizishan Drug Rehabilitation Labor Camp has become an evil den for illegally imprisoning Falun Gong practitioners. In order to carry out the long-term mental and physical torture of Falun Gong practitioners, Jiang's regime invested large amount of money and hurriedly constructed several large-scale office buildings, plants for the prisoners to work in, as well as dormitory buildings at this site.

Practitioners who had just arrived were forcibly taken to the labor camp hospital for "assessment." Before then, practitioners were forced to take off all their clothes; no matter how cold it was, practitioners had to wait without clothes on. Following the health assessment, we were taken to the No. 2 Women's Division. There they ordered the drug addicts to forcibly remove all of our clothes for inspection. They degraded the female practitioners. After that, they inspected our luggage and all our personal belongings. They even opened up the cotton-padded quilts to search for Teacher's lectures. All of our bedding was confiscated. The prison guards told the drug addicts to tear them into strips, to use as cleaning rags.

The prison guards also instigated the drug addicts to steal all the daily necessities and clothes that practitioners brought. This was one of their techniques to "destroy us financially." Then they locked us in designated rooms so as to prevent us from having any contact with the practitioners who had been imprisoned earlier. Each practitioner in these designated rooms was monitored by two drug addicts, and there were three such people in each room. Practitioners were strictly disciplined and isolated, and our every word and deed was monitored. When washing their faces and going to the toilet, each practitioner was also isolated from other practitioners. Then the prison guards ordered the drug addicts to cut our hair and forced us to wear "the red card of strict discipline." Furthermore, they taught us their way of discipline, and forced us to learn to stand up, squat down, and shout "report" when entering the door. When seeing the prison guards, we were told to stand against the wall. When being ordered to talk, we had to squat and put our hands on our hips. In addition, we were forced to transcribe the "30 articles" that made up the prison regulations as well as the so-called "10 prohibits." If we did not transcribe the prison regulations or fail to remember the regulations within a day, we were not allowed to sleep and forced to continue standing against a wall.

Practitioners basically came together as one body at that time and refused to accept any of those rules. Before going to the dining room, the prison guards would order us to sing several labor camp songs. When the drug addicts sang those songs, we would recite Teacher's lectures. Once, when fellow practitioner Lan Mingxian from Xishui recited Teacher's lectures, the guards instigated the drug addicts to grab her head, hit and kick her and beat her face. We immediately went forward to stop them. Many practitioners were hit at that time. None of us hit back. Lan Mingxian's sister Lan Mingzhen was also a practitioner. She opened the window and shouted to the male teams downstairs, "They are beating Dafa practitioners upstairs." The dining room was chaotic during this moment. This event stirred the entire camp.

Fearing that we would influence the male teams, the prison guards moved us to the fourth story, leaving the whole third floor empty. Since then we were no longer allowed to eat in the dining room but got our meals inside the cells. We were only given a steamed bun for breakfast and rarely got any rice porridge. The prison guards instigated the drug addicts to snatch all of practitioners' daily necessities, clothes and food. For a long time the camp only provided us with flavorless boiled cabbage, carrots, and potatoes. We often discovered worms and small clumps of soil in the boiled vegetables.

When the visitors came, they would immediately order us to stop working in the plants. They led us to the television room to watch TV or study in one of the classrooms. The vegetables were also cleaned, and better cuts of meat was put on top of the vegetable container. We would be allowed to eat after the visitors left. Because we had not eaten food with a normal calorie and nutritional value or with oil for such a long time, we would have diarrhea right after we ate fatty portions of the meat. The drug addicts were allowed to freely use the toilets, but the guards would not allow us to enter the restrooms. When we had to go, they forced us to wait in order to inconvenience us. For instance, practitioner Wang Xiangdi from Huangshi City, Wuhan Province had been under "strict monitoring" for a long time because she refused to write the "three statements." * When she needed to use the restroom she was sometimes not allowed to go. This caused her bowel problems and was extremely painful. Guard Luo teased her, "Don't you Falun Gong practitioners practice 'Forbearance?' If you don't write the 'three statements' you will be treated as such."

Once, we realized that we should not wear "the red cards of strict discipline." We are practitioners, not prisoners. Guard Gao Xumei instigated the drug addicts to physically punish us, forcing us to stand against the wall. A piece of paper was placed between the body and the wall, on our heads and feet, and in our hands. If any of these pieces of paper dropped they kicked and hit us, deprived us of sleep, and forced us to do an excessive load of work. We again came to the conclusion that we should not passively accept this treatment, but should start a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Hence, none of their evil methods worked on us.

The guards then went to the various classes to threaten the drug addicts: if Falun Gong practitioners do not wear the "red cards of strict discipline," the entire class would be deprived of sleep. Some drug addicts forcibly put the red cards on us. We sternly warned the prison guards, "We are good people and are practitioners. The red cards are not something that we should wear." We were then dragged into a dark room, one by one, where four or five 1.8-meter-tall people were waiting with electric batons. All of the practitioners' heads, faces, the lower parts of the bodies, feet and legs were shocked. They did not stop until the red cards were again forcibly put on us. The face of a practitioner from Macheng City, Hubei Province was shocked to the point of being swollen, and she could not eat. Her eyes were so swollen that she could hardly see. Some practitioners became limp, and some practitioners' hands were numb due to the electric shock. For practitioners who held a hunger strike longer than 6 to 12 days, the guards would ruthlessly drag them away to be force-fed. Hu Jianzhen from Macheng City staged a hunger strike for 12 days. Her life was in danger when she was being force-fed. She was sent to the hospital for emergency care.

Afterwards we started practicing in the evenings. The guards then instigated the drug addicts to torture and harrass us, promising them a reduction of their terms. Realizing that we remained steadfast, they transferred some prison guards from male teams to carry on the persecution. They used methods like military training, forced standing in military postures, and standing against the wall all day long, intending to exhaust us physically. All of their methods were fruitless. Finally, regardless of daytime or evenings, as soon as we had some time, we would practice. Once, team leader Gao Xumei found pactitioner Rao Mianhua from Wuxue meditating. Gao immediately pulled her arms behind her back and then dragged her elsewhere to torture her. The tortures to her feet made her unable to walk. Her feet eventually were deformed and she was sent back to her local area before the term had expired. On another occasion, when practitioner Ding Hongxia from Macheng was going to practice the exercises, her hands were tied onto the bunk bed, and she was hung up, with her feet off the floor.

The guards often came to search our bodies and cells for the purpose of checking if we had Teacher's lectures. No matter how cold it was in winter, they would drive us to the hall and strip off all our clothes, even when we had our menstrual periods, with more than 100 people on site watching us. The younger, unmarried, practitioners were most terrified of this kind of humiliation. Some unwillingly wrote the "three statements," just because of this. The guards would examine the quilts, clothing, bedboard seams, and all the pockets and socks. One time the guards discovered that Gan Zhuyun, an over 50-year-old practitioner from Chongyang had written Teacher's lecture. They immediately cuffed her hands, did not allow her to use the restroom and deprived her of sleep. She was forced to stand on the cement floor in the freezing temperature for several days as punishment.

Whenever a TV showed fabricated news, or "The Focal Point Talk" and other programs defamed Dafa, the guards would force us to watch the news on TV. They also forced us to write a "response" after the program. Those who refused to write would not be permitted to sleep and were forced to stand for a long time.

Those practitioners who remained firm were sent to the "forceful guarding class." Zou Guixiang from Macheng was sent to this class and told a story of Buddhism to a fellow practitioner who wrote the "three statements." A prisoner named Zhang reported this to the guard, expecting to get her term reduced. A few days later, this prisoner was released, but Zou Guixiang was immediately sent to the strict discipline area, during a time when the temperature was as high as 105 F. She was not allowed to drink any water. Sometimes, they did not even give her any food. She had to stand against the wall for a long time. She suffered from all kinds of physical tortures until she could not stand any more and wrote the "guarantee statement." ** Around ten days before her term expired, she wrote a "solemn declaration" *** and left it in the strict disciplinary class, denying the evildoers' persecution.

The guard Li Jingyi and others often forced practitioners to view brainwashing materials and videos, which were full of slander and rumors. Erzhou practitioner Li Shaoxian suffered a mental collapse from the torture and was released before the term had expired. In addition, over 40 very firm practitioners were secretly sent to Shayang at 1:00 a.m. one day to be persecuted more severely.

* The "Three Statements" [Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.]

** The so-called "Guarantee Statement" [A statement to declare that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.]

*** "Solemn Declaration" [A declaration in which practitioners who had been forced to sign statements to give up practice solemnly declare that they did so against their will due to the tortures, and that they wish to continue to practice.]

Ms. He Yingqing was a senior mathematics lecturer of Biology and Electrical Engineering at Technique College in Changsa city. To advance their careers, the administration of the college collaborated with Zhao Jinyue (the Party Committee Secretary of the Baimalong Female Forced Labor Camp), Ding Cailan (The head of the brigade dedicated to judge Falun Gong practioners), and policewoman Yuan Jia to send Ms. He to the Brainwashing Center. They tried to force her to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. He was detained for 14 months.

Ms. He was unmoved by the torture she suffered in the Brainwashing Center and was sent to Baimalong Female Forced Labor Camp. On the 3^rd day of her detention, she was denied sleep and remained sleep deprived for a total of 18 days. The policemen and prison guards kept her awake by applying a special ointment (containing mint oil, camphor oil, eucalyptus oil, ammonia water) to her head or slapping her face. She broke though the torture with her strong righteous thoughts. Afterwards the prison guards directed about 10 drug criminal prisoners to force her to write the so-called "Guarantee Statement" [A statement to declare that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.] by holding her hands. She refused to cooperate with the demands of the evil policemen and was made to stand for 8 days. After that she was sent to the so-called shock brigade [a special unit that inflicts intense torture on those steadfast Falun Gong practitioners]. There she was handcuffed for 6 days without sleep. She was forced into a different torture posture each day and allowed to use the bathroom only twice a day. She is still illegally detained in the shock brigade and no one knows if she is still alive.

The full name of the shock brigade is the "Educating and Reforming Shock Brigade." It was founded in July 2002. It includes two special police force members, 5 policewomen, and over 10 prisoners. Zheng Xia, the head of the prison, even participated in some secret training session [of torturing]. Four prison cells serve as their torture chamber. They detain one practitioner in each cell. The means of torturing are shocking. They handcuff the practitioners on the iron bed and don't allow them to sleep. The practitioners are required to stand in a specific pose without moving. They would beat and kick the practitioner if the practitioner failed to stand still.

Ms. Yu Ying from Zhuzhou city was not allowed to sleep for 10 days. During that time, she lost consciousness twice and her hands were swollen from the handcuffs. Many practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest their illegal detention. The Forced Labor Camp sent all the practitioners on hunger strikes to the shock brigade. They were force fed every half hour. The policemen used a spoon to smash practitioners' mouths and chopsticks to pry their teeth open. Ms. Chen Yilan from Changde city had a puncture in her esophagus and lost her two front teeth from the chopsticks torture. Ms. Chen Yilan also had a broken leg from beatings. The practitioners were forced to write the rules of the forced labor camp many times and to weave a few pair of shoes from straw every day. If a practitioner could not get that work done, then she would be handcuffed or not allowed to sleep.

In the second half of October, Ms. Chen Ouxiang from Pinjiang county, Yueyang city was tortured to death during her first week in the shock brigade. She is not the only practitioner tortured to death in the shock brigade. The policemen extended the detention terms of all steadfast practitioners using ridiculous excuses. For example, they extended Ms. Luo Xiaoqiong's term for 3 months because she said, "Falun Dafa is good". New practitioners are forced into intense marathon-like brainwashing sessions. They swore at the practitioners all day long and forced them to read and watch material defaming Falun Gong. A few practitioners were even given psychiatric drugs intravenously.

Enquiry to the Foreign Minister from Eric Dlard, a member of the French Parliament.

Eric Dlard would like to draw the attention of the Foreign Minister to the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong is a cultivation practise based upon truthfulness, compassion and forbearance, combining meditation and physical exercises to purify the human body. However, this traditional practice, which is deeply rooted in China is regarded as a provocative political movement and an evil religion. Since 1999, the Chinese government has begun a systematic suppression of Falun Gong believers. Nearly 71 million people are under persecution (subject to arrest, detention, torture, re-education through labour, forced into psychiatric clinics and death). As a consequence of this, Eric Dlard demands to know from the Minister, what diplomatic policy our government will adopt to end this severe human rights abuse.

(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, a number of Dafa disciples were released from forced labor camps and returned home. After their release, most of them are without financial resources, and have difficulties getting by. Because of long-term imprisonment, some were fired by their employers, some had their businesses occupied, some of them were forced to divorce, and in some cases both husband and wife were imprisoned. There are many cases like these in China.

Under the circumstances, some practitioners suggested that those practitioners apply for the minimum living stipend. However, some practitioners are hesitant to do this; they feel that Dafa practitioners should not apply for assistance and it seemed that if the government were to provide for us, we would lose our self-assurance when doing things. Some were afraid the government would again find a chance to persecute them and try to force them to write a "guarantee statement." Some practitioners who were not in the forced labor camps felt they should provide assistance to the practitioners that were suffering financial problems; but others believed that those practitioners who are in financial troubles should take care of the problem themselves, since it is their own tribulation. The following are my thoughts:

Foremost, we must make sure our own opinions and mentalities are positioned correctly. Because of the evil's long-term persecution, brainwashing, and the Party's ill-intentioned propaganda, some practitioners formed false ideas and lost the concept of protecting their own rights. We must understand that we were not punished because we did something wrong; in fact, we are persecuted illegally because we upheld the truth and our beliefs, exposed evil, and clarified the truth. Therefore, we have nothing to hide and we should be open and maintain dignity when we deal with anybody. We did not have any disorderly conduct. On the contrary, it is the people who persecuted us who have committed crimes. They are the real criminals; they are shameless. When we look at the issue from the perspective of Fa rectification and the evil's persecution of Dafa disciples, we will not be affected by our acquired notions, and we will not feel timid or ashamed.

Before the persecution, Dafa disciples were all employed, and they were in fact good employees in general. It is the persecution that caused Dafa practitioners' financial hardships. We are not attached to money, but we will not allow evils to persecute Dafa disciples. Therefore, if it is allowed by regulations, Dafa disciples should apply for assistance, whether it's an unemployment benefit or a minimum living stipend. Of course we need to do our best to find a job. As for the saying, "the government is paying our bills," it is a false statement derived from the propaganda of the Party. People are paying all the bills all the time, including the government's bill. The government has the responsibility to society. Dafa disciples are exercising their basic rights when they apply for assistance, a condition created by the illegal persecution. However, we have to position ourselves correctly during the application. There should be no added condition when applying for help. To add a "guarantee statement" to the application for assistance is an illegal act. We should not foster this mental burden of anticipating this type of persecution. As a cultivator, we do not think about personal gain or loss too much, and we are not attached to outcomes. The above discussion is focused on Dafa disciples.

Another important aspect is that we can clarify the truth on how Dafa disciples have been falsely accused and illegally persecuted by the government agencies and employees. Some of the Dafa practitioners who were released from the forced labor camps were "reformed" against their wills and have deficiencies in their understanding and mental state, therefore they should first study the Fa more to correct themselves. We should also recognize that the related government agencies were our targets to clarify the truth, and we do have the responsibility to let them know how evil the persecution is. As long as we have a common understanding, we can carry out the work case by case with our wisdom.

I know a Dafa disciple who was released from the labor camp recently. Her work unit moved her to the street committee with only 200 Yuan a month living stipend. She believed that her employer was persecuting her because she was a Falun Gong practitioner, and she decided not to accept it. She talked with her employer and told them that she met all the retirement requirements, and her forced labor sentence was an illegal persecution, and they should not disregard her contribution to the employer over the years. She requested her employer to process the proper paperwork for her retirement and pay her pension. Her employer was very rude and rejected her request. She did not give up. While continuing to communicate with her employer, she began to visit government agencies that have authority over her employer and the street committee office. She told them what happened and clarified the truth to them, especially how the law enforcement agency knowingly committed crimes and how she was brutally tortured and abused. Because the practitioner had no fear and a positive mentality, her employer processed her retirement paperwork and eventually began paying her pension. More importantly, many people heard the truth throughout this application process.

Dafa disciples are one body body. "The next person's things are your things, and your things are his things." ("Teaching the Fa at Washington, D.C. Fa Conference, 2002") It is appropriate to help those practitioners who have financial difficulties due to persecution, and the help is also a measure to fight the evil's persecution. The purpose of help is to let practitioners clarify the truth and cultivate, and it is also a huge mental support and encouragement. This is different than an example Master gave in 1999 East USA Experience Sharing Conference. In that example, practitioners continuously gave financial support to a practitioner who had temporary financial difficulty, which might lead the practitioner to give up cultivation. That was about an individual cultivation period, and the hardship was indeed to test the practitioner in his individual cultivation. But right now we are in the Fa-rectification period, and the persecution was forced on us by evil, and we refuse to accept it. "Except for newer students, from July 20 of 1999 on, Master hasn't created any personal cultivation tests for you, and that's because overall your personal cultivation has changed in every respect so that it's in the direction of saving sentient beings and validating Dafa." ("Explaining the Fa during the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference") We should not limit ourselves to the framework of individual cultivation when we look at the various situations in Fa-rectification, including persecution endured by practitioners. Rather, we should look at those issues from the perspective of validating the Fa, saving sentient beings, and breaking the evil's persecution. If we can do that, we are not individuals who have no connection, but particles of a whole body. We are closely connected, and together we have the responsibility of validating the Fa and saving sentient beings. We should help and take care of each other.

Dafa disciples are not attached to outcomes, "Do but pursue not-----Often stay in the Dao." (Hong Yin)

The above is my personal experience, please kindly point it out if you find anything that is inappropriate.

I went to a city to set up a place for making truth-clarifying materials. It is a medium-sized city with several surrounding counties. Because of some constraints, practitioners in the area and nearby had tried hard to set up such a place, but failed.

Before I went to this city, I learned that local practitioners had already found a good location and some people willing to work there. They were waiting for me to check out the facilities, the printing materials, and to help with some technical training.

When I arrived, however, the situation was different. The key person planning to work there was not available, leaving only one practitioner who didn't have much experience. It was very hard for him to work alone. Also, although the landlord promised to lease the house to us, in the end he changed his mind and leased it to someone else.

After discussing this situation with practitioners, we felt that we needed to not get anxious through doing this work. Otherwise, things could go wrong. We should take things as they are. We need only to try our best, improve our understanding of the Fa, and look within ourselves. I decided to stay for one more day before going home, and to come back after a new place had been rented.

We all knew that it was our own loopholes that brought the interference. But where exactly were the loopholes? Whenever we sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the barriers on this issue, it always seemed as though we were not firm enough. There were some problems among us. We didn't have strong righteous thoughts.

A practitioner mentioned a dream that he had had before. There was a horrible scene: A flood came with huge waves as high as mountains. Under the waves stood many people. Upon hearing the dream, I realized where our loopholes were. What we want to do is to save people. A flyer or a brochure can save one or several people in the world. How about a place to continuously print truth-clarifying materials? How many sentient beings can be saved then?

What was our standpoint on this issue? When we came across difficulties, all we thought about first was personal cultivation. "What attachments do I have?" "What loopholes do I have that had been taken advantage of?" "How can I find them?" "How can I perfect myself?" "How can I prevent the evil from persecuting me?" It was "my" cultivation, perfection, and security were put as first priority, while saving people was relegated to second place.

As practitioners of the Fa-rectification period, what should we put as first priority? Saving the sentient beings. Why we undergoing Fa-rectification? Isn't it to save all sentient beings that are going towards degeneration and destruction? Otherwise, Master only needs to wave his hand and recreate everything in a split second. Isn't it easy? As disciples at the Fa-rectification period, aren't the three things Master asks us to do meant to save more sentient beings?

Realizing this critical point, I felt ashamed. I became firm at heart and said to the old forces, "I do have attachments. But, is there anything more important than saving the sentient beings? It is a mission that Master asks us to do. No one should stop us and no one can stop us, no matter what excuses they may have."

So I said to other practitioners, "I am not going home. We cannot just accept things as they are. Setting up this place is something we have to do." We sat down to send forth righteous thoughts together. At that moment, I felt I was standing at the right point and I had the power to melt down anything and overcome anything. I didn't worry about whether I had strong righteous thoughts or not, or whether I had great powers. I had nothing. I remembered, "The Buddha School requires emptiness, and the Tao School teaches nothingness." (Zhuan Falun) Now I have a firm mind to save sentient beings. I have to save them, for that is what I come here for.

The next day, we found a new location. I stayed and worked there myself. Thus, the problem of place and staff was solved and the place was set up.

Perspective is a fundamental issue. Why would the cosmos go towards degeneration and destruction? Why after countless cycles of "Formation, Stasis, Degeneration, and Destruction" has this problem not yet been solved? The boundless wisdom of higher beings couldn't stop the cosmos from going towards degeneration and destruction. Why? My understanding is that it is because of fundamental "selfishness."

Seeing the beings below them are degenerating, the enormous Kings and Lords of the cosmos destroy them and create new ones. They never think that the deterioration is caused by their own impurities.

If one does not change fundamentally, all the changes on the surface are illusions that won't last long.

I recently came into contact with several fellow practitioners who were experiencing various degrees of demonic interference through sleepiness. Whenever such a situation arose, these practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate it. However, they forgot to look within themselves to see whether they had any attachment that allowed the interference to exist. This way, the sending forth righteous thoughts would eliminate the evil demon once and for all and they would not need to send forth righteous thoughts many times.

To completely eliminate the demonic interference of sleepiness, we need to see if we have any attachments that provide the opportunities and conditions for its existence. Through experience sharing, we concluded that the attachments to comfort and human sentimentality are the two main areas that foster this evil demon. Symptoms of attachment to comfort are: having the habit of going to sleep early and getting up late; wanting to doze off on a rainy day; and having the feeling of missing something when not getting eight hours of sleep a night, etc. Symptoms of human sentimentality include taking a nap when encountering any obstacle or unhappy event in daily life, hoping to see friends or family in dreams, etc. So, the more we sleep, the more we want to sleep; the more we sleep, the more we become dazed; and the more we sleep, the more it affects the results of studying the Fa, sending forth righteous thoughts, and clarifying the truth. Therefore, we humanly foster the evil demon and allow it to capitalize on the loopholes that are caused by our lack of control. If we do not raise our Xinxing (moral character, heart or mind nature) and strengthen our main consciousness, getting rid of the demonic interference is like fighting a battle on paper only. Let's break through the demonic interference of sleepiness, improve our ability to do the three things Master has told us to do, and welcome the arrival of the day the Fa rectifies the human realm.

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 10, 2003, "610 Office" * officers kidnapped me. Helped by Master's strength and fellow practitioners' righteous thoughts, I left the brainwashing class after six days. In retrospect, these days looking back on the experience, I have the following to share with you. Please kindly point out any of my attachments:

On the morning of September 10, the head of the "610 Office" came to my home to talk with me. I wasn't at home. He then asked a subordinate official to wait for me and left, to return later. After I came back, this official told me his intention. We waited for the head outside. My daughter called me several times during that time, telling me that a classmate had invited our family for dinner and I should leave right away; otherwise, we would be late. Later I realized that Master tried to tell me that I should leave right away. Considering the good relationship with this official who used to be very kind to me, I didn't want to embarrass him. So I didn't go. After a few minutes, the head of the "610 Office" arrived with seven to eight people and dragged me into a car, taking me to a brainwashing class without saying a word.

That night I couldn't get to sleep. I repeatedly looked inward. I remembered that Master said:

I found the reason for my present circumstance - I took "friendship" too seriously and thus let the evildoers take advantage of me. I didn't fully understand the evil in this critical moment and loosened my vigilance. That is why I was kidnapped. I was so full of regret. After a while I calmed down and silently prayed to Master that I would do better in the future. I went on a food and water strike from the day I got into the brainwashing class to protest this abduction.

The days following my food and water strike, all kinds of feelings bombarded me. During the days of the Mid-Autumn Festival, my daughter and friends sent in fruit, beverages, moon cake and various kinds of other food. My relatives and friends persuaded me to eat a little bit when nobody was watching. No matter whether or not I ate, the guard put the food by my side at every meal, accompanied by another round of persuasion. The vicious persons in the brainwashing class bombarded me in turn, "You don't eat? Let's see how long you can hold up. We see this quite a lot... If you keep refusing, we will force feed you." I closed my eyes and refused to eat anything. No matter who said what, I was not persuaded at all. On the fourth day they sent me to the hospital. Although I took in some water, I still refused to take any food. I made up my mind to hold on until they released me.

On the way from my home to brainwashing class, the head of the "610 Office" was very wild. He threatened me by scolding his subordinates. I realized that this was a good chance to expose it. I shouted out, "Stop it! I am cultivating Falun Dafa. What's wrong with being a kind person, behaving according to 'Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance'? Look at you! You talk one way and act another. You said you wanted to talk with me but it turned that you arrested me." He stopped talking right away and started to contact the brainwashing class. I continued to tell the truth to the five remaining guards in the car. I told them, "Falun Dafa has now spread to more than sixty nations and regions! Jiang Zemin was sued overseas!" They all listened quietly and silently till I got to the brainwashing class.

My employer-company sent one person per day to monitor me and live with me in one room in this brainwashing class. The door was locked from the outside. Even going to the bathroom required calling someone to open the door. Those several people who monitored me were all sick with this. I thought that all these people had the predestined relationship to be with me. I took the opportunity to tell them the truth.

After I was sent to the hospital, the number of people to monitor me increased from one to two. During six days, seven people watched me, as well as two frequently visiting officials and drivers, a total close to a dozen of people. I told them the truth according to their acceptance level and answered their questions. I felt happy in my heart to make them have the right understanding of Dafa. Some of them had a very good understanding of Dafa and discussed some deeper questions with me; for example - loss and gain, the relation of De and karma, reincarnation and so on. One also showed high admiration of Dafa practitioners. He asked me one day, "Why don't you run away?" I said, "If you let me go, won't they blame you for dereliction of duty?" He said, "I am not afraid! Everyone neglects something. It won't be much more than the deduction of a bonus or disciplinary penalties. When your reputation is restored, mine is also restored, right?" I felt very happy hearing his words. Then, when nobody was around, he helped me and gave me some good ideas on how to get out.

The second morning in brainwashing class, the police told me to go to the second floor for some matter and told me it would only take a few minutes. At that moment I was talking with my family folks who were visiting me. I didn't have a second thought and went upstairs. There were only a few people in the room. The banner in the front told me it was for so-called "commencement of class."

Then I heard arguing voices from the second floor. Several female practitioners refused to come. At that moment I realized that I had done it wrong. Master had pointed out in the scripture "Dafa Disciples' Righteous Thoughts are Powerful", "Why should you, a Dafa disciple, fear the evil ones when enduring persecution? The crux of the matter is that you have attachments. If not, do not endure passively, and face the evil people with righteous thoughts at all times. No matter what the situation, do not cooperate with the evil's demands, orders, or what it instigates. If everyone does this, the environment won't be this way." I went downstairs right away. The guards asked me why. I told them I had something to do. After a while they called me again. I told them they already had some people there. Then someone came by and said the meeting was cancelled. At that moment I very much admired those female practitioners who did so well that it broke the arrangement of the evil's intentions.

From then on, I kept on doing this - as long as I was in the brainwashing class I would absolutely not eat nor drink. No matter who came to persuade me, I would not change my mind. All I asked was to release me. I stayed in bed every day.

Later I was sent to the hospital. I persisted in not taking injections and medicine, no matter what the doctors and nurses said. On the second day, the evildoers brought seven to eight persons to push me on the bed and forced an injection. When they saw that I no longer moved, they all went back to brainwashing class, so I pulled the needle out. Then the vicious enforcers came back to force the injection on me. This time they left one person to monitor me.

Through the above experience I realized that doing such could attract lots of energy and attention away from the vicious people. When everybody would be doing it this way, the evil would be terribly exhausted and defeated. The brainwashing class would be eliminated.

This is my first time experiencing such tribulations. I am not a confident individual and was also afraid at that time that I might not do it well. However, I kept on doing the following:

No matter if it is day or night, whenever there is no one talking to me, I would keep on sending righteous thought and comprehensively eliminate all ghosts and evil spirits and the old forces' interference. We eliminated the evil in the brainwashing class every day when we were still at home. Now I am here myself. Isn't this a good opportunity to send forth righteous thoughts in close proximity? I did not relax a bit and kept on the whole time.

Besides sending forth righteous thoughts, I also kept on reciting Master's scripture to strengthen myself. For all I could remember and all fellow practitioners recited to me, I repeatedly recite. In this evil environment, reciting Master's scripture, carefully study its profound meanings. I felt my mind was immediately clear. I had no fear and was full of strength. It didn't matter that I did not eat or drink. Nothing could affect me.

3) Remember that I am a disciple of Master. I must follow Master's requirements.

Whenever my heart was unstable or I experienced a critical moment, I would ask Master to strengthen me, just as if Master was by my side. For example, the second day into the brainwashing class happened to be the Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon Festival), also my second day of my hunger strike. I was not confident and asked Master for strength. I also thought that, "I, a disciple, make up my mind to break out the den of monsters! This is not the place where I should stay." In the past I would be very uncomfortable for missing one meal. Now I didn't eat or drink for two days but felt very comfortable and went to sleep shortly after. I woke up at midnight. The light of the full moon shone on me. I felt like seeing Master and was very excited. I said to myself, "Thank you, Master, for strengthening me. Thank you, all you practitioners who sent forth righteous thoughts for me."

On the third day of the food and water strike the vicious people told me, "If you still do not eat and drink tomorrow, you will be force-fed. It hurts badly." I thought, "Master, your disciple will do it well. I am not afraid of force-feeding, but it is better not to let them do it." During the afternoon of the fourth day they informed me to undergo a medical exam in the hospital. They even ordered me to take my clothes with me, to prepare to stay in the hospital. When I arrived at the hospital I was diagnosed as suffering from high blood pressure, low blood sugar, kidney dysfunction, tachycardia, (irregular heartbeat) and other ailments. I was asked to be hospitalized immediately and therefore did not have to endure force-feeding.

After I was admitted to the hospital, I began drinking water but still kept on my hunger strike. In my heart I asked Master to strengthen me. I made up my mind to break out of the hospital. On the seventh day in the morning around five o'clock, as soon as the door on the third floor opened, the hospital staff were exchanging shifts. The guards were sound asleep. That is when I took the opportunity and, in the process of washing my face, walked out of the door with dignity. Although I hadn't eaten for six days and nights, I walked easily and relaxed. Just like this, I broke out from the den of evildoers and was back into the torrent of Fa rectification.

* The "610 Office" is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well all other political and judiciary systems.

To rescue Lin Hsiao-Kai and other Taiwanese practitioners detained in China, Taipei Minghui School young practitioners collected signatures during their group practice on October 26 at the Zhongzheng Memorial.

There were many visitors in the memorial in the weekend. Many people had learned about the illegal detention through newspapers and TV.. They realized that the Jiang Regime's illegal detention of Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners was a serious violation of Taiwan people's basic human rights and signed their names to show their support.

The activity concluded successfully in the evening. Many people actively signed their names in support. All wished the safe return of detained practitioners.

About six months ago, a friend told me about a "new thing" in China. One evening, he received a phone call with a computer-generated "Hello, please listen to the important information: -----please enter1, -------please enter 2, -----please enter 3-----" He casually picked a number and heard information clarifying the facts about Falun Dafa. He was so curious and excited that he entered a few different keys and listened for over half an hour. Later, the neighbors talked about it to each other. Maybe many people in that area had received the same calls that day.

These calls were made by overseas Dafa practitioners. This method of clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa has many good points. Because they receive the phone call at home, do not talk directly with someone and need not answer back, the recipients of the calls aren't as nervous about it. [As wiretapping by the government is very common in China, people are afraid to speak freely, even in a private telephone conversation.] Also the receivers listen to the computer voice and they can actively choose the content of what they want to hear, so they are very curious about it and the results of listening to the facts about Falun Gong are much better.

In 1995, my wife suddenly had a relapse of a recurring stomach problem that caused her to vomit no matter what she ate. She had chest and abdominal distention, indigestion, and she often had the hiccups. Although we visited all the nearby famous doctors of Chinese medicine and tried every treatment they had to offer, my wife's condition continued to worsen. As she ate less and less, she became weaker and weaker.

I became very worried, so I took her to the Fourth Hospital in Hebei Province and to the hospital of my work unit for examination. Both hospitals diagnosed her with inflammation of the stomach and duodenal ulcer. We decided to move into my work unit in order to be closer to the doctor. We went to every hospital in Shijiazhuang City [the capital of Hebei Province] and many private hospitals. She tried every possible Western and Chinese medicine, but nothing worked. We heard that Sanzhu Company's liquid medicine was very good for stomach problems, so I spent 800 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly wage in China] and bought a whole box. However, she had to quit taking it after drinking only 3 bottles because it made her feel even sicker. Our house was full of leftover medicines. We could almost open our own medicine shop. Within 2 years, we spent 5,000 to 6,000 Yuan [about one year wage] on medical expenses, but my wife's situation was only getting worse.

Even in the summer, she had to wear a sweater and wool pants to keep warm. During sleep, she had to cover herself with a heavy quilt. Everyday, she could only eat a little bit of rice gruel and, as she became weaker, she began to have difficulty walking. At night, she could never sleep well. For months, she could not eat when she was hungry nor could she sleep when she was tired. For many nights, she'd lie in bed and say to me with a shaking voice: "I feel that I will die soon. Let's go home." Hearing those words pierced my heart like a knife. I swallowed my tears. How could I stand to see her suffer like this? I felt completely helpless and began lose all hope.

Just when I thought all hope was gone, I obtained a copy of Zhuan Falun and gave it to my wife to read. After reading it for a week, a miracle happened. All of a sudden she could sleep and eat, and her severe stomachache disappeared. One month later, she could do the Falun Gong exercises without any assistance. After doing the exercises, she felt her body become very light. While riding a bicycle, she felt as if someone was pushing her from behind. She studied Falun Dafa very diligently. Following the principles Zhen-Shan-Ren [Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance] in her everyday life, she continually upgraded her xinxing [mind nature]. Within six months, she had totally regained her health and became very energetic. She told me happily, "I'm alive again! Falun Gong saved my life!"

The change in my wife was so miraculous that it inspired me to read Zhuan Falun for myself. After reading the book with a calm mind over and over again, I could see that this book came from heaven. I made up my mind to follow the principle of Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance) and upgrade my xinxing. Aspiring to become a good person, I began speaking to people nicely and considering others first. I became a better worker and learned to not compete with others for fame and personal gain. When faced with a conflict, I began to look within myself for the problem. Even when I was wronged, I was able to take it lightly. The bad temper that I had in the past quickly melted away. I no longer became angry with my wife and children and I even began to do a lot of the housework. Our family became very peaceful and harmonious.

After less than six months of practicing Falun Dafa, my heart disease was gone. I was now able to sleep well at night and no longer needed to take medicine. My stomach problem was cured as well. Since 1997, I had difficulty walking, due to a problem with my left leg. I had gone to a famous massage therapist many times and spent 380 Yuan, but it was useless. However, after learning Falun Dafa, the problem disappeared. Falun Dafa saved my wife and it saved me!

If everyone could truly be responsible to the country and to oneself, be a good person, and be kind to others, our society would stabilize and become better and better. This is everyone's dream. Why does Jiang Zemin use drastic measures to persecute good people and ban Falun Gong, a practice that is so beneficial to the country and its people? His actions are irrational and against the law. If people are not convinced of the truth, the situation will only get worse. It is Falun Dafa that saved my wife's life and released me from my illnesses. Nowadays in society, no matter what rank or age, people are bound by illness and frustration. We have found the way to live righteous, peaceful, and happy lives. Why would the government try to stop this? Don't they care about their people? Kind-hearted people, please think about it carefully.

(Clearwisdom.net October 23) VOA reports from Hong Kong: a new report by the group "Reporters Without Borders" reports that many Asian countries do not respect press freedom. The report makes a list of countries according to their respect for press freedom. The list does not necessarily parallel economic success, with several rich countries achieving low marks.

The report was compiled from questionnaires given to journalists, academics, researchers, and human rights activists in all countries surveyed. It is the group's second annual report.

China is saying it has loosened controls on its media, but Mr. Cheesman says the country's laws still violate basic press freedom. He says, "Structurally there is not any real change in China, we cannot say there has been much in terms of liberalization of the existing laws or the structure that manages the media. However, the way the media is operating now is changing considerably. There is an increasing role for the market forces in the way the media operates, as a result, the links to the (communist ruling) party are weakening. "

Reporters Without Borders points out that several Asian nations lack press freedom, but the report also indicates some pleasant phenomena in Asia. On the list, South Korea took the 49^th place, while Hong Kong stood at 56, not far behind the United States, which ranked in the low thirties. Northern European nations dominate the top-10 ranks as those with the freest media.

(Clearwisdom.net) Wu Guanzheng is the leader of Shandong Province and is at the forefront of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China. On Monday 27th October while Wu was visiting Cyprus, Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference at the Classic Hotel in Nicosia.

Cypriot Human rights lawyer Laris Vrahimis filed a complaint against Wu Guanzheng for crimes of torture, genocide and crimes against humanity.

Being victims of genocide, Falun Gong practitioners attracted a lot of attention from the media. Reporters from four main TV channels, a few large newspapers, national radio and some news agencies were present at the conference. The press conference lasted for one hour, during which the reporters listened carefully and with interest.

Mrs Dai Zhizhen, whose husband was tortured and murdered in China for practising and supporting Falun Gong, made a speech at the conference, along with some other victims of the persecution.

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Cuiying's painting exhibition was originally scheduled to run from October 6th through October 10th in Bulgaria's parliament building. However, it was cancelled after tremendous pressure from the Chinese Embassy.

Bulgarian people from many different walks of life questioned why this happened, including members of parliament, government officials and the media. As a result, many people had the opportunity to understand what Falun Gong is, the persecution that Falun Gong practitioners are suffering in China, and the status of the global lawsuit against Jiang Zemin. As stated by a reporter, "It is far more meaningful and influential to let people understand the facts. At the very beginning, my attention was caught by the cancellation of the painting exhibition. The cancellation of the event has stimulated far more attention and has shocked all sectors of society from high levels of government to the media."

Local Dafa practitioners, together with practitioners from the UK and Sweden supported the exhibition and held a press conference for the event on October the 9th. Several reporters participated in the conference, including Bulgaria's most-popular newspaper, "Twenty-Four Hours" and Bulgaria's National Broadcasting Station. Practitioners introduced Falun Gong and exposed the unreasonable conduct of the Chinese Embassy. After the conference, Bulgaria's National Broadcasting Station interviewed two Dafa practitioners about the basic principles of Falun Gong, the benefits people get from practising, the number of practitioners worldwide and the painting exhibition itself including how it has been welcomed in many countries and won many awards. The interview was aired nationwide two hours later. At least three newspapers published the contents of the interview the next day.

The most noticeable report was provided by "Banker's Finance" newspaper, which ran a full-page detailed report. It introduced the painter's experience of practicing Falun Gong and the persecution she has suffered. It also described how this painting exhibition was organized with unreserved support from Member of Parliament Mrs. Snezhina Chipeva. The article also explained that the artist Zhang Cuiying was filing a lawsuit against the former Chinese dictator, Jiang Zemin. The article stated that the Chinese ambassador paid a personal visit to the Bulgarian government official at the parliament building, and the notification for the cancellation of the exhibition was made soon afterwards. The newspaper tried its best to verify the cause of the cancellation with the parliament, but was told "no comment". At the end of the report, it stated, "Bulgaria will be the first country to cancel a painting exhibition under pressure. More importantly, people will say this is the only parliament in the world in which foreign diplomats can tell us what to hang on the walls."

Mrs. Snezhina Chipeva MP expressed her astonishment at the cancellation of the painting exhibition under pressure from the Chinese Embassy. She visited, and praised Zhang Cuiying's exhibition when it was held at the European Council building in Belgium last spring. As a result, she provided active support to Zhang Cuiying's exhibition in Bulgaria. She also prepared an enthusiastic speech for the exhibition's opening ceremony. She believed the cancellation of the exhibition is "interference in Bulgaria's domestic affairs". Many members of parliament questioned the Parliament's Secretary General, and demanded an explanation of this issue.

Just as a reporter stated, "The event is not over yet. I feel it will influence Bulgaria's future. It is very dangerous for a government to place economic interests over human rights."

Why are Jiang Zemin and his group so afraid of a painting exhibition held by a Falun Gong practitioner?

Why are Jiang Zemin and his group so afraid of a Falun Gong practitioner's painting exhibition? It is because they are afraid of "truthfulness, compassion and tolerance". They are frightened of the spread of the facts, frightened by the truth of Falun Gong, and frightened when their lies and crimes are exposed. When all people know the facts of the persecution and the truth about Falun Gong, this evil persecution will no longer be able to continue.

Zhang Cuiying, an Australian citizen, an artist and a Falun Gong practitioner who was tortured for eight months in four different Chinese prisons, has traveled to more than 100 cities in over forty countries since her release in 2000. Through her painting exhibitions, she has explained how she was arrested, imprisoned and tortured after appealing to Jiang's regime, governments and people worldwide. Her appeal called for the Jiang regime to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Her actions have received widespread support and praise worldwide, and have received close attention from international legal societies. With great support from Mr. Geoffrey Robertson QC, a well-known lawyer, she is preparing to file an individual lawsuit against Jiang Zemin, who is the primary instigator of the persecution against Falun Gong.

Zhang's painting exhibition is part of Falun Gong practitioners' efforts to promote "truthfulness, benevolence and forbearance" and to expose the persecution. This is why the painting exhibition has become a thorn in the flesh of the evil group that persecutes Falun Gong.

Zhang's first painting exhibition, held in Ukraine's capital city Kiev, was a great success. Lots of major media organizations provided positive coverage of her paintings and her ordeal whilst imprisoned. When she came to Kiev last March for the second exhibition, the Chinese Embassy dispatched delegates to apply pressure on the Ukrainian government. The exhibition was cancelled just before it opened. Several days later, local practitioners in the Ukraine successfully moved the exhibition to another gallery, and exposed the interference from the Chinese government to the media.

Initially, the next painting exhibition after the Ukraine was planned for Budapest, the capital of Romania. On the eve of the exhibition, Dafa practitioners received a phone call from the Chinese Embassy in Romania. They demanded that practitioners suspend the exhibition, but the request was rejected. The Chinese Embassy also applied pressure on the company who owned the exhibition hall, but they failed to stop the exhibition. Chinese officials, associated with the Embassy, participated in the opening ceremony personally to directly interfere with the exhibition. They threatened the audience and even showed a fake Sino-Romanian agreement, which stated that the two countries would jointly restrain Falun Gong activities. The painting exhibition was forced to terminate. However, a reporter who was present at the opening ceremony found that the agreement was only signed by China. Local Dafa practitioners approached the Romanian Department of Foreign Affairs, and were told that such an agreement did not exist. The Romanian government received letters from all over the world, including letters from members of the European Parliament and government officials of other countries. They all condemned the illegal behavior of the Chinese embassy, which has carried out all sorts of shameful acts.

Afterwards, Zhang Cuiying's exhibition was successfully held in Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland up to March of this year. Her painting exhibitions have obtained support from the governments and community organizations in these countries.

However, the evil group has not given up. They are still trying to grasp every opportunity that they can find to interfere with the painting exhibition. When Zhang Cuiying's painting exhibition was held in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia for the second time, the local Chinese Embassy reacted as though they were dealing with a formidable enemy, because this exhibition was to be held in the Bulgarian parliament under support provided by members of parliament. The Embassy did their utmost to obstruct the exhibition. They spread materials in parliament to attack Falun Gong, and imposed tremendous pressure on the person in charge of administration in the Parliament. Under immense pressure, the chief administrator hurriedly made a decision to cancel the opening ceremony and the press conference that was originally scheduled for October the 8th.

Mrs. Snezhina Chipeva, a Bulgarian MP, who has provided great support to the painting exhibition said in a press release, "Ms. Zhang used to suffer from severe rheumatoid arthritis. Her body was paralyzed by the disease, and she had to lie in bed and give up painting. However, a miracle happened. She benefited from a traditional Chi-Gong cultivation of mind which is based on the principles of "truthfulness-benevolence-forbearance". Even though this brutal persecution had occurred, she did not stop telling people the truth about her belief. All of these have been mixed into her paintings."

The extent of the responses over the suspension of the painting exhibition has been very profound. The outrageous arrogance and absurd conduct of the Chinese Embassy in interfering with the domestic affairs of other countries has triggered intensive reactions from various sectors of society, particularly from the media. Dafa practitioners from Bulgaria and several other countries held a press conference in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria on October the 9th. The largest business newspaper in Bulgaria keenly pointed out the mistake made by the government official who cancelled the painting exhibition, "It is not hard to predict what will happen next. Bulgaria will become infamous to the world because she is the first-ever nation to cancel a painting exhibition under pressure...Most importantly, the public will comment on the Parliament, because a diplomat from another country can make an order to demand what paintings can be hung on the Parliament's wall." There were several other media organizations that provided very favorable coverage of Falun Gong. What is going on actually goes beyond the anticipation of the Jiang regime, every time they have intended to interfere with the painting exhibition, it became an opportunity for the general public and all levels of society to understand the truth about Falun Gong.

(Clearwisdom.net) On the 18th and 19th of October, the first Siegen Health Expo was held at the Siegen Exhibition Hall. Siegen is situated between where the German counties of Rheinlandpfalz, Hessen and Nord Rheinwestfalen meet. The expo contained about a hundred exhibition booths including the Red Cross and also all kinds of Oriental and Western therapies.

When local Falun Gong practitioners received news about the Health Expo, they signed up to run a booth. Apart from introducing Falun Gong and telling people the facts about the persecution, practitioners taught the exercises voluntarily on the grass outside the exhibition hall. The organisers of the exhibition also came to the Dafa stand to learn more about Falun Gong before giving an introduction of over the hall's public address system. Their introduction recommended that people participate in learning the Falun Gong exercises.

Driving through small communities that don't have any practitioners, we have become the voice of the body of practitioners, reaching the hearts of many Canadians who have been eagerly waiting to learn the facts.

The morning of October 21^stwe were scheduled to arrive in the cities of Abbotsford and Chilliwack to meet with local media. The location we'd planned on in Abbotsford wasn't ideal due to its remoteness, so we changed plans and set up our pictorial display in a more busy and central location. After redirecting the media we started to practice the exercises and clarify the truth to passersby. One man was so touched by what he heard that he stayed with us for a long time. He said that he felt better to have met us and that our meeting had a positive impact in his life.

In Chilliwack, our righteous field attracted many people including a group of young men and boys who readily wanted to learn the practice. We also received many "thumbs up" and encouraging honks from the many passing cars.

We went to visit the Mayor's office in Abbotsford and met with his secretary. She was delighted to meet with us and was touched by our stories and by the fact that we took the time to stop and talk with her. She promised to make copies of our truth-clarifying material and present them to all the council members. As we entered the Mayor's office in Chilliwack, the mayor had just come out of a meeting. Seeing us at the reception desk, he came right away to attend us. We gladly offered him an information package and explained what Falun Dafa is and about it's history, letting him know about the Global Coalition to Bring Jiang to Justice, and what he could do to help. He parted promising to study the documents carefully.

Everywhere we go, and with every person we meet, we truly feel as though history is being made; people are learning the facts and the practice, and this will affect their future tremendously.

Falun Gong meant little to 30-year-old Yinghua Chen before the Chinese government crackdown of 1999.

After that, the attraction was like that of a moth to a flame. "She felt the government was wrong to crack down so after that time she began taking it seriously, and started the practise," said her 35-year-old brother, Yingyee Chen, a research technician at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo.

Falun Gong is a mental and physical self-improvement regime based on a series of exercises and meditation.

Large groups of its followers performed their smooth, graceful exercises in Chinese parks and squares in the early 1990s, until then-president Jiang Zemin started systematically jailing, torturing and even killing its practitioners.

Yinghua was arrested in August for distributing computer discs with information on Falun Gong.

Though she has been spared the more brutal torture others have experienced, when she went on a hunger strike her jailers chained her to her bed, then left a feeding tube inside her for too long, causing infection.

As with all such cases, the government wants practitioners to sign a form, denouncing the practise of Falun Gong.

"Now I realize if you are a true believer you will be very happy, even if you are persecuted very seriously," Yingyee said.

A reprieve of sorts came on Monday (Oct. 13), when Yinghua was released, thin and malnourished, into house arrest.

"She is fine," Yingyee said. "She told me she is recovering very fast. Also, she is practicing Falun Gong, so that helps. She's very weak, but mentally she's very strong. She is very determined to stay fighting the authorities."

Her release is only temporary. She knows she could get a knock on her door at any time, and be back in the hands of her interrogators.

Canadian Falun Gong practitioners have taken up the cause, with a cross-country march to raise awareness of the plight of Yinghua and others like her.
They demonstrated at Nanaimo City Hall Tuesday.

Nanaimo MP James Lunney wants the Canadian government to pressure the Chinese government to ease up on practitioners at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.

"We also know about 20,000 Christians who are imprisoned in China, and freedom from religious persecution is a basic human right," Lunney said.

In early August, Chen Yinghus, a 30-year-old Falun Gong practitioners in Jiaxing City, China was arrested for distributing CDs about the practice.

She has been in jail ever since, and her brother, Chen Yingyi, who lives in Nanaimo, claims she is being tortured. Chen's sister is one of many Falun Gong practitioners in China who have been arrested for practicing Falun Gong, which combines the physical and meditative aspects of qi gong with certain moral precepts.

It is the plight of people like Chen Yinghua that Canadian Falun Gong adherents hope to bring to the attention of the Canadian government and public during a cross-county campaign aimed at pressuring China to stop its repression of Falun Gong.

The prime minister is going to visit China. I hope he can raise this issue, says Chen, who is a lab technician at the Pacific Biological Research Station.

The cross-Canada Tour for Justice will be in Nanaimo Oct 14 to raise awareness of the plight of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Falun Gong Tour for Justice for Victims will gather at city hall (455 Wallace St.) at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a picture display, Falun Gong demonstrations and a number of speakers. Chen is not a Falun Gong
practitioner himself, but his mother and sister are. He hopes public pressure will help her.

Chen's sister has been in custody since Aug. 8. She refused to tell police where she got the Falun Gong CDs she had been distributing, and when she was not released she started a hunger strike on Sept. 13. Officials responded by strapping her to a hospital bed and force-feeding her through a tube, Chen says. He fears she could die.

Falun Gong started in China in 1992. Originally, the government tolerated and even encouraged it.

But Falun Gong practitioners claim there are now 100 million practitioners in China, and the Chinese government now views it as a serious threat.

Police Agent Y in our city (Section Chief of the Public Security Branch Bureau) persecuted Dafa disciples. He later got ill and was hospitalized. After they learned this, two Dafa practitioners went to the hospital to see him. They asked the police agent, "Tell us, what benefit can you get from persecuting Falun Gong practitioners?" Y answered, "Absolutely none." All the other patients in the same room looked at them curiously. The two practitioners then explained to them, "Police Agent Y is one of those who persecutes Falun Gong and we are Falun Gong practitioners." Y said, "They are very capable of touching people's hearts. Everyone be careful." The patients said, "We think what they just said really makes sense." Y said, "I know that Falun Gong is good, too. I never cursed Falun Gong or beat practitioners in the past. I was just doing my job as assigned by those above me." The practitioners said to Y, "After you've recovered, please do not persecute Falun Gong any more." Y said, "I am already on the list of criminal persecutors." The practitioners said, "We think you still have hope of being saved. Just keep saying 'Falun Dafa is good'!" Y answered, "I understand." Before they left, Y said, "Thank you both."

One friend just came back from a business trip to China. He mentioned some of the conversations that he heard among Chinese police agents while he was there.

Ms. Tan Zaiying, 39, and Ms. Guo Aiping, 27, were practitioners of Chicheng county, Hebei province. On 7/20/1999, to appeal to stop the persecution against Falun Dafa, these two practitioners made the long bus trip to Beijing. Along the way, the bus was stopped at a checkpoint and police ordered them off the bus. In order to continue the trip to Beijing and avoid detention and abuse at the hands of the police, they were forced to climb a mountain. Unfamiliar with the mountain routes, some time after 9 PM they accidentally fell off a cliff and died.

Ms. Xie Xiugai, approximately 40 years old is a Dafa practitioner in Anping, Hebei province. Because she broadcast a program containing the true facts of the persecution against Falun Gong by overriding the CCTV programing, she was illegally arrested and detained in the Baoding Mancheng detention center. Currently she is in poor health although there are no details. The detention center does not allow her family to visit.

Recently, Wuhan City Hubei province's authorities illegally tried Dafa practitioner Mr. He Jian on a trumped up criminal charge of, "destroying a TV broadcast." Mr. He denied all of the police accusations.

At midnight on 9/15/2003, while walking, practitioner Ms. Zhu Xiying of Baige town, Macheng City, Hubei province was suddenly attacked by the local scoundrels organized by policeman Mr. Peng Honghui. They brutally beat her for 20 some minutes until she fell unconscious. Then they illegally sent Ms. Zhu to a detention center to persecute her further.

Early in May 2003, local public security bureau, Ningjiang 2^nd branch, in Songyuan city, Jilin province and the petroleum station police went to the China Petroleum Qianguo plant's catalysis office and forcefully took away Dafa practitioners Mr. Jiang Xinming (husband) and Ms. Yi Haipo (wife). This couple is currently being detained at Songyuan Detention Center.

It was said that Hunan province's Yueyang practitioners Mr. Li Runtian and Mr. Hu Heping had been illegally sentenced to forced labor. They are scheduled to be transfered to the Lingxiang Labor Camp after 10/1/2003.

Ms. Li Guiru was an official at Beijing Haiding district's Beijing Liquid Fuels Company as well as a Dafa practitioner. She has been missing for 3 months and it is thought that she has been seized illegally by police in order to persecute her.

Practitioner Ms. Liu Nanhua is a nurse at a Hubei province's Macheng city hospital. On 9/9/2003, in order to help patients, sharing her own experience Ms. Liu told them of the beneficial health effects of Falun Gong, the persecution against Falun Dafa, and the government's lies. After receiving a report by one of Mr. Zhou's family members, the police came to unduly arrest Ms. Liu and search her house. The police lied and told Ms. Liu that they would take her to a work unit. But actually they took Ms. Liu to the Second Detention Center. There she kept clarifying the truth to the police until they ran out of arguments. the authorities extorted her by claiming that if Ms. Liu would pay some fine, they would release her. After refusing the police quietly turned to her family to blackmail them for 4,000 Yuan.

Practitioner Ms. Xie Qiongying of Macheng City, Hubei province was illegally taken away from home on 9/5/2003. The police also ransacked her home. Detained at Macheng First Detention Center, Ms. Xie went on hunger strikes to protest her illegal detention.

The Brainwashing Base for Suchuan province Chongqing City, Shapingba Jingkou town is on Xianfeng Street on the second floor of Chongqing Geophysical Instruments' villa meeting center. The whole second floor is enclosed by an steel fence with a guarded big metal gate. The doors for all the rooms on the second floor are tightly closed so outsiders cannot hear what is going on within. Each room has three beds with the center one for the detained practitioner. The other two are for the guards. The door is always closed except for mealtime. There is a small window at the top of the door for hall patrol. Work personnel here are transferred from public security, DA's office, and courts. Everyday at around 4 PM one guard from each room goes to a daily group meeting so as to report the "sandwiching" status and to secretly discuss how to break practitioners will power.

In mid May 2003, police illegally broke into practitioner Ms. Yin Xingfin's house in Yuebei District, Chongqing City. They beat Ms. Yin and her daughter Ms. Zhou Hong (also a Dafa practitioner). Ms. Yin is now being detained illegally at Yuebei Detention Center while the whereabouts of Ms. Zhou is unknown.

A few days later, the police came to her house to brutally beat up Ms. Yin's husband and son Mr. Zhou Tao (both are practitioners). Mr. Zhou Tao suffered head injuries requiring some 20 stitches. The husband and the son both resisted the police persecution by shouting, "Falun Dafa is good. Falun Dafa is righteous!" Now Mr. Zhou Tao and his father are missing and their 80-plus year-old grandmother was left alone without anyone to care for her.

Cai Meilan, about 39 years old, is from Jiangjialin Village of Wuxue City. On September 14, 2003, she put up truth-clarifying materials at the Hubei Guangji Medicine Plant. Security guards from the plant reported her. Cai Meilan and two other practitioners were unlawfully arrested. Cai Meilan went on hunger and water strike since the day she was arrested, protesting against the illegal detention. In the Cuijiaju Detention Center in Wuxue City, police guards force-fed her every two days. Fifteen days have passed, and her life is in great danger.

Liao Yuanhua and other practitioners jailed in Fanjiatai Prison of Shayang Town have been on hunger and water strike since late September. Some of the practitioners' lives are in great danger.

On the evening of September 25, 2003, Sichuan practitioners successfully set up eight speakers inside a city and in the nearby suburban area to clarify the truth. This greatly shocked the evil.

On October 1, 2003, the grand opening of a business in a county in Sichuan Province invited dozens of media and community representatives. On September 30 and October 1, over a hundred Falun Dafa banners appeared in the towns of that county. At a particularly scenic spot in the city, a huge banner with the words, "Jiang Zemin Is Being Sued in International Courts for Persecuting Falun Gong!" was put up.

On July 7, 2003, practitioner Chen Weiyi was stopped and reprimanded for helping others make their beds. Chen Weiyi asked the director what was wrong with that. The director took him to his office. Then Chen Weiyi was kept in another room alone, under strict supervision. His hands were cuffed to a metal bed without any quilt or bed sheet, and a security helmet was forced on to his head. Chen Weiyi went on a hunger strike to protest against the persecution. He has been force-fed since the second day of his strike.

Director Liu Zhongke threatened Chen Weiyi with an extension of his jail term. The head of Chen Weiyi's class also tried to coerce him to acknowledge that he was wrong. Chen didn't yield. Eighteen days later, Chen Weiyi was told that he had been transferred to another class, and his handcuffs would be unlocked if he stopped the hunger strike. Hearing this, Chen started to eat. However, only one of his handcuffs was opened, and he was forced to sit on a stool for long periods of time. Fifteen days later, the director asked him to write a statement of guarantee not to break the rules and regulations of the camp. Chen insisted that he was not wrong and refused to write the statement. Later, he was released from strict supervision and transferred to another class.

Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Zhang Yu'e and Ms. Zhang Fenglan are sisters. One is from Zhangjie Village of Datun Township, Dongming County. The other is from Xiangfuzai of Cao County. By the end of May, police from the Politics & Security Section of the Heze Public Security Bureau, Dongming Public Security Bureau, and Datun Police Substation unlawfully searched their homes, arrested the two sisters, and detained them in the Dongming Detention Center. The police rarely allow their family members to visit them. Their parents are in their 70s, and they have little kids at home as well. Zhan Yu'e has a family business dealing with lumber. Over 10,000 Yuan cash in her closet was taken out and thrown on the floor on the day of illegal search [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China]. After the police left, her family members found that 5,000 Yuan was missing. The two sisters' family members paid tens of thousands of Yuan in order to have them released. However, the police still didn't release them. The police even filed a lawsuit against them for no reason. It has been reported that they will be put on trial at the end of October or early November.

Zeng Qinghong, a member of the Chinese Central Political Bureau, is a key figure in the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners. On October 21, Zeng Qinghong came to the Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation in Anshan City of Liaoning Province. On the way, he came across Falun Dafa banners and became infuriated. In the evening, people from public security offices, procurate offices and the people's courts gathered at the Qianshan Procuratorial Training School and schemed to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners.

Policemen from Section No.1 of the Public Security Bureau often follow and monitor Falun Dafa practitioners and unlawfully search practitioners' homes. They usually arrest practitioners first for no reason and then try to find so-called "evidence." They have unlawfully detained and sentenced several hundred practitioners to force labor or prison.

Li Zhongcheng, a policeman from the Sidaogou Police Substation (He worked at the Qianwei Police Substation and has experienced retribution for his wrongdoing before)

Ms. Zhengjing, a practitioner from Renli Township of Suining City, and Liu Hepei, a practitioner from Yongji District of Suining City, were unlawfully arrested in early October. Their homes were unlawfully searched. Currently they are being detained at the Linquanshi Detention Center.

Deng Qiugui, a practitioner from Suining City, was unlawfully arrested after a Dafa truth-clarifying material site was sabotaged. The landlord reported Deng Qiugui's identity to police and Deng's home was ransacked. Currently, Deng Qiugui is being detained at the Linquanshi Detention Center. Because of the torture, he has had a recurrence of old illnesses. He is suffering greatly and feeling extremely weak.

Ms. Zhang Zhenhua, a practitioner from Dazhou City of Sichuan Province, was unlawfully arrested at the same Dafa truth-clarifying material site and is being detained at the Linquanshi Detention Center. Subjected to extremely poor conditions, she is suffering from scabies. Sleeping on the cold and wet concrete floor, she is enduring a great deal of suffering.

Jiang Chunhao, a police guard, used torture instruments on practitioners, cuffed them to one place for long periods of time, force-fed them, and beat them up at will. Once, when prisoners and practitioners were let outside, he beat up practitioners in front of over thirty prisoners. He struck them in the mouth, punched them in the chest, and then beat them with his shoes. When he eventually became tired, he instructed prisoners to beat the practitioners. When a newly arrested practitioner was detained, He Qinghua, a policewoman, instructed the cell head, "Don't give her toilet paper. Don't give her anything. Let her be miserable." Once she stripped off a 20-year-old practitioner's trousers and beat her buttocks violently with a wooden board.

We thank practitioners outside China for making truth-clarifying phone calls to China because it indeed shocks the evil. A supervisor at our working unit who actively cooperates with the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] in persecuting Falun Dafa has been restrained after getting a call from overseas.

A six-department committee of Changchun City is holding a brainwashing class near Jingyuetan to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners.

It is confirmed that Ms. Huang, a practitioner in her 30s, from the Anhui General Fiber Plant of Hefei City (formerly known as the Nuclear Industry Parts 821 Plant), was unlawfully arrested by the "610 Office" a few days ago. Her husband Luo Jing had been reported and detained because a large amount of truth-clarifying materials were found at his home during an illegal search. He was detained in forced labor camp for over a year.

Xu Xianglin, director of the Security Section of the plant, has become very aggravated since she was added to the list of criminals for her crimes of aiding the evil in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. She reported to the "610 Office" that Ms. Huang is still practicing Falun Gong.

Currently we don't know where Ms. Huang is detained. Her husband and 6-year-old child are left alone at home. Her home number is 86-551-3518251.

The "610 Office" in Zhuolu County persecutes Falun Dafa practitioners using various means under the leadership of Director Zhao Xuan and Assistant Director Li Zhiming. Li Zhiming, in particular, employs many vicious means in trying to force practitioners to write so-called "statements of guarantee" to stop practicing Falun Dafa. At the Songhua Brainwashing Class, Li Zhiming swore at and beat up practitioners. Among other forms of cruelty, he has shocked elderly female practitioners with electric prods and punished pregnant women by making them kneel down on the floor. Zhong Weidong, Party Secretary of the County Council, thinks highly of him for his crimes, and awarded him a Citation for Third Degree Merit. Li Zhiming's persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners continues today.

Inside the Shizishan Forced Labor Camp, each Falun Dafa practitioner, since the day he or she arrives, is surrounded by two or three former practitioners who "enlightened" along an evil path as a result of brainwashing. Practitioners have no freedom at all. They cannot go to the bathroom when they need to. They are flooded with lies and pressured to write the so-called "Three Statements" [ Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners]. Whoever refuses to write the statements is forced to write with five or six people forcefully grabbing his hands. If he still doesn't write, drug addicts are instructed to beat him or he is shocked with electric prods. If all these fail, the practitioner is forced to do hard labor beyond his physical endurance. Currently, the forced labor camp has been changed to an all male camp. Female practitioners have been transferred to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp while a new female labor camp is constructed using public funds.

Ms. Wang Ping, from Huangshi City, exchanged a word with a fellow practitioner during detention on February 27, 2003. Zhang Li saw that and instructed the drug-addicts to beat her up. Eventually, even the drug-addicts couldn't bear to beat her. Then Zhang Li did it herself. She shocked Wang Ping's breasts with an electric prod. After being shocked, Wang Ping has had trouble using the bathroom.

Ms. Cheng Guiping, from Huangshi City, shed tears when a fellow practitioner was released on February 28, 2003. Zhang Li saw it and beat her up. In May, Cheng was transferred to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp, where she has been hospitalized. She has suffered from mental problems as a result of the torture.

Ms. He Ping, from Jiayu Township, tried to stop Zhang Li when Zhang was beating up Wang Ping on February 27, 2003. Zhang Li subsequently beat her up as well. Several wooden sticks were broken during the beating. Zhang Li also kicked her repeatedly.

Qiu Jianguo is the Party Secretary of Chicheng County Council. Since July 20, 1999, he has regarded persecuting Falun Gong as a good chance to get promoted. First, he put practitioners under house arrest, and then unlawfully arrested practitioners and extorted money from them. After that, he searched practitioners' homes and sent practitioners to forced labor or prison. Over 1,400 practitioners were persecuted by him. Among which, 50 were unlawfully detained in forced labor, three practitioners were sentenced to prison, 20 practitioners' homes were unlawfully searched, over 50,000 Yuan was extorted, and over 20 practitioners became destitute and homeless. Brainwashing sessions are being held continuously. A big team of around 100 security guards was established by the "610 Office," the Public Security Bureau, the Judicial Bureau and the Inspection Bureau, to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners.

Recently, some street offices, neighborhood committees, police substations and former "610 Offices" once again asked Falun Dafa practitioners to denounce Falun Dafa and to promise that they would not practice, go to appeal in Beijing, or distribute flyers. Otherwise, practitioners are threatened with a salary deduction, brainwashing in the Xinjing Brainwashing Class, forced labor reeducation, and so on. Practitioners are either threatened or "given talks" by several people to write statements against Dafa. The authorities are going through a systematic process to try to undermine the practitioners' beliefs.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."

Editors' Note: Each time we publish news of this nature, we do so with heavy hearts. These people started off as public servants, but under the intense pressure applied by the Jiang regime, they were pushed into persecuting Dafa disciples. In the process of destroying the lives of kind, law-abiding citizens, they have sealed their own fates and inevitably faced karmic retribution as punishment. If it weren't for Jiang's wicked orders, perhaps their fates would have been different.

Just before the 16^th Party Congress in 2002, the Hebei Second Machine Factory security office detained the majority of Falun Dafa practitioners and brought them to brainwashing classes by order of higher authorities. The factory security officer, Wei Zengfang, in collusion with a deputy director, arrested every practitioner he could find. Dafa practitioners had already clarified the truth about Falun Dafa and revealed the facts about the hideous persecution to Wei, but he said, "I know the higher authorities do this in violation of the law, but we have no choice but to do it for them." Although he said it this way, he still arrested Dafa disciples. A few days ago, Wei died in a car accident. Upon hearing this news, I felt very sorry in my heart because Wei also had a knowing side, but he kept persecuting Dafa and Dafa disciples to protect his fame and self-interest, and eventually he harmed himself.

Since July 22, 1999 the director of the Wuxue Public Security Bureau in Hubei Province illegally fined, searched, and incarcerated Falun Dafa practitioners, causing six families to be broken up. The fines he extorted ranged from a few thousand Yuan* up to ten thousand Yuan. During the 2002 Spring Festival, a Dafa practitioner went to his home to clarify the truth to him, but he called the police and had this practitioner put in jail for a year. Now, this security bureau director has himself been put in jail for embezzlement and corruption.

Deputy Director Yu Sandun of Shenli Street Police Station, Huangzhou Sub-bureau, Huanggang City Public Security Bureau in Hubei Province, was stationed in Beijing on a long-term basis to arrest those Falun Dafa practitioners from his area who went there to appeal. Yu committed bad deeds to assist the vicious gang of political scoundrels in persecuting Falun Dafa. He died of liver cancer in May 2003.
