WASHINGTON DC, May 17, 2002 (Falun Dafa Information Center) -- Ding Guangen, Propaganda Minister of China, Politburo Member, and Deputy Chief of the "6-10" Office, was served with a law suit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for his role in overseeing and executing severe human rights abuses against Falun Gong practitioners in China and overseas.
"As the Propaganda Minister of China, Ding is directly responsible for the deadly propaganda, fabrication and lies to grossly distort Falun Gong's teachings and slander its founder and students with the purpose of bending public opinion to support the government's persecution of Falun Gong," said Terri Marsh, an attorney assisting with the case. Ms. Marsh continued: "As the Deputy Chief of the "6-10" Office -- an office established by Jiang Zemin specifically to carry out the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners -- Ding has directly aided in the murder, torture and hate of Falun Gong practitioners all across China and propaganda campaigns overseas. His instrumental role in the persecution of people who practice Falun Gong makes this lawsuit significant."
Charges against the defendant include "Torture; Genocide, Right to Life, Right to Liberty and Security of Person and to be free of Arbitrary Detention and Arrest, Freedom of Thought, Conscience, and Religious Belief."
The World Organization Against Torture, an organization that represents victims of grave human rights abuse, filed the civil complaint with the U.S. District Court in Honolulu Hawaii, Wednesday afternoon. The complaint was served the following afternoon in Mr. Ding's Honolulu Hotel room, room 370 of the Royal Hawaiian Sheridan.
Mr. Ding was returning to China following a visit to Canada. According to local sources, Mr. Ding changed his return flight schedule at the last moment to avoid any legal action against him during his stay in the United States.
"This case is extremely important because it reaches one of the few people who are directly responsible for the campaign of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners," commented Mr. Sklar, the Executive Director of WOAT and also the lead attorney for the lawsuit. "It is typically difficult for Alien Tort cases to reach the highest level of government officials. Ding is a member of the Politburo, the small group of people that effectively run the country. Therefore, like Slobodan Milosevic, in this case we have one of the people directly in charge of organizing and carrying out the whole reign of terror that has been unfolding throughout China for the past three years."
The lawsuit filed against Mr. Ding is a class action lawsuit, which, Mr. Sklar indicates, is also very significant. "The fact that this is a class action suit means it aims to protect the interests of a larger class of people in general. Mainly, Falun Gong practitioners throughout China and the world who have been terrorized and victimized by the persecution campaign Ding has implemented."

(Clearwisdom.net) On May 12, 2002, Indonesia Falun Dafa Association was invited to attend the Falun Gong Introduction Convention sponsored by Indonesian Islam Pesantren Assiddiqiyah. The Islamic Presbyter said to everyone that Falun Gong is the righteous Fa. He said that it was mentioned in their scriptures that one had to go to ancient China if he wanted to pursue the profound principle. He said that now they don't have to go to China because the profound principle is precisely Falun Gong right in front of them and it has come to Indonesia. More than 3000 Islamic people started learning Falun Gong right on spot. That was really an exceptionally great occasion.
As the force of Fa-rectification continuously cleans out the evils in cosmos, sentient beings become more and more awakened and they become better and better in recognizing the Fa. The Fa-rectification in Indonesia is also flourishing. At the beginning of this March, Indonesian Dafa practitioners held a Falun Dafa cultivation experience sharing conference. Over 700 practitioners from 12 countries attended the conference. Although the authorities confined us to certain activities due to the severe interference from the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, Indonesian practitioners did not stop making great efforts. We follow Teacher's teaching to do well in studying the Fa, sending forth righteous thoughts and clarifying the truth. We widely distribute truth-clarification materials and clarify the truth about Dafa. Some practitioners went to the newsrooms of newspaper offices to clarify the truth and requested them to report the news in a positive and objective way. Some other practitioners went to all levels of the central government offices to deliver truth-clarification materials and Dafa books. In addition, the Indonesia Falun Dafa Association filed lawsuit in South Jakarta District Court to impeach the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia for its illegal actions in defaming Falun Gong. In succession, some practitioners went to off-island to attend an invitation to the Health Symposium sponsored by the Health Department of West Kalimantan Province to do Hongfa. On May 8, when the Health Department of Indonesia West Kalimantan Province celebrated the 54th World Health Day, we received a proclamation from the Health Department to honor Falun Gong for its universal principle of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance, its great contribution to improving both people's Xinxing (mind nature) and physical health, and its wide spread in the world.
On May 12, under Teacher's compassionate arrangement, the Indonesia Falun Dafa Association went to Tangerang Town of Jakarta to attend an invitation to the grand Falun Gong Introduction Convention at Pesantren Assiddiqiyah. Over 3000 Islamic people and presbyters attended the convention. The Islam presbyter of Pesantren Assiddiqiyah gave the opening remarks. Then Falun Gong practitioners hosted the rest of the activities including clarifying the truth about Dafa to newspaper and TV station reporters, distributing Dafa flyers, demonstrating and instructing the 5 sets of Falun Gong exercises, holding the "Journey of Falun Dafa" photo exhibition and so on.
It seemed by accident to get this opportunity to introduce Falun Dafa. After reading "Zhuan Falun", the presbyter of the Pesantren Assiddiqiyah realized that Falun Gong is the righteous Fa, which can benefit cultivators in upgrading their Xingxin, improving their health and let them become better persons. On another occasion, the presbyter, Mohammed, Dr. Escanda, a congressman and practitioners from Indonesia Falun Dafa Association met together. They exchanged with each other their understandings of Falun Gong as well as the truth they knew about Dafa. The presbyter immediately promised to support Falun Gong and spread Dafa to his over 5000 Islamic followers. So he held this Falun Gong Introduction Convention at the Pesantren Assiddiqiyah.
On the morning of May 12, it was cloudy and rainy. It seemed that the evil was interfering with and testing Dafa disciples.

Around 9 am, the convention started. The capacious lawn and the big cloth tent were filled with over 3000 Muslims, old or young, female or male. Some stood outside the tent learning the exercises in the rain. Dressed in yellow, practitioners walking in the rain to teach the exercises and give demonstration. The peaceful and beautiful Dafa music resounded in the campus.
The presbyter expressed in his opening speech: The purpose of inviting the Indonesia Falun Dafa Association is to introduce Falun Dafa to the Indonesian people because they (the Indonesian people) carry so much Karma. Most Indonesians in the middle and lower classes are very poor. How happy would it be and how much medical expenses would be saved if they practiced Falun Gong and had their health and Xinxing improved, quit smoking and abusing drugs? He also said: The scripture mentioned that if we wanted to pursue more profound principles, we had to go to ancient China to find them. Now we don't need to go to China. The profound principle is precisely Falun Gong right in front of us, and it has already come to our Indonesia. The presbyter mentioned several times that he hoped Falun Gong could become the bridge of union for the Chinese and Indonesian nations.
The presbyter's speech gained warm applause.
In succession, practitioners briefly introduced the development of Falun Gong and the health-improvement effects. Some practitioners shared their understandings and cultivation experiences. The Introduction Convention successfully concluded around noon. After attendees left, practitioners cleaned up the meeting place on their own initiative.
Practitioners also used 32 white boards to post over 150 "Journey of Falun Dafa" photos on the side of the square. The real photos showed Indonesian practitioners' spreading Dafa at various places, the worldwide spread of Falun Gong, and the inhuman persecution suffered by fellow practitioners in Mainland China. The photos attracted many spectators, who further learned the truth of Falun Gong.
After the introduction convention, over 30 practitioners went to the Training Institute of the Agriculture Bureau in the city of Bogor to do group practice, study the Fa and send forth righteous thoughts on every hour. The hongfa activities concluded at 4 pm the next day.
The success of this grand Falun Dafa Introduction Convention indicates that more and more Indonesian people will benefit from Dafa. At this historic moment when Dafa's wide spreading reaches its 10th anniversary, Indonesian practitioners warmly congratulate the "World Falun Dafa Day" and extend our highest regards to our great and compassionate Teacher!
Practitioners in Beijing celebrate the 10th anniversary since our great benevolent Teacher began to teach the Fa, and also World Falun Dafa Day! (Clearwisdom.net) At 8 p.m. of May 12, Jilin Province Dafa practitioners successfully broadcast the truth about Falun Gong for more than 40 minutes with a high-volume loudspeaker near a hospital. Approximately 10,000 people heard it, which shocked the evil.
Around 8:00 p.m. on the same day, Changchun City Dafa practitioners also successfully broadcast for 30 minutes with small loudspeakers on a hotel building at Dajing Road in Nanguan District, which was also very effective.
Right now, more and more practitioners around the world are working hard and trying to clarify the truth to people in more depth and more thoroughly. In the difficult environment of the evil permeating China, practitioners are using various methods, both general and specific, to clarify the truth.
On the morning of May 11, Hing Hay Park in Seattle's Chinatown was decorated
with Zhen-Shan-Ren, Falun Dafa balloons and banners. They filled Chinatown with
holiday festivity.
Through the photo exhibition and distributing Dafa information, Chinese people gained a better understanding of Falun Dafa and the Jiang regime's brutal persecution. In the afternoon, about 100 practitioners held the Northwest US Experience Sharing Conference at the Asia Activity Center. The Conference deepened practitioners' understanding of Fa rectification process and increased communication between practitioners in this area.
On May 12, practitioners celebrated World Falun Dafa Day at Seattle's famous tourist attraction, the Space Needle. Practitioners demonstrated the Dafa exercises and held a photo exhibition at the Open Theatre to clarify the truth to the constant flow of people.
The two days' of Hongfa and truth clarification activities brought practitioners in this area closer together to do three things better: study the Fa well, clarify the truth thoroughly and send forth righteous thoughts.
(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Yu Qiushi was a 64-year-old woman. In late December 2001 she was illegally arrested when distributing truth clarification flyers. Because she refused to cooperate with the evil, vicious police sent her to a hospital after she held a hunger strike for 11 days. She was injected her with an unknown drug that caused constant distension of the abdomen. Her family was not allowed to take her home until she was on the verge of death. She died at home 70 days later, on March 16, 2002.
Practitioner Ms.Yu Qiushi's former name wasYu Shufen. On December 21, 2001 police arrested and sent her to the local detention center for distributing truth clarification flyers in Zhenlai County. No matter how the police threatened or humiliated her, Yu Qiushi said nothing about the source of the flyers. Later, Ms. Yu began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. On the eighth day of the hunger strike, the director of the detention center ordered a doctor from the county hospital to force-feed Yu Qiushi. She was fed raw cornmeal mixed with salt water. A female guard said in a malicious manner, "Add more salt water, add more salt." During the force-feeding, before the tube was pulled out from one nostril, the other nostril bled. In spite of this, Ms. Yu was still determined, which shocked the evil, and those thugs hastily pulled the tube out and walked away. In the afternoon, Ms. Yu was constantly vomiting and threw up all the dirty food she was fed with. That same night, Yu had blood in her stool.
January 1, 2002 marked the 11th day of her hunger strike. With no other choice, the vicious director of the detention center sent Ms. Yu to the county hospital. In the hospital, Ms. Yu received forced injection(s) and was often humiliated and ridiculed by the police. However, Ms. Yu firmly believed in Dafa from the beginning to the end. She told the patients, visitors, doctors and nurses about Dafa and her personal experiences, and conducted herself as a Dafa disciple.
Around 4 p.m. on January 4, Ms. Yu left the hospital on "bail and await trial" status. Afterwards, the hospital authorities demanded 2,200 Yuan "medical fee." Though Ms. Yu didn't agree to pay, her family went and paid 1,700 Yuan.
On January 6, Yu Qiushi's stomach began to swell, which was followed by pain. Several days later her legs and feet also began to swell. During this time the police constantly went to her home and harassed her. Around late January, officials at the Zhenlai County Politics and Security Committee came to Ms. Yu's home and lied to her that her superior wanted to talk to her. They coaxed Ms. Yu into going into their car despite the tremendous pain she was enduring. The thugs' intention was to send Ms. Yu into the Changchun Labor Camp. Seeing that Yu's stomach was extremely swollen they had to send her back.
The following days after Ms. Yu returned home, police often went to her home and harassed her. She resolutely refused to open the door. Afterwards, Ms. Yu went to her family and friends' homes to promote the Fa, even though her body was swollen and she was in excruciating pain. She kept studying the Fa, doing the exercises, sending forth righteous thoughts and saving people.
On March 16, 2002, Dafa practitioner Ms. Yu Qiushi passed away in her sleep.
(Clearwisdom.net) Recently, the Changchun public security bureau police has become increasingly violent. Since March 5th, the police in Changchun have been on a rampage, arresting and torturing Dafa practitioners. In the middle of the night they dragged detained practitioners out of their cells and mercilessly tortured them. Some police have even attempted to rape female Dafa practitioners. At this point some practitioners are missing.
In one situation they forcibly dragged a practitioner (a professor) out of a hospital while he was undergoing emergency treatment and took him to a detention center. In another situation two officers forced an old lady who was having a heart attack into a police van. They took her to the detention center because she had once practiced Falun Gong. Many non-practitioners were sent to labor camps as well because police found Falun Gong truth-clarifying flyers in their homes.
The practitioners that were arrested underwent all forms of cruel torture. The police often dragged the practitioners outside and beat them severely. They used a piece of black cloth to cover their eyes when they took them outside so that the practitioners would not be able to identify the place where they were being tortured. The police would tie up some of the practitioners, grab them by their head and feet and throw them against a tree. While torturing the practitioners they would say: "We will bury you here if we end up beating you to death. Nobody would know!"
Some police used electric batons to shock female Dafa practitioners' breasts, forcefully shocking the sensitive nipple area. The vicious police even shocked them in the vagina. Some of these female practitioners who were menstruating were shocked to the extent that they bled profusely. Their pants were soaked in blood. Even more vile were the police who attempted to rape female Dafa practitioners. While drunk, one of the police grabbed a female practitioner's arm and attempted to rape her, but he was eventually stopped. A Dafa practitioner was dragged to a nearby mountain in the middle of the night and severely beaten. The police said, "We will throw you into the mountain stream!" Some of these practitioners who were dragged out by the police in the middle of the night have not been seen since.
While drunk, one of the police from Changchun public security bureau said, "There are all sorts of noises including screams of Falun Gong practitioners [when beaten] coming from the Jingyuetan forest in the middle of the night. Falun Gong practitioners have not renounced Falun Gong even under such severe torture, how incredible!" He also said, " The basement is the perfect place to torture Falun Gong practitioners, it's no big deal if we beat them to death!"
We call on International Human Rights groups to immediately take action to stop such abuses and to help uphold Falun Gong practitioners' basic right to survive. We hope all Falun Dafa practitioners who read this will send forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil forces behind this persecution.

1. [Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province] Over 100 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested Since Mid-April
The "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] in conspiracy with the Police Department and the National Security Forces have carried out excessive arrests of Falun Dafa practitioners since mid-April. As long as someone still practices Falun Gong, he or she will be arrested, and there is no due legal process whatsoever. During the May 1 holiday season, Falun Dafa practitioners who have been arrested from their homes without warrant include Wang Liyun (female), Jiang Shuling (female), Sun Shuzhi (female, 63 years old), Yan Chengyou, Gao Zhaofa, Qin Yuping (female, 63 years old), Qu Changhua (58 years old), Zhang Shuyun (female), senior ladies with last names of Wang, Zhang, and Song, Wang Fenglan (female), Li Guilan (female), and many others. Their homes were also illegally searched. So far, over one hundred people have been taken into custody.
Zhao Juan (female) is a teacher at the No. 1 Middle School of Shuangyashan City. She was abducted while teaching a class in late April. To protest the illegal custody, Zhao Juan went on a hunger strike for five days. She started to lose consciousness, and is being rescued in an oxygen cell in the hospital. It is hard to tell if she will survive.
2. [Henan Province] Xinxiang Female Prison Drives a Female University Student Insane
As reported by reliable sources, among the Falun Gong practitioners illegally held in Xinxiang Female Prison in Henan Province, a female university student has been driven insane due to the persecution. Her name is not known. In order to cover up the crimes committed against her, the police have locked her up in isolation.
3. [Xuchang City, Henan Province] Falun Gong Practitioner from Northeast China Is Brutally Tortured in No. 3 Forced Labor Camp of Henan Province
Last February, a Falun Gong practitioner from northeast China was unjustly held in the No. 3 Forced Labor Camp in Henan Province. He has not told the police his name. He went on a hunger strike for several days. The police ordered cellmates to force-feed him as a torture. Every day he was handcuffed to the bed. Even when going to the restroom, his wrist is handcuffed to another cellmate to prevent him from escaping.
4. [Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province] Five Falun Dafa Practitioners Abducted in Lalin Town
Guan Yinghua (female) was deceived by the police into leaving her home in mid-April, and was then arrested.
Guan Yanping (female), Chen Chunlan (female), Ma Renlin, and Zong Yuejin were taken away separately by the following police officers: Sun, chief of the local police department, Hao, commissar of the police department, Fu Qiang and seven or eight other police officers.
5. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Villains from the "610 Office" in Aoping Town Brutalize 75-Year-Old Lady
It is not uncommon that people from the "610 Office" at Aoping Town of Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province, arrest and beat Falun Dafa practitioners at will. Some practitioners have been injured and some have even become physically impaired due to beatings received. There have been cases where family members who were non-practitioners were beaten to such an extent that they sustained injuries all over their bodies.
On the afternoon of April 15, 2002, without presenting any evidence or acquiring any legal paperwork, a group of people from the "610 Office" rushed into the home of a Falun Dafa practitioner in Yinfeng Town, Shifang City. At the time, only the 75-year-old elderly mother of the practitioner was at home. This group of vicious people didn't find the practitioner, nor did they heed the persuasion of the elderly lady. In the end, they violently beat the elderly lady, and illegally took away the book Zhuan Falun and the portrait of the Falun Gong founder.
Those who participated in this action include: Chen Liangzhong, Li Hua, Li Guoqi, and Bai Jiru.
6. [Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province] Where's the Human Nature -- Police Abduct Everyone in Qin's Family and Leave a 3-Year-Old Unattended
There are five people who practice cultivation at the home of Falun Dafa practitioner Qin Yuping (female, 63 years old) in Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. Throughout the three years of persecution, her two sons, one daughter-in-law and she herself had been abducted on separate occasions. One of her sons was sent to Suhua Forced Labor Camp at the end of last March, as he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. Her other son, Pan Xingfu, was intercepted by the police while in the process of relocating. The police found Falun Dafa books and a personal computer in the moving truck. He has been illegally held in custody for over eight months. After two trials, in which neither of them had any evidence presented against him, Pan Xingfu was sentenced to five years in prison in March 2002. His wife Zhang Li was subsequently abducted from the home on April 15, 2002. Separated from both parents who have been illegally taken away, the 3-year-old son has to be taken care of by his grandma, Qin Yuping. During the May 1 holiday season, the police broke in without any reason and forcibly took away elderly Qin. The 3-year-old has thus become completely unattended.
7. [Deyang City, Sichuan Province] The "610 Office" Illegally Sends a Falun Dafa Practitioner to Forced Labor Camp Regardless of Her Husband Who is Seriously Ill And Needs Care
In early April, the Director of the "610 Office" and Policemen Wang Wenwu and Deng Ying illegally searched Gong Xingchan's home and abducted her for clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa to others. Gong Xingchan is a Dafa disciple from Deyang City, Sichuan Province. At the time, her husband was recuperating from an operation for paranasal sinus cancer and care was required for him. However, the policemen insisted on sentencing Gong to two years of forced labor "reeducation" in the Nanmusi Female Forced Labor Camp in Zizhong City.
8. [Muchuan County, Sichuan Province] Falun Dafa Disciple Liang Junhua Is Illegally Sentenced to Jail
According to Sichuan Legality Journal on April 17th, the local police captured Liang Junhua, a Falun Dafa disciple from Dabei Village, Huangdan Town, Muchuan County on December 28, 2001 for clarifying the truth. And on March 18, 2002, he (she) was sentenced to jail for over two years.
Recently, several Dafa disciples in Luojiang County of Deyang City have been sentenced to jail as well.
9. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Falun Dafa Disciple Yu Jianni Is Forcibly Detained in the Shizishan Forced Labor Camp
Both Yu Jianni and her sister are Falun Dafa disciples in Wuhan City. On April 26 this year, Huang Yahui and two people from the Security Section of the Cold Storage Transportation Company captured Yu Jianni and sent her to the Longchi Police Substation. When her sister and brother-in-law arrived at the police substation after hearing the news, Yu Jianni had been sent to the Shizishan Forced Labor Camp. When her sister asked for an explanation of her arrest, Yang Feng, the Director of the Longchi Police Substation said, "I didn't want to do it, either. I have to follow the order from the higher authority."
10. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Over 20 Falun Dafa Disciples Are Captured Recently
Since late April, police from Zhaoyuan County of Daqing City have launched a new round of searching for Falun Dafa disciples. Recently, the county authorities have illegally captured more than 20 Falun Dafa disciples, including Ma Yuying, etc.

Police in Daqing area brutally beat Dafa disciple Zhang Xinye. He cannot open his eyes and he is in critical condition. In Daqing area, Falun Dafa disciples are monitored whenever they leave home. Their basic rights are denied.
12. [Maoming City, Guangdong Province] Police And The Politics & Law Committee Find a "Good Way" to Collect Money
In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief and cultivation practice, the Politics & Law Committee in Maoming City detain Dafa disciples for extended terms in the Politics & Law School for brainwashing. They collect 25 Yuan a day from each practitioner. When some police went to practitioners' home to collect the money, they demanded more than 30 Yuan a day. They keep the extra money for themselves. The living standard in Maoming area is very low due to people's low income. When some practitioners don't have enough money to pay the forced brainwashing class, the police would go to their home and forcibly take away some valuables such as electronic equipments, etc. Some policemen even extort money from the practitioners' family by threatening "We'll send him (her) to forced labor camp if you don't have money." Some practitioners were still forcibly sent to forced labor camp after their family members paid several thousand Yuan.
13. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] The National Security Bureau Illegally Captures Falun Dafa Disciple Sun Yanjun
Falun Dafa disciple Sun Yanjun graduated from a medical university last year. He lost his job during the persecution. He made deliveries for Dafa material not long ago. After 6:00 p.m. on April 25th, 2002, over 20 policemen from the National Security Bureau captured him at his home. The moment the police broke into his room, Sun Yanjun and his mother began to clarify the truth of Falun Dafa to them and tell them that "good will be awarded with good, and evil with evil." The policemen knew they were doing wrong deeds and were afraid to look at Sun and his mother's eyes.
On April 27th, when Sun's mother went to see her son at the National Security Bureau in Harbin City, she wasn't allowed to meet him.
14. [Fuyu County, Heilongjiang Province] The Crimes in Fuyu County
Fuyu County frenziedly persecutes Falun Dafa. Anyone "reporting" a Falun Dafa practitioner is awarded 1000 Yuan. Police arbitrarily search practitioners' homes and capture them. As long as Falun Dafa disciples say yes when asked about whether they are still practicing Falun Dafa, they will be detained and sent for brainwashing and be illegally sentenced to forced labor camp or jail.
As practitioners in China face tremendous pressure to give up their beliefs under the Chinese regime's brutal persecution, there are those who have given in and signed documents renouncing Falun Dafa. However, many of these people deeply regret doing so after they are released from detention and labor camps. "Solemn declarations" are the public statements made by such practitioners, often at great risk to their personal safety, to declare to the world that the documents they signed under duress are null and void and that they will continue to practice Falun Dafa.

Zhao Benyong, male, 39; Teacher of Sichuan Province Aerospace Industry Polytechnic College (in Longquan District of Chengdu City). Zhao Benyong obtained Dafa in 1994 in Guangzhou City. He is a firm cultivator and does not give in to the evil's demands. After July 20, 1999, the security department of the college used all kinds of means to persecute Zhao Benyong. In June 2001, he was demoted from his teaching position to guarding the gate, where he worked overtime without any increase in salary. His house was also confiscated. In October 2001, the police arrested Lei Yan in her home and detained her in Yushan Police Substation. The police forced her to write the "guarantee statement" so that she would give up practicing Falun Dafa. Under high pressure, Lei Yan was forced to leave home.

Apple Daily reported that more than 200 Falun Dafa practitioners in Hong Kong held a parade on May 13 to celebrate the 10- year anniversary of the public introduction of Falun Gong. Police who were assigned to keep order laughed and talked harmoniously with practitioners, which gave the parade a peaceful atmosphere.
French Subway Newspaper: the president of the International Olympics Committee, Jacques Rogge, told the BBC that he warned the Chinese government that if there were no applied efforts on improving the human rights condition in China, he would consider taking back the rights to host the 2008 Olympics games that were given to Beijing.
Hualong Net May 12 reported, on 11 a.m., May 11, a bright circle of light suddenly appeared in the sunny sky of Chongqing City, and it lasted for about half an hour. Experts call this astronomical phenomenon rare because it doesn't happen in decades, a century, or even a millennium. This phenomenon has showed up continuously in Beijing and many other provinces and cities in China within the first few weeks of the month.

I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on April 25, and July 20, 1999. Later I was sent to the County Detention Center. On April 16, 2002, the police arrested me. They violently shocked me with electric batons, slapped me in the face, whipped me with a leather belt and forced me to squat down with my hands pulled up and held up to the highest point position and with my hips pointing up (the body in this position looks like an airplane). They cuffed my hands behind my back on a bed and prohibited me from sleeping for the entire night. I continuously sent forth righteous thoughts while imprisoned. Later, I was released unconditionally.
Practitioners Wang Shufa and Zhang Kuiying, from Xian County, Hebei Province have been imprisoned in a detention center for nearly two months. Since 1999, in Botou City, Hebei Province, nearly one hundred Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested and more than twenty have been illegally sent to labor camps. On May 2nd, one male practitioner was tortured to death at Nanhu Labor Camp in Xuancheng City, Anhui Province. This practitioner was 48 years old. A while ago, a practitioner asked me to help her son with his taxi-driving business. So I took a driving shift which started at 6 PM daily.
On this particular night at around 10 PM, I saw two men waving at me, so I pulled over and stopped where they stood. The elder of the two men was under 30, (hereafter referred to as A), and he had round, shrewd-looking eyes with a hidden glint of viciousness. The younger one was in his early 20's (hereafter referred to as B), and he stood behind A, looking around furtively. So A sat in the back seat and B sat next to me in the front.
After a while, A asked me: "Most taxi drivers drive in a team of two at night, how come you're driving alone? Aren't you afraid of gangsters?" At that time I wanted to take the opportunity to clarify the truth to them from a third-party point of view. I replied: "Everything has its karmic relationship. Furthermore, good and bad will be rewarded accordingly. As long as I don't commit wrongdoing, nothing bad will happen to me!"
A said: "That's not necessarily the case. Take me for example. I don't think I'm bad, why don't good things ever happen to me?" I answered, "Whether one does a good or bad deed, when the time comes, there will definitely will be retribution, namely, good and bad will be rewarded accordingly." A said: "Why is it that the more I listen to you, the more it sounds like what Falun Gong has talked about?" So I asked him in return: "Have you ever learned to practice Falun Gong?" A replied: "I haven't. But a lot of people in our area practiced. I heard that Falun Gong practitioners are all good people." I asked him again: "Do you believe in Falun Gong?" A replied: " I believe in Falun Gong." I said: "Then why don't you practice Falun Gong?" A replied: "Who is going to feed me if I practice that?" I said: "You just do your own cultivation practice in addition to doing whatever you should do. I understand Falun Gong practitioners. They don't smoke, don't drink and don't lose their tempers. And they are even rewarded with blessings!" A suddenly stopped talking completely.
When we passed a small bridge, A pointed toward the east and signaled me to drive for another 500 meters. Sitting next to me, B suddenly pulled out a knife which glistened coldly. He forced me to quickly stop. When I stopped and got out of the car, I asked them: "What do you want to do anyway?" A replied: "It's almost New Years' Eve. My family does not have money to buy food. We have all lost our jobs, and my wife just gave birth to our newborn baby. I really don't have any other choice, so I'm out to find some money to spend." As he was talking to me, he put his hands into his dark-colored, heavy suitcase.
There I was, in the middle of nowhere, deep in the quiet night, and suddenly running into something like that. I was really stunned and didn't now how to react. Then, I heard Teacher's words in my ears: "Why do you encounter these problems? They are all caused by your own karma. We have already eliminated for you many, numerous pieces of it, leaving only that tiny bit which is divided into tribulations at different levels for upgrading your xinxing, tempering your mind, and removing your different attachments. These are all your own tribulations that we use to improve your xinxing, and you will be able to overcome them. As long as you upgrade your xinxing, you can overcome them. Unless you, yourself do not want to do so, you can make it, provided you want to overcome them." (Zhuan Falun) Yes, this is all caused by my own karma. I must conduct myself with a high standard. I must treat them with a kind and benevolent heart. I need to seize all available opportunities to spread Dafa well.... While I was thinking, they held the knife against me and searched my body. Meanwhile, I started to laugh fearlessly and loudly, and my laughter seemed to shake heaven and earth.
A and B were stunned by my laughter. I said: "What you want is nothing but some money? But you have to let me finish talking. Why do you take this path? Who told you to do so?"
A replied: "Jiang has pushed me into doing this. Otherwise, who would have given up a good and comfortable life to look for trouble on a cold night like this?"
I said: "We are all the same victims. You know what? Jiang has spent several billion Yuan per year to wiretap and persecute Falun Gong practitioners. I'm a Falun Gong practitioner." Then I took out two truth clarification flyers from my pocket and handed the flyers to them. A and B took the flyers with both hands and continued listening to me.
I went on and said: "You also just said you believed in Falun Gong. Currently, if Falun Gong practitioners are caught by police departments, they'll be detained, sentenced, put into forced labor camps, beaten to injury or even to death. You have probably heard about this as well. Under such circumstances, they continue to fulfill their task of clarifying the truth to world's people. Do you know the reason why they are doing this? This is indeed to offer salvation to you. Our meeting today is of great karmic relationship. Your path is indeed leading to a dead end. In order to practice Falun Gong, to be a good person and to be an even better person, I went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the truth. I went through being arrested, detained, beaten up, losing my job and having my wages withheld by my work unit. I have put aside the thought of life and death, and have endured hardship that is beyond your imagination. You know what? Had I not been practicing Falun Gong, I might have ended up just like you, perhaps even worse than you. Because I had practiced martial arts ever since I was a kid, and whenever I ran into something like this, I always wanted to make sure that justice was well served."
I then turned to B and said: "That gadget of yours is not going to work very well on me. Put it away quickly!" B immediately put the knife away. I then said: "Come over here." I put Teacher's new articles tape in my car's cassette recorder and turned it on to let them listen to. They listened quietly and very seriously. After about 20 minutes, A held his head with his hands; then with his hands pounding his chest and his feet stamping on the ground, he said regretfully: "What's the matter with me today? Why did I do such a foolish thing anyway?" He kept apologizing to me. I looked at them and said: "We indeed have a karmic relationship. If you truly realize that what you have done is wrong, then recognizing your shortcoming is improving yourself. Correcting that shortcoming of yours is like being a good person." A asked: "How do I practice Falun Gong anyway?" I replied: "You had better read the book Zhuan Falun first. If you can follow Teacher's teaching in the book, you can then start practicing the exercises. The 5 sets of exercise are very simple." A said: "Can you get me a book?" Having made some progress, I told A and B: "Let's go home. OK?" A and B exchanged eye contact and said unanimously: "OK! Let's go home!"
When we were approaching my home, I said: "Come. Come over and have a seat at my home. I'll give you a copy of Zhuan Falun to take home to read." They felt my sincerity, so they came home with me unguardedly. At that time my wife and kids were all asleep. I woke my wife up and told her: "I have this friend, his wife just had a newborn baby, his father is sick, and he has no money. Go check to see if we have any money at home?" So my wife took out the only 300 Yuan RMB we had at home, she also gave them a copy of Zhuan Falun. Taking the book with both hands, A said: " I'll return it to you as soon as possible. I will never forget you guys. You are really good people."
On the third night, A and B came to my home. A said, after he went home he told his father what had happened. His father was so moved that he was speechless, and finally said: "Falun Gong is just like my Dad!". After his wife heard what had happened, she took the book and read through the whole book from cover to cover without a break. She also said she wanted to practice Falun Gong. A then added, one of his brothers was a deputy chief of a city's police department. At the beginning, his brother said that Falun Gong was [Jiang regime's slanderous term omitted]. After A met me, and after he read the Falun Dafa book and expressed his intent to practice Falun Gong, his brother said: "Whenever I said Falun Gong was bad, to tell you the truth, I felt so bad in my mind." A continued to say: "These past few days I haven't done anything, I just wanted to read the book. The first thing I would do after I woke up was read a little bit of Zhuan Falun." Lifting his clothes up, he pointed to something--it was indeed a big pocket with Zhuan Falun inside. He said: "I sewed the pocket myself so that I can carry it with me wherever I go." He then started to laugh joyfully and innocently. His laughter was sincere and contagious, so I started to laugh, too...

Recently I read an article from the Clearwisdom website discussing good chances to clear up the evil elements that control the head of the evils in Germany. According to the article, however, during one of the most crucial nights most of the Dafa disciples fell asleep, and only a few insisted on sending forth righteous thoughts throughout the night. This happened because the practitioners present in Germany at that time had two different understandings in terms of eliminating the evil factors that control the head of the evils. Consequently, a good chance was missed.
In another article written by a practitioner not living in China, the narrator mentioned that once, while sending forth righteous thoughts, he saw the vicious beings hovering over mainland China. He thought those vicious beings didn't belong to his spatial field but belonged instead to the spatial field of practitioners in China. So he didn't eliminate them because he did not want to take over the Chinese practitioners' opportunities to establish mighty virtues. Later on he realized that this thought was not correct, and he decided to eliminate the evils the next time he saw them. Nevertheless, he had had that thought that the mighty virtues belong to the practitioner who is in charge of the spatial field. When we send forth righteous thoughts, we never think of whether certain evil beings belong to you or to me. And we are not eliminating the evils for the purpose of establishing mighty virtues. We are doing our best to eradicate as many evils as possible so that they won't be able to persecute Dafa, Dafa disciples, or the human beings in the world.
From these articles, I feel that many overseas Dafa disciples really don't have a clear and complete understanding of how vicious the evils in China truly are. From their standpoint their goal is to improve themselves and establish mighty virtues. In my opinion, in order to improve ourselves it is better to fulfill our missions in Fa-rectification Establishing mighty virtues is the inevitable result after we fulfill our missions. Our first priority should be what is best for Dafa and how we can save more sentient beings.
We understand that Dafa practitioners outside of China work very hard. It is not easy since you have your daily work to do and have your families to take care of. In addition, there are so many things to do while there are fewer people available, most of whom obtained the Fa relatively late. But unlike the repressive conditions in China, you have the convenience of freedom of the media, freedom of speech and action, etc. If you become mature in understanding the Fa and do better in practical work, you are playing a crucial role for the general upgrading of Dafa disciples all over the world.
I feel that many Dafa disciples who do not live in China are not clear on two points. First, they do not truly comprehend the evils and the persecution in China. Second, they are not doing enough to clarify the truth to people in China. Of course, it is understandable since you are not in the environment and don't have the experience in person. But if you can realize the existence of this problem, be calm, and make efforts, you can do much better in many things.

When you present flowers to wish your mom a Happy Mother's Day, when you as a mother accept with joy greetings and wishes from your children, have you ever thought that at that very moment in China, thousands of caring moms are locked up in detention centers, labor camps, prisons or mental hospitals, simply because they firmly believe in "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance," because they read Zhuan Falun --a book that teaches people to be good and kind; they are abused because they practice a set of beautiful and gentle exercises; and because they refuse to give up their beliefs? These moms, apart from enduring daily physical abuses, are deprived of sleep and are subjected to the mental torment of forced brainwashing. During this cruel persecution, to date, 410 Falun Dafa practitioners are verified to have been tortured to death; among them, over half are women, and this figure is only the tip of the iceberg of the true death toll. There are many more moms who have been forced to leave home to avoid being arrested. In Mainland China, and even in other places outside of China where Jiang's group of gangsters can extend their control, people who practice Falun Dafa are subjected to various forms of harassment and persecution.
All moms who practice Falun Dafa are kind and selfless, and they have left the best to others and to the future. One mom who went on a hunger strike in jail to protest against her illegal detention said to those criminals who were force-feeding her, "I went on a hunger strike not only for myself. My son is five years old and he also practices Falun Dafa. In fact, my whole family has benefited a lot from practicing cultivation. If I don't give [of myself] and if I don't make an effort to tell people Falun Dafa is good and to stop the persecution, then when my son grows up he will suffer persecution as well. I'm a mother, and what I give today is for his future life, and for all the children to be able to live in a peaceful and beautiful environment. For their future, no matter how much I give I have no regret and complaint. Don't you think I love children most?" Upon hearing these words, the criminals were moved to tears.
The meaning of motherly love has been raised and been expanded to a higher and wider realm by these moms who practice Falun Dafa. In their delicate bodies lie a profound spiritual realm: enduring unimaginable suffering with no complaint and with concern for sentient beings and for the future of all beings. Their unbending spirit is the paragon of the soul of humanity, a hope for the future and the pride of mothers.
It is the wish of all people in the world to respect and protect the interest of women and children and to safeguard peace. It is everyone's responsibility to call on people's kindness and to uphold justice. The world needs "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance." Please stretch out your helping hands to support these women. Open your heart and send them your sincere wishes for a Happy Mother's Day!

I was raised in a Northeastern city, and from youth was educated to love the Party, love my country, serve the people, and to be a kind and bright citizen. After college I landed a job at a TV studio, and effectively completed every project. Gradually, I realized that all the upright programs that reflected everyday life were cancelled, and those programs that reported true events were being ordered to be terminated. I became increasingly disheartened.
During the severe floods of 1998, I was assigned to report on the situation at the disaster sites. Previously, I had seen on television many reports of heroic rescuers full of righteousness, singing patriotic songs. When I arrived at the scene, I was infuriated, because the "natural" disasters were actually the result of immoral human actions. During the past ten years funding for flood control had been embezzled by local officials, resulting in sloppy and substandard construction along the Changjiang River. Every time a dam overflowed, many people lost their lives. What was more upsetting was that the items donated to disaster areas were being sold illegally. I witnessed a bottle of spring water selling for the outrageous price of 10 Yuan, when one can buy it for about 1.2 Yuan at a supermarket. Citizens in the disaster areas shed tears and lost blood, and in the end this was the kind of "assistance" they received. At the disaster area, I never got enough sleep at night, as I indignantly recorded all the facts and captured the most accurate video footage. When I arrived back at the studio, eager to see my report broadcast, the editor took my video and did not respond for a long time. When I inquired about it, he always hesitated to answer and afterwards dropped the project.
Disappointed, I lost my enthusiasm for my job.
I just cannot accept what has unfolded lately. The government's persecution of Falun Gong was becoming more and more disturbing and unthinkable. I had worked on some Falun Gong stories before and covered some events, but there was no way to convey the truth -- the government's prejudiced stance had to be abided by, and what was being reported to the people was anything but the truth. I was baffled, but something even more outrageous occurred. Recently, after a few areas broadcasted the truth about Falun Gong, many TV stations received orders and were "mobilized" as if facing a formidable enemy. At our studio, all employees' ancestors had to be traced back and investigated to three generations, and everyone had to complete thick loyalty documents. When arriving and leaving the studio, we all had to show a card to verify our identification.
A month ago I was out of town, and on my way back I noticed policemen question pedestrians. They were forced to say the name of Falun Gong's founder, and then utter a slanderous sentence. Otherwise, they would be arrested. I was furious at the cruelty of their tactic. How could a public government employee coerce citizens to curse at someone, and view "refusing to curse" as a reason for arrest? Back at the studio, something even more unreasonable was waiting for me. In the front lobby a picture of Falun Gong's founder was spread out on the floor. The security guard told me that I must walk across it, or else... I was shocked and speechless. What kind of corrupt mind could possibly think of such a nasty way to force people to engage in such sinful deeds? I didn't want to stomp on anyone's picture, nor did I think stomping on the picture of someone I didn't know was a proper act. In fact, it was an evil deed. The government was forcing people to step on the picture and swear at it, as if they were unwilling to cease until every single trace of the Chinese people's de (virtue) was squandered.
