Statement of Zhantong Lin
Washington, D.C. April 3, 2002Hello. My name is Zhantong Lin,
and I'm from Chicago. In December of 2001, I got a report from the Police
Station that my '94 Dodge Spirit had been mysteriously set on fire near
Chinatown. The fire was so major that the tree next to the car was burned to
ashes. Some of the car's tires were scorched out of existence. My only means of
transportation was burnt to a grey shell.
This happened on December 26 around 6:30 a.m., just half an hour
after I left town for a trip. My car had often been used to transport Falun Gong
materials to different events. Many of these events were held outside of the
Chinese Consulate.
I have seen them videotaping me through the Consulate's windows.
I know that they are fully aware of my Falun Gong participation. When the car
was burned it was packed with Falun Gong materials, which were very visible
through the window. I do not think this violation is a coincidence.
I thought this was the land of freedom....
My car was "mysteriously" burned...
Now I do not feel safe anymore.
