A Hong Kong man arrested for carrying Falun Gong materials into the mainland is expected to go on trial tomorrow. Suen Chung-man [phonetic] was detained in May at the Shenzhen border crossing. A fellow Falun gong member, Sophie Xiao, told Betsy-May Veloo that a lawyer has said the trial is expected to last a day and could end in a five-year prison sentence.

[Xiao] It was said that he was found carrying the VCDs [video disks] that relate to Falun Dafa, when in the morning he [was] crossing the Lo Wu border on 17 May this year.

[Veloo] Did they arrest him immediately?

[Xiao] Yes, they did, and they took him away and detained him till now, then informed his wife, saying they are going to put him into jail. They have been threatening his wife.

[Veloo] In what way threatening?

[Xiao] Saying they are going to put him in jail and you'd better ask your husband to give up on the practicing.

[Veloo] What was he going to do with the VCDs?

[Xiao] That I believe he was going to distribute in the neighborhood.
