1. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] A Practitioner is Murdered in the 3rd
Detention Center of Jilin City
A Dafa practitioner was murdered in the 3rd Detention Center of
Jilin City. An eyewitness said, "When the practitioner was put in the cell,
the inmates ganged up on him and beat him desperately. After that, they put a
quilt over him. When they removed the quilt later, he was already dead. Nobody
knows his name or address."
2. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] A Reporter Asks a Mental Patient to Make a
False Statement
A villager in Yongji County of Jilin City was hospitalized for mental
disease. One day a reporter from an unknown TV station came to interview him.
The reporter asked him to say that he practiced Falun Gong. The villager did not
understand why he was being asked to do this because he had never practiced
Falun Gong. The reporter said, "Come on, say it." He became a little
annoyed, and said, "Never means NEVER. Why should I listen to you?"
Seeing the villager's refusal, the reporter had to leave. He had planned to ask
the villager to pretend to be a Falun Gong practitioner and tape him when he got
sick. Then the report would have been played on TV to defame Falun Gong.
3. [Beijing] Beijing Police Control Computer Networks
Starting from January 20, 2002, the Beijing Public Security Bureau requires
all Internet cafes in Beijing to install monitoring software. Everyone who wants
to get online is asked to register his identity number and working certificate
number along with other information.
4. [Mainland China] Trying to Reform Practitioners Using Soft Measures
Recently some places have begun to use soft measures to reform practitioners.
They stipulate: as long as a practitioner expresses a willingness to give up
practice and not appeal for Falun Gong, the work unit will guarantee to pay his
salary on time, plus an annual bonus at the Spring Festival. He will be
considered first for a job opportunity when the working place arranges jobs for
people who need to work. Some places use their friends to keep harassing
practitioners.
These are soft measures of reformation. They are the same as the harsh
measures of violence and intimidation. Falun Dafa is the universal law. It asks
people to cultivate compassion from their hearts, assimilate to the
characteristic of the universe "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance,"
and let sentient beings return to their righteous state. Soft reformation has in
fact the purpose of trying to stop the Fa-rectification.
5. [Mainland China] A Chat in a Bus: Police Bribe a Person with Mental
Problems
A man said to his friend in a bus, "The current society is extremely
strange, a psychotic person can be sold for money. What's more, today's police
bribed such a person." All the passengers laughed. Some people immediately
asked, "What is it? Tell us." The man said, "We have a person
with severe mental problems in our place. One day he was ill and killed one of
his family members. The police came immediately and told the family that as long
as this person claimed to be a Falun Gong practitioner, the government would
give the family a certain amount of money." Several young people were
surprised, "What! How shameful of the government, buying people to frame
others!" Other people said, "What problem does Jiang have with Falun
Gong? Why does he fight so desperately to persecute Falun Gong?" All the
passengers began to discuss this. Several elderly people said, "Don't
believe what the government said, Falun Gong people are good people!"
6. [Beijing] Imprisoned Practitioners in the Beijing Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp
Firmly Hold on to Their Belief in Falun Gong
The following is information about some practitioners imprisoned in the
Beijing Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp. Even though they are suffering from torture
and hardship, and are in an extremely difficult situation, they have never given
in to the evil forces. They cannot get Teacher's new articles, nor do they have
a chance to study the Fa. However, they have a righteous understanding of the Fa,
and their determination to cultivate is unshakeable. They hope to have the
opportunity to tell all the practitioners around the world: they are determined
to cultivate and will keep going until the end of the Fa-rectification.
Wei Rutan is from Daxing County in Beijing, and he has been imprisoned in the
labor camp since December 1999. Because he refused to give up his belief in
Falun Dafa, Wei's term has been illegally prolonged twice. Each time was for six
months.
Qin Wei is a teacher in the 81st Middle School. Qin's term was
prolonged because he was determined to practice Falun Dafa. He is imprisoned
with other criminals doing hard labor.
Yu Ming is from Shenyang.
Gong Chengxi was a student in the Political and Judicial University.
Yang Shuqang is from Pinggu County.
Yang He is from Shijinshan.
Wang Jianying was a professor in the University of Science and Technology of
China.
Zhang Jiuhai is from Pinggu County. Zhang's term was prolonged for six
months.
He Yi was a student from Tsinghua University.
Wu Xiangwang was a student from Tsinghua University.
Meng Xianmin was a student from Capital Normal University.
Cheng Song is from Fangshan.
Fang Bin, under extreme pressure, gave in under torture in Tuanhe Forced
Labor Camp. He later wrote a declaration to announce he would continue to
practice.
7. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Practitioner Zheng Donghui is Tortured at
Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp
Practitioner Zheng Donghui (female, 30 years old), formerly an accountant of
Changchun Optical & Mechanical Instrument Factory, has been held illegally
beyond her term at the Changchun City Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. Trying to
force her to give up her belief in Falun Dafa, authorities have used many means
to torture her, including brutal beatings, shocking with electric batons,
hanging her above the ground, and putting a sign on her with words defaming
Falun Dafa and Teacher, not to mention yelling and swearing at her all the time.
As a result of being shocked with electric batons for an extended period of
time, the 30-year-old practitioner is suffering from severe heart problems. In
the summer of 2001, the guards forced her to wear woolen shoes instead of
sandals. She suffered from fungal infections and was quite miserable throughout
the whole summer.
8. [Shayang, Hubei Province] Practitioners Are Brutally Beaten at Shayang
Forced Labor Camp
Every practitioner sent to Shayang Forced Labor Camp is subjected to
brainwashing. Then, if that doesn't work, he or she will be put into a so-called
"Strict Management Class," where much harsher measures are applied.
Every morning, practitioners are forced to watch news stories slandering Falun
Dafa, and in the afternoon, they have to do heavy labor. Sometimes, they are
made to go through a tough military style of training: standing at attention in
the scorching sun or squatting. As soon as a practitioner shows signs of
disobedience, the guards will shock him or her with electric batons.
Practitioner Lan Jisheng was taken out of the camp to be shocked and beaten with
electric batons for the whole afternoon. Liu Xianghua was also shocked because
he was a little slow in following the orders. They only stopped beating him
after the rest of the practitioners started a hunger strike. A criminal monitors
each Strict Management Class, and practitioners are not allowed to speak to each
other. Kindhearted people, please recognize the nature of this evil. Fellow
practitioners, please send righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil elements.
9. [Daxing County, Beijing] Practitioner Illegally Held
A female practitioner has been illegally jailed for over 6 months. She was
arrested after she got out of a taxi in Beijing in July 2001. Even after
numerous interrogations, the police couldn't find a valid reason to detain her.
However, she was still jailed because she practices Falun Gong. As she has been
so firm in her belief, the police threatened to give her a heavy sentence. She
refused to tell them her name and address, so she was then given the number of
911. She is now still being held at Daxing County Detention Center, Beijing.
10. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Employees Are Asked to Peel off
Falun Dafa Materials Posted on Their Residence Buildings
Recently, a property management enterprise affiliated with the Daqing
Petroleum and Chemical Factory mobilized its staff to peel off, wash off or
paint over Falun Dafa flyers and banners on the residential buildings. The
company stipulates that the person responsible for cleaning the building has to
clear all Falun Dafa materials before dawn, or he or she will be penalized.
There was also a verbal decree that if someone catches a practitioner posting
Falun Dafa materials, he will be rewarded 1000 Yuan [translator's note:
approximately 2-month salaries of an average urban worker]

11. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Police Hire Taxi Drivers to Stalk
Practitioners
Police in Daqing City recently hired taxi drivers to stalk practitioners.
Taxi drivers are paid 70 Yuan a night starting at 7 p.m. Practitioners please be
careful and send righteous thoughts everyday at 7 p.m. to eliminate the evil.
12. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] A School Teacher from #103 Secondary
School Is Kidnapped by the Police
Yu Hongyan, a practitioner from Shenyang City, female, 30 years old, is an
English teacher at #103 Secondary School. She was arrested two weeks ago by the
police and is still being held.
13. [Bin County, Heilongjiang Province] The Director of the Local Police
Station Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners
Wang Linnian, Director of Wenhua Police Station, Binzhou Township, Bin county
of Heilongjiang province, followed the Jiang regime to persecute Falun Gong,
which led to 5 practitioners being put into a forced labor camp and numerous
practitioners being detained for not reporting to the police station as
required. On January 14, 2002, he kidnapped female practitioner Tan Hongmei from
the street.
