Falun Dafa around the World
(Clearwisdom.net) The present state of today's humankind is formed by countless tragic but magnificent historic stories that are little known to humankind.
In an era a long time ago, in the immense colossal firmament, the lords and kings of cosmic systems at different levels -- out of compassion for sentient beings and in order to attain the Fa at this moment in time when the Fa rectifies the cosmos and thereby save the beings that they represent -- fully experienced the hardships of history and endured disgrace and dishonor by coming down to the human world. Upon entering the three realms they became lost in the mortal world, and exhaustively suffered the mistreatment of low-level beings in the three realms, and in order to survive, they also created innumerable quantities of karma. Many were high lords, divine and holy Fa kings that confronted danger in the three realms and the human world, hoping to attain the Fa. Finally in this lifetime, they reincarnated in the eastern land of China at a time when Dafa is being widely spread. Their lives and futures directly affect many cosmic systems and the future of those sentient beings in the universe.
Nevertheless, from a long time ago, the old forces of the universe, out of only consideration for themselves, made plans at each level. From May of 1992 to the beginning of 1999, in these seven short years, cultivators of Falun Dafa reached one hundred million, and because the numbers were continuing to increase rapidly, in July of 1999 the evil forces began a comprehensive persecution targeting Falun Dafa. The destiny of those new students that just began practicing and many people with great inborn quality that had not yet attained the Fa took a serious turn.
"People haven't come to this human world for nothing," "Actually, people have been waiting for the Fa." (Reference 1) "All those sentient beings" that have thoroughly suffered the hardships of history and reincarnated in the land of China, from July 1999, not only because the evil old forces have obstructed them and they are not able to become Fa-rectification disciples, but due to serous poisoning from the lies spread by the evil forces, they have become hostile towards the truth of the universe, and even look upon Dafa and Dafa disciples with hatred. In Mainland China, more than a billion sentient beings have been placed in an extremely dangerous situation.
In Fa-rectification, Master treasures every single life, and silently bears the karma created from the degeneration of human beings in the course of history, painfully saving everyone that can be saved.
This time the Fa rectifies the cosmos, and it is a great event that has never occurred before in the entire history of the immense firmament. During this special period in history, the standards for measuring good and bad lives are also very unique. All lives in the cosmos are originated and created by the Fa. For an individual life, no matter how good or bad this life has been in ordinary human society, and no matter how enormous the karma it has generated, as long as this life does not damage Dafa or is able to have clear minded righteous thoughts towards Dafa in a timely manner, then this life can be rescued and in the future may even have the opportunity to be saved. But, "In the midst of the overwhelming, vicious propaganda, what those people have committed are no longer ordinary sins. Some of them are fated for destruction--regardless of where they came from, and regardless of what kind of predestined relationship they have or how high their levels were. Isn't it truly a pity for this to happen to a being?" (Reference 2)
Because of this, make the best use of time, and through every channel at various levels, use every effective method to deeply and meticulously clarify the truth to Chinese people and help Chinese people come to understand Dafa in a positive way. The significance of this is unparalleled. For all of the Fa-rectification disciples who have already been fortunate enough to attain the Fa, this has become an urgent responsibility to which we are duty-bound in our mission of helping Master in Fa-rectification.
At the same time, it is extremely important to do all of this well by rationally and wisely using methods that can be easily understood and accepted by others. This is not just an expression of Dafa disciples' compassion towards sentient beings and pure benevolent thoughts, but it also affects whether or not that life will truly be able to be saved or not.

(Clearwisdom.net) In the process of Fa-rectification, some old forces hold fast to their own arrangements which deviate from the characteristic of the universe. They interfere with Fa-rectification, and manipulate people to oppose and persecute Dafa and Dafa disciples. What our Dafa disciples cultivate is the righteous Fa, and we should be like the Buddhas, Daos, and Gods of the universe by being responsible for every righteous element in the universe. Therefore when dealing with the evil that damages Fa-rectification, we must resolutely and thoroughly eliminate it. Master said, "Eliminating evil is thus doing Fa-rectification, and is also saving the world's people and sentient beings" ("Dafa Disciples' Righteous Thoughts are Powerful"). Actually, eliminating evil is also being compassionate towards lives that have become corrupt to the point that they are no longer savable.
The arrangement for Fa-rectification is very well ordered. What it currently requires us to clear out are the beings that have taken part in damaging Dafa. As for some other beings, although they have become quite bad or even extremely evil, as long as they are not currently taking part in damaging Dafa, they are not the ones that we need clear out during this Fa-rectification period. That will be an issue to be resolved in the future when the Fa rectifies the human world.
Dafa disciples' elimination of evil is entirely out of pure benevolence; it is out of being responsible for the Fa, sentient beings, and one's own cultivation. Recently a small number of students has treated all the conflicts and obstacles met within life and society as demons, and have sent out thoughts to clear them out. In doing this, though, they have neglected the important aspect in individual cultivation that one must look inside and improve one's xinxing. This type of mentality not only can be easily taken advantage of by demons and has the effect of damaging Dafa's reputation, but also directly interferes with the well ordered arrangement for Fa-rectification. When the issue of sending forth righteous thoughts was discussed for the first time during the lecture in Canada in 2001, Master seriously told us, "But if you use this for something a cultivator shouldn't do, it won't work; as soon as the thought arises, retribution will follow or your level will drop."
The steps we take in Fa-rectification may all become references for the future. Because of this, Dafa disciples must maintain clear-headedness, understand the Fa from within the Fa, use righteous and benevolent thoughts to treat everything, and have compassion for sentient beings.

On November 2, 2001, California Saratoga City Councilman Stan Bogosian and San Jose City Councilman Chuck Reed wrote a joint letter to President Bush and called on other California elected officials to co-sign it. The letter condemned Jiang Zemin's regime for its persecution of Falun Gong and urged President Bush to help release Teng Chunyan and Chen Gang.
The letter also circulated a notice on the actions that Jiang Zemin's regime has systematically taken that violate the rights of American scholars as well as the attempts to subtly intimidate elected American officials.
Within a short time after the letter was circulated, it received warm responses from other California officials.
The following is the content of the letter.

Dear President Bush,
As local elected officials, we request that you communicate to the Chinese government that further persecution of the Falun gong practitioners in China is completely unacceptable. In particular, we request that the Chinese government release Dr. Chunyan Teng (a permanent United States resident) and Mr. Gang Chen who have been detained for their association with Falun Gong.
Last week, we joined other elected officials in welcoming to San Jose practitioners of Falun Gong who had walked the length of California to call attention to the human rights abuses in China. It was an inspiring experience, and reminded us of the reason the men and women of our armed forces are risking their lives to defend the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
We would also like to bring to your attention the fact that the Chinese government has extended the persecution of practitioners of Falun Gong beyond the borders of China into the United States. There has been a systematic effort by Chinese consulate officials to interfere with the constitutional rights of practitioners to peaceably assemble in our country, and through subtle intimidation, local elected officials have been pressured not to recognize the practice of Falun Gong. Many of the local officials who issued proclamations recognizing Falun Gong have received letters from the Chinese government requesting that those proclamations be rescinded. In some cases, those requests were made in person by representatives of the Chinese Consulate. Mr. President, we ask you to inform the government of China that interference to our democratic process in this country must stop.
Today, China is in the process of becoming a full-fledged member of the worldwide trading community. And we cannot over emphasize the importance to Silicon Valley of a healthy trading relationship with China. However, this relationship must not come at the cost of violation of basic human rights. In the past century, history has shown us that ignoring these principles for short-term gains results in large loss of life in the long run.
As representatives of our communities, we stand together to request your leadership in obtaining the release of Dr. Teng and Mr. Chen, as well as the release of all people who are detained in China simply for the practice of their beliefs. It is our conviction that America will be stronger for those efforts.

Dear Friends,
On behalf of Prime Minister Goran Persson, I thank you for your letter about the treatment of Falun Gong members in China. The Prime Minister has given me the task to send you an answer.
The treatment of Falun Gong practitioners in China are serious violations of human rights. On many occasions the Swedish government has emphasised its repudiation regarding the treatment that Falun Gong practitioners are facing in China. This has been done through the direct dialogues with the Chinese government as well as through the involvement and leadership within EU-community. You can be sure that the Swedish government shall continue to pay attention to the treatment of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
Finally I want to send greetings to those friends who have returned home and I wish you success in your work for human rights.

December 3, 2001 -- San Francisco, CA Friends of Falun Gong, a non-profit organization that is formed by non-Falun Gong practitioners hosted its first annual appreciation dinner on Saturday December 1 at Sequoia Yacht Club in the Bay Area. This event is meant to recognize a few distinguished persons and organizations who have fought for the human rights of those who practice Falun Gong, and who have supported the "SOS! Urgent Rescue" efforts for Falun Gong practitioners persecuted in China.
About 100 Bay Area Falun Gong supporters and human rights advocates attended this event. They represent California government officials, human rights organizations, the overseas Chinese community, and members of "Friends of Falun Gong." Dr. George Lee, the Regional Director of Friends of Falun Gong hosted the evening's event. Dr. Lee is the US-China Business Institute Director at San Francisco State University. He was also the former Commercial Attache at the American Embassy in Beijing. "I am not a Falun Gong practitioner," said Dr. Lee, "Friends of Falun Gong represent the society's support for Falun Gong practitioners. We are here today to thank those who courageously stand up for justice and defend the basic human rights of the practitioners. But we need to do more."
Mr. Alan Adler, the executive director of Friends of Falun Gong, said in his speech, "I think if our government, the public, and all of us here continue to raise this Falun Gong issue again and again, and continue to put pressure on Chinese authorities, they won't be able to sustain this campaign any longer."
The awards were presented to Congressman Tom Lantos, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, San Jose Councilman Chuck Reed, Saratoga Councilman Stan Bogosian, San Francisco Board of Supervisor Chris Daly, Gilroy Mayor Thomas Springer, Amnesty International, and the San Francisco Human Rights Commission.
California Assembly Majority Leader Kevin Shelley had his staff present a proclamation to Friends of Falun Gong, "On behalf of the people of the State of California, I wish to express my sincere gratitude for your many contributions and services in support of Falun Gong's human rights. Please accept this certificate of recognition as a symbol of my appreciation."
Margery Farrar from Congressman Tom Lantos' office also read a statement from the Congressman. "It will be the millions of Chinese people, both outside and inside the present Communist Party structure, who privately sympathize with the values and approach of Falun Gong practitioners and other peaceful, compassionate philosophies and religions, who inevitably, within most of our lifetime, will prevail in China."

(Clearwisdom.net) Hou Xiuping, female, about 35 years old, lived in Xiagou of Nanguan District, Changchun City, Jilin Province before her death.
After July 22, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was detained for 15 days after being illegally arrested and was sent back to Changchun City. On July 11, 2000, someone reported her to the police for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials inside the small shop she ran. She was then again detained, this time for 15 days. In December 2000, Hou Xiuping went to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Gong; she was sentenced to 3 years of forced labor. Her family could not endure this, so they spent a lot of money to have the sentence reduced to 1 year.
In the police station, while one of her family members was going through the paper work in one room, Hou Xiuping was being watched by police in another room. After her family member finished the paper work, he (or she) was told that Hou Xiuping had "committed suicide by jumping off the building." Her family was not convinced by what the police claimed and wanted an investigation and demanded to appeal to higher authorities. The police department gave her family 20,000 Yuan [about 4 years average income in urban China] to settle the issue privately. It is obvious that the person who committed this wrong deed was quite worried.
Hopefully the people who know the details will provide more information on Hou Xiuping's death.

1. [Shandong Province] Laiwu Steel and Iron Group Sends a Practitioner to a Labor Camp After Forcing Her to Have an Abortion
On October 8, Laiwu Steel and Iron Group again illegally sent a female practitioner, Jiao Fangyu, to Wangcun Labor Camp. Her family received a notice issued by Ding Qiang, the chief of the Nanling Police Station under the Yinshan Police Department. But the notice didn't state where Jiao was being held. This demonstrates that these vicious people were afraid of disclosing their evil acts.
Panzhuang Police Station arrested Jiao Fangyu while she was distributing flyers about Falun Dafa in the Zhangdian District of Zibo City. After she had been detained for fifteen days, people from Laiwu Iron Group brought her back home. She was then illegally held at the factory police section for continuing to practice Falun Gong. She was four months pregnant at that time. During her detention, vicious police officers forced her to have an abortion. The crimes committed by the Jiang Zemin group are horrific, and will not be tolerated by heaven's principles! 2. [Jing County, Hebei Province] Dafa Practitioner Sun Lianping Missing After Being Beaten Until Disabled
Sun Lianping, female, 25 years old, is a Dafa practitioner from Jing County in Hebei Province. The local police sent her to the Shijiazhuang Women's Labor Camp in 2000. She resisted the brainwashing classes she was forced to attend, and refused to betray the Fa that teaches "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance." She was brutally tortured by the police and as a result she became disabled and was no longer able to take care of herself. In order to cover up its crime and avoid taking responsibility, the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp instructed the Jing County Police Department to take her into custody. After Sun's family learned about this, they went to the County Police Department and the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecuteáFalun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) to visit her. They were told, "She is not here." Her family then went to the Shijiazhuang Women's Labor Camp to look for her. Here they were told, "The County Police Department already took her back."
Thus, the whereabouts of a woman who became disabled from being beaten are not known, and no one knows if she is still alive. 3. [Beijing] Female English Teacher on Hunger Strike for 27 Days After Being Arrested
On September 30, 2001, Wang Yi, an English Teacher at Northern Jiaotong University, was arrested at her temporary residence.
On the morning of September 30, Xu Ming, Wang Yi's husband, tricked his father-in-law into going to the University Security Department, where they tried to get him to reveal his daughter's location. After more than four hours of questioning, they still didn't have the information. They decided to devise a plan to kidnap Wang.
Around noon, Wang's father returned to his hotel from the university. He telephoned his daughter and had lunch with her. This kind and innocent old man didn't realize that his beloved daughter would soon be arrested. Led by Xu Ming, the University Security Department learned of Wang Yi's whereabouts. After lunch, the father took his daughter home. They said good-bye at the entrance of the building she was living in. The old man went back to work.
As Wang Yi went up the stairs, she saw plain-clothed police waiting on the third floor. Shortly after she entered her apartment on the fifth floor, she heard knocking on the door. As soon as he opened the door, the seventeen-year-old son of the landlord was pushed over and pressed to the ground. Police officers took Wang Yi to the Dazhongsi Police Station. This operation was carried out by Northern Jiaotong University in alliance with the Dazhongsi Police Station. The address was supplied by Xu Ming who had followed his father-in-law. The police officers involved were all plain-clothed. They used taxis instead of police cars. Days later, Wang Yi was sent to Qinghe Detention Center in Haidian.
During her detention, Wang Yi was interrogated every day. Vicious police officers tortured her in the hopes of destroying her strong willpower and making her stop practicing Falun Dafa.
Wang Yi refused the arrangement made by the evil old forces. Determined to defend Dafa with her life, she went on a hunger strike on October 27. Several days later, she was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment and force-feeding. As of today, Wang Yi has been on a hunger strike for 27 days. Her life is in great danger. 4. [Changchun, Jilin Province] Dafa Practitioners, Yang Xuemei and Shao Weixin, Sue Employer for Unilaterally Canceling Their Employment Contracts
According to Sections 77, 79, 82, and 83 of the Labor Law and Sections 2 and 39 of the Business Labor Disputes Settlement Provisions of the People's Republic of China, Yang Xuemei and Shao Weixin, former employees of the Changchun Commercial Vehicles Factory of Jilin Province filed a complaint against the factory for unilaterally canceling their employment contracts after they were illegally detained and sent to labor camps for practicing Falun Gong. The hearing by the Jilin Labor Dispute Arbitration Committee opened on November 20. The ruling will be announced in seven days. We are calling for people's close attention to this. We also urge Falun Dafa practitioners around the world to send forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil.

5. [Beijing] 16 Dafa Practitioners Are Kidnapped and Sent to Psychiatric Hospital
Urgent News from Beijing: Around November 20, approximately 15 Beijing Dafa practitioners were detained for no reason by police officers from the Desheng Menwai Police Station. They plan to send the practitioners to a psychiatric hospital on November 22.

6. [Harbin, Heilongjiang Province] Physics Undergraduate at Harbin Industrial College Is Being Persecuted
Gu Dongfeng, male, 23, was an undergraduate student in the Class of '97 at Harbin Industrial College, Heilongjiang Province. On April 23, 2000 he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. Zhang Yandong, a police officer from the 11th precinct, beat Gu in the college security office. Later, the Huayuan Police Station sent Gu to the Nangang Police Substation and illegally detained him, without bail, for 21days. On October 28 of the same year, the college security unit sent him to Nangang Substation and illegally detained him for 27 days because he had distributed CDs about Falun Dafa. They demanded 3,000 Yuan for bail (the average monthly salary is 500 Yuan). During two illegal detainments, the college forced Gu's parents to travel from Jiangsu to Harbin, which cost them 6,700 Yuan. At the same time, his family experienced tremendous stress and pressure. In May 2001 Gu Dongfeng suddenly disappeared.
7. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Dafa Practitioner Repel Fierce Persecution in Weizigou Labor Camp
The Dafa practitioners being illegally detained in Changchun Weizigou Labor Camp suffered brutal physical and mental torture. They have to be up every morning at 5 o'clock, doing dirty and tiring work until 6 o'clock at night.
Li, male, 58, had many illnesses before practicing Falun Dafa. He became very healthy after practicing Dafa. Since he has been detained in the labor camp, all his illnesses have recurred. At the beginning, he was very depressed and endured the persecution passively. Later, he realized that detaining Dafa practitioners without reason is illegal. Dafa practitioners are most righteous and have to correct all the iniquity, and should definitely not co-operate with the vicious orders of the police. Under such a difficult situation, he went on a hunger strike three times to repel the excessive persecution. He has suffocated the persecution effectively and improved the situation. During his hunger strikes, the superintendents bullied and threatened him numerous times, and threatened to increase his jail term. Li was not scared. He told the superintendent righteously, "Even if I have to die, I will use my life to validate Dafa." Dafa practitioner's righteous thoughts have scared the evil.
8. [Jiutai, Jilin Province] The Atrocities of the Political and Judiciary Section of City Police Department
On the evening of September 19, 2001, Dafa practitioners Qu Rongying (female) from Dehui City (Yang Shu County, Jilin Province) and Su Hong (female) from Jiutai City (Jilin Province) were kidnapped on their way home from distributing Dafa truth-clarification materials. They were taken to the Lu Jiashian Police Station by police officers from the "Worker and Farmer" Police Station. On the morning of September 20, in order to get Qu Rongying to reveal his name and address, Political and Judiciary Section Chief Qu Chunsen, section member Wang Haohong, and Leu took turns torturing her. Firstly, Qu Chunsen slapped Qu Rongying's face, which caused her mouth to bleed. This was followed by continuous torture by Leu and Wang. Qu Rongying did not give in at all. Around 10 o'clock that night, the ruffians yelled and threatened to hang Qu Rongying up when they saw that she would not give in. Because of an emergency, the few people in the "Political and Judiciary" section gradually had to leave. In order to avoid more brutal physical abuse and escape, Qu Rongying jumped out of a third-floor window and planned to run away. Unfortunately, she was injured during the fall and passed out. When she woke up, she was inside the emergency room of Jiutai City Hospital. After examination, it was found that the bones of her left heel and the right ankle were shattered. She had to stay at the hospital for 19 days before she was released to go home.
The persecution by the ruffians has seriously damaged Qu Rongying's mind and body. Her family was also distressed by these events.
9. [Beijing] Dafa Practitioners Sun Yi And Ma Li Illegally Detained and Sent to Forced Labor Camps
Recently, two Dafa practitioners were illegally detained by the wicked police and sent to forced labor camps by the Beijing Shi Jingshan 610 office.
Ma Li, female, was sentenced to one and half years in a labor camp for distributing Dafa truth-clarification materials. Sun Yi, male, was secretly locked up after being detained. It appears he has been illegally sentenced to 8 years in prison. The following describes some of the persecution that Sun Yi has experienced:
In the summer of 2000, Sun Yi was arrested and beaten so viscously by Shi Jingshan police that he lost the hearing in his left ear for some time.
In June 2000, Shi Jingshan "610" Office and police officers forcibly kidnapped Sun Li from his work unit and sent him to a brainwashing class. Sun Li refused to listen to the crooked reasoning of Li Xinshui who has enlightened along an evil path. Li Xinshui threatened to send him to a labor camp. The following night, when the guard was not paying attention, Sun Yi left the brainwashing class. He has since become destitute and homeless.
10. [Shaanxi Province] Female Forced Labor Camp Persecutes Dafa Practitioners
Practitioners detained in the Shaanxi Province Female Forced Labor Camp are inhumanely tortured in body and mind. Police destroy and violate the law. Since June, male police regularly beat female practitioners with batons. They manipulate criminals to monitor practitioners and to perform various corporal and spiritual punishments such as forcing them to stand for excruciatingly long periods of time, and not allowing them to sleep.

11. [Daan, Jilin Province] Changhong Police Station Kidnapped Practitioners and Punished Their Relatives
In September 2001, while an aged female practitioner was erasing the slander written by police, officers from the Changhong Police Station kidnapped her off the street. Police planned to send her to a brain washing class. However, she sent forth righteous thoughts and escaped from the police station the next day. When they noticed that she had escaped, police ran after her in a frenzy. They ransacked her home twice even though they had already searched her home when she was first arrested. When they couldn't find her, they went to her sister's home and banged heavily on the door. At that time her sister and sister-in-law were not at home, only a young girl, a grandmother, and a visitor were at the home. Without waiting for the door to be opened, police climbed over the entranceway and jumped into the courtyard. They opened the door and 7 men rushed in. They claimed they were police but didn't show any documents. Like bandits, they ransacked the whole house. After they finished searching the west room, they went to the east room. The grandmother who lives in the east room is 85 years old. Because of her old age, she was slow in opening the door. Without waiting for her to open the door, police pushed in the window and jumped into the room. They over-turned everything in the room, even a cabinet and a water jar. The grandmother was so frightened that she had heart palpitations and loose bowels for more than 3 weeks. Although police didn't find anything, they stayed there until the girl called her father to come home. Half an hour later, police returned with a search and arrest warrant for the practitioner's sister. They claimed that the sister had visited the practitioner in the police station and suspected that she had helped the practitioner escape. The husband refused to sign the warrant. Again, police ransacked the home. They even searched the neighbors' houses. Police arrested a niece who happened to be visiting the family. They suspected the niece of helping her aunt. The niece was detained for 12 hours and was illegally interrogated. The police not only violate the law but also harass people and make them live uneasy.
12. [Mainland China] Two Small Practitioners Safeguard Dafa and Eliminate the Evil With Righteous Thoughts
On September 14, 2001, Bingbing's mother was kidnapped by police while she was telling people that Falun Dafa is a righteous cultivation way. As usual, the police wanted to ransack her home while she was being detained. Because Bingbing's mother didn't cooperate, police were unable to learn her name and address. Around 5:00 p.m., many practitioners heard of her arrest. They began sending forth righteous thoughts right away to eliminate the evil. At the same time a practitioner went to Bingbing's home to look after her and to remove any Dafa materials (Bingbing was home alone as her father was out of town). The police couldn't find any of the Dafa materials, even though a new police officer seemed to arrive every few minutes.
Bingbing determinedly sent forth righteous thoughts and said, "I won't leave home. I will stay here to prohibit the police from entering my home!" The practitioner agreed with her. Then she asked another young practitioner, who is 3 years older, to stay with her. At approximately 5:00 a.m. the next morning, they were awakened by heavy knocking at the door. From the door mirror they could see plain clothed police blocking the stairs. The two young practitioners calmly phoned other practitioners to tell them that police were surrounding their house. All practitioners who were called began sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil. They thought: "The Fa rectifies the Cosmos, the Evil is completely eliminated" in order to prohibit the police from entering the home. Around 8:00 am, the police used a passkey to try to unlock the door. It seemed that the lock was nearly opened and another lock was turning also. The young practitioners rushed to the door. Each of them held a lock with their hands. They continually thought, "The Fa rectifies the Cosmos, the Evil is completely eliminated." Suffocated by such strong righteous thoughts, the police failed to unlock the door. They kept trying until 11:00 a.m., at which time they gave up and left. At 2:00 p.m., Bingbing's father returned home and rescued them.
Although the two young practitioners didn't go to school and didn't eat anything that day, they were happy because they safeguarded Dafa materials and eliminated the evil with righteous thought. Bingbing's mother also managed to remove the handcuffs using righteous thoughts and escaped from the police. She returned to the current of Fa-rectification.
13. [Beijing] With Righteous Thoughts, a Detained Practitioner Walks Away from a Policeman
I walked away from a policeman on January 23, 2001. That morning, a police officer escorted me to the Beijing West Train Station to hand me over to two officers who were arriving from my hometown. At the entrance to the train station, I stood by the policeman as he talked with the two officers on the phone:
"Hello, have you arrived yet?" The policeman asked.
"Yes, and we have bought three tickets for the 8:10 a.m. train."
"It is 7:50 now so hurry up."
"Ok, where are you?"
"We are at the entrance to the station."
As they were talking, I thought, "I should not go back with them and I want to reveal the evil treatment of Falun Gong practitioners at Shijingshan Police Station. As I was thinking this, I started walking away from the policeman. After walking 2-3 meters, I looked back and saw the policeman was staring at me, but he didn't seem to really see me and did not try to stop me from leaving. Although I had been on a hunger strike for 17 days, I felt my body was so light, just like Master described in Zhuan Falun, "While walking, I feel like I'm leaving the ground." I did not feel my wounds or any pains. I realized this was just part of the manifestation of the great virtue of Dafa! In "Dafa Disciples' Righteous Thoughts are Powerful," Master said, "But regardless of whether they can manifest in the surface dimension or not, when a person's True Thoughts come forth, they are very powerful." At a critical time holding a righteous thought is very important, since it shows a person's true Xinxing. The fact that I safely walked away from the police officer also indicates that Master is indeed protecting his students all the time.
14. [Beijing] Practitioner Li Guiping Was Arrested -- Leaving Her 12-Month-Old Infant Behind
In early August, practitioner Li Guiping (female) was illegally taken from her apartment by officers from the Chaoyang Police Bureau in Beijing. Her whereabouts are still unknown. Because of her arrest, a 12-month-old infant in nursing was left at home. We hope all kind people will pay attention to this case and try to help.
15. [Inner Mongolia] Practitioner Jiang Xuexing Was Illegally Arrested in Beijing in Early July 2001
When Jiang Xuexing, an Inner Mongolian practitioner, was illegally arrested in early July in Beijing, he had some Dafa materials with him. Several days later, his home was illegally searched. Perhaps he was followed by a plain-clothes policeman when he went to meet with other practitioners. We do not know where he is being held, and hope someone can tell us his whereabouts.
16. [Dalian, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Liu Qingtao is Persecuted
Dafa practitioner Liu Qingtao lives on Zhongchang Street in Jingzhou District, Dalian City. In 1999, when Jiang Zemin's regime started to persecute Falun Gong, Liu went to Beijing unhesitatingly to appeal for Falun Gong.
In Beijing he helped many other practitioners to arrange their accommodations, and so he was illegally arrested for being an "organizer" and escorted back to Jinzhou by police. Although police could not find any convincing criminal evidence, they have not released him yet. Therefore Liu has been illegally detained in the Jinzhou Detention Center for over two years, and is not allowed visits from his family. Obviously, all of these are serious violations of the law.
With Liu in jail his family suffers. His mother, son, and wife all live on his wife's low income, and his wife has to pay a fee for his living expenses at the detention center. It is unimaginable how difficult it is for his family now. His relatives went to see officers at both the local police station and law enforcement departments seeking a solution. However the officers took no pity, they just passed the problem back and forth.
We hope all kind people in the world and human rights organizations can help this miserable family. They have been suffering for over two years under Jiang Zemin's persecution.
17. [Changchun, Jilin Province] Reveal the Cruel Treatment of Dafa Practitioners Detained in Heizuizi Labor Camp
I am a female practitioner, and I have been illegally detained twice for talking about the goodness of Dafa and spreading Dafa to the police. I was sentenced to two years of labor education in a forced labor camp. When I was sent to the female section of the Heizuizi Labor Camp in Changchun, I wrote an appeal letter but an officer seized it. We started a hunger strike in order to acquire the environment in which we can practice Falun Gong exercises. For this we were beaten by Captain Zhu and Jail Doctor Guo with electronic batons. With vigor they slapped my face repeatedly until I opened my mouth to take some food.
Everyday we are forced to work overloaded jobs. If we slow down even a little bit, we are yelled at and cursed by caption Li. When we used our sleep time to practice the exercises, an officer shocked us with an electronic baton, and he instructed the guards to beat us. Officer Hou birched our mouths forcibly. When they found us studying Master's articles, they shocked us with the baton, locked us in "little cells" for solitary confinement and even extended our sentences without following any legal procedures. For refusing to give up Falun Gong, Wang Yan (female, 19) was shocked by officers many times, while Wang Guilan (female) was humiliated by officers who hit her face with water melon rinds until her whole face was covered in dirty juice. For practicing Falun Gong, female practitioner Zhu E's face and chest were shocked with an electronic baton for about an hour by Captain Zhang. Her whole face immediately started to swell. Two days later, both her face and chest were covered with blisters the size of goose eggs. When Jin Min (female) was caught reading one of Master Li's articles, she was shocked by officer Yu with an electric baton for a long time and then locked into a "little cell" where she was kept for over two weeks.
18. [Shulan, Jilin Province] Reveal the Criminal Persecution of Practitioners at the Beicheng Police Station
On the evening of February 2, 2001, Dafa practitioner Li Tao and Chen Renzhe, citizens of Shulan, were arrested as they were giving out flyers about Falun Gong and sent to the Beicheng Police Station. Li Jiazhe, head of the political security department of Shulan City Police Bureau, is very wicked and slapped Li Tao's face when he refused to say where he got the flyers. Du Yu, vice director of the station, also malevolently kicked Li Tao's neck. Du is very evil, as we know he has beaten many other practitioners. Because Li Tao still did not tell where he obtained the flyers, Li Jiazhe ordered Li Tao's wife (a non-practitioner) to be brought to the jail. He shouted, "I will kill you, destroy your family, and make your wife and son disappear."
Practitioner Chen Renzhe was beaten for more than half an hour by political director Wang Xinshui, officers Zhu Zhaohe and Wang, and by Jiang, a laborer. Chen Renzhe hid the cellular phone chip in his mouth so the police would not be able to get the phone numbers of the practitioners he had called. To get the chip, those officers used a toothbrush and an iron bar to pry his mouth open, while they squeezed his neck. His face and neck were so seriously injured that he could not eat for five days.

19. [Beijing] Practitioner Li Kun and Two Others Arrested
On the evening of November 20, 2001, three Dafa practitioners were arrested while telling the truth about Falun Gong in the Huangfa area. They are Li Kun (male), Yang (female), and Xi (female). They were taken to the county police bureau and have not been released yet.
We appeal to practitioners reading this information to please send righteous thoughts to help them walk out the beast's den.
As practitioners in China face tremendous pressure to give up their beliefs under the Chinese regime's brutal persecution, there are those who have given in and signed documents renouncing Falun Dafa. However, many of these people deeply regret doing so after they are released from detention and labor camps. "Solemn declarations" are the public statements made by such practitioners, often at great risk to their personal safety, to declare to the world that the documents they signed under duress are null and void and that they will continue to practice Falun Dafa.

(Clearwisdom.net) During the last two years, evil deeds by those in Anhui Province who closely followed the orders from Jiang's and Lou's criminal regime to persecute Dafa and Falun Gong practitioners have brought disasters to their local area.
A TV program showed farmers who were helpless and sad upon seeing the severe drought, and insufficient or no harvest at all. In the past, watermelon could bring a price of 0.4 to 0.5 Yuan per catty [a catty is 600 grams] to more than 1 Yuan per catty. This year was really bad. Most of the time, watermelon could only be sold at 0.1 Yuan per catty. Locally, the well-known Dangshan Pears only sold for a few cents per catty and sometimes they could be sold to tourists and visitors for up to 0.2 Yuan per catty. Farmers planting watermelons and fruits were in a miserable state beyond description. In Anhui Province, the unemployed often blocked the roads of the capital city of Hefei. On November 27, the chemical/mechanic plant experienced a grave accident of leaking poisonous gas again. This accident caused the death of three young males and one young female who were just over 20 years old.
During the last two years, the wicked scoundrels who closely followed the orders from Jiang's criminal regime illegally and forcibly detained many Dafa practitioners who exercised their right granted by the Constitution to appeal for Falun Gong. They tortured Dafa practitioner Li Mei to death, illegally detained more than 30 Dafa practitioners at the end of this year, and illegally sentenced some of the practitioners to forced labor camps.
Dafa practitioner Wu Xuedi was illegally arrested at home in early November and was forcibly carried away by the wicked police. Recently, Dafa practitioner Yu Jun was illegally sentenced to 4 years in jail by the court at Gaoxin's Developmental Zone. Dafa practitioners Wu Xiaohua, Guo Qiong, and Zhai Yanan were illegally sent to mental hospitals by the evil scoundrels of Jiang's criminal regime and later sentenced to forced labor camp. Dafa practitioner Li Mei was illegally arrested and severely injured from forced-feedings.
Currently, a variety of disasters, including explosions, boats sinking and bridges collapsing continue to happen in China. Are all of these simply coincidence? Why were there no mishaps on such a large scale before? The outrageous orders of Jiang Zemin and the selfishness and indifference of some civilians will only bring inconvertible disasters to themselves and their families.
Advice to the public: Do not associate yourself with the evil minions of Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan. Being kind to Dafa and Dafa practitioners is being kind to yourselves.
(Clearwisdom.net) On September 19, 2001, four female Falun Dafa practitioners who were working in the fields were summoned to the village police station. The police told them that they only needed to answer a few questions and then could go home. The interrogation started as soon as they arrived at the police station. The officers continuously asked questions about their practice of Falun Dafa and going to Beijing to appeal. The police chief said, "Just compile some documents and send them off. They don't have to go to the city police department, just take them straight to the detention center." So as a result, these practitioners were unlawfully detained without any legitimate reason.
One of the practitioners was a nursing mother. They were about to take her away when the other three practitioners cited a law prohibiting the detention of nursing mothers. So, she was left behind. Later we heard that the village police station made her family pay a sum of money before releasing her. During that night, the other three practitioners were sent to the detention center. September nights in northeast China are very cold, and these practitioners were only wearing thin clothing.
When they arrived at the detention center, they were told that the reason for their detainment was because they had written a letter calling for the government to awaken its kind heart. Practitioners asked the official, "Our country's laws allow citizens to voice their opinions. After learning Falun Dafa, we have benefited both mentally and physically. What is wrong with telling the government about our personal experiences? But now, Jiang Zemin is running a totalitarian regime, if anyone has a different opinion, he will suppress them and even send them to jail. Is this what human rights in China is like? You all know the letters that we wrote were about awakening the government's kind heart. Is that the wrong thing to do?" The guard had nothing to say in rebuttal, so he said, "These days, where can you get justice?"
The practitioners started a hunger strike to protest against the unlawful detention. However, on the second day of their hunger strike, the officials at the detention center became angry and transferred the practitioner whom they saw as a leader and detained her at the forced labor camp. At the same time, they threatened the other two practitioners that if they continued to hunger strike, they would also be sent to labor camp. On the ninth day of the hunger strike, the doctor said after examining the practitioners that they were on the verge of death. They must be immediately sent to the hospital or sent home. But the officials declared that they could only return home after October 1, the Chinese National Day. They said that who cares if the practitioners die, there would be no police present if they were taken to the hospital. Finally, these lawless officials told the practitioners the truth, "There's nothing big going on. It is almost October 1, and we are afraid you may go to Beijing. That's why we locked you up so that we can have a carefree holiday." In order to be "carefree," they illegally detained these practitioners for 15 days. These so-called "public servants" never thought about the detainees' or their families' welfare during the holiday.
However, things did not end there. After October 1, the Politics and Law Committee and the detention center called the village police station to send the practitioners back home. The village police then tried to extort 2,000 Yuan, approximately four months' salary of an average urban worker in China, from each of the practitioners' families. Their families refused to pay, so the practitioners were detained for another 8 days.

At around 9 a.m. on November 17, 2001, the terrorist "610" Office (a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches) from Xinji City, Hebei Province gathered more than 10 vicious police who climbed into the courtyard of a practitioner's rented home. They forcefully handcuffed the three practitioners, Chen Ping (female), Li Zhiyong and his wife, to the bedpost, and then started to illegally search their house. At around 9:30 a.m., Shijiazhuang Dafa practitioner Liu Kunjian (Chen Ping's husband) knocked on the door and was dragged into the house by the waiting police, where he was beaten and kicked. They used their stiff leather shoes to ferociously kick and stomp on Liu's chest and legs. Liu sustained many injuries to the chest and the rest of the body.
The evil police stole their photocopier, one motorcycle, four bicycles, four beepers, two mobile phones and approximately 8,000 Yuan [Approximately 16 months' salary of an average urban worker in China]. That day at noon, the four practitioners were kidnapped and brought to the Xinji City Police Department for a "trial." Dafa practitioner Chen Ping and Lai Zi (alias) were brutally beaten because they refused to co-operate with such an unlawful trial. Police used a 20 cm by 100 cm rifle butt and a steel pipe to strike at practitioner Chen Ping's chest. They then handcuffed Chen from behind and pushed her to the ground. Two police placed the pipe on top of Chen's calves and with one on each side, they used all their strength to stamp and squash the pipe downwards. Chen Ping, this brave and determined Dafa practitioner, bit down and did not make a sound until she fainted from the pain. During this time, police Geng Zhanfeng (vicious criminal who has been exposed by Clearwisdom.net many times for his persecution of Falun Gong) brutally hit practitioner Chen's face until it became swollen and deformed. Due to the unsuccessful trial, the police confined Chen Ping and Liu Kunjian inside a room for four days during which the two practitioners went on a hunger strike. After four days, they were forcefully brought back to the Shijiazhuang Shidian Hotel while the four other practitioners were kept at Xinji City to be persecuted further.
At the Shidian Hotel, Chen Ping and Liu Kunjian were confined in rooms 105 and 109 respectively and were handcuffed all day to steel chairs. The head of the main team of the State Political Protection Department tried to tempt the practitioners who resolutely refused to co-operate. During this time, Liu Kunjian was forcefully fed water. Four days later Liu Kunjian had high blood pressure and severe heart illness. The police in the main team of the State Political Protection Department were afraid to take responsibility so they called in the doctor for a check up. Even though the doctor said that Liu Kunjian's health was in a very bad state, they still wanted to send Liu to labor camp. The doctor said, "With such severe injuries, any place would be too afraid to accept this person." The heartless police yelled, "Are you trying to die here? Are you trying to cause us trouble?" Later the evil officials at the Eastern Heat Gas Company and the state "610" Office started to secretly plot the continual persecution of practitioners. Liu Kunjian, with righteous thoughts, firmly refused to co-operate at the entrance to the City's Number Three Hospital and exposed the evil to the surrounding crowd. He said, "My name is Liu Kunjian, I'm a worker at the Eastern Heat Gas Company. I am a Falun Dafa practitioner, they are persecuting me, if I die, then it is because of their torture!" The company and the police station did not know what to do and after asking for instructions at the "610" Office, they reluctantly sent the both mentally and physically tortured Liu Kunjian back home. Liu Kunjian's spouse, Chen Ping, is still currently being illegally detained and has been on a hunger strike for more than 10 days. The situation is very urgent!

This is a report on the grave situation of Pan Xuanzhi caused by the illegal acts of various departments. We call upon the international community to uphold her legal rights and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Pan Xuanzhi (non-practitioner) is sixty years old. During the Cultural Revolution in the '70s, she was tortured at her workplace in Weishan Farm in Beian City, Heilongjiang Province until she lost consciousness. She was later forcibly committed to a mental hospital, and diagnosed with schizophrenia. She lost her capacity to work. Her relatives conveyed particulars of her torture to the central government; however, no legal remedy was in the offing.
Since 1992 when Falun Dafa was introduced and widely disseminated in China, several relatives of Pan Xuanzhi also started practicing and benefited profoundly from Falun Dafa. Their chronic illnesses were cured. "One person practices, the whole family benefits." Although Pan Xuanzhi does not practice, she also benefited from Dafa and her health took a turn for the better.
Since July of 1999 when Jiang's regime started suppressing Falun Gong, several relatives were illegally arrested and detained because they refused to renounce their belief. The whole family was saddened. Why are those good people being punished? In March 2000, in order to say a few fair words for her relatives, Pan Xuanzhi wrote a letter to the Beijing Bureau of Appeals to relate the truth about Falun Gong. She was sent back to Weishan Farm by her workplace's office in Beijing and later sent back home. During this period of time, Pan Xuanzhi heard and later witnessed her relatives being severely tortured in a Beijing detention center because they refused to give up their faith.
She went to Beijing to appeal once again in September of 2000. In her appeal letter, she wrote, "police should not beat people up, Falun Dafa is good." She was sent back to Weishan Farm. The local public security bureau once again forcibly sent her to Beian Mental Hospital for examination. The result was described as within normal limits. They then sent her to a cell in Geqiushan Farm. She was illegally detained there for 15 days. It was very cold in the cell, which made her unwell. Furthermore, the evil police even demanded payment for the detention and deducted 550 Yuan from her living allowance.
Later the evil police attempted to send her to Qiqihaer Shuanghe Forced Labor Camp for two years without informing her family. At the labor camp, Pan Xuanzhi experienced an episode of loss of consciousness. The examiner concluded that she had heart disease, cerebral thrombosis, hemiplegia, and severe stomach disease. Consequently, the labor camp refused to accept her. She was once again sent to and illegally detained at the Weishan Farm. She was watched 24 hours a day by four people and not given any medical treatment. Her family asked for her release many times but was refused each time. The thugs even demanded 10,000 Yuan. Her family was barely able to make ends meet, and therefore did not have money for the ransom. During her detention, Pan Xuanzhi was brutally beaten up by Zou Xuefeng, the director of the appeal's office, simply for asking for a pair of shoes. The torture incapacitated her right arm. The officials could not care less about her injury. They have tortured this previously healthy elderly woman to total incapacity and full of illnesses. Because the expenses are high at the detention center, they later transferred and detained her at a nursing home.
Early November of 2000, Pan's relative went to visit her and was told that she had disappeared for almost two months; no one knows her whereabouts even now. All this time, her workplace not only did not care to look for her, but also accused her relatives of hiding her, and circulated the rumor widely. Meanwhile, they withheld her husband's entire monthly retirement pension of 340 Yuan for seven months, as deduction for Pan's bond, living expenses while in detention, and medical expenses. This caused him severe financial difficulty. Her husband went and told them many times that this was illegal. The workplace later reluctantly agreed to give him back 200 Yuan per month. According to the stipulation of "the law for the protection of the rights of the elderly," no work unit or individual is allowed to withhold the retirement pension of the elderly. The workplace's act is unquestionably illegal.
What's even more appalling, in October 2001, Zou Xuefeng from Weishan Farm appeal's office and Wang from the public security bureau, together with the local security office in the Wangping Town, Beichen area, Tianjin City, expelled Pan's sons Li Hongtao and Li Hongwei and his wife Cong Lihong from their workplace, Tianjin Jiuzhou Stationary Factory. The excuse was that they did not have the temporary living permit in Tianjin. The local security office refused to issue them the permit, thereby forcing them to leave Tianjin. They thus lost their jobs and income. Where is justice? This is anarchy!
We call on all good people in the world to pay special attention to Pan Xuanzhi's unfortunate situation and help to find her. Those evil perpetrators should be brought to justice. It is the time to eliminate the scum in this world.
Xu Ziao is a 15-year-old girl who lives in apartment #3 on the first floor, unit 1, building 18, Qianguang Subdivision, Shengli Street, Dagang District, Tianjin City. On May 1, 2001, she left home behind in order to resist the brainwashing class that the local police station and the residency committee organized especially for her. She was arrested on November 8, 2001 on Tiananmen Square and detained in Pinggu County. Xu Ziao was released on November 13 after nearly 5 days of hunger strike, as reported by Clearwisdom.
Her mother Sun Ti has been harassed many times by the Dagang police for practicing Falun Gong. They confiscated her property, arrested her and sent her to the detention center twice. Even knowing that there was a warrant for her arrest, she is still clarifying the truth to people.
In the evening of November 21, the police in Tianjin recognized the mother and daughter on the street. They arrested them and still hold them captive today. It is difficult to imagine the torture that they have surely endured. The police have also confiscated all of their property, including the house that they lived in.
Xu Ziao and her mother knew of the danger before they were arrested, yet they did not withdraw from clarifying the truth. They firmly believed in the Teacher. They said that if they were arrested again, they would go on hunger strike just like they did before during previous detentions.
They are currently being detained at the Tianjin Police Department, and the 610 Office of the Tianjin Police Department is responsible for this matter.
We call upon all kind-hearted people in the world to act together in order to rescue Falun Gong practitioner Ziao and her mother, and to put an end to this persecution.

5. Brainwashing is Futile
Around 8am the next day I was ordered to pack my belongings. Police Zhang Lijun said to Police Zhu Xiaosong, "Finally they're trying what I suggested." I was sent to a brainwashing class. On the way, while Officer Zhu was driving, Officer Qin said to me, "If you tell me now, we will take you back." I thought to myself, "What a big liar!"
I was taken to an office in the Pinggu County Law Enforcement Education School. Wang Wei, the man in charge of the brainwashing (used to teach physics, male, around 30 years old, wears glasses) said many slanderous things about Dafa, similar to the propaganda on China Central Television. He also ordered me to stand for a long time. Still weak from my hunger strike, I started to breath heavily and could not straighten my back. When I coughed, I bent over almost to the ground. Li Guolian (female, 23 years old, supervisor) then came and took me for a checkup. They said that at the time my face was very pale and my heart rate reached 120 beats per minute. The doctor advised me not to cough, that if I burst a blood vessel I would be spitting out blood.
After seeing the doctor, Wong Hongjing (male, around 40 years old), head of the Pinggu County "610" Office came to the brainwashing facility as well. Others involved in the brainwashing included Liang Yarong and Wong Jiurong, both in their forties, administrative workers Li Gaosheng (around 40 years old, police officer), Officer Yue (male, around 30, police officer) and four other young security guards in their twenties. I heard that before they came, they all underwent training where they were taught many things which are slanderous and insulting to Falun Dafa.
I clarified the truth about Falun Dafa to the people around me there. In the evenings I was forced to watch slanderous videos about Falun Dafa. I sent forth righteous thoughts and after awhile they said, "It's no use playing the video to her." So they stopped it.
On the 12th, a secret agent named Wu Xianquan (male, 49 years old) was trying to brainwash me. He was from the Tuanhe Labor Camp and had himself been brainwashed by the government propaganda machine. I continuously recited, "The Fa rectifies the cosmos, the Evil is completely eliminated". In the morning the head of the "610" Office, Wong Hongjing and the Deputy Principal of the Law Enforcement Education School came to ask for my name and address. I adamantly refused to tell them. In the afternoon, secret agent Wu Xianquan again tried to brainwash me. Soon after he started talking I said to him, "Don't say anymore. Listen to what I have to say. I will not listen to your brainwashing. I will continue on the hunger strike until you release me. You can forget about getting any information from me, the police department couldn't. You can't either." Wu continued talking and I was able to get from him the names of many of those involved in this article.
6. Policeman Qin Shouwen Gets a Phone Call from Britain
At 5 pm on November 12, policeman Qin Shouwen came to my cell. He pretended to be very nice and said, "I have come to see how you are doing." He showed me his electronic pocket notebook. After a while, he asked me to play cards with him, and even offered to buy me some Kentucky Fried Chicken and Huanggong roast chicken. I said, "If you let me go, I have everything at home, and you don't need to take the trouble to buy me anything to eat here." Gradually he lost his patience. Once again he threatened me with being force-fed and detained as a criminal.
It was almost 8 pm, and he was being very arrogant and aggressive. Suddenly his cellular phone rang. He strolled around in the room at a leisurely pace while answering, "Hi, it's me. Who is it?".... "[Calling from] Britain?!" He was very surprised. I became excited when I thought it could be a phone call from overseas to rescue me. He quickly scurried out of the room. I heard he saying, "Nobody by that name is here! Absolutely no such person! You got the wrong number!" He closed the door behind him and I could not hear him anymore. After a while, he came back and nervously told the others that if anyone called asking for this kid, just tell them we don't have her. Someone asked if they should answer that they had me before but not anymore. Qin Shouwen said, "We don't have this kid at all!" He sat down nervously while rubbing the cards in his hand, still not recovered from his shock about the overseas phone call. I looked at his expression and felt very sure that the call was to rescue me and my detention had appeared on the Clearwisdom website. I asked him, "You have friends in Britain?" He answered without any expression, "Yes, I do. I have a friend in Britain. Do you have relatives overseas? Or maybe friends?" I told him proudly, "Falun Gong practitioners in China and overseas are one body, they are all my friends." He looked at me and fell back into silence, still rubbing his cards. A while later, he became so troubled by the phone call that he could not sit there any longer. He rushed out and made a call. Another policeman said, "Higher authorities will come to visit you, our county magistrate will come also."
7. The Evil's Last Desperate Struggle
It was raining and snowing on the evening of November 12. At 10 pm, the door opened and someone stepped in. All the policemen and other personnel stood up. Someone said that the police chief came to visit me after a meeting. The Police Chief of the Pinggu County Police Bureau, Vice Police Chief, a person in charge of personnel administration, the Assistant Principal Li (47 years old) from the Pinggu County Judicial Education School (a school that regularly holds brainwashing classes) all came. The other vice principal Han Lirong, female, 30 to 40 years old, did not come. The head of criminal police squad Qin Shouwen was here also. They ordered everyone else to leave, and suddenly the atmosphere in the room changed. They sat down and focused their attention on me. I thought that this was the darkest hour before dawn, and I would be free very soon. Even though they appeared to be menacing and intimidating, I knew they were at the end of their desperate struggle. As always, they threatened me and tried to deceive me into giving them my name and address. The police chief said, "We came to visit you immediately after a meeting, why don't you show some respect to our caring for you. There is no use for you to continue on your hunger strike. If you die of starvation, we will just throw your body on a deserted hill, and that is it. There is absolutely no way you can leave here without giving us your name. We will give you one night to think it over, if you still refuse to eat, you will be detained as a criminal and force-fed."
After the police chief's speech, the vice police chief repeated his words and added more details to fully explain the police chief's final offer. I was very calm and not affected by what they said at all. I thought about Teacher's words, "just by having your heart unaffected you will be able to handle all situations."(Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s)) I thought that Teacher was beside me and feared nothing. They were nothing in our Teacher's eyes. Under this extreme situation I needed do even better, because Teacher was watching me.
At around midnight, the police chief left and ordered the others to "continue the interrogation." They planned to interrogate me throughout the night. I asked to use the restroom. When I came back, they sent me to another room to sleep. I thought that when Teacher saw my righteous heart, he would not allow them to keep persecuting me.
In the morning of November 13, policeman Qin Shouwen came and asked if I had eaten or given them my address. Another policeman said that I had not. Qin Shouwen said, "Get all your belongings and go to your mother. We will send you to the 918 bus station. You can go home from there. It is useless to detain you." I did not believe them at first. They sent me to the 918 bus station. On the way there, I asked them if they were still playing tricks. Qin Shouwen said that this time they would not arrest me. I asked, "Last time the city police bureau did not agree to release me, they changed their mind this time?" Qin Shouwen said, "Yes, they agreed to release you."
On the way home, I got away from two agents who followed me and made it home safely.

In various townships of Shuangcheng City, many Falun Dafa practitioners have been victims of illegal searches, ransacking of personal property, extortion, confiscations, beatings, tortures and illegal detention. The following are just a few such cases.
Youhao Village, Lequn Township
Practitioner Fu Chunlong was frequently harassed by Party Secretary Zhang Guorong for not giving up cultivation of Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance). He has been subjected to many extortions from July 1999 to the present. He was arrested for practicing Falun Gong at Zhao Yayun's residence and detained at the Police Station, and the Police often sent policemen to his home to monitor him.
Guan Xiufen's home was illegally searched; she was taken to the Police Station for possessing two Dafa books, and was extorted 1,500 Yuan "fine."
Wu Xiuhua's home was illegally searched. She was taken to the Police Station for possessing Zhuan Falun, and was illegally fined 1,000 Yuan.
Yin Yumei was frequently harassed by Party Secretary Zhang Guorong and Vice-Secretary Wang Guolan (now transferred away) for not giving up cultivation of Zhen-Shan-Ren. They used various means to create difficulties for her as well as pressuring her to write "guarantee letters" [promising not to practice Falun Gong]. She and her husband had been expelled from their work units because of their daughter being "non-cooperative" and going to Beijing, yet Yin Yumei still had to "report" daily to the school where she worked without being paid. During the Chinese New Year, January 2001, she and four other steadfast Dafa practitioners were detained by the Village Committee in a brainwashing class for nearly a month. They had to sleep on cold tables and chairs and were abused and insulted by civilian "guards" at will.
Fu Wenpei and Yin Chengfang had their jobs taken away for more than two months, as they refused to give up cultivation. They were also illegally detained more than two months for appealing in Beijing, and had 2,500 Yuan extorted from them for "trip expenses." Upon release, they were further detained by the school where they were employed. They were kept in a classroom while other teachers took turns monitoring them. They were not allowed to work and lost their salary.
Hong Shuqing was illegally detained over two months for appealing in Beijing, and upon release, was further detained by the Village Committee. Hong's home was frequently subjected to police invasion. They confiscated a Dafa exercise cassette from Hong, and extorted a 1,000-Yuan "fine."
Guo Yan was illegally detained by Shuangcheng City Detention Centre in 1999, and was tortured for a whole night for defending her freedom of belief. The policeman who did this then extorted 3,000 Yuan from her family before letting her go.
Guo Xianmin was reported by informants for distributing leaflets, and she was illegally fined 800 Yuan by the Police.
Guo Lihua's home was illegally searched, and she was illegally fined 500 Yuan for possessing Essentials for Further Advancement.
Liu Lichun had 7,000 Yuan extorted for appealing in Beijing back in October 1999. And since a later appeal, Liu has been illegally detained in a forced labor camp in Beijing to this day.
Ma Xinying has been sentenced to one year forced labor for appealing in Beijing in 2000.
Wang Shurong was extorted 2,000 Yuan for appealing in Beijing. When Wang was away during a later appeal, corrupt authorities illegally sold Wang's franchised farmland. Wang has now been sentenced by the lawless police to one year of forced labor.
Wang Xiumei was found reading a Dafa book at home, and for this the Village Security Branch forcefully took her to their main headquarters. They burned the book and had her beaten up by her own husband.
Na Yafang appealed in Beijing, and for that she was illegally detained by the Shuangcheng City Detention Centre for over two weeks, had 3,000 Yuan extorted from her, and was forced to sell her franchised farmland. She was illegally detained again at the main headquarters during the Chinese New Year period. She was 6 months pregnant at that time.
Wang Xin went to Beijing to appeal on December 11, 2000, and was illegally detained for 11 days in Shuangcheng City 2nd Detention Centre, and then 4 days in the local Police Station. Wang had to go on a hunger strike before being allowed home. Due to Wang's trip to Beijing, Wang's parents lost their jobs, and the village authority extorted 1,000 Yuan from the family for "trip expenses."
Guanghui Village, Lequn Township
In December 2000, Meng Qingzhi was going to visit her parents, but local police suspected her of planning to go to Beijing to appeal. She was thus arrested and detained for two days, as well being illegally fined 500 Yuan.
Wang Xiuju's home was illegally searched by the local police. A hand-written copy of Zhuan Falun was found, so she was extorted a 1,000-Yuan "fine." In July 2000, Wang went to eradicate the evil behind a Dafa defamation picture show in Harbin, and was illegally detained for 15 days and illegally fined 130 Yuan.
Jia Ying's home was illegally searched by the local police in December 2000. Jia was also extorted a 1,000-Yuan "fine" for owning a set of Dafa lecture tapes. In July 2000, Wang went to eradicate the evil behind a Dafa defamation photo exhibition in Harbin, and was detained for 15 days and illegally fined 130 Yuan.
Guo Fan's home was searched by the local police in October 2000, and Guo was extorted a 1,000-Yuan "fine" for owning a copy of Zhuan Falun. On the way to Beijing, Guo was arrested in Shenyang on December 22, 2000, and was detained for 10 days in Shuangcheng City 2nd Detention Centre. The 610 Office extorted 1,000 Yuan from Guo, and the Village Committee extorted 1,800 Yuan.
Fuqin Village, Lequn Township
Zou Xiaodong was detained in the 2nd Detention Centre for 11 days for appealing in Beijing in November 2000. Afterwards, Zou was further detained 37 days by the local police, who also extorted 2,000 Yuan from Zou's family. Zou successfully fought for release by hunger strike. In 2001, Zou was detained by the Village Committee again for over a month in the school.
Fuzhi Village, Lequn Township
Shi Quan was extorted 1,000 Yuan by the police in October 1999 for having Dafa materials such as an article called "Health Benefits--100 Cases". In November 2000, Shi was detained at the 2nd Detention Centre for 15 days for appealing in Beijing, and was extorted another 1,000 Yuan. On December 27, 2001 (lunar calendar), Shi was captured from home when studying Dafa, and was sentenced to two years forced labour. Shi is still in a labour camp today.
Zhang Jing was detained for 2 weeks and was extorted 1,000 Yuan for appealing in Beijing. On Dec 27, 2000 (lunar calendar), Zhang was captured at his home while studying Dafa, and was detained for three months.
Shi Yushan was extorted a 1,000-Yuan "fine" by the police in 1999, for keeping a Dafa book, Dafa Exposition, at home. Shi was again extorted 1,000 Yuan and detained for 15 days, just for going to Beijing to appeal. In December 2000, Shi and his wife Yang Xiufang were studying Dafa at the residence of his brother, Shi Quan, when the police came and took him to Changlinzi Labour Camp and detained him for 7 months. His wife Yang Xiufang was detained for 6 months and 6 days, and she was extorted 1,000 Yuan by the 610 Office, and 1,300 Yuan by the Detention Centre.
Li Yueping was extorted 1,000 Yuan and detained 15 days for appealing in Beijing in October 2000. The police once illegally searched Li's residence. On December 27, 2000, Li and his wife were taken by the police while studying Dafa at Shi Quan's home. His Wife Tong Wanqin was illegally detained for one month, and Li was detained for 7 months before his return.
In Fuzhi Village, 16 people were arrested for studying Dafa in a group. Two of them, Ge Yajun and Guan Shumin were detained overnight and extorted a 2,000-Yuan "fine" each; Ma Chunxiang and 7 others were detained for one month; 6 were illegally sent to forced labour camp; one of them, Shi Quanzhi, is still being detained now with an illegal sentence of two years.
Lequn Village, Lequn Township
Zhu Yaoming was illegally fined 1,000 Yuan when the police searched Zhu's home without a warrant and found a copy of Zhuan Falun. In May 2000, Zhu was again extorted 3,000 Yuan for appealing in Beijing, and both his sons lost their jobs.
Fu Lianjun suffered an extortion of 4,000 Yuan for going to appeal in Beijing in February 2000, and was detained for a month. In November 2000, Fu was extorted another 3,000 Yuan for appealing in Beijing the second time, and Fu's 15-acre farm was confiscated. Fu is now homeless.
Li Shimin was called away by the police while sharing experiences with fellow practitioners in October 1999, and was illegally fined 1,000 Yuan. In November the same year, Li was extorted 3,700 Yuan for appealing in Beijing, his 15-acre farm was confiscated, and he was detained for one month. Li is now homeless.

Two steadfast Dafa practitioners, Ma Xinying and Zhang Yafen, were detained in Shuangcheng Detention Centre for appealing in Beijing. After their release, they were further detained in a retirement home for 2 months for fear that they might appeal again. They were subjected to insults by thugs with filthy and crude language. Wang Guolan slapped both of them on the face numerous times, due to their not giving up Falun Dafa, and extorted 4,000 Yuan from Zhang's family before letting her go.
Criminals Zhang Guorong and Wang Guolan exhausted all their wits in persecuting Dafa practitioners. Zhao Yayun firmly believed in Dafa, so Zhang Guorong charged her with "practicing Falun Gong at home" and sent her to a forced labour camp. Zhang is responsible for her death, as the brutal persecution in the labour camp took her life.
Yaojin Township
On December 20, 2000, He Guiping was captured in Changchun on the way to Beijing to appeal. He was first sent to the 2nd Detention Centre in Harbin City, where He was tortured for refusing to give his name. After being detained for 2 weeks, he was sent to Shuangcheng City Detention Centre and locked up for 55 days, as well as illegally fined 1,000 Yuan, charged 498 Yuan for "meal expenses," and forced to sell all his land.
Ma Yuhuan was captured and detained in Tianjin, on the way to appeal in Beijing, and was subjected to all kinds of mistreatment. After giving her name she was illegally detained in Shuangcheng City Detention Centre for half a month. Local authorities also tried charge her for "trip expenses."
On January 17, 2001, Ma Chengbao and 3 others were detained in a dark little room in the village by Yaojin County policeman Ma Dali, County Party Secretary Zhang Junbao, and Village Chief Liu Changlong supposedly to "talk" to them. This action left a 7 years old child at home alone.
Wang Yuling went to Beijing to appeal on December 16, 2000, and was tortured by Beijing Fangshan Branch Police on the "Tiger Bench" for 24 hours. (For a detailed description of this and other forms of torture used in forced labor camps, see http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html) She was then detained at Shuangcheng City Detention Centre for 23 days. Upon release, the police tried to extort "trip expenses" money from her family, but the family did not cooperate.
Bai Shuhua was captured on December 23, 2000 while validating Dafa on Tiananmen Square, and was illegally detained for 15 days in Shuangcheng City Detention Center. The County authorities extorted 1,700 Yuan in the name of trip and various other "expenses."
Xu Dezhen went to the "National Letters and Appeals Office" in Beijing to appeal last year, and was sent straight to detention by the Provincial Office in Beijing. Xu was later transferred to Shuangcheng City Detention Centre and locked up for over 20 days, where she underwent all sorts of trauma and torments. On December 10, 2000, Xu's husband Yan Wenbao went to Beijing to validate Dafa, and was captured near Tiananmen. Police extracted his name and address from him, and he was sent to Shuangcheng Detention Centre. Physical and verbal abuse were his daily ordeal during his 29 days detention at the centre. After being released, the couple had to endure constant harassment at their own home from county and village officials and policemen. They've been extorted 3,800 Yuan in total already, and the village authorities wrote down a 1,000 Yuan debt in their record.
Xu Chunlin and Guo Longquan had no money to pay for the "trip expenses" (this is the money for being taken back home by the police), so the Village Party Branch Secretary sold their land and property in March 2000, taking away their livelihood. (Xu's land was sold for 3 years) Xu's family of four is now homeless, and without any source of income.
Xu Qiulin was caught distributing Dafa material in the spring of 2000, and sent for detention in Changlinzi Labour Camp, Harbin City until now, leaving a spouse at home in hardship and loneliness.

The Elder sister
After being detained 22 days in Shuangcheng Detention Centre for appealing in Beijing, she was locked up in a local retirement home, and had 5,000 Yuan "trip expenses" extorted from her. (The family did not have enough money, so her husband was thrown into the County's local office by the thugs and detained for 2 days. They had to mortgage their home in exchange for his release.) On December 23, 2000, she was taken into the retirement home again for over 2 months. Due to her refusal to write a "guarantee" letter, she was locked up in the Shuangcheng Party School for brainwashing. (only being released when her family member gave their signature.)
Second elder sister
On December 23, 2000 she was taken to the local retirement home, and detained for over 2 months. (Her family had to pay 500 Yuan bail for her release.)
Third elder sister
She was detained for 15 days for appealing in Beijing. Local government extorted 3,000 Yuan "trip expenses" (for police to take her back from Beijing) from her. During the Chinese New Year Period in 2001, she was locked up by the Village Committee for 18 days, and only released when her family paid 1,000 Yuan bail.
Fourth elder sister
She was detained for over 40 days for her first time appeal in Beijing. Though released through her hunger strike effort, she was locked up in a retirement home for over 20 days afterwards. She was detained for more than 2 weeks for her second time appeal in Beijing, and sent to forced labour camp for one year (currently in Wanjia Labour Camp, Harbin City). As she refuses to write a "repentance" letter, her family is not allowed to visit.
Xu Shurong went to Beijing to appeal in June 2000, together with her 4 year old child. Afterwards she was locked up in a cold and damp room in the local retirement home and only released because of her hunger strike.
Shuiquan Township Criminal Records:
On December 22, 2000 (lunar calendar), these two criminals shuffled many Dafa practitioners into police vehicles to take them to be brainwashed in the local retirement home. After being locked up for over 2 months, each person was forced to pay 600 Yuan just for meals, and another 1,000 Yuan "trip expenses" for having gone to Beijing. The Local government wanted 1,000 Yuan bail each, and forced each practitioner's family to bring the title paper ("deed") for their house and land as a "guarantee." Not only couldn't they study Dafa and do the exercises, but even the practitioners' personal freedoms were lost during the brainwashing class. They were also being abused and insulted by the guards at will.
Tuanjie Township
Practitioners Zou Guoyan, Yu Kun, and Xu Shujuan went to Beijing to appeal on January 6, 2000 (lunar calendar), and were illegally detained in the Shuangcheng 2nd Detention Centre. Zou and Yu shared the same cell. The police used the inmates to torture them. Zou was beaten and his body was covered with wounds; Yu's teeth are still loose even now, and he is unable to chew anything hard. Yu was also extorted of a 700 Yuan "fine." Xu Shujuan and Zou Guoyan went to appeal in Beijing for the second time in December 2000, and were again subject to severe persecution. Zou is now homeless, leaving a 10 years old child at alone. Xu was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labour.
(Clearwisdom.net) On November 24 and 25, 2001, the Russia Falun Gong Association held an intensive Fa-studying class for the local assistance centers in different regions of Russia and the Independent Unions. Seventy-five people in total, including some veteran practitioners from Taiwan, USA, and Sweden, attended the class. During the two-day period, Dafa practitioners in the class collectively and earnestly read through all the Teacher's new articles, and some articles from Essentials for Further Advancement, in Chinese and Russian. They also had some discussion and experience sharing on some special topics such as: Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples, as a particle of Dafa, how to view and handle those conflicts among such as family, everyday work, and participating in Dafa activities, and how to do a better job in spreading the Fa and clarifying the facts to the public in Russia.
On the second day, the attendants collectively learned some requirements and manner of conduct from Fa through reading Teacher's short articles, "Requirements for a Falun Dafa Assistance Center" (unofficial title) and "How to Provide Assistance." People from eight large assistance centers in Russia, and the representatives from Ukraine and Latvia all had a sense of grave responsibility, and they also felt that they had been benefited a great deal from the principles of Dafa.
During the two days, many practitioners shared with others vivid stories of their Fa-understanding and practicing experiences. In the class, practitioners were all earnest, serious, lively, and active. Teacher said, "I hope that through this Fa conference you will better carry out the work of clarifying the truth, exposing the evil, and saving sentient beings. You should communicate with students in other countries often, encourage each other, and progress together with diligence." ("From Master to the Second Dafa Conference in Russia") We will certainly live up to Master's teachings and steady each step, bringing our corresponding activities into full play in the process of Fa-rectification.

A banned Chinese [spiritual movement] known as Falun Gong, described as both a benign belief system and a threat to [party's name omitted], has come to Boston University, and local believers are looking to spread their message.
"Falun Gong is good and it's being treated badly in China. I think that anyone who wants to learn the practice should be able to," said Anna Skibinsky, a BU graduate student and Falun Gong practitioner.
Skibinsky, along with a small group of BU students and alumni, held the first meeting of the Falun Gong Practice and Information Club in the General Classroom Building last week to teach Falun Gong [peaceful] exercises and educate the student body on government persecution of the group in China.
"I started practicing Falun Gong four-and-a-half years ago ... because graduate school was very stressful," Skibinsky said. "I didn't feel very good."
"One of the reasons I decided to start this club is ... that I felt that if I had learned about Falun Gong in college, I felt like I could have done much better. I probably would have felt better during my college years and would have been more concentrated on what was important," she said.
Li Hongzhi, often referred to as "Master Li" by practitioners, founded Falun Gong in 1992 in China. According to a Falun Gong website, the movement is one of many qigong, an ancient combination of exercises and meditations designed to refine the body and cultivate moral character in accordance with the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance."
The practice, consisting of five meditative exercises, centers around the Falun, or law wheel, which, according to Li's "China Falun Gong," one of two books of his teachings, "collects and evolves energy from the cosmos" and refines practitioners from the lower abdomen.
"At first ... the [exercises] were sort of difficult because it took a lot of concentration to do something without constantly thinking about things ... but I did feel better afterward. My mind felt calm," Skibinsky said of her first experience with the practice.
"It's an inner cultivation way for raising one's moral standards and ... making one's physical body healthy ... by acting up to those principles in a conflict, instead of blaming someone else," she said. "Look inward ... and think of others before thinking of yourself."
Wen-li Zheng, a founding member of the BU group and a part-time Computer Information Systems graduate student, was introduced to Falun Gong by his parents who visited him from China. He has practiced with area Falun Gong groups in Medford, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"Some practitioners suggested since we are students of BU, we can establish a club so more people can know about this," Zheng said. "It's very good for the health, mentally ... to have a formal way to introduce Falun Gong to the student."
Falun Gong Practice and Information Club is a "meeting of whoever wants to drop in and learn the exercises ... [and] events that are happening in China. I find that many people are misinformed of what Falun Gong is," Skibinsky said. "Some people even say there is no persecution. I know someone whose entire family is in a labor camp in China for practicing Falun Gong."
Zheng credited the [spiritual movement] with helping his parents' health struggles, which many Chinese face since the decay of the state-run health care system.
"The practice of Falun Gong is very good for my parents' health," he said. "My father has heart disease ... but after the practice, he has very good health if you compare it to before he practiced."
Zheng said he has noticed the health benefits himself.
"It's just amazing," he said. "I've had allergies, I don't feel sick like before. I've become a better person. I had a short temper ... but now it's really changing me. That's why it attracts so many people."
Tianlun Jian, another founding member and alumnus of BU's doctoral program, said he "learned Falun Gong because [his] neck has been fairly painful for 23 years."
"Within three months, I completely forgot about this," he said.
"I do not try to indicate that [health problems] will automatically be solved ... but this happened to me and other family members," Jian said.
"Anxiety, back pain ... are gone ... [Falun Gong] helps me balance my schoolwork. I am not feeling the anxiety people my age feel," said group co-founder Robert Counts, a Massachusetts College of Art senior.
While the students praised Falun Gong's curative abilities, Chinese government officials view the [spiritual movement] as a threat.

"Mr. Li withdrew from China Qigong Research Society in 1995 because at that time, all China Qigong Research Society did was try to make money off the qigong masters," Jian said.
Many practitioners and scholarly authorities alike feel the persecution was a reaction to the fear that Falun Gong's numbers were exceeding that of [party's name omitted].
While the Chinese government estimated that there were only 2 million practitioners in China, other sources assert 30 million - 40 million practitioners existed in China before the [repression].
"One out of every 10 people -- 100 million people were learning this practice," Skibinsky said. "Only a few leaders in the Chinese government decided to ban the practice."
Also in July 1999, the Chinese government began a systematic persecution of Falun Gong practitioners through arrest, torture and mental hospitalization to brainwash practitioners into forgetting Falun Gong, campus practitioners said.
According to Amnesty International, the Chinese government declared Falun Gong a [term omitted] and threat to stability before launching a nationwide propaganda campaign against the faith. [Party name omitted] authorities described the campaign as an important "political struggle."
To date, 307 practitioners in China have died from police torture, the Falun Gong website claims.
"My parents right now are under police supervision, and every move they are being watched," Zheng said. "They should be very careful, otherwise [the police] shall put them into jail."
"They won't give up the practice," Zheng said. "The [party name omitted] government controls all the media, the people's life ... They only tell you the good things -- how good the government is, how wonderful people's lives [are] ... Falun Gong practitioners just want to practice ... The police will beat them to death," Zheng said.
His parents tried to come to the U.S. but were told at a police station that unless they renounced Falun Gong, they could not get passports.
"It's very hard for Americans to understand. Falun Gong teaches Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance in any circumstance. The Chinese government just doesn't want people to be like that," Zheng said.
Despite the oppression, followers said Falun Gong practitioners remain completely pacifist, even when beaten by Chinese policemen. "For the almost three years of prosecution, there is not one case where a Falun Gong practitioner struck back," Zheng said.
The suppression came to a head on Jan. 23 when five alleged Falun Gong practitioners set themselves on fire in Tiananmen Square, but local followers said the event was set up by the Chinese government.
"It's very clear ... in Falun Gong ... killing living beings including oneself is very, very bad and leads me to believe that the [self-immolators] weren't Falun Gong practitioners," Skibinsky said.
"I don't know exactly who those self-immolators were, but I would not be surprised if they were people who had in fact been brainwashed by the government," she said.
Chinese History Professor Emeritus Merle Goldman and Weller said they didn't know for sure whether the self-immolated were Falun Gong practitioners.
Though the self-immolation broadcast "turned people against [Falun Gong]," Falun Gong continues to receive widespread support for their cause, Goldman said.
"The U.S. government is really supportive of Falun Gong ... trying to voice their concerns about what's happening," Skibinsky said.

Although Weller said the followers will be reduced in number after the government persecution, Goldman said she didn't believe the faith could eliminated.
Tianlun Jian has a 60-year-old relative who was arrested and sentenced to prison, but is now under house arrest and daily supervision because the prisons are full, he said.
"They [the government] is even releasing some prisoners to make room for Falun Gong practitioners," Jian said.
"While many Chinese decide to practice Falun Gong, on the other hand, the Chinese government is sending out its own propaganda against Falun Gong ... [...] Any sort of negative reports I've read about Falun Gong are filled with information that isn't true about Falun Gong," Skibinsky said.
Zheng expressed faith that the group at BU could have a positive impact on the persecution by influencing public opinion. Recently, the U.S. government has called for the release of Chinese intellectuals charged as spies, he said.
Measures have been taken to spread awareness of Falun Gong's plight in China, including the SOS Walk from several U.S. cities to Washington, D.C., in July 2001 to mark the two-year anniversary of the [persecution].
Zheng participated in the 20-day SOS Walk [Across MA], "to raise people's attention and to help us since this is an urgent situation."
"We also gave some material to local governments ... in all the places we passed," he said.
"It would be great to have an open house to invite faculty and the professors in history, Chinese cultural studies and ... the theology department as well as staff and students ..." to speak about the movement in the U.S. and China, Skibinsky said.
"It's not the quantity of people that matters," Skibinsky said.
On November, UCC postgrad Brian Trought was in Tiananmen Square to protest against the maltreatment of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The protestors, posing as a wedding group assembled in the middle of the square. After receiving a signal the group sat down legs crossed and one hand symbolically in front of their chest. Two of the protestors raised a banner displaying the words 'Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.' Within seconds police vehicles were on the scene and the protestors had been surrounded. While Falun Gong members claim their meditation is a 'system of cultivation for body and mind', the practice has been outlawed by the Chinese government and its members wrongfully persecuted. Brian Trought from Blackpool, Co. Cork, a physics student in UCC and a practicing member of Falun Gong was part of the 35 protestors to be detained by Chinese police. Mr. Trought last week told the Campus Chronicle of his experiences in Tiananmen Square....
"Let me state up front, that the purpose of holding this peaceful appeal was not politically motivated. We have no objection to political power, nor did we disturb political or social order. What you see is exactly what happened -- we sat on Tiananmen Square with one hand raised in front of the chest. Within 30 seconds, police vans had surrounded us and began to drag everyone away.
My eyes were closed throughout -- after all this is a standard meditation position! I heard the screech of brakes and a little commotion. Then I heard people being dragged off into the police vans. It took about a minute before the police began to tug at me. It took two policemen to lift me up but I peacefully resisted by relaxing my body. The police officers couldn't lift me. Throughout this, they had stamped on my legs to force them out of the lotus position (left leg on right, the right leg brought up over the left). I didn't feel any pain, but after they lifted me onto the bus, I took my legs down and sat at the back of the bus with some others.
It was strange [...] but I wasn't bothered by the arrest, I knew that it was the right thing to do. So many had been misled by media reports inside China. I just wanted to show the Chinese people that westerners also practiced Falun Gong, and in other countries it isn't illegal.
After sitting down besides a man from Germany, another practitioner said, "Shall we leave?" I replied "They have no right to detain us". With this, the practitioner beside me opened the window and got out. The man who suggested we leave got up to leave through the front door. I also got out the window.
I took video footage from an American, slipped it into my pocket, and walked away. I walked past the crowd and was stopped by a Chinese official in a green uniform. He asked me to go back (in Chinese) but I didn't understand. I also, understandably, didn't want to return to the police van I had just left!
Eventually, I had my camera [film] confiscated (but the footage was safe in my pocket) and I was escorted back, where I was asked to sit in a minibus. I was being detained for being a westerner and having a camera on Tiananmen Square!
I wasn't mistreated, but I saw others being forced into the police station. I heard later that the police punched and kicked some of the others. One Swedish man was even beaten for about an hour in a hotel room. I had heard some stories before about police brutality towards Falun Gong practitioners, but this really hit home. The others were detained for about 21 hours, interrogated and then deported. I left Beijing on the day I planned. [...]
Just for sitting in a meditation posture on Tiananmen Square, the police responded by arresting 35 people. There seems to be something wrong with this. The most basic human right is to appeal against injustice. This is exactly what we did, and we did this peacefully."
While the stereotypical view of students is often one of apathy, disillusionment and indifference to the needs of others, it must be recognised that there are individuals and groups within the University and the student body in Ireland who are motivated by a deep social conscience and who campaign against social injustice. The work by student societies such as Amnesty International, St. Vincent de Paul, Simon, Earthwatch and One World Society to name a few, dispels the myth of student apathy. Brian Trought will continue to help fight for the release of Falun Gong practitioners persecuted in China.
Around a hundred local Falun Gong practitioners attended a local ceremony in Kaohsiung County's Maolin Village. We wanted to use this opportunity to clarify the truth of Falun Gong to more people. Some of us distributed Dafa materials, some gave away balloons, and some collected signatures. We also demonstrated the exercises, which attracted many people and they seemed to like it very much. We know that we helped to bring a bright future to this simple and honest village.
A three-day "Freedom Walk for Falun Gong" was held on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, from November 16th -- 18th to coincide with the "International Day of Tolerance." Over twenty practitioners from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Toowoomba, and the Gold Coast participated in the event as part of the worldwide SOS message: "Urgent Rescue Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted in China."
The walk extended for a distance of 60 km's from Caloundra to Noosa. The walkers comprised of both Western and Chinese practitioners ranging in age from young children to those in there late 50's.
We held peaceful candlelight memorials over two evenings in remembrance of over 300 men, women and children who have been tortured to death in China's relentless crackdown against Falun Gong, and to peacefully appeal for the millions of innocent practitioners and their families still suffering in China.
A booth was also organised at the major shopping centre on the Coast to inform the public of our walk, offering flyers and hundreds of balloons to the children bearing the words "Falun Dafa" and "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance."
Our walk was reported exceptionally well by the local TV stations and newspapers.áMany felt the environment changing as we continued forward with our righteous thoughts and hearts. The practitioners at the very front and rear of the walk each carried a large sign which read "GLOBAL FREEDOM WALK FOR FALUN GONG," and many people offered their support with encouraging toots and waves. The whole event proved very harmonious. We were all particles united in Dafa. Although some practitioners found it challenging at times, their enthusiasm remained unwavering.
Walking through one particularly busy street we overheard a mother say to her little girl, "Let's make room for these people darling, they have a very important message to put across!"

Because of the extraordinary impression we left last year, the Silver Spring holiday parade organizer invited us to take part in the festivities again this year.
The days before the parade were often cloudy and rained. The day of the parade was sunny and warm like spring. The decoration on the float came from Philadelphia practitioners. The handmade pink lotus flowers were very attractive.
Every time we finished our exercise demonstration in the parade, people applauded. When we passed the stage, the host introduced Falun Gong to the audience. Many local people saw the peaceful exercises themselves and had a good first impression of the nature of the universe Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Wherever we went, people asked us for Dafa materials or asked some questions.
We felt so happy with the result of the parade because we truly wanted to bring Dafa to more people.

Clarifying the Truth and Breaking Through the Information Blockade
Several lessons learned while making phone calls to Mainland China regarding the persecution: First prepare the relevant materials, then send forth righteous thoughts before calling to eradicate the evil, and do not stick to one pattern while clarifying the truth. While eradicating the evil use righteous thoughts from our enlightened side (the side that has been cultivated well); if the other party hears it, even only one sentence, it is enough for the evil force behind him to completely collapse.
While calling the Public Security Bureau of Gansu Province, which tortured Yuan Jiang to death, the person who answered hung up the phone before I even spoke. Before, while making the phone calls, my mind was mixed with hatred against the evil people, but now my mind is "seizing every living being at the edge of the cliff." What the evil fears the most is benevolence. They have their rational sides and know they have committed heinous crimes.
Clarifying the truth of Falun Dafa to my college classmates: I sent an email to my classmates in my former college and told them my current situation and the reason why I became destitute and homeless. One of my classmates wrote a long letter to the whole class to express his great appreciation and admiration of me. He thought one would be practically undefeatable if he/she still insisted on speaking the truth while the price for speaking the truth was so high. Later, the whole class participated in a discussion on Falun Gong and me; a lot of my classmates expressed their high regard for my steadfast belief in Falun Dafa.
Worldwide Support
A private publishing group, Rainer Wagner based out of Germany, attached an eye-catching orange colored page to introduce Falun Dafa and the brutal repression of Falun Dafa in China in their book list for their Christmas promotion. The group got to know Falun Dafa from the Falun Gong web site and voluntarily called on their readers to pay attention to the situation in China.
According to the Russian Human Rights Group Pulima [Name translated from Chinese] Information Center's report on November 26, security officers at Moscow's Izmalovsky [Name translated form Chinese] Market illegally detained several Falun Gong practitioners as they distributed flyers on November 24, 2001. Security personnel confiscated their coats with the Falun Gong emblem and also Chinese-language pamphlets and several thousand flyers. Local police have begun to investigate this incident.
News from China - 12/01/2001
Today 113 people declared solemnly that what they did and said against the principles of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance while they were under pressure of the evil forces and under their own fear are null and void. From now on they will firmly re-commit themselves to cultivation in Dafa, treasure this rare opportunity, double their efforts to amend the damage they did to Dafa and follow the Fa-rectification process closely.
Bai Minghua, female, over 50 years old from Huainan City, Anhui Province, was blind from birth. Because she practices Falun Gong, the government detained her and tried to send her to a forced labor camp. The labor camp refused to take her (perhaps because of her disability - translator). To avoid the government's attempts to force her into a brainwashing class in this cold winter weather, she and her daughter and infant granddaughter are living the lives of homeless persons and are wandering about. This three-generation family now cannot go home anymore.
Wang Yi, a young teacher at Beijing's Northern Jiaotong University and a Dafa practitioner was forced out of his home at the end of December 2000. People from the university administration office and from Dazhongsi Police Station jointly monitored his father for a long time. On Septermber 30, 2001, they arrested Wang Yi and sent him to Haidian District's Qinghe Detention Center for torture and persecution. The evil person responsible for this is Xu Ming, phone number 011-86-622-56622 ext. 2770. Jiaotong University's Operator: 011-86-622-56622. One can request connections to other departments. Incidents of Immediate Retribution in this Lifetime
Jiang Yandang is the Party Secretary of the Dongwangfuzhuang Village, Nanchun Township, Pingdu City, Shandong Province. He was involved in ransacking Falun Dafa practitioners' homes, fining and even threatening to kill them. He received retribution when a fire broke out in his house and caused his father to suffer severe burns. The principal of Zongjiabu Elementary School ordered students to paint over or wash off Falun Dafa slogans. He suffered a broken finger when it was slammed into a car door. Jiang Yandang's son recently died in a car accident.
Police in Zoucheng City and Jining City of Shandong Province were involved in atrocities such as illegally detaining and extorting money from Falun Dafa practitioners, forcing practitioners into mental hospitals, and torturing practitioners to death. Their actions have brought disaster to the local people. 60,000 mu (translator's note -- Chinese unit of area which equals 1/15 of a hectare) of farmland were recently destroyed. It takes approximately 10,000 Yuan (translator's note -- approximately 20 months of wages of an average urban worker) to restore one mu of farmland.
A practitioner has experienced profound changes in his mental and physical
health since practicing Falun Dafa, convincing his colleagues of the power of
Falun Dafa. Some of the colleagues are starting to read Zhuan Falun. When
one of them received a phone call from an overseas practitioner, he said
immediately, "I know that Falun Dafa is good."
Dozens of practitioners were illegally detained for validating Falun Dafa. On the eve of the New Year, they shouted together in the detention center, "Falun Dafa is good," "Our Teacher is good," "Restore the reputation of our Teacher." In the face of handcuffs, beatings and electric batons, the practitioners succeeded in clarifying the truth to hundreds of detainees who were held there for not carrying proper identification. Some of them have obtained Falun Dafa as a result.
Stories of Several Fellow Practitioners in Detention
A female practitioner from Hunan Province works in the medical field. She unfurled banners supporting Falun Gong many times on Tiananmen Square and was arrested and brutally beaten by the vicious police. She was beaten unconscious in the detention center, then woke up when the policemen were burying her alive. She was dragged back to the center for more tortures. However, even though one of her hands was shackled, she still used the other hand to pass [Dafa] materials to other people. Her lips which validated Dafa could not be sealed.

She was beaten and kicked by the vicious police, and shocked with electric batons. She went on hunger strike many times. The vicious people stepped on her legs, squeezed her neck and her nose, opened her mouth and put a water bottle in it. She still maintained a righteous attitude.

On November 23, the Norrkopings Tidningar of Switzerland reported that Falun Gong practitioner Magdalina, who went to Tiananmen to appeal, said that the policeman rudely dragged her to the police van, pulled her hair and slapped her in the face. In China there are over 300 Falun Gong practitioners that were killed. She said: "We must appeal to governments of other countries and all the kind people to stop the torture together."

On November 23, the United Nations International Consultative Conference on School Education was held in Madrid, Spain. Falun Gong practitioners distributed an information packet to more than 200 conference delegates informing them of China's non-existent "freedom of religious belief, tolerance and non-discrimination," which was the subject of the conference. They also demonstrated that China abuses "educational means" against Falun Gong practitioners. Most delegates expressed their disbelief in the lies spread by Jiang Zemin's regime.

A retired engineer was detained and fined for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, and later she was illegally detained and sent to forced labor for peacefully appealing. Afterwards, she was forced to leave home and roam about. The evil forces persecuted her husband by arranging for him to work in a paint shop, where he was poisoned by the paint fumes and lost his ability to work and live a normal life.
Before the break of dawn and when the ship is about to take off, Teacher has given me one last chance. I will work twice as hard and use my actual cultivation and Fa rectification actions to make up for the loss (I caused) for Dafa and all people, which resulted from my "guarantee letter." Actively repairing the damage is the only assurance of second salvation and returning on the path for a being that had betrayed Dafa.

Maintaining very strong righteous thoughts, the practitioner escaped from the police station through a window of the storage room while the police were drowsy.
A schoolteacher's path of assisting Teacher and helping in the Fa rectification: through cultivation of Dafa, a teacher experienced different states of mind and body in her different periods of cultivation.
